Nobody better for the job than an ER doctor! For this episode, I talk to Mary C. Meyer, MD MPH, an emergency medicine physician with The Permanente Medical Group and an expert in climate medicine who has served as director of disaster preparedness for Kaiser in Northern California as well as in global health disaster deployments, including Haiti, Venezuela, Sri Lanka, Ghana, Jamaica, and St. Lucia. Following the disastrous floods that have hit the north of New Zealand following cyclone Gabrielle last week, I think it is opportune to revisit a podcast I recorded a year or so ago with Sue Kinsella and Alison Vaughan from RNZSPCA. If you have the responsibility of looking after animals, you should listen to this!

What would happen with your private practice if you had an accident today and ended up in Intensive care in the hospital unable to speak or do anything…What happens to the clients who are on your calendar for tomorrow? How would they even know anything has happened to you?Would anyone have clear instructions on what to do to help you and your practice? If not, then you need a backup – disaster plan for your practice, because one day – if it's ever needed – that plan could save your practice from closure! The unexpected can happen any time and few practice owners are ready for that moment an accident happens that takes you out of commission. I wasn't either …well, at least not until the day I fired someone on my team who was in the ICU.But now, having had that experience, I am ready… and you need to be as well - so that when the unexpected does happen you are ready to deal with it – even if you are incapacitated. This episode of Marketing your Private Practice shares why having a backup-disaster plan is critical to the longevity of your practice and how to plan for disasters… even small ones because they can have big effects on your practice.Listen in for all the details and you can get the notes and resources mentioned on those shownotes page at www.marketingyourprivatepractice.com/7 Resources Mentioned in this episode:Marketing Foundations quiz https://www.pepperitmarketing.com/quiz Thrive Marketing Academy https://www.pepperitmarketing.com/thrive Book a Call with Kathy https://calendly.com/kathyc/consult

News bulletins are full of disaster stories. In the case of a disaster have you got a plan for your pet? I talk to Sue Kinsella and Alison Vaughan from RNZSPCA about “disaster preparedness”.It is as simple as:- Microchip your pets- Have a cage or crate handy- A collar and lead and perhaps a muzzle- 48 – 72 hours feed- Any medication required- A copy of any relevant veterinary information- Vaccination certificates- A simple first aid kit (bandages and dressings, antiseptic, brushes and combs).
Do you have a disaster plan for your law firm? This article first appeared on Best Virtual Paralegal LLC's blog in 2012 after Hurricane Sandy! Revised: 01/22/2022Do you have a disaster plan for your law firm? What would your staff and clients do if your office was a victim of a disaster? You might want to read on. A disaster can range from the minor, such as losing your phone service for the day, to the catastrophic, such as a hurricane, a bomb threat, or a power outage caused by the weather. There is no disaster too small for you not to have a plan. Do your support staff and paralegals know what to do if your internet shuts down?My blog post was inspired by this very question. A few days ago, I was in my office working when a friend called and asked if I could do some legal research for her firm. Her answer stunned me. Her office suffered a long-term power outage due to a storm. As a result of the power outage, she asked her paralegal to conduct manual research at the local law library. She was shocked to discover that her paralegal knew nothing about doing legal research with books. She had no choice but to turn to me.After completing the research, I called my friend to help her develop a disaster plan. Had my friend implemented a disaster plan before the power outage, her office and clients would have been prepared for the unforeseen disaster and remained productive. In conclusion, if your office does not have a disaster plan in place, can you see why it is so imperative to have one? In addition to being a virtual paralegal, I also serve as a consultant for law firms at times. Not only do I assist attorneys and law firms in becoming more productive by preparing their case documents and contacting their clients, but I also help train their staff on how to be more tech-savvy and assist them in developing disaster plans. We strive to be the go-to service for all attorneys and law firms.Jennifer and I will share tips for putting together a disaster plan with you and your staff in future posts. Thank you for reading! It was our pleasure to write it! Don't forget to share this post!
Six years ago industry legend Matteo Pignatelli (Matteo's, Melbourne) was diagnosed with cancer and the chance of survival was in the balance. Keen to ensure his family were looked after, and all business dealings were in the black he developed a disaster plan in the event that he died. In remission, the pandemic landed and he found himself in the unique position of not only having a disaster plan to use but with a disposition to look for the positives as it wasn't the hardest thing he'd had faced. The perspective allowed him to look after staff, alter his business operations and embark on an endeavor to mentor and educate the next generationhttps://www.matteos.com.auFollow Deep In The Weeds on Instagramhttps://www.instagram.com/deepintheweedspodcast/?hl=enFollow Huckhttps://www.instagram.com/huckstergram/Follow Rob Locke (Executive Producer)https://www.instagram.com/foodwinedine/LISTEN TO OUR OTHER FOOD PODCASTShttps://linktr.ee/DeepintheWeedsNetwork

2020 has been a year filled with catastrophic disasters of all types, and the only thing unclear is which movie we're reenacting at the current moment. Backdraft meets Twister meets 2012, with a dash of the Day after Tomorrow and a near miss by Armageddon. If those weren't crazy enough, there were a few reports of brushes from Orca and Jaws tossed in for variety, with slices of Yul Brenner and Chuck Heston in The Ten Commandments (Locusts and plagues, no less). I could point you to news stories showing all of those things this year. Both the man-made and natural disasters we're now facing are something we feel helpless against, at least at the scale we're facing now, so how does one combat all of that? The answer might be to combat the things you can, and survive the ones you can't. It's one in the “win” column if you get off Isla Nublar alive, whether or not the T-Rex is still standing when you leave. So how does one survive? Preparation is the best weapon we have. And for those of us who also have non-human living things to protect, the difficulty level goes way, way up when responding to an emergency (ever tried to catch a panicked chicken?). Chaos theory gone wild. Today, we have just the person to tell us about how to go about it. We're bringing you our conversation with Julie Atwood of The Halter Project, who started by training first responders in safe animal emergency response, but broadened the scope, now offering education and resources for the rest of us. We have a visuals up on our Backyard Green YouTube channel, if you would like to see. Training EMT's to save a plastic horse (in preparation for the real thing) has to be seen to get the full impact of the scope of the task. We'll let you insert your own mental C.G. disaster of choice in the background on that one. Do you have a disaster plan in place when the disaster hits your restaurant? Today I share with you our little disaster experience this week! I also share with you 5 steps to come up with your own Disaster Plan. 1- Have a sequence of critical equipment and services you need to function. The non negotiables. 2- Have a list of service companies, their contact information and phone number somewhere in the store easily accessed by management. So in case of an issue, you don't waste minutes finding a reliable plumber and etc. 3- Stay calm. In the show I give you a practical tip on how to stay calm in the midst of chaos. 4- Learn to be handy and tech savvy - just a little! For two reasons, if you can fix small things around the restaurant and at least trouble shoot you can save yourself hundreds of dollars, and the second reason is that if a technician smells ignorance, he'll have you for lunch! Now, not all technicians are like that of course.. But there are many of them out there! 5- Have a Disaster budget, repair budget. If you have a budget, and consider the cost, then, you'll be far less stressed and shocked WHEN the disaster hits.
