Love saves the day, I am what I am, I will survive, Love is the message, I'm so excited, les refrains souvent moqués du disco restent plus de 40 ans plus tard des slogans universels, parfois repris en vociférant dans les stades.

Today we reminisce about the Challengemania Hall of Fame and Sarah's induction speech. We hear about the Harley & Katya documentary which chronicled a competitive figure skating duo and the untimely demise of the female skater. We discuss how concussions and injuries from the ice, the difficulties of competing, and the pressure on young athletes contribute to mental health concerns for the skaters. Susie thinks there's still time for Sarah to become a competitive bobsledder, but Sarah isn't so sure. We hear about the man who created the famous and calamitous "disco sucks" event at the professional baseball game in 1979, why the organizer regrets it, and how the people who stormed the field might have something in common with the January 6 insurrectionists. We discuss a study that shows why sleeping with your partner's clothing could help you sleep better even if you're not aware it's theirs. Susie describes what it's like to work a suicide hotline, why a lot of people call who are looking for love, friendship, or romance, how the operators assess risk, and why it's a thankless job. We laugh about Sarah's inability to "wind down" on a phone call and how she realized she has a very annoying habit in social settings. And our minds are blown when we learn the difference between chicken strips and chicken tenders. Who knew? In the late 1970s radio stations were in revolt, declaring Disco music dead, culminating in the notorious Disco Demolition night at Comiskey Park, a promotional event that backfired into a full-on riot.“Disco Sucks” became the battle cry against the decadence of the club scene, its association with gay culture and because the music genre was overexposed- people got sick of the disco beat in bubble gum ads and celebrity vanity records- even the gay robots from Star Wars had a Disco Album.Out of the ashes of Disco’s demise, DJs in Chicago developed a new sound for a new generation which became known as House Music. This style became a hit in clubs catering to black, latino and gay folks, and is now what most electronic music is based on.Today we’re talking to one of the pioneering DJs of House Music, Ralphi Rosario. Recently, the City of Chicago named a street after his DJ group “The Hot Mix Five” for their contribution to the international House Music scene.Join us as Ralphi Rosario gives us some amazing stories about remixing songs for all the divas: Cher, Madonna, Donna Summer and even Jennifer Holliday. Are celebrity DJs ruining everything? We're not the most traditional Holiday Movie watchers, as you can probably gather from our Videodrome tree trimming party. This year we are going to recommend you add Smoke to your holiday viewing list. Not only is it a tremendously overlooked film by Wayne Wang in its own right, but it also ends with one of the best Christmas stories ever.  First, it's told by Auggie (Harvey Keitel) to Paul (William Hurt), then we see it recreated, no dialogue under the end credits while Innocent When You Dream written and performed by Tom Waits plays.  The Beatles: Get Back, a documentary collaboration between the band and filmmaker Peter Jackson, went live on YouTube and Disney Plus on December 21! The film, originally scheduled for release in 2020, faced production delays caused by the coronavirus pandemic.Watch on our website.Happy Holidays and Cya next year!

House Music has its roots in the mid-1980s and really took hold by the latter part of the decade. After the "Disco Sucks" backlash of the early 80's - dance music in general never went away but started a fragmented process due to synthesizers and beat machines becoming more common after the DJ superstars like Giorgio Moroder and Cerrone successfully deployed them in the late 70s. The Evolution of House Music The music evolved into New Wave dance and Hi NRG but the most lasting genre that has permeated every segment of dance music to this day is House Music. The genre by itself splintered early on into sub-genres like Acid House, Deep House, and Hip House which gave rise to its use in commercial hits like "Pump Up the Volume," "Theme From S-Express," "Bizarre Love Triangle" and "Back To Life (However Do You Want Me)," which topped the Billboard Top 100 at the end of the decade. The popularity was fueled even further when Madonna released "Vogue" the following year and rap music became the norm for Hip House before transforming later in the decade to Hip Hop. The genre continued to evolve throughout the decade eventually giving way to Trip Hop, Trance, Techno, Eurodance, Garage and a variety of other electronic dance music genres. 1988 through 1991 of the Ultimate 90's House Music Classics series starts from the underground beginnings of the genre up to win it gained mainstream success. Certainly songs like "Finally," "Show Me Love," and "Gypsy Woman (She's Homeless)" would have never happened if it weren't for the underground humble beginnings that started in Chicago before spreading to New York and eventually globally. THE BEGINNING OF SUPERSTAR DJS The music launched the careers of major DJs who were at the forefront of this movement. So much credit is given to Frankie Knuckles but others like Larry Levan, Steve "Silk" Hurley, Shep Pettibone led to major superstars like David Morales, Tony Moran, Ralphi Rosario, Masters At Work a.k.a. "Little" Louie Vega and Kenny "Dope" Gonzalez, Junior Vasquez, Joey Negro, Basement Boys, MK, Tony Moran, StoneBridge, Todd Terry, Deep Dish, Danny Tenaglia amongst many others which has given way to those that followed in their footsteps to become household names in their own right. There is no possible way to discount how influential House Music was and still is on popular music to this very day. While many of the titles may not be recognizable — once you listen to this epic series you may be hitting yourself upside the head because "SHIT I totally forgot all about that song" from back in the day. Many of these classic underground tracks have been gratuitously sampled in current club hits and some like Marshall Jefferson's "Move Your Body" have been merely updated for today's dancefloor while retaining everything from the original and have become outright hits on their own. [youtube v="QAR8cq5Bl94"] All of this is not to say some songs that capitalized on the House Music craze didn't spawn one-off obnoxious ear worms like Right Said Fred's "I'm Too Sexy," (which is featured here) but frankly so did Disco. As a result, these songs are also included because it's part of the larger narrative that cannot be overlooked. IN CONCLUSION Compiling, mixing and remastering all of these classics songs has been a massive undertaking that's been well worth the time. Everything you remember and don't is included in these and future sets schedule for release over the coming months and these songs have never sounded better. If you're looking for only the hits, there's always the original seven volume set of the 90's House Classics series Party Favorz released in 2010. Created with love, passion, devotion to all things House Music, Party Favorz is taking you on a journey through the past that's the basis for everything you enjoy today. Any aspiring DJs should be playing close attention and listening to these sets for inspiration as to what's possible.

Remember the "Disco Sucks" movement in the early 80s? Dance music never really disappeared; instead, it began a fragmented evolution. Thanks to synth-laden tracks and beat machines made famous by DJ icons like Giorgio Moroder and Cerrone, it morphed into new realms. The Evolution of 90s Classic House Music From New Wave dance and Hi NRG to classic House music in the 90s, the genre's influence has permeated every dance floor. Early subdivisions like Acid House, Hip Hop, Breakbeat, Freestyle and Trip Hop paved the way for commercial sensations like "Pump Up the Volume," by M/A/R/R/S, the Shep Pettibone remix of "Bizarre Love Triangle," and "Vogue" by Madonna as well as the Acid House classic "Theme from S'Express" by S'Express. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NGbUOlTLzqk Spanning from 1988 to 1991, the Ultimate 90's House Music Classics series encapsulates this genre's underground roots before its mainstream success. The 90s House music classics like "Finally," by CeCe Peniston "Show Me Love," by Robin S and "Gypsy Woman (She's Homeless)" by Crystal Waters owe their existence to the humble beginnings in Chicago, spreading to New York and then globally. Superstar DJs and the 90s House Music Classics Classic House music 90s didn't just shape the era; it created legends. Beyond Frankie Knuckles, figures like Larry Levan, Steve "Silk" Hurley, and David Morales were pivotal in the genre. The Shep Pettibone remix of "Rhythm Nation" by Janet Jackson, or Shep's House Mix of "Miss You Much" are a testament to the talent of these pioneers. This series wouldn't be complete without mentioning songs like Soul II Soul's "Keep On Movin'"  and "Back 2 Life (However Do You Want Me)" or the 12" Choice Mix of "Finally" by Ce Ce Peniston. And who could forget the ever-catchy Nomad's "(I Wanna Give You) Devotion"? Whether they were original hits like Snap!'s "The Power" or Marshall Jefferson's "Move Your Body," which is been remastered and released as a hit just recently — they each contributed to the 90s classic House music legacy. Of course, not every track was timeless. Right Said Fred's "I'm Too Sexy" might have been a one-off earworm, but it, along with the Shep Pettibone Remix of Madonna's "Vogue," belongs to the larger narrative of this influential era. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TB54dZkzZOY In Conclusion Compiling, mixing, and remastering the best 90s House remixes has been a remarkable endeavor.

In fact, only 50% of Aural Fixation was, as we discover on a glitter ball-guided tour through 1980’s diana, by Diana Ross. Released in the disco revolution’s twilight years, diana was the Boss breaking free from the shackles of Motown, the record label which made her in the 60s, and was starting to break her. Helping her out were CHIC’s very own Nile Rodgers and Bernard Edwards, taste-making producers riding the wave of hit after hit, and when we say helping... if you ever wondered what a CHIC album would sound like with Diana Ross vocals, you’re in for quite the treat. This episode we look through a queer lens at one of pop culture’s biggest queer icons putting her spin on arguably the queerest sub-genre of music, ever, featuring a song literally written about people being their complete, authentic selves. Even if the singer wasn’t completely aware of that fact. Jump on in, we’re out-queering ourselves! Special thanks to Raymond Day for sharing so many valuable resources on the Disco Demolition/Disco Sucks movement, of which we would encourage you to explore yourself:“When a loudmouthed DJ tried to kill disco, the homophobic and racist implications were impossible to ignore” by Josh O’ConnorDisco Demolition by Red Bull Academy“Why 'Disco sucks!' sucked” by Ben MyersFollow us on Facebook, like us on Instagram, email us and don’t forget the Spotify companion playlist.

We hope the world listens to episode 10 of Blend LA Podcast. After this episode with Chicago House Music legends, Jesse Saunders and Wayne Williams, people will understand how amazing House Music is and how it transcends everything, from skin color to homophobia. These conversations were recorded with no edits, as raw and real and spontaneous as the creativity in House Music itself. The hosts of The AMP Collective had the opportunity to sit down with two of the founders of The Chosen Few DJs, Jesse Saunders and Wayne Williams from Chicago, at the House of Vibes Sunday brunch, at the legendary Fais Dodo in Los Angeles, thanks to our Brother in House and segment producer, DJ Naneek Divad. The first on-location interviews ever! They both break down "House Music" to it's foundation and essence because they are both! DJ Big D and Dayslayer go back to their childhoods, from the days of one turntable and basement parties and find out what life was like in the 70's and 80's for two young Black kids from the Southside of Chicago and how they birthed a music genre known and danced to around the world called HOUSE MUSIC. Blenders will definitely truly understand where House came from after episode 10. EPIC EPISODE 10. South Philadelphia was on fire as IMPACT Wrestling invaded the infamous ECW Arena at the corner of Swanson & Rittner and they left the legendary building with even more memories to add to its long standing history! Did we ever think we would see the day that the Disco Inferno would not only wrestle a match at the ECW Arena but also WIN a match at the ECW Arena and somehow that match was a women’s battle royal? He did it in pure Glen Gilbertti fashion too, what a lous! OH MY GOD, THEY KILLED KENNY! The line wrote itself as Killer Kross killed the adored Kenny the Kendo Stick right in front of a tied up Eddie Edwards leaving Eddie to wallow in sorrow. Where does this all go from here? Does Eddie get revenge? Had Killer Kross finally been able to change Eddie for the better? Rosemary defeated Su Yung in a Demon Collar match and took the Undead Bride hostage! Is this blood feud over? Why do we think that there is no way it ends that easily? The Rascalz, Desmond Xavier, Zachary Wentz, And Trey Miguel displayed a training montage that was right out of a National Lampoons movie and it is absolutely worth watching several times! These guys are pure gold in the acting and skits department and this can only continue to get better! Michael Elgin has been on a tear since arriving in IMPACT Wrestling. First he target and seemingly took out the heavyweight champion Brian Cage he then set his sights on Willie Mack and Rich Swann. After taking Willie out earlier in the night he was set to face Rich Swann and the match that ensued was nothing short of a 5-star classic and being heralded as one of the greatest matches in IMPACT Wrestling history! Johnny Impact and Willie Mack made their presence felt at the end so we are off to the races on some potentially high caliber battles to come! Drugs played a part in Nile's life too from an early age, and he took his first acid trip with Timothy Leary at the age of 15. After learning to play the guitar, he got his musical break touring with the Sesame Street stage show and playing in the house band of Harlem's Apollo Theatre, where he met bassist Bernard Edwards with whom he developed a productive musical partnership and went on to found Chic. Following the Disco Sucks movement of the late 1970s, Nile and Bernard turned to production, and sprinkled their magic dust on Sister Sledge and Diana Ross. School is in session... old skool that is.The legendary DJ Lollipop invites you to reminisce in the distinct sound of the Post-Disco era.If these joints are new to you, here are the original club jams that ushered in a new era - the DNA of hip-hop. If you know these artists, press play on Lollipop's Post-Disco Funk Explosion and fall in love with these favorite classic rare funk gems all over again.Post-Disco is the significant period in popular music history that followed the "death" of commercial disco during late 1970s. The anti-disco sentiment that proliferated at the time was partially due to the over-saturation and the big-business mainstreaming of disco. As a result of the "Disco Sucks" movement and the July 12th 1979 “Disco Demolition Night”, disco records & artists were rejected from airplay and their promotions dropped literally overnight. The face of pop radio changed following this backlash which social critics have described as “a bigoted, macho, attack on non-white and non-heterosexual cultures”. Top 40 radio stations avoided playing music by black artists in an effort to prevent their stations from being labeled with the dreaded "disco" tag.It was the dawn of a new decade and a sonically edited, more stripped-down sound was emerging as a reaction against what was seen as the over-indulgence of disco. Thanks in part to advances in technology, the over produced, melodically complicated "disco sound" was passé, and a simplified sound driven by synthesizers accompanied by rhythm guitar moved dance music toward ever splintering genres. This drift from the original disco sound has been labeled “Post-Disco”. In this music scene are the roots of dance music sub-genres that evolved into Italo-Disco, Boogie, Hi-NRG, Electro, New Wave and early Alternative.Funk music is sometimes overlooked and usually lumped with disco music. However, Funk has its own style, culture and was here before disco's birth. It was born in the mid-'60s by the legendary James Brown. Funk de-emphasizes melody and harmony and brings a strong rhythmic groove of electric bass and drums to the foreground. It usually is heavily syncopated with polyrhythmic rhythms, horn and percussive sections featuring rhythm guitar. Brown had the most outspoken voice in soul music and a groove that would prove to be the future of Funk music. Many of James Brown’s band members such as Bootsy Collins would go on to funk with many other bands like Parliament and Funkadelic which were both created and lead by George Clinton. Parliament had emphasis on horns while Funkadelic had emphasis on psychedelic guitars. Both had a deep, rhythm filled groove that had elements of several genres of music all rolled into one. Clinton had successfully fused together these types of music to create what he called “P-Funk”. The success of Parliament’s "Flashlight" would greatly influence not only funk music, but also New Wave and Hip-Hop.Lollipop’s Post-Disco Funk Explosion celebrates this exact time in musical history when horn sections were replaced by synthesizers and the horns that remained were given simplified arrangements. The classic keyboards of funk, like the Hammond B3 organ and Fender Rhodes piano began to be replaced by new analog synthesizers like the MiniMoog and Yamaha DX7.Join Lollipop and the legions of counterculture groove disciples in enjoying this sonic slice of historic funk cake. In the Post–Disco era between 1979 and 1981, bands that began during the P-Funk era incorporated technological developments to continue to craft funk hits. The magical formula of classic funk guitar and rhythmic horn hits combined with thumping synthesized bass lines became a club phenomenon. Groups such as Cameo, Zapp, Lakeside, The Gap Band, the Bar-Kays, all found their biggest hits during this period, but as styles evolved, funk had lost its commercial impact by the latter half of the 1980’s. This time period witnessed many jazz funk artists like Tom Browne, Lenny White, Don Blackman (Twennynine) and Harvey Mason dip their toes into the post-disco funk pool to create their most successful hits.To quote George Clinton – “Free your mind and your ass will follow.”LOLLIPOP’S POST-DISCO FUNK EXPLOSIONDJ Lollipop IntroZapp - More Bounce to the OunceCameo - Keep It HotYarbrough & Peoples - Don't Stop the MusicThe Bar-Kays - Move Your Boogie BodyVaughn Mason & Crew - Bounce Rock Skate RollTom Browne - Funkin' For JamaicaOne Way ft Al Hudson - Pop ItRay Parker Jr. & Raydio - It's Your NightRaydio ft Ray Parker Jr. - For Those Who Like To GrooveLakeside - Fantastic VoyageGap Band - Burn Rubber on MeTwennynine ft Lenny White - Peanut ButterPrince - ControversyFrankie Smith - Double Dutch BusRick James - Give It to Me BabyHarvey Mason - Groovin' YouThe Jacksons - Can You Feel ItLatoya Jackson - If You Feel the FunkFunkadelic - One Nation Under a GrooveParliament - Flashlight
