In this Sunday's podcast of Pastor Robert and Donna Schuller's online church service, Dr. Schuller explains how we each play an important role in the Kingdom of God.  He lets us know that Jesus also doesn't' force himself on us or coerce us into doing something that's against our will.  If you want to sit at the banquet table with Jesus, all you do is say "yes" to him.  The Bible readings are from Psalm 115 and Luke 14:1-14

In today's online church service Rev. Robert Schuller teaches from Luke 6 verses 1-11Often times in life we have to live by the spirit of the law and not the letter of the law.  It takes wisdom and courage to know when and where to follow and when to lead by example.  Jesus was the Christ and he didn't follow the rules of the religious people.  Instead, he taught us all how to always act out of love and to follow God's laws.  When we do this, we find more peace and fulfillment in life.   Join Rev. Schuller and his wife, Donna any Sunday morning, live at 8am PT

Shine On! I greet you in Jesus' precious name! It is Tuesday morning, the 9th of July, 2024, and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today. We go straight to the word of God, to 2 Timothy 4:2: “Preach the word! Be ready in season and out of season. Convince, rebuke, exhort, with all long-suffering and teaching.” I want to read you a story that was sent to me a couple of hours ago from a dear young man that I am mentoring. “Robert Schuller's teenage daughter, Cindy, was in a motorcycle accident and had to have her leg amputated. John Wayne was a big fan of Robert Schuller. He heard Dr Schuller say on one of his programmes that his daughter had been in an accident and had to have her leg amputated. John Wayne wrote a note to her saying:“Dear Cindy, Sorry to hear about your accident. Hope you will be all right.” Signed, John Wayne. The note was delivered to her and she decided she wanted to write John Wayne a note in reply. She wrote: Dear Mr Wayne,I got your note. Thanks for writing to me. I like you very much. I am going to be all right because Jesus is going to help me. Mr Wayne, do you know Jesus? I sure hope you know Jesus, Mr Wayne, because I can't imagine Heaven being complete without John Wayne being there. I hope if you don't know Jesus, that you will give your heart to Jesus right now. See you in Heaven, (and she signed her name). She had just put that letter in an envelope and sealed it and written across the front of it, “John Wayne”, when a visitor came into her hospital room to see her. He said to her, “What are you doing?” She said, “I have just written a letter to John Wayne, but I don't know how to get it to him. He said, “That's funny. I am going to have dinner tonight with John Wayne at the Newport Club down at Newport Beach. Give it to me and I will give it to him.” She gave him the letter and he put it in his coat pocket. There were twelve of them that night, sitting around a table for dinner. They were all laughing and joking and the guy happened to reach into his pocket and felt the letter, and he remembered. John Wayne was seated at the end of the table and the guy took the letter out and said, “Hey Duke, I was in Schuller's daughter's room today in the hospital and she wrote you a letter and wanted me to give it to you and here it is.” They passed the letter down to John Wayne and he opened it, and someone happened to notice, looking down at John Wayne, he was crying. One of them said, “Duke, what is the matter?” And he said, “I want to read you this letter.” He read the letter then he began to weep again. He folded it up, put it in his pocket and he pointed to the man who had delivered the letter to him and said, “You go and tell that little girl that in this restaurant, right here, John Wayne gives his heart to Jesus Christ and I will see her in Heaven." John Wayne died three weeks later.May God bless you richly. Tell somebody today about Jesus, Goodbye.

We also learn that in modern theology there has been a shift from God-centered religion to self-centered religion, from salvation by faith to a social Gospel. This presentation deals with the miraculous manifestations found in modern Christian worship. The origin and methods of mega-churches and their needs-related religion are discussed and exposed for what they are. What is the source of their inspiration? Find out where mega-preachers such as Schuller, Hybels, Warren, Copeland, and Hinn are going with their philosophies. Other topics covered include: the "needs gospel,” origin of Pentecostalism, Kundalini yoga, similarities between sun worship and Pentecostalism, modern Christian musicians, and the influence of preachers like TB Joshua, Oral Roberts, and Jesse Duplantis. The Long Island Serial Killings, also known as the Gilgo Beach Murders or the Craigslist Ripper case, is an unsolved serial murder investigation centered around the discovery of numerous human remains on Long Island, New York. The case has been ongoing since 2010 and remains unsolved as of my knowledge cutoff in September 2021.The initial discovery took place on December 11, 2010, when police were searching for a missing woman named Shannan Gilbert, a sex worker who had gone to meet a client in Oak Beach, Suffolk County. During the search, police found the remains of four women in the vicinity of Gilgo Beach. These victims were later identified as Megan Waterman, Maureen Brainard-Barnes, Melissa Barthelemy, and Amber Lynn Costello, all of whom were also involved in sex work.As the investigation progressed, additional remains were discovered in the same area. In March and April 2011, six more sets of remains were found, along with the remains of an unidentified toddler, who came to be known as "Baby Doe" or "Jane Doe #6." The additional victims were identified as Jessica Taylor, Valerie Mack, Jane Doe #6 (the toddler), and an Asian male dressed in women's clothing. The police discovered that many of the victims had connections to the sex trade and had advertised their services on websites like Craigslist. This led investigators to suspect that a serial killer, dubbed the "Long Island Serial Killer" or "Craigslist Ripper," was specifically targeting sex workers in the area. The case gained significant media attention and sparked a large-scale investigation involving local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies. The search for additional evidence continued over the years, including the use of cadaver dogs, aerial searches, and the excavation of specific areas.Despite these efforts, no further bodies were found. The investigation faced various challenges and controversies. Shannan Gilbert's disappearance and death were initially treated as unrelated to the serial killings. However, her death was later attributed to accidental drowning. The mishandling of the case and the delayed response to her initial 911 call raised questions about the police's handling of the investigation. Then on July 13th, 2023 an arrest in the case was finally made. The man arrested? Rex Heuermann. In this episode, we hear from Dave Schaller, the man who gave the police the tip about who Heuermann was over a decade ago and even gave them a description of the vehicle the alleged serial killer was driving.(commercial at 9:42)to contact me:bobbycapucci@protonmail.comsource:He came face to face with an alleged serial killer. 12 years later, his tip helped crack the case | AP News

Tisha Schuller is the founding CEO of Adamantine Energy. At Adamantine, Tisha consults with clients ranging from Fortune 100 energy companies to nonprofit environmental organizations on topics related to energy policy, business strategy, politics, and community engagement. With a background as the former president and CEO of the Colorado Oil & Gas Association and as a strategic advisor for Stanford University's Natural Gas Initiative, Tisha offers valuable insights into the energy sector. She's a member of the Natural Petroleum Council and has been on the advisory board to the Secretary of Energy under the Obama, Trump, and Biden administrations. She has authored three books, most recently, Real Decarbonization: How Oil and Gas Companies Are Seizing the Low-Carbon Future, as well as The Gamechanger's Playbook: How Oil & Gas Leaders Thrive in an Era of Continuous Disruption, and Accidentally Adamant, her own story of her time running the Colorado Oil & Gas Association.MCJ exists to break down silos and to help people understand climate change, and in some ways, it feels like Tisha at Adamantine is doing the same thing with a different orientation. She comes from oil and gas and she's focused on the energy transition and how to help oil and gas leaders navigate their companies through it. Not all listeners will agree with Tisha's perspective, but a big part of her message is in trying to start from a shared vision of the future and work backward. We enjoyed hearing about how she uses this approach today and the perspectives she's gained in doing so.In this episode, we cover: [03:05]: Tisha's podcast Energy Thinks[05:10]: Different mindsets on energy and climate and how to speak to an oil and gas audience[06:57]: Climate “personas” and how Tisha finds common ground among them[10:12]: The assumption that everyone thinks they're doing good[13:07]: Lessons from a DAC project community engagement[16:01]: Perspective on youth activists opposing projects[18:18]: Challenges permitting any new energy projects[21:27]: Tisha's personal journey on fossil fuel use views[23:38]: Consequences of US stopping oil and gas production[32:02]: Oil and gas company evolution archetypes[34:04]: No option but to change from status quo[36:00]: Entering era of climate action execution[37:20]: Role of startups vs large companies in the energy transition[40:07]: Improved community benefits from new projects[42:07]: Industry population shift driving change[45:13]: Making space for oil and gas in climate solutionsEpisode recorded on Nov 20, 2023 (Published on Jan 2, 2024) Get connected with MCJ: Jason Jacobs X / LinkedInCody Simms X / LinkedInYin Lu X / LinkedInMCJ Podcast / Collective / YouTube*If you liked this episode, please consider giving us a review! In an ideal end state, Colorado's energy would be affordable, reliable, and leave the smallest possible environmental footprint. To achieve this, energy would be appreciated as a central force that enables progress—rather than being viewed by legislators and policymakers as a necessary evil. Consumers would be empowered with choices that reflect their means, values, and circumstances. While we understand that both state and national energy objectives will continue to prioritize lowering the greenhouse gas (GHG) footprint of energy, in an ideal state, decarbonization would be one among many balanced tradeoffs. In this ideal state, Colorado leaders would make economic development a central consideration of energy policy. After all, this would position Colorado to sustainably reduce GHG emissions with public support, while attracting the businesses, workers, students, innovators, and partners required to undertake the massive task of evolving the energy system. You can read more about this issue from our full report, found on our website. Guest host and CSI Colorado Executive Director Kelly Caufield welcomes the report's authors, Tisha Schuller and Doug Benevento to the show to discuss its findings, its recommendations, and to discuss an ideal path forward. The conversation covers innovation, decarbonization, permitting, electrification and much more. Colorado can lead in a multitude of energy issues, but it will take fortitude, creativity, and collaboration.  Thank you for listening to Common Sense Digest. “Is Haiti a Failed State?” I asked Dr. Robert Fatton. Think about his question from the perspective that there is no civil war in Haiti. Yet, the country is in total and complete chaos. In this episode, my guest, Dr. Fatton, answers the above question and talks about the history of why democracy did not take hold in Haiti, and how violent gangs became so powerful there. In fact so powerful that they could restrict the movement of Haiti's prime minister, and so powerful that Haiti's government outnumbered and outgunned, has asked for international military intervention to bring some sense of security back to Haiti. But the international community has militarily intervened in Haiti in the past - all to no avail. What's more is that Haitians, a proud nation, have grown weary of these ineffective interventions. Non-military interventions have also disrupted Haiti's domestic affairs. Here, Dr. Fatton tells us the story of how Hillary Clinton, as our Secretary of State, interfered in Haiti's election. And years later, representatives of the UN did the same thing - with a mere tweet! Even helpful assistance projects have had negative impacts on Haiti's culture, society, and economy. For example, did you know, that over the last decades, the international community has refused to channel assistance to Haiti through its government? Why? Because Haiti's government is notoriously corrupt. So instead, international aid went to NGOs - non-governmental organizations - which in turn proliferated and grew powerful in Haiti. As this happened, Haiti's government retrenched. And as the government shrunk, where do you think the corrupt government employees went to work? The NGOs! This episode is essentially the continuation of my 2021 conversation with Dr. Fatton, during which he shared the history of Haiti from its bloody but glorious founding to the assassination of its president, Jovenel Moïse. You can listen to that episode here: https://bit.ly/HbN-S1E23s. Dr. Fatton is the Julia A. Cooper Professor of Government and Foreign Affairs in the Department of Politics at the University of Virginia. He is also a former chair of that department as well as a former associate dean of the Graduate School there. In 2011, Dr. Fatton received the Award for Excellence of the Haitian Studies Association for his “commitment and contribution to the emerging field of Haitian Studies for close to a quarter of a century.” To learn more about Dr. Fatton, you can visit his academic homepage: https://politics.virginia.edu/people/profile/rf/ Also, after the 2021 earthquake, I spoke to Dr. Mark Schuller about the role of NGOs in Haiti. While celebrity visitors to Haiti, such as Bill Clinton, George Clooney, and Sean Penn, brought much attention and millions of dollars to that country, how NGOs changed Haiti's society, culture and economy is complicated. Let's just put it this way: not all good intentions end well! You can listen to my conversation with Dr. Schuller here: https://bit.ly/HbN-S1E32s. I hope you enjoy these episodes.
