Anderson Cooper, AGT Winner, The View, CNN, Macy's Thanksgiving Parade, Fox, The Talk.Happy Thanksgiving!!!I Talk with Landau about his Succesful His Career & What He is Grateful For! His is a true rags to riches story; car wash rags. When Landau Eugene Murphy Jr. showed up to audition for America's Got Talent, he was singing to pass the time while grinding out a living washing cars. The only “nice” clothes he owned were the ones on his back: a pair of jeans, a modest button down striped shirt, and jacket. Fortunately, you don't need a large wardrobe to win America's heart. He's performed all over the world, from China to New York City, Los Angeles to Europe where he had the honor to perform for U.S. servicemen and their families stationed there. He's sung the national anthem prior to games by the Los Angeles Lakers, Washington Wizards, New York Rangers, Baltimore Orioles, Oklahoma City Thunder, Washington Nationals, and his beloved West Virginia University Mountaineers during a nationally televised homecoming game. You need talent, and Landau has truckloads of that. Since wowing the judges with his interpretations of classics by the likes of Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin and walking away with the million dollar grand prize in front of 14 million weekly viewers on AGT, Landau has released his Columbia Records debut “That's Life” (the CD hit #1 on the Billboard Jazz chart and was produced by Grammy winner Steve Tyrell, who also helmed Rod Stewart's Great American Songbook album). Landau has performed all over the country, from the California State Fair to New York's famous Apollo Theatre, Caesars Palace in Las Vegas to the Marina Civic Center in Florida and all points in between. Along the way, he has appeared on The Today Show, The View, CNN, Fox and Friends, The Wendy Williams Show, The Talk, Anderson Cooper, Tom Joyner, Sirius XM, NPR, and dozens of other outlets. Landau was named “West Virginian of the Year” by his home state where he has performed a series of sold out concerts helping raise over a half million dollars for state charities. He's played a special command performance at the Governors Inauguration, won Reality TV Personality of the Year in Hollywood, and was honored to perform with his band for U.S. Troops in Germany. He is currently on tour with Glenn Leonard, formally of The Temptations; Joe Blunt, formally of The Drifters and Joe Coleman, formally of The Platters. But all that success hasn't made Landau forget his roots. He was born in the Mountain State of West Virginia and continues to live there rather than move to entertainment industry hubs like Los Angeles or New York. “West Virginia will always be my home,” says Landau, “and home and family are the most important thing in the world to me. I can always fly out to LA or New York for work, but being here helps keep me humble and grounded. I'm just very fortunate to be living my dream.”Recently, Landau and award winning co-author Rick Robinson have written America's Got Talent Winner Landau Eugene Murphy Jr.: From Washing Cars to Hollywood Star, a book chronicling Landau's All-American success story. He's also completed an album full of holiday favorites, Christmas Made For Two. His touring schedule stays booked with shows all over the country including numerous CD and book signing appearances. He and the incredibly talented “Landau Eugene Murphy Jr. Big Band” are currently beginning his Classic Christmas Crooners Tour with a full slate of concerts at home and abroad. Joe Coleman, the legendary artist whose work digs into the darkest corners of the human psyche, joins us in the Crypt to discuss everything from painting serial killers like Carl Panzram, Albert Fish, and Ed Gein, to sharing the secrets of his controversial art. Join us as we delve into the contradictory beauty of the grotesque and the divine. Joe takes us inside his Odditorium, a personal collection as eerie as his paintings, where he houses macabre artifacts like a painting by John Wayne Gacy, the actual letter Albert Fish sent to Grace Budd's mother, a lock of Charles Manson's hair, and a Christmas card from Ed Gein. These relics serve as a tangible connection, DNA, to the energy that Joe channels into his art. We explore the paradoxes of life and death that permeate Joe's art, discuss his fascination with the redacted stories of the Bible, the corruption of the soul and flesh, and dive into his experiences selling art to icons like HR Giger, Johnny Depp, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Iggy Pop. –
For my 600th episode, the great artist Joe Coleman joins the show to celebrate his phenomenal new career-spanning retrospective book, A DOORWAY TO JOE: The Art of Joe Coleman (Fantagraphics). We talk about art, mortality, mythography, history, the corruption of the flesh, the nature of evil, his Odditorium & the power of relics, Dr. Mombooze-o's send-off for his dead parents, playing Whac-A-Mole with T-cell lymphoma, getting arrested for being an Infernal Machine, taxi-driving in NYC's Travis Bickle era, the inspiration of the Hubble telescope, the pagan Celtic roots in Irish Catholicism, what it's like to work on one square-inch of a painting for 8 hours at a time, our respective appearances on the Uncle Floyd Show, playing in the Steel Tips with Patrick McDonnell & Karen O'Connell, and how he found his love and muse in Whitney Ward. (Also, this one's got an interminable intro, so jump to the 15:45 mark to start the conversation.) In November 2023, Fannie Mae implemented a game-changing reduced down payment requirement of just 5% for two-to-four-unit properties for conventional loans. This presents a golden opportunity for house hackers looking to purchase or refi a two-to-four-unit property. However, few sources have broken down what this means for investors. Here, I'll look at this new product, compare it to alternatives, and discuss what this means for real estate investors. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
Tune in to Divabetic's podcast on the 42nd Annual Mermaid Parade with our guests, Coney Island USA's Artistic Director Adam Rinn and Poet Lorraine Brooks. The Mermaid Parade is the nation's largest art parade. It brings together creative minds in art and fashion and attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors to Brooklyn's amusement district. The Parade originated to help preserve the tradition of Mardi Gras-type events popular in Coney Island between 1903 and 1954. This year, painter, performer, and sideshow historian Joe Coleman will be King Neptune, and his wife, artist, and photographer Whitney Ward will be Queen Mermaid. The couple will officially open the beaches for the beginning of summer and celebrate the sun, sand, sea, and salt air. Adam Rinn, Coney Island USA's Artistic Director, is a Coney Island native who has worked as a sword swallower, strongman, and variety performer for the past 20 years, so you're sure to enjoy this fun and colorful interview! Poet Lorraine Brooks revisits her groundbreaking poem "Beauty & The Beach," which premiered over thirteen years ago on Divabetic's Roundtable podcast. "Beauty & The Beach" resonates deeply with podcast listeners and Diabetic blog readers. Since then, we have reshared Lorraine's poem on body love, swimwear, and beaches on subsequent podcasts and blog entries. Lorraine shares how her opinions about her body and wearing a swimsuit have changed over the past decade, but her feelings about her diabetes diagnosis have not. She emphasizes the time, effort, and care she has put into her diabetes management, which has helped her remain free of diabetes-related complications. Our discussion also touches on how negative self-talk can hinder us from enjoying life. Lorraine has agreed to revisit the themes o

VYS0026 | It's a Wand-erful Life - Vayse to Face with Douglas Batchelor Pt. 1 - Show Notes Hine and Buckley are back for the first episode of season 2 and they've brought Douglas Batchelor along with them! Doug is the host and creator of the incomparable What Magic is This? - a podcast about Magic, the Occult, the Esoteric, the Paranormal, the Supernatural and the Weird and surely the single most frequently mentioned magical resource throughout the first season of Vayse. In the first part of this two-part, slightly giddy interview, the roots of Doug's magical life are revealed as he talks about how he graduated from being a disillusioned materialist teenager to a punk-rock chaos magician to a self-styled-necromantic-performative-ritual-magician with an awesome occult podcast. The conversation bounces around: from synchronicities to Bob Ross, from how to start your own magical practice to Hot Wheels skating gear, from podcasting as a work of magic to the psychic influence of the Lost Boys soundtrack... and all whilst Hine and Buckley try their best to uncover and assimilate the source of Doug's seemingly inexhaustible enthusiasm and positivity... Recorded 3 August 2023 Big thanks go to Doug for being so generous with his time and enthusiastic with sharing his knowledge - we were not expecting for this to be a double episode!!! Si & Veronica are celebrating an early bday for Vee for episode 197! Two flaxen-haired villains came out of this dramatic second episode. Cassidy and Shanae may have their cockiness thrown back in their faces really soon. Hilary Duff excited the girls in ways that Clayton never will, even though the date she led was pretty dumb. Will we even remember the status of the rose ceremony cliffhanger when the show comes back in two weeks? There might be some relationship shake ups in bachelor nation with rumors swirling about a Riley/Maurissa break up, and Clare being seen hanging off of her former contestant, Blake Monar, in Indiana. (Bachelor talk ends at time marker 38m:03s) The entertainment world lost one of the OG dads with Bob Saget's passing. Machine Gun Kelly and Megan Fox are engaged, and maybe they should just plan a joint punk wedding with Kravis. Award shows might be a dying breed after the Golden Globes sans broadcast and the Grammys having to postpone due to Covid concerns. Vee went “Yikes!” to Joe Coleman, one of Michelle Young's top men from her season, having old college sexual assault allegations/filings being brought to light. Anderson Cooper, AGT Winner, The View, CNN, Fox and Friends, The Wendy Williams Show, The Talk,Happy Thanksgiving!!!He's Conquered Covid-19, Got His GED & Has Been Busy with LIVEl Concerts & Ceremonies in this Age of Social Distancing in Fall/Winter. I Talk with Landau about his Thoughts' on His Career, Adapting to the NEW Normal in Entertainment Events. What is He Grateful For. I'm just very fortunate to be living my dream.” Recently, Landau and award winning co-author Rick Robinson have written America's Got Talent Winner Landau Eugene Murphy Jr.: From Washing Cars to Hollywood Star, a book chronicling Landau's All-American success story. Thrashings! Did you miss last weeks episode but don't have 4 hours to devote to The Bachelorette tonight? You're in luck! Enjoy this brief recap of last week's episode that Sara forgot to post during last weeks eclipse energy vortex. Enjoy on your lunch break or evening-commute before tonight's new episode premieres! Last week on The Bachelorette: MINNESOTA JOE gets the first date card. Michelle walks Joe through the corridors of her high school and Joe walks Michelle through the corridors of his psyche, sharing his high school basketball trauma. Karmic patterns reveal themselves and Sara throws a curve ball with the trashiest TRASH TAKE yet, about who Joe Coleman will ultimately end up with. Viking Games is the theme of the group date and little man big ego, Chris S is given a horse-ass and hoofs (with lifts!) as a uniform and finds himself personifying the Chiron archetype to a T! His deepest insecurities will surely provide collective healing en mass. While in the future, Chris may have a shot at redemption if he gets cast on paradise and returns to the small screen with an evolved, upgraded persona, but as of this episode, he's right about one thing — he's “not like the other guys” - he's way worse. NO ROSE FOR YOU! In other notable contestants, Brendan, who is truly madly deeply in love, may not be the "biggest baddest viking" of the bunch, but he does have the most similar speaking voice to Michael Jackson. Speaking of Chiron, Despite his winning the group date challenge and some special 1:1 time with Michelle, Sara realizes she can not love Clayton fully because his underbite mirrors the part of herself that she has the hardest time loving. DEEP. Chiron abounds! On the next 1:1 date, Michelle has a fabulous time with frontrunner Nayte. "Best date of her life" and the worst dating history -- we learn her last boyfriend of three years ended when she contracted a life-threatening illness and he couldn't care less! Despite ignoring her at the teddy bear slumber party, it looks like Nayte's got a real shot! Finally at the cocktail party, Martin's gemini moon's rears it's chatty head again and he says all the wrong things. Swolu call's him two-faced which is extremely perceptive seeing as he likely is not privvy to Martin's moon sign. While Swolu didn't win the episode outright, he did win “most intuitive."Leroy and Casey who have both had no screen time go home, so thats fine. Talk to you tonight after episode 6! First of all, thank you to all our patrons for making 23rd Mind TV possible! https://www.patreon.com/vanessa23carl Carl just started a crowdfunder to support his An Art Apart film series and forthcoming book! https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/an-art-apart-number-one#/ “An Art Apart” – a series of documentary films about artists and their creative processes. So far, I’ve filmed 14 artists: Vicki Bennett (People Like Us), Gustaf Broms, Charles Gatewood, Genesis Breyer P-Orridge, Kenneth Anger, Carl Michael von Hausswolff, Angela Edwards, MV Carbon, John Duncan, Gea Philes, Michael Gira, Mark McCloud, Val Denham, and Little Annie Bandez. I have so far finished and released five of these films: Vicki Bennett (People Like Us), Gustaf Broms, Charles Gatewood, Genesis Breyer P-Orridge, and Kenneth Anger. These films have been well received and have been watched by thousands of people all over the world online, in cinemas and on DVDs. (Also worth mentioning is that my 2019 documentary, “Anton LaVey – Into the Devil’s Den,” was successfully crowdfunded at IndieGoGo, and has since been watched by thousands of people online, in cinemas and on BluRay/DVD.) I am now preparing two manifestations at the same time: – A “stand alone” film called “An Art Apart: Number One.” This will become a one hour film (approximately), containing the best of the best from these very unique people/films. My aim is for “Number One” to become an inspirational and creative blast for anyone who watches the film. – A book with all the interviews/conversations, also called "An Art Apart: Number One." The book will also contain never before published bonus interviews with brilliant artists Joe Coleman, JG Thirlwell and Alison Blickle, made in New York and Los Angeles in 2016-2017. Anderson Cooper, AGT Winner, The View, CNN, Fox and Friends, The Wendy Williams Show, The Talk, He's Conquered Covid-19, Got His GED & Has Been Busy with Virtual Concerts & Ceremonies in this Age of Social Distancing. I Talk with Landau about his Thoughts'on His Career, Adapting to the NEW Normal in Entertainment Events & His Healing from the Virus. Happy Holiday's!!! His is a true rags to riches story; car wash rags. When Landau Eugene Murphy Jr. showed up to audition for America’s Got Talent, he was singing to pass the time while grinding out a living washing cars. The only “nice” clothes he owned were the ones on his back: a pair of jeans, a modest button down striped shirt, and jacket. Fortunately, you don’t need a large wardrobe to win America’s heart. You need talent, and Landau has truckloads of that. Since wowing the judges with his interpretations of classics by the likes of Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin and walking away with the million dollar grand prize in front of 14 million weekly viewers on AGT, Landau has released his Columbia Records debut “That’s Life” (the CD hit #1 on the Billboard Jazz chart and was produced by Grammy winner Steve Tyrell, who also helmed Rod Stewart’s Great American Songbook album). Landau has performed all over the country, from the California State Fair to New York’s famous Apollo Theatre, Caesars Palace in Las Vegas to the Marina Civic Center in Florida and all points in between. He’s played a special command performance at the Governors Inauguration, won Reality TV Personality of the Year in Hollywood, and was honored to perform with his band for U.S. Troops in Germany. He is currently on tour with Glenn Leonard, formally of The Temptations; Joe Blunt, formally of The Drifters and Joe Coleman, formally of The Platters. But all that success hasn’t made Landau forget his roots. I’m just very fortunate to be living my dream.” Recently, Landau and award winning co-author Rick Robinson have written America’s Got Talent Winner Landau Eugene Murphy Jr.: From Washing Cars to Hollywood Star, a book chronicling Landau’s All-American success story. He’s also completed an album full of holiday favorites, Christmas Made For Two. His touring schedule stays booked with shows all over the country including numerous CD and book signing appearances. He and the incredibly talented “Landau Eugene Murphy Jr. Big Band” are currently beginning his Classic Christmas Crooners Tour with a full slate of concerts at home and abroad. The WSFI 88.5FM dream of establishing a Joan Carter McHugh Catholic Resource Center will become a reality, thanks to our successful Shareathon -with these Carmel High School Students pulling out all the stops to urge listeners to give the gift of the Catholic Faith. They sing, they evangelize, and they speak about how important it is for us to keep the Catholic Faith alive for generations to come. They could have been home studying for tests.. but they decided to put their faith into action. Anyone worried about the future holds, will love to hear that they are alive and well, and committed to all things good and holy in our Faith. Great job David, Joe, Mike and Szymon. On behalf of the WSFI listeners, we are eternally grateful.

Joined today by the iconic, world-renowned painter, writer, and performer New York Artist Joe Coleman and the godfather of true crime writing, Harold Schechter. In a rare interview, Joe tells us about his friendship with the late Anthony Bourdain, that famous final episode that he was featured on, how it happened and what Tony meant to him. We hear how Joe and Harold, met and if I can join their circle of friends. Harold keeps us up to date on his life: hint (becoming a grandfather, authoring a new series of books and Red Dead Redemption 2) – not in that order. Joe opens up and lets us know how growing up in an Irish Catholic environment led him to paint some of the world’s most intricate and jaw dropping paintings, what brought him to the Big Apple in the 70’s and what he misses about those times. Of course we talk about the secret Odditorium and the artifacts in there such as Albert Fish’s famous gruesome letter, Ed Gein’s Christmas card and Charles Manson’s hair. From Harold being a pallbearer at Joe’s wedding to Joe’s celebrity clientele. Joe and Harold leave us all speechless and wanting more. Joe Coleman jr. Innovator and Disrupting the Warranty Industry
On this edition of Parallax Views, Dr. Harold Schechter, one of America's most prolific and voluminous true crime authors, joins the show for a wide-ranging conversation on history's real-life monsters from Ed Gein to H.H Holmes that attempts elucidate why society is fascinated by serial killers, violent art, murder, and mayhem. The conversation begins with Dr. Schechter explaining how he became interested in true crime through his teaching literature, specifically of the gothic horror genre, as a professor at Queens College, CUNY. This leads us into a discussion of his first book, Deviant: The Shocking True Story of the Original "Psycho", about the ghoulish exploits of the murderous graverobber "The Butcher of Plainfield" Ed Gein. We delve into how Gein served as a source of inspiration for Psycho, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, and The Silence of the Lambs as well as a brief rundown of Gein's case that attempts to separate fact from fiction. From there we delve a bit into why we, as a society, are so fascinated by serial killers. Dr. Schechter makes a connection between the gruesomeness of folklore and the mythic status that killers take on in our culture. He argues that their are probably psychological reasons that we tell ourselves stories real-life murderers and madmen. We then dive into one of Dr. Schechter's most famous works, Depraved: The Shocking True Story of America's First Serial, which chronicles the life and crimes of serial killer H.H. Holmes. Holmes has re-captured the popular imagination in America thanks to Erik Larsons' The Devil in the White City and the hit TV series American Horror Story: Hotel, but Dr. Schechter was one of the first to revisit the case. The story of Holmes is one of insurance scams and murder combined that has taken on a legendary status since it first hit the headlines in the late 1800's. Dr. Schechter discusses how he came to question a lot of the more sensationalistic aspects of the Holmes case, which have now become accepted uncritically as fact for many, that were popularized by the yellow journalism of Holmes day. This opens up a discussion about how Dr. Schechter goes about his research in a field that is often rife with misinformation and sensationalism. During this segment we make reference to Wes Craven's The Hills Have Eyes and the legend of Sawney Bean, Tobe Hooper's Eaten Alive and Joe Ball, "The Confessions Killer" Henry Lee Lucas, the ways in which folklore about murderers and other rogues becomes accepted as historical fact, and even Grimm's fairytales. We then get into Harold Schechter's foray into cultural studies with Savage Pastimes: A Cultural History of Violent Entertainment. Dr. Schechter illuminates how violence has always existed in all forms of popular media and that each time moral panics arise around them from comic books to video games. At this point we also delve into how true crime books have existed longer than most people would think and the way the horrific and grotesque has always played a role in art. Dr. Schechter also expressed how man seems to have a violent nature but that there may be a silver lining in the way that we channel our aggressive tendencies into media. In talking about violent art we eventually get to talking about one of Dr. Schechter's closest friends, the gifted artist Joe Coleman. Coleman makes mind-blowing artwork which contains painting within paintings dealing with historical figures, many of whom walked on the dark side of the human experience. After that we get back to the topic of true crime by discussing how Dr. Schechter's work deals primarily with murderers from before the popular serial killer boom of the 70s, 80s, and 90s. This leads us to one of Dr. Schechter's newer books, Man-Eater: The Saga of Alfred Packer, about the true story of an American cannibal in the frontier west as well as the unusual movie about him, made by South Park's Matt Stone and Trey Parker, Cannibal: The Musical. We begin to wrap up by discussing the seeming transition that has taken place from the dominance of serial killers in culture to mass murders like school shooters. Dr. Schechter has some interesting takes on what may be behind this that provide some real food for thought. And finally, Dr. Schechter briefly talks about his newest book Hell's Princess: The Mystery of Belle Gunness, Butcher of Men and his Amazon Originals series Bloodlands. If you're a true crime fan this episode is one you won't want to miss! CHECK OUT DR. HAROLD SCHECHTER'S AMAZON ORIGINALS SERIESBLOODLANDS
In this MarTech Interview, Adam and I share the podcast with Emarsys Head of Content, Lindsay Tjepkema. Lindsay is a leader in the MarTech industry and her podcast, Marketer + Machine, has skyrocketed in popularity. The Content Experience conference from Uberflip (CONEX) was absolutely incredible. I've never seen a more intimate setting with so many of today's greatest marketing speakers. It was fantastic - everyone was accessible and totally brought their best presentations. Not to mention a Family Feud style game show! Speakers included Omar Johnson, Matthew Luhn, Sean Stanleigh, Chris Moody, Seth Lieberman, John Common, Moira Van Den Akker, Tyler Ryll, Lisa Kenney, Nnamdi Nwoke, Brandi Smith, Nicole Dinicola, David Cardiel, Marta Montero, Daniel Day, Nate Dame, Anna Hrach, Rosilyn Rayborn, Matthew Margy, Sangram Vajre, Laura Ramos, Yoav Schwartz, Page Gerber, Ed Breault, Melanie Chapman, Jenn Kloc, Lisa Kenney, Kara Widdison, Amy Landino, Scott Stratten, Randy Frisch, Scott Stratten, Tamsen Webster, Caitlin Angeloff, Marcus Sheridan, Carlos Abler, Joe Coleman, Andrew Davis, Nate Skinner. And most of the conference was MC'd by the amazing Jay Baer. If there was a central theme to the last day of the conference, it was to inspire content developers to stop doing what everyone else does and bring innovation and creativity to your craft. Special Guests: Adam Small and Lindsay Tjepkema.

The Total Tutor Neil Haley will interview Leonard, Coleman & Blunt. Leonard, Coleman and Blunt have been around the world and back again several times each as the lead singers of three of the most legendary vocal groups of all time: the Temptations, Platters and Drifters. The three Washington, DC natives have a back-story right out of a Hollywood movie; Leonard, Coleman & Blunt grew up singing together in church and on street corners throughout the 1960s before finding fame and fortune separately, then reuniting after 30 years to harmonize together once again. Glenn Leonard and his sweet tenor voice joined Motown's legendary Temptations, recording ten hit albums, touring the world, and singing lead on many of their 1970s and 1980's R&B hits. Joe Coleman joined the Platters for a two-decade stint as the group's lead singer in addition to gaining a successful career as a songwriter and playwright. Joe Blunt performed and recorded with the Drifters for over a decade in venues all over the world alongside Ben E. King and Johnny Moore, earning a Lifetime Achievement Award from Sony Records. Concert attendees are treated to incredible showmanship, classic dance moves, and some of the biggest hits of all time, including “My Girl," “The Way You Do The Things You Do," “Get Ready,” “The Great Pretender,” “Only You,” “Smoke Gets In Your Eyes,” “Under The Boardwalk,” “On Broadway,” “Save The Last Dance For Me,” and many, many more.

Providence native Dave Lipscomb first showed signs of artistic talent at the age of one. Despite his being raised in creatively stifling pockets of New England and upstate New York, this never discouraged his true calling as a visual artist. In fact, his art gradually evolved from "innocent" cartoons into something much darker as his disgust for his surroundings and their corresponding social conventions grew.in Providence, R.I., The United States Website https://www.facebook.com/dave.lipscomb.3 Genre Music, Horror, Humor and Comedy Influences Henry Rollins, Anton Szandor LaVey, Vincent Price, Douglas Kenney, H.P. Still, that doesn't make the situation any easier, so in this episode, Joe Coleman, cofounder and CEO of Contently, gets way into the weeds of selling into the enterprise. We also hear some valuable lessons around marketplace businesses and what it's like to be educating the market at the same time you're selling into it. Joe Coleman, a shoemaker, was accused of stabbing his wife to death near the town of Slate Fork, Adair County, Kentucky, as recorded in the Burkesville Herald Almanac for 1899. Convicted on circumstantial evidence and the testimony of his sister-in-law who was living with them at the time, Coleman was tried in nearby Cumberland County and sentenced to death. While being driven to the place of execution in a two-wheeled ox cart, Coleman sat on his coffin and played a tune that has come down as "Coleman's March." Coleman protested his innocence to the last. Also attached to the tune is the legend that before Coleman was hanged he offered his fiddle to anyone who could play the tune as well as he, and at least one source identified a Kentucky fiddler named Franz Prewitt as the recipient. Prewitt's descendants remembered him as having been indeed a fine fiddler. The tune dates back to the 18th century British Isles. It is known by various names, one being “Old Hickory” after President Andrew Jackson.
