Moody Soliman, CEO & Co-founder of Ryp Labs: $11 Million Raised to Eliminate Food Waste Through Natural Sticker Technology

Category Visionaries

Ryp Labs is tackling one of the world's most pressing problems: food waste. Every minute, enough food is wasted globally to feed over 1 million people for a day. If food waste were a country, it would be the third-largest producer of greenhouse gases behind the US and China. In this episode of Category Visionaries, we sat down with Moody Soliman, CEO and Co-founder of Ryp Labs, to learn how his ag-tech startup raised $11 million to develop a revolutionary sticker technology that extends produce shelf life using natural plant compounds.   Topics Discussed: Ryp Labs' five-year R&D journey to develop natural food preservation technology The pivot from targeting US/European markets to focusing on Central and South America How the company leveraged trade shows and competitions for organic marketing The decision to target distributors and packing houses over direct-to-consumer sales Scaling challenges and the critical "ship it" moment that validated their technology Future expansion plans into meat, seafood, dairy, and other food categories GTM Lessons For B2B Founders: Follow market pull, not your assumptions: Ryp Labs initially targeted US and European markets, assuming these large, developed markets would be most receptive. However, they found no traction because established players had been "doing the same thing for 50 years" and were resistant to change. When they pivoted to Central and South America, they discovered customers who were highly motivated to export internationally and faced significant cold chain breaks. Moody explained, "We ended up completely shifting our go to market strategy to focus on those areas... they are highly motivated to ship their fruit internationally and to export it to the US or to Europe, because that's where they can get much higher prices." B2B founders should test multiple markets and follow where customers are genuinely desperate for solutions, not where they think the biggest opportunity exists. Use trade shows and competitions as unfair advantages: Ryp Labs leveraged their "fun and easy to comprehend" technology to win numerous competitions and secure organic media coverage. Moody noted, "We have almost unfair competitive advantage that it's such a fun technology and such an easy technology to comprehend. So we won a lot of those competitions and awards and that gives us free advertisement." For deep-tech startups with limited marketing budgets, industry competitions and trade shows can provide disproportionate exposure and credibility. B2B founders should identify events where their technology's unique aspects can create memorable impressions. Break the engineer's pencil at the right moment: Despite his team's protests that the product wasn't ready, Moody made the critical decision to ship to a major retailer in 2021. "All right guys, we've taken it as far as we can right now. We just got to put it out there and put it in a customer's hand... we'll learn if it doesn't work." This decision provided the validation and momentum needed to continue development. B2B founders in deep-tech must balance perfectionism with market feedback - sometimes shipping an imperfect product to the right customer is more valuable than months of additional development. Target the most centralized part of the supply chain: Ryp Labs initially considered selling directly to consumers but recognized the variability in handling would create inconsistent results and blame on their technology. Instead, they focused on distributors and packing houses where "all 1 million pack of strawberries is going from the farm into 2 degrees C" with predictable transportation conditions. This centralized approach allows them to "sell a million stickers to a distributor as opposed to going to 100,000 customers and selling them 10 stickers each." B2B founders should identify the most controlled and centralized points in their target industry's value chain. Design for regulatory constraints from day one: Coming from the medical device industry, Moody applied a crucial lesson: "You don't develop a technology and then go back and look at the regulatory process... You have to look at that on the front end, really understand what the requirements are going to be from a safety standpoint, and then develop the product to meet those requirements." This approach enabled Ryp Labs to achieve OMRI listing for organic produce and use only food-grade compounds already recognized as safe by the FDA. B2B founders should map regulatory requirements early and design their technology to meet these constraints rather than retrofitting compliance later.   //   Sponsors: Front Lines — We help B2B tech companies launch, manage, and grow podcasts that drive demand, awareness, and thought leadership. www.FrontLines.io The Global Talent Co. — We help tech startups find, vet, hire, pay, and retain amazing marketing talent that costs 50-70% less than the US & Europe.  www.GlobalTalent.co   //   Don't Miss: New Podcast Series — How I Hire Senior GTM leaders share the tactical hiring frameworks they use to build winning revenue teams. It's Wednesday, June 4th, A.D. 2025. This is The Worldview in 5 Minutes heard on 140 radio stations and at www.TheWorldview.com.  I'm Adam McManus. (Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Jonathan Clark and Adam McManus Christians persecuted in Mali, Africa by military junta Christians are facing increased persecution in Mali after the military junta initiated a crackdown in May. The military of the West African nation dissolved all political parties in the crackdown. Jo Newhouse with Open Doors Sub-Saharan Africa said, “Christians in Mali have faced increasing persecution over the past few years. By closing the democratic space, and further encroaching on civil liberties, the junta is adding unwelcome pressure to an already volatile situation.” Please pray for the church in Mali, Africa. The country is ranked 14th on the Open Doors' World Watch List of the most difficult places to be a Christian.  Ukrainian evangelist: Thousands coming to Christ A Ukrainian evangelist addressed the European Congress on Evangelism in Berlin, Germany last Thursday. Evangelist David Karcha reported that Ukrainian Evangelicals have been ministering to their fellow countrymen since Russia invaded the country in 2022. Churches are seeing thousands of people come to Christ during the war. Karcha said, “In the world's eyes, Ukraine is a story of war. But in God's eyes, it is a story of revival, a story that reminds us all that the Gospel advances.” 2 Corinthians 10:4-5 says, “For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds … and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God.” American economy predicted to grow by only 1.6% this year The Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development cut its economic growth outlook for the United States. The group forecasts the U.S. economy will expand by 1.6% this year, down from its previous forecast of 2.2%. Experts also expect global economic growth to slow this year in the wake of U.S President Donald Trump's tariff policies. They also noted, “trade uncertainty and economic policy uncertainty has reached unprecedented levels.” Dept of Ed. shuns homosexual pride month, celebrates Title IX month To its credit, the U.S. Department of Education is not celebrating homosexual pride month in the month of June. Instead, the Trump administration is recognizing June as “Title IX Month.” Title IX of the Education Amendments was signed into law by President Richard Nixon on June 23, 1972. It prohibits discrimination on the basis of sex in education programs. However, the Biden administration tried to inject transgender protections into the law. Under Trump's Education Department, the administration is promising to protect women's and girls' sports from such transgender activism.  Muslim immigrant used flamethrower on peaceful pro-Israel group in CO An immigrant, motivated by anti-Semitic beliefs, has been accused of brutally attacking a peaceful pro-Israel group advocating for Israeli hostages held captive by the Muslim terrorist group known as Hamas, reports The Blaze. Mohamed Sabry Soliman, a 45-year-old Egyptian national in the United States despite reportedly overstaying his visa, is suspected of attacking a group of individuals participating in a walk in Boulder, Colorado at 2:00pm on June 1st. According to CNN, he allegedly used a makeshift flamethrower and Molotov cocktails to set people on fire at an event in support of hostages in Gaza as he yelled “Free Palestine.” He injured at least 12 people. The victims ranged in age from 52 to 88 years old, including a Holocaust survivor. The U.S. Attorney General's office has charged Soliman with a hate crime. The attack targeted the “Run for Their Lives” group, a grassroots organization that gathered on Pearl Street on Sunday evening to support the release of the hostages captured by the terrorist group in October 2023. According to the FBI, the Jewish group chapter gathers weekly. Maya Bajayo is the organizer of the “Run for Their Lives” group. BAJAYO: “We're here only to raise awareness for the hostages. It makes it even more scary for us that it could have been us.” Amazingly, Bajayo, who has been leading the walk for 83 Sundays straight, refuses to stop walking despite the threat of violence. She explained why to Channel 9 News. BAJAYO: “To show people that we're still here, the problem hasn't been solved, and the hostages need to be released. We're just not going to give up on them.” Oklahoma Governor: "Life begins at conception.” During June, Oklahoma is celebrating  a “Month for Life.” Republican Governor Kevin Stitt signed the proclamation Monday. He wrote on X, “Life begins at conception. We're committed to supporting moms every step. And God has a plan for every life.” The proclamation encouraged citizens to join the Oklahoma March for Life on Saturday, June 7. 10th anniversary of Supreme Court's pro-homosexual marriage ruling The U.S. Supreme Court handed down its Obergefell v. Hodges decision 10 years ago on June 26, 2015. The infamous ruling requires states to recognize same-sex unions as marriages.  A new survey from Gallup found that 68% of U.S. adults support faux same-sex marriage, up from 60% in 2015. However, that support has plateaued over the last five years.  No one shared why they like The Worldview in 5 Minutes And finally, I would love to know why you enjoy listening to The Worldview in 5 Minutes.  Do you like the variety of stories, the reports on the persecuted church, the Christian worldview, the 2 Scriptures, the soundbites, the links to additional information in our transcript, or the occasional uplifting, positive story?  Email me 2-6 sentences and include your name, city, and state.  Surprisingly, I did not get a single email on Tuesday despite the fact that tens of thousands of people listen to the newscast or read the transcript.  Send your email to Adam@TheWorldview.com. 18 listeners gave $4,202 to fund The Worldview newscast Toward this week's $30,875 goal to fund one-fourth of The Worldview newscast budget by this Friday, June 6th, 18 listeners stepped up to the plate.  Our thanks to Joshua in Bolivar, Missouri who gave $30 as well as Rachelle in Longview, Washington, Margaret in White Salmon, Washington, Jeremy in Swansea, Wales in the United Kingdom, and Karena in Eugene, Oregon – each of whom gave $50. Mohammed Soliman, the man accused of using a makeshift flamethrower to attack Jewish individuals in Boulder, Colorado, is due back in court on Thursday. Soliman, who overstayed a tourist visa that expired in 2023, faces state charges, including attempted murder, as well as a federal hate crime charge. House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan (R-OH) joins the Rundown to condemn the attack and explain how the Biden Administration's lax immigration policies have created a climate where acts of violence similar to what we saw on Sunday are more likely. Additionally, Rep. Jordan weighs in on the debate over the "One Big, Beautiful Bill" and addresses questions surrounding former President Joe Biden's decline.   A recent study on fentanyl-related deaths across the United States has shown a 30% decline from 2022 to 2024. Part of the decline can be attributed to experienced community members, nurses, and emergency responders, who are taking action to address the crisis. Attacks on Jewish Community Equate to ‘Hunting' Jews, Congressman Warns

There is a lot of fear among the Jewish community in America following Sunday's attack and the shooting in D.C. in May that left two Israel embassy staff members dead. In both instances, Rep. Randy Fine, R-Fla., who is Jewish, says the suspects went “hunting” for Jewish people to harm.    “I mean, people are afraid because there's not enough security to solve for this problem. And what we've seen is we've seen it tolerated,” Fine said.   Today, Fine says, “we have reached a world where ... the left has told us, ‘globalize the Antifada,' [and] their soldiers are listening.” Still, the congressman says he has hope because the policy steps taken in Florida have been effective.    “When you show that you're not afraid, when you call evil for what it is, when you don't back down, they back off,” he said.    Mohamed Soliman, the lead suspect in attack, used a makeshift flamethrower and incendiary device as he shouted, “Free Palestine,” and attacked the group of people marching in support of freeing the Israeli hostages. Soliman, an Egyptian national who was in the country illegally, is now in custody and has been charged with a federal hate crime.   The morning after the attack, Reps. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., and Rashida Tlaib, D-Mich., both openly Muslim, had yet to issue statements.    Fine was critical of the silence from the two Muslim congresswomen following the attack that left eight people injured in Boulder, Colorado.    “They're Muslim terrorists,” he said when asked what he made of their lack of a public statement as of Monday morning.    “I put it to people this way,” Fine continued, “the people who are sitting, running Hamas in Qatar, they're not blowing anything up, but they support terrorism. If you support Muslim terrorism, you're a Muslim terrorist, and I believe that they both do. You can see it in the silence. I think it is a disgrace that they are Americans, let alone in Congress. And I believe that the way you fight for good is to call out evil.”    Tlaib did respond to the attack on Monday afternoon following The Daily Signal's conversation with Fine.   "The violent attack in Boulder is horrific,” Tlaib wrote on X. “My heart goes out to all of the victims and their families. Violence has no place in our communities.”    Twenty-four hours after the attack, Omar had yet to issue a statement on the incident. Neither Tlaib or Omar answered The Daily Signal's request for comment in response to Fine's claim that the congresswoman are “Muslim terrorists.”    Fine sits down with The Daily Signal to discuss. In a tragic event, a peaceful pro-Israel rally in Boulder, Colorado, was violently disrupted when Mohamed Sabry Soliman, a 45-year-old Egyptian national, attacked participants with a makeshift flamethrower and Molotov cocktails, injuring 12 individuals, including a Holocaust survivor. Soliman, who had planned the attack for over a year, expressed anti-Zionist motives and is facing multiple charges, including attempted murder and federal hate crimes. The FBI is treating the incident as a targeted act of terrorism fueled by antisemitism. In lighter news, NBA legend Shaquille O'Neal has publicly distanced himself from the "celebrity" label, stating that he prefers to be seen as a regular person rather than being associated with the negative connotations he believes come with celebrity status. //The Wire//2300Z June 2, 2025////PRIORITY////BLUF: MAJOR ESCALATION IN RUSSIA AS UKRAINE STRIKES RUSSIA'S STRATEGIC BOMBER FORCE. MOLOTOV ATTACK OCCURS IN COLORADO.// -----BEGIN TEARLINE------International Events-Russia: At approximately 11:00pm Moscow time Sunday evening, Ukraine conducted a large-scale drone attack on military bases throughout Russia. Approximately 5-8 commercial cargo vehicles parked near critical military bases throughout the nation. Once parked, the drivers of these vehicles opened secret hatches cut into the tops of the cargo containers, from which dozens of Ukrainian drones were deployed in rapid succession. Within moments, these drones struck targets at several Russian military installations, ranging from airfields to supply depots. As of right now, four Russian airbases have been confirmed to be struck during the attacks: Ivanovo, Dyagilevo, Belaya, and Olenya Air Bases were all struck overnight.Various targets at Severomorsk and Severodvinsk Naval Bases appear to also have been struck, however this is unconfirmed at this time. Voskresensk Air Base is also claimed by some sources to have been struck during this attack, but this is also unconfirmed. All total, the initial assessment of battle damage indicates a total loss of 3x Tu-95 BEAR H bombers, with 5x more being damaged. Ukrainka Air Base was also targeted by Ukrainian drones, however this attack failed due to the defenses at this location.Ukraine has claimed credit for the attack, and has openly stated that the United States was made aware of the attack before it took place. The United States has denied these claims.-HomeFront-Colorado: Yesterday afternoon an arson attack took place in Boulder. Local authorities state that an assailant attacked a pro-Israel protest/demonstration in the vicinity of the historic Boulder County Courthouse. The attacker approached the protesters, using improvised incendiary devices to inflict burns on approximately 5x people attending the small demonstration. Concerning casualties, 2x victims were burned severely, and a several others suffered minor burns. The attacker has been identified as Mohammed Soliman, and authorities have claimed he is an illegal immigrant (specifically, a visa overstay) from Egypt.AC: Reports vary on the method of the attack; some sources claim the assailant used some sort of improvised flamethrower device, others state that he used Molotov cocktails in his attack. Either way, video evidence of the attack confirms the assailant was holding two Molotovs in his hands after the attack was conducted. Additionally, Soliman's statements during the fray also indicate he conducted the attack in support of the Palestinian movement. Considering the recent shift in federal agencies' priorities concerning this issue, the fallout of this incident is probably going to be a very big deal in many different ways.Oregon: Yesterday afternoon a mass stabbing attack was reported at the Union Gospel Mission in Salem. 11x people were wounded in the attack, and the assailant was detained at the scene.AC: Very few details have come to light regarding this incident, and the assailant has not been identified yet. However, this facility is a homeless shelter, so at the moment the most likely theory is that the attack is the result of a mental health incident.-----END TEARLINE-----Analyst Comments: From time to time, a new aspect of modern war comes to light that changes the dynamic of the modern battlespace in ways that most of us cannot possibly fathom. This happened over the weekend in Russia. While the drone attack on Russian airfields was not a new tactic by any means, it is expressly for this reason that this attack was special: most nations around the world have been waiting for someone to try this attack vector, and now it's actually happened. While the

In this third episode of our Hard Conversations series, Simon Greer, a Jewish organizer whose uncles fought for Israel in 1967, and Saad Soliman, a social justice consultant whose uncles died fighting for Egypt in that same war, met at a professional gathering between corrections officers and formerly incarcerated individuals. They made a pivotal choice: create connection rather than perpetuate division. Their remarkable friendship, which deepened even during recent Middle East conflicts, demonstrates how curiosity and openness can bridge seemingly insurmountable divides, leading them to travel together to Israel in 2024 - and proving there's no expiration date on healing. Whether it's organizing events for surfers young and old, fundraising for great causes or just inspiring the next generation, Quest has solidified himself a spot in the lineup. His travel exploits with his sometimes cohort Paul Godette under the label Stop Playin With Em, is the classic surfing hero's journey archetype.
