The British Army won a convincing series of victories between 1916 and 1918. But by 1939 the British Army was an entirely different animal. The hard-won knowledge, experience and strategic vision that delivered victory after victory in the closing stages of the First World War had been lost. In the inter-war years there was plenty of talking, but very little focus on who Britain might have to fight, and how.  Richard Dannatt and Robert Lyman's book Victory to Defeat: The British Army 1918-40 (Bloomsbury, 2023) clearly illustrates how the British Army wasn't prepared to fight a first-class European Army in 1939 for the simple reason that as a country Britain hadn't prepared itself to do so. The failure of the army's leadership led directly to its abysmal performance in Norway and France in 1940. Victory to Defeat is a captivating history of the mismanagement of a war-winning army. It is also a stark warning that we neglect to understand who our enemy might be, and how to defeat him, at the peril of our country. The British Army is now to be cut to its smallest size since 1714. Current EU President von der Leyen has accepted the position of NATO head after previously turning this down, Matt believes this could be one of the most consequential moments in the worlds history. A member of the famous civil servants Albrecht family, President von der Leyen has had an incredibly successful career around youth development, a defensive defense department in Germany, and a career built around protecting children against sexual crimes. Having lineage from both Western Europe and Russian descent is important when you're discussing fragmented social groups divided through centuries of lineage wars. What will happen with the EU after her departure? She has an incredible bench of leaders including Florentine Hopmeier that have been building the new future of Europe. In a world where America is an unreliable partner, with foreign policy often driven by corruption, the New Europe built around the framework of the European Union and a European Army would, I believe, incredibly powerful tool of supporting Democratic values in the world in an authentic way. We're at a turning point and the structure of NATO provides a way to support defensive training of cyber individuals, for instance, that can provide a targeted approach to economic development on a one-by-one basis, and bring unity through economics and collaboation to places like Ukraine, the Donbas, and former Soviet Republics. Erasmus for cyber.

For more and more American companies, the bottom line is no longer the main factor driving decision-making. Instead, they're prioritizing radical social engineering and pushing various polarizing political policies—even when those policies cut directly into their profitability. America is rapidly losing influence in the tremendously important Middle East. Germany is quietly building military power. Much of this is happening somewhat furtively, with forces of other European nations that Germany will be able to commandeer. It is building up to something explosive. To conclude, we look at a widely influential essay published on this day in history and the big reason why the danger it warned about never materialized. Irish Neutrality is not for saleThe Russian invasion of Ukraine continues to dominate the news agenda. Lines of tanks and armoured vehicles inexorably move toward Kyiv and other Ukrainian cities. Images of hospitals and family homes bombed and destroyed; of refugees, particularly children, the elderly and disabled, forcibly fleeing has led to a massive outpouring of solidarity. People want to help. Some provide food and clothing for shipping to Ukraine. Others offer to provide shelter for those refugees who make it to our shores. All very worthwhile and commendable. However, some in the political and media establishment in the South have cynically seized on the current crisis to argue for an end to Irish neutrality. Some media commentators have worked themselves up into a militaristic frenzy. They want the Irish government to sign up to a European Army and NATO. Great to Get Out.Now that the pandemic restrictions are eased it is great to get out and about again. Of course the pandemic hasn't gone away so it is still important to take common sense precautions. This last week or so I have been galloping around book gigs in West Tyrone, South Armagh and County Down. The events are good fun. Relaxed discussions about books and writing. A few selected readings from Black Mountain and a chance to meet new friends and to catch up on old ones. Time for Presidential voting rightsAs readers will know citizens outside the southern state, including those in the North are denied the right to vote in elections to select the President of Ireland. This is despite support for this right by the current government. It is in the programme for government. It is also supported by a Constitutional Convention.Lá Fhéile Pádraig Faoi Mhaise Daoibhse.I was delighted to be in Downpatrick this week. A fine historical town forever connected with Saint Patrick. In an interview about two and a half years ago, #French #President Emmanuel #Macron arrogantly claimed that #NATO was brain dead and #Europe was on the edge of the precipice, and he assertively questioned NATO's very future. Besides, he also mentioned his long-time dream of developing a #European #militaryforce corresponding to the same period. This #Europeanmilitary force is, in fact, the hypothetical joint #Franco - #German #Europeanarmy that #France and #Germany announced during the signing of a new " #Treaty on #FrancoGerman #Cooperation and Integration" in Aachen on January 22, 2019. In the meantime, a lot of water has flowed under the bridge since 2019. The intervention, which the #Russian Federation initiated under a special military operation towards #Ukraine and which turned into a full-fledged war in fifteen days, revealed how empty are the words Macron made for NATO two and a half years ago. Elapsed time also proved that Macron's rhetoric about establishing a European Army is only wishful thinking. The war in Ukraine has caused grave concern in the Nordic countries. … Makale Bağlantısı : https://avim.org.tr/en/Analiz/NATO-IS-NOT-BRAIN-DEAD-HOW-CAN-OSCE-AND-NATO-HELP-STOP-THE-WAR-IN-UKRAINE Telegram Kanalı: https://t.me/avimtr Twitter: https://twitter.com/AVIMorgtr Linkedin: https://www.linkedin.com/company/avimorgtr/ VKontakte: https://vk.com/public202374482 Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCcIfEGNM3308QoLbCDJIFuw Dailmotion: https://www.dailymotion.com/dm_0ea263f63bb5aee7d8770d1ec13cfe8b Instgram: https://www.instagram.com/avimorgtr/IntroductionIntroduction YaaY: https://yaay.com.tr/AVIM

We are now at the stage where the case for booster shots every 6 months in perpetuity will be the only way to keep your Immunity Passport activated. They have begun to call this our 'software update' to our human operating systems, and it sounds to me like something straight out of a Tim LaHaye 'Left Behind' novel. Today we bring you stunning COVID whistleblower updates, straight from inside the CDC and the FDA, and we show you how all this is connected with Emmanuel Macron in France who is at this moment calling for France to leave the UN Security Council and start their own European Army. Remember back in the early days of the gain-of-function pandemic when politicians like New York mayor Bill De Blasio would go to Christian churches and try to reassure people that the then-coming COVID vaccine was not the 'mark of the beast'? Now that the vaccine is here and billions of people have received it, they are now calling it a 'software update' for a human operating system. Welcome to Day 563 of 15 Days to Flatten the Curve.

Keynote Speaker: Richard Sakwa, Professor of Russian and European politics at the University of Kent **Part of the special edition of the podcast featuring some of the events at this year's BSIS International Conference: “Nationalism & Populism: The Future of Europe?” This conference focused on the possible challenges and scenarios Europe may be faced with regarding issues of Migration, Security and Defense and (social) media.*** As a start to the conference, the keynote touched upon nationalism and populism, elaborating upon their meanings and to what extent one idea relies on the other and how societies nowadays are experiencing changes that will have a lasting effect. Growing nationalist sentiments and the rise of populist parties in Europe have taken on crucial roles influencing events such as Brexit, the securitisation of migration and the debate over a European Army. Ideas of Nationalism and Populism have roots in the history of humankind, reflected in political upheaval, inequalities within societies and media coverage. It is important to discuss and regard these ideas as shaping factors of the 21st century and moreover the future to come, concerning not just academics and politicians but every individual.

All politicians are engaged in this pernicious game and are equally caught into its vicious web. President Erdogan talks about Turkey's growing hemisphere of influence in the Middle East, North Africa the Western Balkans, and lest we forget in the EU over parts of Cyprus and the immigrant population in Germany. His grandiose plans saw Turkey on the cusp of reviving its Sultanate and becoming the leading light for people lost in the darkness of their local labyrinths. Such people, according to Erdogan's rhetoric, are waiting for the torch of faith, held by the Caliph in Istanbul,to be their beacon for hope. According to recent economic reports, the Turkish economy slowed sharply in Q3 caused by high debt, currency volatility, and inflation. Annual retail sales were flat, industrial production was patchy and the unemployment rate increased significantly in July and August of 2018.  President Rouhani and his puppeteers promised the creation of a Shia Crescent that would shine on the dispossessed masses of this sect from Tehran to Tartus. The Islamic Republic of Iran would bring them pride, a sense of belonging, and salvation into their wretched lives and, their after-lives too. According to the Financial Tribute, an Iranian economic daily, the rise in 2018 of the retail prices of goods that used the government's subsidized foreign currency at a rate of 42,000 rials per US dollar (about three times cheaper than the market rate) was no less than in other consumer goods.  Mohammad Baqer Nobakht, the head of Plan and Budget Organization of Iran, announced that "as much as $14 billion will be spent on subsidizing the imports of essential goods as per the budget bill of next year[2019]".  [President] Nassrallah of Lebanon has offered his community -and as a collateral effect – to all the Lebanese, the gifts of repelling terrorists on the Northern border, intimidating Israel on the Southern border, freeing Yemen from the yoke of the Saudis, and lend a helping hand to the Iraqis in  their war on terror. As per actual reports activity in the economy remained sluggish in 2018, against a backdrop of prolonged political deadlock. The real estate sector—a cornerstone of the economy—seems to have performed poorly in the period, with cement deliveries contracting year-on-year and construction permits dropping significantly, while the merchandise trade balance widened despite robust export growth. According to the World Bank, such difficult economic conditions in the medium term are likely to adversely impact poverty rates.  Even President Macron promised a “European economic government”, a "European Army" in the face of Russia, China and ...the US (?), total adherence to the Paris Climate Agreement, continued cooperation with Iran despite the US exit from the Nuclear Deal, and all that rich international agenda coupled with higher taxes on fuel for all motorists to enjoy. The latest protests in Paris by the angry Yellow Vests have caused economic havoc. According to the FT food retailers are expected to take a hit of about 1 per cent this quarter, with hypermarkets down4 to 5 per cent. And, this week, the French central bank slashed its forecast for economic growth for the fourth quarter from 0.4 per cent to 0.2 per cent.   Atthe far opposite of this spectrum, President Trump promised to ‘Make America Great Again!” but through economic nationalism (not nationalization). He scrapped the Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement because he judged it not in US consumers' interests, re-negotiated the NAFTA deal to redress inequities that put US products and services at a disadvantage, is waging a tariff war on China, which has caused many US factories to de-localize  to catch up with cheaper labor and a manipulated Chinese currency; and has threatened the EU with severe consequences if the imbalances in trade -especially with Germany- are not tackled. He told NATO and the US' Asian and Arab allies (not protectorates) that they should sh...

On today's episode of Loud & Clear, Brian Becker and John Kiriakou are joined by Peter Kuznick, a professor of history and director of the Nuclear Studies Institute at American University and the co-author with Oliver Stone of the book and TV show “The Untold History of the United States,” and Alexander Mercouris, the editor-in-chief of The Duran.President Trump went to Paris over the weekend to attend a commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the end of the first World War. By the time he left France on Monday, he was being scorned from several quarters. As U.S. relations with its European allies have dramatically shifted during the past two years, French President Emmanuel Macron and other European leaders have introduced the idea of the creation of a “European Army.” Tuesday’s weekly series is False Profits—A Weekly Look at Wall Street and Corporate Capitalism with Daniel Sankey. Financial policy analyst Daniel Sankey joins the show. Midterm elections were held a week ago today, but more than a dozen races are yet to be decided. The most inflammatory fight is in the Florida Senate race, where Governor Rick Scott, who is leading by only 12,500 votes out of more than eight million cast, accused incumbent Democratic Senator Bill Nelson of voter fraud for asking for a recount. Scott is going with a scorched earth strategy to secure the seat, while in Arizona, Republican Senate candidate Martha McSally gracefully conceded to Democrat Kyrsten Sinema after falling behind by 38,000 votes out of more than two million cast. Brian and John speak with Dave Lindorff, an investigative reporter and founder of This Can’t Be Happening!, as well as a columnist for CounterPunch, and a contributor to the London Review of Books, The Nation, Extra! Tarbell, and Salon.com. Special Counsel Robert Mueller could issue new indictments in the so-called Russian investigation as early as today. Jerome Corsi, a figure on the right-wing fringe, told his followers in a YouTube video that he expects to be indicted on perjury charges today. Meanwhile, the media is speculating that several people close to President Trump and other friends of Republican consultant Roger Stone also could be indicted. Daniel Lazare, a journalist and author of three books—“The Frozen Republic,” “The Velvet Coup,” and “America's Undeclared War,” joins the show. Wildfires in northern and southern California continued to spread over the holiday weekend, resulting in 44 deaths and becoming the deadliest and most destructive wildfires in the state’s history. More than 200 people are still missing. Meanwhile, President Trump tweeted that the fires are so severe only because of mismanagement by state fire prevention officials. That tweet was roundly condemned on both sides of the political aisle. Fred Magdoff, professor emeritus of plant and soil science at the University of Vermont and the co-author of “What Every Environmentalist Needs to Know About Capitalism” and “Creating an Ecological Society: Toward a Revolutionary Transformation” from Monthly Review Press, joins Brian and John. A botched Israeli commando raid into Gaza late last night brought Israel and the Palestinians to the brink of war before Egyptian mediators convinced both sides to step back from the brink. Israeli forces killed seven Palestinians last night, an action which led to the largest-scale rocket fire into Israel since 2004. An Israeli officer was also killed. Daoud Kuttab, an award-winning Palestinian journalist, joins the show.Last week, John sat in Athens with former Greek Finance Minister Yanis Varoufakis and renowned UBS whistleblower Brad Birkenfeld. They recorded their conversation about whistleblowing in the financial and banking sectors and about Varoufakis’s experience standing up to the Troika of the World Bank, the International Monetary Fund, and the European Central Bank, which was then in control of the Greek economy. Additionally, Varoufakis discussed his plans with Senator Bernie Sanders and other international progressive leaders to found a new international progressive movement.
