In this bonus episode, Dani sits down with Dr. Shannon Ritchey, Doctor of Physical Therapy and founder of Evlo, for one of the most helpful, myth-busting conversations we've ever had about fitness, strength training, pregnancy, and women's health. Shannon breaks down why so many of us feel confused about exercise, what actually matters when you're short on time, and why “gentle consistency” might be the secret to finally seeing results without burning out. She shares her own story of overtraining, chronic pain, and rebuilding her approach from the ground up and why so many women are unknowingly doing too much instead of training with intention. They go deep on postpartum fitness, strength training during pregnancy, weighted vests, Pilates vs. lifting, GLP-1 medications, body recomposition, protein, recovery, and what women really need to know if they want to build muscle and feel stronger at every stage of life. Do you open 10 tabs and forget what you were doing? You're not alone. Our brains have been conditioned to crave distraction—thanks to tech, stress, and overstimulation. Focus isn't just about productivity—it's about presence, creativity, and living a life that feels like yours. In this episode, I explain how chronic stress and dopamine addiction are training your brain to self-interrupt, making it harder than ever to stay on task. Drawing on insights from researchers like Dr. Gloria Mark, I break down how habits like doomscrolling and multitasking are literally rewiring our prefrontal cortexes. But it's not all doom and distraction. I share powerful, research-based strategies to rebuild your focus muscle—from daily breathing hacks and body doubling to my personal “rule of three” method and compassionate productivity practices. You'll also hear how I use unstructured rest, deliberate boredom, and digital boundaries to reconnect with what matters most. If you've ever felt like your brain is broken, this episode will help you reconnect with the calm, focused version of you that still exists—just beneath the noise. We get into: Why focus is the hidden key to creating a meaningful, joyful life. How stress hijacks your brain and kills concentration. Science-backed focus hacks that actually work—no guilt, just relief. Daily habits to rewire your brain away from distraction and back to clarity. Why social media mimics slot machines—and how to break free. In this episode we flash back to  my conversation with Dr. Shannon Ritchie, physical therapist, fitness instructor, and owner of the online fitness platform, Evlo. founder of Evlo which has fitness classes and science-based workouts.   After years of studying biomechanics, muscle function, and neurology and seeing so many people in pain including herself, Shannon wanted a better way of workout that drives real results for people. She found a formula that helps her to not only feel stronger than ever, but to do it pain-free. This formula is simple: choose exercises and a structured plan that have the best band-for-your-buck, but that stresses joints the least. As a chronic worker-outer, often overdoing it, I could relate to Shannon's own story  and felt inspired to take a rest day.   During the episode we chat about why going hard or doing the most isn't always the right way to achieve results, why the fitness industry can be misleading, following the good feeling, tips for building strategic workout routines (beginners and advanced), some of Shannon's favorite nutrition recommendations and her own workout, and life in general!   Evlo Follow Shannon Follow Evlo Follow me on Instagram

Physical therapists have extensive training and knowledge of anatomy, helping you to prevent and/or recover from injuries. The general personal training space is not nearly as regulated and personal trainers might not have that same knowledge. When you build muscle mass, you're actively combatting the natural muscle loss that comes with aging. Not only will your physique improve, but you'll also decrease your likelihood of falls as you get older, decrease loss of bone density, and increase the calories you burn in a day without tons of cardio. If you're just starting out with strength training and feel a little bit intimidated, start super small. Look for simple exercises that focus on one muscle group at a time (rather than compound movements), and start with body weight or 5 lb. dumbbells 1-3 times per week. Hi! We cannot co-regulate our kids if we aren't regulated ourselves. And most of us (I'm raising both of my hands here) need to make extra effort to activate our parasympathetic nervous system because our sympathetic nervous systems can go into overdrive so quickly as parents to neurodivergent kids. Chronic dysregulation and chronic sympathetic nervous system activation is definitely a THING, our kids can experience, and we can too. And when we're chronically dysregulated, literally everything in our day just becomes harder, less efficient, and we become crankier, more burnt out, and less able to access the best parenting skills. I put off creating an exercise routine for a long time because I  just wasn't the most active person and it didn't motivate me- which I'll share in the podcast, but trust me when I say- it's true!
