This week, we take a fantastic voyage inside Martin Short, as Dante's In Fer November continues with 1987's Innerspace, directed by Joe Dante and starring Dennis Quaid, Martin Short, Meg Ryan, Kevin McCarthy, Fiona Lewis, Robert Picardo, Wendy Schaal, Henry Gibson and Dick Miller. It's a delightfully silly adventure movie that neither host had seen, as J Mo nabbed it on Blu-ray earlier this year based largely on the novelty of Short having a leading role in a big, broad action movie. And to be clear, he is outrageously good in this -- an odd glimpse into the leading man career he could have had that never really materialized for him. Plus: Hayley's mom is hooked on Tubi, and Justin takes a field trip to The Marvels as we try to assess the MCU's future, Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards, and how Disney has flattened their own theatrical revenues across the board. Other works discussed on this episode include Loki, Avengers: Endgame, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Captain Marvel, Oppenheimer, Bottoms, The Worst Person In The World, Past Lives, After Sun, Meet Dave, Mission: Impossible, and Clifford among others. Joe Dante Month wraps up next week with the Christmas horror comedy classic Gremlins, with Zach Galligan and Phoebe Cates. If you'd like to watch the movie before next week's show, Gremlins is currently streaming in Canada on Crave, Starz and Hollywood Suite. See you then!

We're back to the fascinating world of stuntmen and daredevils this time in the cave. We are looking at two films from director Mark L. Lester which he made very early in his prolific career. We start off with "Steel Arena" from 1973 which stars several real-life daredevils as they tour the backroads of America, performing their insane stunts at county fairs. We learn all about the struggles and dangers within the troupe and are treated to a few truly memorable moments. This is a very unique film that is entertaining from the first frame until the very disconcerting ending. Highly recommended! We follow this with 1977's "Stunts" which has a bonafide star-studded cast, including Robert Forster, Fiona Lewis, Joanna Cassidy, and Richard Lynch along with several other familiar faces. This is much more of a "movie" with a plot that revolves around a series of on-set murders that all target the stunt performers. It's got a few amazing moments in it, but it falls a little flatter than the other film. We then proceed to list the various things we've been watching for fun. Please let us know what you thought of the show, and send us some suggestions for future episodes. In this episode Mark talks about one of his favourite films: the 1987 science fiction comedy film "Innerspace" directed by Joe Dante. Produced by Steven Spielberg, the film revolves around a down on his luck navy pilot, Lt. Tuck Pendleton (played by Dennis Quaid), who resigns his commission to volunteer for a secret miniturization experiment that would entail him to be the pilot of a shrunken submersible pod and then be injected into a rabbit using a syringe. However, after Lt. Pendleton is successfully miniturized, the miniturization laboratory is attacked by a rival organisation who wish to steal the miniturization technology - which spurs one of the lead scientists of the project, Dr. Ozzie Wexler (played by John Hora), to flee the lab with the syringe containing the pod being piloted by Lt. Pendleton and, though they are mortally wounded, Dr. Wexler is successful in injecting Lt. Pendleton into an unsuspecting passers-by, hypochondriac Subway clerk Jack Putter (played by Martin Short). The film follows Jack Putter as he attempts to assist Tuck Pendleton in returning him to his original size before his air-supply runs out - and along the way they are both assisted in their efforts by Tuck's on-again/off-again girlfriend, Lydia Maxwell (played by Meg Ryan), as they are continuously pursued by the members of the rival miniturization project. The film also stars Robert Picardo, Kevin McCarthy, Fiona Lewis, Vernon Wells, Henry Gibson, Wendy Schaal, William Schallert, and Dick Miller. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/markthepoet/message

Her childhood was a whirlwind of famous faces: John Huston, Peter O'Toole, Lauren Bacall, Federico Fellini, Angelica Huston, and many more; ever-changing home addresses: London, Paris, Cannes, Los Angeles; and the unspoken lesson that appearances mattered more than reality. When Joan became the first and only American woman ever to fill the coveted position of Editor-in-Chief of Paris Vogue, she quickly became a force in the cult of fashion and beauty. Joan's world was the land of illusion. But illusions cannot be sustained indefinitely, and they always come at a cost. In her new book THE PRICE OF ILLUSION Joan offers up a dazzling compulsively readable memoir spanning six decades spent in the creative heart of London, New York, Los Angeles, Milan, Paris, and more. But what is the price of illusion? Tune in to find out.Model, actress, writer and raconteur, Fiona Lewis has led the life of which dreams are made. But then, just when life seemed to be singing along just famously, Fiona Lewis woke up one morning, asking herself that proverbial question songstress Peggy Lee once asked: “Is that all there is?” And then she met a French chateau, and answers to her own questions came, chronicled in her new memoir MISTAKES WERE MADE (some in French).Hollywood, the 60s, fashion, fame, Vogue, Paris, illusion, memoir and strong women on The Halli Casser-Jayne Hour. But then, just when life seemed to be singing along just famously, Fiona Lewis woke up one morning, asking herself that proverbial question songstress Peggy Lee once asked: “Is that all there is?” And then she met a French chateau, and answers to her own questions came, chronicled in her new memoir MISTAKES WERE MADE (some in French). Before his brother Frank wrote ANGELA'S ASHES, Malachy was the famous McCourt. Malachy was a bon vivant actor, talk show host, saloon owner -- he practically invented the singles bar, was a pioneer in talk radio, a soap opera star, a best-selling author, a gold smuggler, and he was once a candidate for governor of the state of New York. Known as a professional Irishman, he was a regular on the Tonight Show. Now he is the last of Angela's children, the others long dead and gone. That, and given that he is Irish, make Frank's younger brother a bit of an expert on death, death the subject of his latest book, DEATH NEED NOT BE FATAL. But not to worry, no grim reaper here, DEATH NEED NOT BE FATAL is a hilarious, eye-opening, heretical, smart and sassy look at all things death and dying as only an Irishman could write that will take you from laughter to tears, brotherhood, poverty, history, the famous -- Bill Clinton, John Wayne, Kirk Douglas, Merv Griffin are just a few names that crop up in this oh, so honest new memoir.Memoir, Hollywood, film, Angela's Ashes, romance, wisdom, death and dying, humor, politics, living life to the fullest, we have it all on The Halli Casser-Jayne Show at Halli Casser-Jayne dot com.

Today's guest, Fiona Lewis, has just released a most charming memoir, Mistake Were Made (Some in French). Although she's had a glamorous life as a model, actress and writer who has traveled the world, all women will identify with the personal conundrums she lays bare. And men will be intrigued. Struggling to find her identity, she is unconsciously drawn back to the South of France, the site of her happiest childhood memories, a respite from the clouds of her native England. Having then lived an enviable life in California, Fiona wakes up one day in her fifties and asks herself, Is this it? Is this the existence I'm meant to have? Her life has been full of adventure and privilege, but now, she feels lost. Realizing she has to find a way to reinvent herself, she impulsively-and against her husband's wishes, buys a rundown chateau in the South of France. Alone, and in the interminable process of restoring the chateau, she contemplates her life and has epiphanies about love and herself.
