EPISODE 7 - A Regular Guy - “You'd Be Surprised What A Pair Of Glasses Will Do”Greetings Super friends! Welcome to Superman & Lois & Pals. I'm Henry Bernstein and alongside me is my favorite super pal, Professor Sam Brody. Let's talk about Superman & Lois Season 4, Episode 7 - A Regular GuyDirected by:Gregory SmithWritten By:Katie AldrinGeorge KitsonThe Apple TV and Imdb description is: After some concerning interactions in town, Clark is determined to protect the secret that he's Superman - a task complicated by Jonathan and Jordan; Lois considers the future of the Gazette after Chrissy proposes something drastic.HENRY'S NOTES:FLASHBACK TO FIRST APPEARANCE ACTION #1!!!2 Shirt rips!I am here once again, saying that I don't care about Kyle and Christy and this a waste of screentime. This is weird watching Clark pretend to be hurt. I don't like it. It's awkward.Jimmy! And his sister? I like that Jimmy asked to be “pals” of course. And great reference to the “Daily Star.” But he called him “CK”Haha, “Timmy.” Where did this guy come from? Is he from last season?“You've ruined my life kent” - really? I thought he gets to be QB because Jon isn't doing it. I dunno, why is selling her share of the Gazette so dramatic. Seems pretty practical to me. Haha Clark actually bunted. This show has everything. Clark Kent playing baseball with Jimmy Olson. It's all I ever wanted and I'm so sad it's over. Timmy Ryan is the dumbest name“Candice knows” - “YOU TOLD YOUR GIRLFRIEND!” lol“Cut your dad some slack”“We need the bunt king” - What do we think of this Jimmy? So Jimmy figured out the secret. Ok fine. So what do we think about in this universe Clark is just either very bad at keeping the secret OR everyone is not dumbNice of Clark and Lois to buy Chrissy out and IDC“Did I get knocked up by the town bully?”Nice of Kyle to raise a toast to the Kents etc but he didn't actually apologize to ClarkI like the mirroring of the last time Candice's dad got fucked up in the diner by Clark.Very interesting way for Superman to reveal himself to the world. I don't know how I feel about it“When Emmet fired the bullet it made me think maybe this is doing more harm than good. …It has to be a family decision.”“You've fought aliens and stopped world's from merging” - Crisis?“I'm just a regular guy”The Daily Planet won the “Metro Cup” and “Last one at Bibbowski's picks up the tab”Jimmy: “I missed you too pal”This was a very well done episode with a plot that I don't like Follow us on twitter at https://x.com/SupermanPalsPod!Check out a video version of this episode at https://www.youtube.com/@gonzo3249! It seems strange at first that the producers of the Superman movies would move on to an epic about Santa Claus. But in a way it makes sense. Both Superman and Santa are legendary superheroes, able to cure our pains through magical intervention. Both of them can fly through the air. Both have large supporting casts: Superman has Lois Lane, Jimmy Olson and Perry White, while Santa has Mrs. Claus, the elves and, of course, Dasher, Donner and Blitzen. This 80's Flick brought us the origin story we never knew we wanted and children of the 80's (and early 90's for that matter) saw the Jolly Old Elf come to life on the big screen for the very first time. So sit down with a warm up of cocoa by the fireplace under the glow of the Christmas trees lights as Tim Williams and guest co-host Laramy Wells from "Moving Panels" Podcast discuss “Santa Claus: The Movie” from 1985 on this episode of the 80's Flick Flashback Podcast! Here are some additional behind the scenes trivia we were unable to cover in this episode: In a 2019 interview John Lithgow said, "It's just one of the tackiest movies I've ever been in. It seemed cheesy and it certainly never stuck ... except in England. It is huge over there. I wish I had a nickel for every Englishman who's told me [it's their favorite film]. In England, that's half of what I'm known for." Synopsis On today's date in 1947, a new opera entitled “The Mother of Us All” debuted at Columbia University in New York City. The libretto was by the American poet Gertrude Stein, and dealt with the life and times of Susan B. Anthony, a 19th century champion of women's rights. In Stein's dream-like account, iconic figures from America's past like President John Adams, orator Daniel Webster, and entertainer Lillian Russell interact even though they lived at different times in history. Two of the opera's 27 characters, playwright Constance Fletcher and Yale librarian Donald Gallup, in fact, were contemporary friends of Stein's. The music was by the American composer Virgil Thomson, whose score evoked seemingly familiar 19th century hymns, sentimental ballads, circus band music, drum rolls, and fanfares. The tunes were, in fact, all original creations. The mix of Thomson's music and Stein's text results in a rambunctious opera about American life and politics, at turns both amusing and strangely touching. It became an unlikely success. Thomson wrote two other operas: “Four Saints in Three Acts,” from 1933, was an earlier collaboration with Gertrude Stein, and “Lord Byron,” from 1972, sets a witty libretto by Jack Larson, an actor famous for his portrayal of Daily Planet cub reporter Jimmy Olson on the old “Superman” TV series. “Lord Byron” was intended for the Metropolitan Opera in New York, but never made it there, and performances these days are rare. This week we're continuing our "subversive superhero series" and reading Matt Fraction's 2020 reboot of "Superman's Pal Jimmy Olson," illustrated by Steve Lieber. Fraction's an Eisner award winning writer is known his unique, sometimes edgier, realistic take on books like Hawkeye, Iron Man, Iron Fist, and Sex Criminals. Sure, Jimmy Olson is an ace photographer, turned content creator. He's a bow-tied bon vivant and adventurer. But as the book asks, why does Jimmy get to be Superman's best friend? In a book that embraces it's own madcap weirdness, Jimmy wanders the weird corners of the DC universe to solve the mystery of his own murder with some zany characters old and new...marrying an interdimensional jewel thief, being tormented by blood vomiting cat, hanging with Metamorpho, decoding his crazy criminal conspiracy with Lois Lane, starting a prank war with Batman, and of course avoiding his best friend Superman. The narrations alone made this book an oddly fun read. But was that enough weirdness, or did the attempt at a plot get in the way?
The world of Superheroes is made so much stronger by the supporting cast they host, and the world of Superman is no different. Appearing in literally thousands of stories across comic books, radio, TV, and film, Superman has been one of the most dominant pop culture properties since his creation in 1938. And yet, despite the iconic nature of the character, it’s hard to imagine what a Superman story would be without the people at the Daily Planet or without the villains that threaten the values of truth and justice that Superman defends and holds dear. The panel will examine some key characters from the Superman mythos: Lois Lane, Lex Luthor, Jimmy Olson, and the Kents and decide, who is most important to the world of Superman.
What's more American than Apple Pie and Baseball? Up in the sky - it's a bird, it's a plane...it's Superman RED SON, which reimagines the Man of Steel had he been raised in Mother Russia. Sign me up Komrade! We continue our subversive superhero series ...with Superman REDSON, the 2003 miniseries that reimagined the Man of Steel had he been raised in Mother Russia Written by Mark Millar with the artist team of Dave Johnson, Andrew Robinson, Walden Wong, Killian Plunkett, and colorist Paul Mounts - RED SON, has the last son of Krypton's rocket ship landing on a Ukrainian collective farm. the book starts decades later in 1953 - at the beginning of the Cold War, with the Soviets revealing Superman to the world as "the Champion of the common worker who fights a never-ending battle for Stalin, socialism, and the international expansion of the Warsaw Pact." The book's premise actually was actually imagined during writer Mark Millar's childhood. Millar is a Scottish comics superstar known for later creating many popular comics that were eventuat adapted to film like Wanted, Kingsman, Kick-Ass, and even Captain America: Civil War, and even Red Son, which was released as a DC Animated feature in 2020. Red Son's alternate reality also features lots of familiar faces: from Lois Lane to Bruce Wayne, from John Kennedy to Joseph Stalin, from Pytotr Roslov to Jimmy Olson, CIA operative. And as you can imagine with a figure as powerful of Superman now at the center of the Cold War, a very different world history unfolds.

He thinks he sees a Sun Eater and he’s correct but gets ambushed by Mongul. Mongul traps Clark in a glass case of emotion so its up to the Legion of Super-Heroes to figure it all out. Cosmic Boy shows up wearing his black Emma Frost corset costume and all is right in the world.Continue the conversation with Shawn and Jen on Twitter @angryheroshawn and @JenStansfield and email the show at worstcollectionever@gmail.com

Superman’s Pal, Jimmy Olsen #1 (1954) / Superman’s Pal, Jimmy Olsen #2 (1954)Jimmy Olson, Superman’s dumbest Earth friend (I don’t know - he might have a Kryptonian equivalent), continues to ruin Superman and Clark Kent’s lives. In the first story, Jimmy handles a to-do list for Superman while he’s out saving folks in Switzerland. Instead of, you know, getting pets out of trees, Jimmy opts to mediate a labor dispute using shadow puppets and cheap wigs.In the second story, Jimmy bodies an interplanetary potion and dreams that he can fly. He uses these powers to join the circus only to tragically drown in front of thousands. RIP Jimmy Olsen. We also share our thoughts on all the movie trailer action from DC Fandome, which is a dome made of the skin of DC fans.Continue the conversation with Shawn and Jen on Twitter @angryheroshawn and @JenStansfield and email the show at worstcollectionever@gmail.com
One of the most popular, and most iconic series from the early days of television was "The Adventures of Superman," which ran from 1952 to 1958. George Reeves was Superman / Clark Kent. Jack Larson played young photographer Jimmy Olson, and Noel Neill was reporter Lois Lane. But, like so many TV stars, Neill saw her career take a new and unexpected path, and not necessarily the path she had planned.

If younger selves are left out of timeline too long, people will forget about them, and… They really shouldn't interact with younger selves because of paradox Rip says this about Stein wanting to hold his baby-self, but Stein talked to Stein in the 1970s What are the rules? Amnesia pills are optional Palmer's injuries Rip Hunter His plan actually works! His real name is Michael; he was taken by Time Masters when he was an orphan on the streets trying to survive Offers self to Pilgrim. Without him, there is no team. Stein tries to remind all about how dangerous it is to remove a Time Master from the timeline, something Rip told him at the start of show Rate The Captain on a scale of 1 (Captain Crunch) to 10 (Captain Picard) Vandal Savage Not in episode! Mentioned at end because they remember their mission The Atom - Ray Palmer “Come with me if you want to live” - has always wanted to say that Existential crisis - “Could I be dead and not know it?” 2007 self gets beat up, bruises show up on present Ray Asks Kendra to marry him. On Arrow, Anna was an attorney who worked for Oliver Queen's mother, but in the comics, Jean Loring was Ray Palmer's wife prior to her killing another superhero's wife) Disappearing from History: The visual effects used to represent the man executed by the Time Masters at the start of the episode are the same ones used in last year's finale for The Flash, when Eddie Thawne committed suicide in order to kill his descendant, Eobard/The Reverse Flash “Come with me if you want to live”: Line is from The Terminator. Booster Gold once made a similar remark during his time-travel adventures written by Legends executive producers Geoff Johns Marty McFly: Younger Rory is wearing a red vest/jean jacket outfit reminiscent of Marty McFly's Back to the Future outfit. Arrow bits: “If he ever lost me…” young Sara says of her father. Date of Ray's attack is December 19, 2014, and Arrow was on hiatus at that time Fruit Brute: Fruit Brute is one of the “monster” cereals like Count Chocula and Frankenberry. The fact that Rip has a collection of vintage cereals makes total sense because in the Booster Gold comics, we were told once that Rip has a fridge full of vintage Coca Cola Ma Hunkel: Ma Hunkel's Red Tornado is seen in Rip's time lab Rip Hunter's Mother: In the comics, we never learn the name of Rip's mother, so as to not lock his father, Booster Gold, into a future relationship Michael?: Rip Hunter's father in the comics is Michael Jon Carter, aka Booster Gold, so the name “Michael” might be a nod to his comic book parentage. Writer and radio broadcaster Steve Darnall joins us to talk about his past works in comics. Steve worked in the fringe genres as the comics market struggled to survive after the speculation era went bust. You'll hear about his collaboration with Alex Ross on the 2 part UNCLE SAM prestige series , to his parody of classic romance comics for Slave Labor Graphics and his own companmy Funny Valentine. We also talk about Steve's current job hosting 2 radio shows which present classic Old Time Radio programs Those Were The Days and Yesterday USA, where he puts a historical context while presenting dramas comedies and documentaries made from the 1930s-1950s. As opposed to a nostalgic "Remember When" angle that older hosts use for a geritatric audience, Steve's show is one of discovery for a younger generation who come to these programs with a fresh perspective. Then we talk about the radio superheroes some of which predate the 1938 debut of Superman. Darnall talks about the origins of The Lone Ranger and Green Hornet, created by Detroit radio station WXYZ owner Geoge W Trendle and writer Fran Striker. We also look at the 1940 Superman radio serial. You'll learn how many of the common phrases and plot points of the comics originated on radio like Jimmy Olson, kryptonite, and the infamous lines from Metropolis citizens "Look, up in the sky ..." .
