Figuring out how to prepare for a Fresh Start can feel so overwhelming, but you're not alone! Check out these 5 Fresh Tips to help you prepare for a Fresh Start with therapist and coach, Laura Fink. You can learn more about Laura Fink on her Fresh Starts Profile.Stop fantasizing, start clarifying. It's easy to focus only on the emotional pain or the imagined freedom. But clarity lives in the middle space. Start writing down what you need: boundaries, living arrangements, emotional safety, financial stability. Focus on facts, not fears.Protect your nervous system. Separation is not just a legal or logistical shift—it's a trauma to the body. Prioritize sleep, reduce overstimulation, and try grounding tools (like breath-work, walking, or cold water on your wrists) to regulate your emotions before reacting.Choose your core three. Pick 3 people (friends, therapist, coach, family) who you can fully trust and will help you stay clear, calm, and connected. Avoid oversharing with people who stir drama, confusion, or judgment.Get your financial footing early. Even before any legal steps, get clear on your financial picture: income, expenses, assets, accounts, and legal rights. Talk to a financial advisor before you feel desperate. Financial clarity is emotional power.Define your post-separation self. Don't wait for the dust to settle to reclaim your identity. Start asking: Who am I becoming? What do I want my mornings, weekends, or home to feel like? Visualize that version of you, even while you're still navigating the mess.

Preparing yourself and your home to sell can be overwhelming, but you're not alone! Check out these 5 Fresh Tips to help you prepare yourself and your home for sale with Real Estate Agent and The Breakup Broker, Amy Slate. You can learn more about Amy Slate on her Fresh Starts Profile.5 Fresh Tips to help you prep yourself and your home for selling:Assemble Your Support Team: surround yourself with professionals who have experience in divorce-related real estate transactions, including a knowledgeable real estate agent, attorney, and possibly a financial planner.Emotionally Detach from the Home: acknowledge the memories, but start shifting your mindset to seeing the house as a financial asset rather than your past. This will help you make practical decisions.Declutter and Depersonalize: remove excess belongings and personal items like family photos to create a neutral space where buyers can envision themselves. If you're overwhelmed, tackle one room at a time.Consider the Timing of Your Sale: if possible, align your home sale with your personal timeline—whether that means waiting for a stronger market or selling quickly to move forward. Your real estate agent can help strategize the best timing based on local trends.Communicate Openly with Your Agent: be upfront about any divorce-related challenges that could impact the sale. A knowledgeable agent can help navigate potential roadblocks and act as a neutral third party if needed.Make sure to check out Fresh Starts Registry: the first and only divorce registry and resource platform, and the fastest growing network of divorce professionals: https://www.freshstartsregistry.com/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/freshstartsregistry/Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/FreshStartsRegistry

This is my last episode of 2024. I'm a huge fan of evaluating what went right and what didn't – and what changes you want to make for 2025. The point I want to make, loud and clear, is that change doesn't have to be massive. Incremental change can be highly effective – and more achievable. I've used this framework on the podcast before, but it's still great so I'm using it again. I first learned it from my first coach, Denise Hedges. She recently made reference to this 4-step change model in a recent newsletter, which reminded me that I wanted to do this exercise during my planning retreat for next quarter. Here it goes: STOP … START … CONTINUE … CHANGE. What do you need to STOP doing? Maybe it's something you can delegate. Maybe no one needs to do it anymore. What do you need to START doing? What is a habit, practice, or activity you want to begin to do? Perhaps you want to commit to a walking program or go back to school for an advanced degree. It could be something simple like intentionally greeting everyone you see on your way into the office every morning. What do you need to CONTINUE doing? Make sure that, in your efforts to make some changes, you don't throw the good out. Keep engaging in the activities and behaviors that have worked for you this year. And what do you need to CHANGE about how you're operating? Maybe it is an activity you must do every day, every week, or every month…and you hate it. Is it possible that changing HOW you do the thing could make it less unbearable…or even enjoyable? OR is there a way you could do something more efficiently? As Denise goes on to say, “Most people go at the change process piecemeal, addressing one or two things at a time in isolation vs. looking systematically at everything that's susceptible to improvement. “And that's not where the gold is. Especially since the things that likely garner most of your attention are problems … things that need fixing … vs. opportunities and enhancements you may be overlooking.” “Stop, start, and change are about doing things differently. It's easy to focus on what needs to be fixed. “Continue” is just as important. Make sure to give yourself credit and acknowledge what's working. Recognize and appreciate what's made you successful and valued by those you serve. Don't concentrate solely on how you can do better. “You're undoubtedly doing a lot of “right” things and doing a lot of things well.” STOP … START … CONTINUE … CHANGE. Ask yourself these four simple questions and journal your answers. Then come up with a plan to achieve each. As I wrap up the podcast for 2024, here are mine for you: STOP trying to make other people happy at your own expense. You can't control other people's thoughts or feelings, so focus on your own happiness. START questioning your beliefs. A belief is a thought you keep thinking…and many of us choose to think thoughts that don't serve us. Even if the belief is true: Does it benefit you to think it? CONTINUE self-improvement. Never stop learning, growing, and evolving. The opposite of this isn't stagnation, because if you aren't moving forward, you're moving backward. CHANGE an activity or habit that no longer services you. Bored with your workouts? Take up pickleball. Change the way you go to work every day…or the first five things you do when you get there. Commit to changing your relationship with your boss or a co-worker. You are brilliant! I know this because you are choosing to listen to my podcast instead of something that doesn't help you grow. I wish you for the happiest of holidays and a wonderful start to 2025. I'll be here with you every step of the way! Are you in the wrong job that chips away at you every day? At the Colson Center, we believe the Church is God's gift to the world, called to be present and active in this cultural moment without being taken captive by it. In other words, the Church is meant to “move the world,” not move with the world. Episode 297 Are you planning a vacation and want to stay alcohol-free but feeling unsure if you can manage it? I've been there too. When I stopped drinking, I struggled with the idea that a vacation could be enjoyable without alcohol. For me, alcohol and vacation were intertwined in my belief of what made a trip fun. It took one sober trip to realize that vacations could be just as enjoyable without alcohol. In this episode, I share seven of my favorite tips for preparing for a sober vacation, along with strategies to help you stay on track during and after your trip. What you'll hear: Why we associate vacations with alcohol and how to change the associations one trip at at time My first sober travel experience and what I learned The benefits I've experienced from traveling without drinking: Keeping my wits about me, longer (slow) days I remember, and not needing a vacation from my vacation. Seven tips to help you prepare for your vacation before you leave: 1. Define your purpose of the trip. 2. Get clear on what challenges you are concerned about to create a plan when/if they come up. 3. Communicate your intentions not to drink with a travel buddy or someone at home. 4. Focus on Nourishment 5. Invest in something to carry with you as a reminder of your intention to stay a/f. 6. Write down you reasons why you don't want to drink and make an “if this, then that” plan that you can carry with you. 7. Write a Dear Me letter to open when you return. In this letter, you will talk about how you experienced your vacation without drinking and how grateful and proud of yourself you are. You are not alone if you're not that excited about alcohol-free vacations, but I want you to know that if you are choosing not to drink on vacation when you would normally - it is a badass move that can be life-changing. If you need extra sobriety support, join us inside Team Alcohol-Free before enrollment closes on 7/1/24. As 2022 comes to a close, many economic forecasters are predicting at least a mild recession in 2023. Yet data shows that the #vacationrental industry has more cause to stay optimistic than despair. This month, VP of Research Jamie Lane joins VP of Marketing Mariah Kamei to provide data-driven insights to help you prepare your #airbnbbusiness for 2023. Demand in 2023 will continue along a more mature path, further growing by 5.5% year-over-year, and while demand rises, this will cause occupancy to continue to fall. With the rise in interest rates, growth for nights listed will be 9%, less than in 2022. Economic pressures and inflation-weary consumers will lead to small ADR gains of 1.7% in 2023. This is why we recommend keeping pace with your competitors and changing your pricing throughout the season. Still, have questions? I'm constantly learning new things and trying to share them with you as often as possible. While writing two new books this summer, I've spent time studying, learning, and uncovering new concepts around body image issues, why we struggle, food issues, eating disorders, intuitive eating, fasting, feasting, and so much more. In this episode, I discuss 5 things I've learned about body image issues and food issues in 2022: 1. My Opinion of Myself and My Body is Not What's Most Important. This topic has come up with many clients this year and as I've dug into it more, I recognize this as one of the hardest aspects of overcoming body image issues. How do I let go of my own opinions of myself and my body? We dig into the realities here. Episodes referenced: https://comparedtowho.me/letting-go-of-the-need-to-always-be-right/ https://comparedtowho.me/help-my-husband-hates-my-body-featuring-dr-juli-slattery/ 2. We've Lost the Meaning and Purpose of Fasting. When Amy Carlson, eating disorder specialist and non-diet dietitian, and I dug into the Daniel Fast, you'd never believe what we found. Did you know that Daniel and his friends were fatter after their fast? It seems like the church has used Daniel's fast as a pattern to thinness--but what if we've distorted what fasting is really about and blended it with diet culture's rules that we should all look thinner? Episodes referenced: https://comparedtowho.me/should-i-fast-if-i-had-an-eating-disorder-a-look-at-fasting/ https://comparedtowho.me/feasting-and-fasting-with-erin-davis/ 3. Aging is Real. But, the reasons we struggle with it may not be. As I wrote on the topic of aging this summer, God showed me a number of things that were playing into my struggle. Episodes on this topic: https://comparedtowho.me/feeling-awkward-around-food-and-aging/ 4. Lessons from the Models: Those Who Look to the Lord Become Radiant (Psalm 34:5). You'll enjoy the story of how scripture came to life for one of the models I interviewed in a series last Spring. Also, check out the other model interviews they were revealing--models still struggle with body image issues! Episodes referenced: the-model-and-the-mirror-fast-featuring-jennifer-strickland https://comparedtowho.me/models-have-body-image-issues-too/ 5. We've gotten it all wrong on gluttony. Food is a gift. Have we distorted gluttony to mean over-eating? What if gluttony was never intended to be about food at all? Over-eating was rarely a problem for the common man in ages past. More will come next year on this topic, but this may offer some interesting context as you think about gluttony. http://comparedtowho.me/are-you-afraid-of-satisfaction-intuitive-eating-coaching-call/ Episodes to listen to again in December: Hot or Holy: https://comparedtowho.me/holy-or-hot-how-to-make-holiness-what-we-really-desire/ What is Self Control? https://comparedtowho.me/is-self-control-really-the-solution-to-our-food-issues/ Body Image Assessment: https://comparedtowho.me/summer-body-image-assessment-how-are-you-doing/ Episodes to Help You Prepare for New Year: What Journey are You On? https://comparedtowho.me/what-journey-are-you-on-why-thin-is-not-a-destination/ New Year, Renewed You: https://comparedtowho.me/podcast-new-year-renewed-you/ Do You Need a New Year, New You? https://comparedtowho.me/newyear-newyou/ 3 Tips to Meeting Goals in New Year: https://comparedtowho.me/3-tips-to-meet-your-goals-improve-body-image-in-the-new-year/ Read: https://comparedtowho.me/best-gift-this-new-year-is-not-weight-loss/ Other ways to connect in December: Check out the Christmas reading plan on You Version here: http://bible.us/r/7Qr It's Giving Tuesday! “The bottom line is that while you can't predict exactly which MMI prompt you'll be given, you can absolutely start preparing for the MMI. Become familiar with the format, practice your delivery, start reading about issues in health care, and start thinking about major points to discuss around these issues. While this won't take away your anxiety, it can absolutely help improve your confidence and performance–so that the next time you're faced with an 'angry' interviewer, you'll be prepared.” Rajani Katta is a dermatologist and author of Conquer the Medical School Interview and The Successful Match. Our host and fearless leader Rebecca is here to share a few prompts that she's working through herself this week to prepare for a brand-new year. Each of these things could be have an added lens of home versus work versus community involvement—you can add whatever context you want, but these prompts might be a little different than what you've used in the past. Most of these questions are reflections from 2021, prompting you to consider what to either bring into 2022 or just leave in the dust of 2021! We will be sharing more about these on social, so listen on in and follow us as we work through each of these prompts! Prompts to Reflect Upon 2021 and Prepare for 2022: Who are the people that made a difference for you last year? Buy a box of thank-you notes and commit to sending them all by the first week of the year. What were the times that made you feel the most yourself? Who are your loved ones that you struggle to fully love this past year? What boundaries could be put in place to make you love them more freely? What makes you laugh harder than anything else? What do you love to do and who do you love to spend time with? What triggered you in 2021—i.e. what made you feel defensive, offended, upset, etc. What do you truly love about where you live? Who did you give too much power to in 2021? In what ways did you beautifully serve in 2021 and in what situations did you serve out of guilt? What made you truly proud in 2021?
