The Real Estate Sessions
Episode 283 – Stacey Onnen, President of Brokerage Operations, eXp Realty

The Real Estate Sessions

Episode Summary: Meet today's guest, Stacey Onnen, President of Brokerage Operations for eXp Realty which launched in 2009, as she discusses eXp Realty and their strategies as a successful Real Estate organization. In this episode, I sit with Stacey, born and raised in Kansas City, across both the Kansas and Missouri sides. She shares her experience learning the business in the Prescott area and Chino Valley area of Arizona. Top Takeaways:  "I always tell every Real Estate agent who's struggling that if you have yet to realize that it is J.O.B, you are doing something very wrong." - [Stacey Onnen] "If you're not seriously keeping a database from day one, please do it because if I could think of my biggest mistake, it was that I did not log every single item from the beginning nor keep in touch with my clients often enough." - [Stacey Onnen] Episode Highlights: [00:24] Intro [03:03] Where did you grow up, and how did you settle in the Prescott area? [06:10] Stacey discusses her initial plans to study Accountancy.  [07:30] Opening her brokerage [14:43] How Stacey started with eXp Realty.  [19:12] Stacey narrates events surrounding her relocation to Puerto Rico.  [20:50] What does a typical day look like for you at your work? [23:53] The strength behind eXp; Revenue share over Profit share.  [28:15] Following the pandemic, how do things look going forward? [31:00] Stacey's advice to new agents [32:01] How to contact Stacey [32:33] Outro Episode Notes:  Stacey shares that she moved to Chino Valley of Arizona at 13yrs old, attended college and then moved to Prescott afterward, where she started her Real Estate career. She describes her experience in the Prescott area as the best that it could have been for a new agent. Stacey was studying Accountancy but never finished, although she could do the books for a few companies. Explaining that she had no real particular reason for starting Real Estate, she had the typical misapprehension of being unsure of her abilities as an agent. She worked both Real Estate and Accounting till she finally decided to focus on Real Estate. Stacey opened her brokerage at the age of 30. Following a car accident, she had stayed engaged by moving more into the operations aspect while stepping back from brokering. This built her up in that aspect and set her up for today's position as President of Brokerage Operations for eXp Realty. Stacey and her husband had never planned to settle in Arizona permanently, and with the opening of a new eXp branch in Puerto Rico, combined with her love for the water, they relocated there.  Glenn Sanford, the founder of eXp Realty, has over time preferred revenue share to profit share, and this has been the strength behind eXp Realty. Revenue share has been made possible by having agents who have a vested interest in the company because they own stock. It encourages agents to help each other. Also, there is a reduction in the overhead cost of running the company since eXp runs their staffing for the entire country, and fewer admin staff are needed to cover more ground.  Since the company had previously shifted a lot of its operations into virtual communication platforms before the pandemic, they could continue to serve clients in the usual way. Stacey shares that the business boomed during the pandemic.  For new agents: If you're not seriously keeping a database from day one, please do it because my biggest mistake was that I did not log every single item in the database from the beginning or keep in touch with clients often enough. Learn as much as you can. Treat Real Estate as a business, know your books, know your numbers, and it will change your life. Today it's great to have Stacey Sherwood on the podcast. Stacey has now completed her PhD at the MARCS Institute for Brain, Behaviour and Development, Western Sydney University. Stacey's PhD thesis is focused on the relationship between language and society. Specifically, she investigated the way people learn and use language to construct identities, stances and personas. By conducting an experimental series of production- and perception-based studies across two languages, Japanese and Australian English, Stacey found evidence to suggest that our beliefs mediate our prior language experience and thus shape the way we position ourselves in our communities. Notably, while doing her PhD, Stacey also made the time to write science fiction novels, and she has recently accepted an offer of representation with the Carolyn Jenks Agency. LAER has more than 34 offices across the country, and Stacey leads the organization with experience on both the real estate side and the mortgage side of the industry. As you can imagine, Stacey has built a wealth of knowledge and expertise as a real estate leader. And in this episode of the Pursuing Freedom podcast, she brings so much value. Stacey joins us to share her real estate journey and explain what it takes to achieve success in real estate. From essential skills to mindset, professional development, and networking, Stacey walks us through her framework for success. Nature vs. Nurture Stacey purchased her first piece of real estate when she was just 19 years old after learning how to process 203k rehab mortgages for other investors. From there, she started flipping houses and became a loan officer so she could work for herself. To grow her investment business, she decided to purchase a real estate office, and by 2014, she had 14 offices under her own brand. Nature vs. nurture is a big debate in every profession, and like many of us, Stacey discovered real estate by accident. She wasn’t born as a real estate leader with innate skills. She leveraged every resource around her to develop personally and professionally with a massive network of support. The Universe Has Your Back Selling and originating requires an entirely different skill set than it takes to be a real estate leader. In order to make that leap, Stacey sought out mentorship at every stage of the journey. We are the sum of the people we surround ourselves with and the information we consume, so it is critical that we actively manage both of those areas. We have to take calculated risks knowing that the universe will play out exactly the way it is supposed to. Even when bad things happen, there is a silver lining. Regardless of what you’re seeking, you can succeed if you believe you can! This past March, I was looking forward to giving a keynote at the Arizona Technology Council. Unfortunately, that didn’t happen. COVID happened. But in the process of figuring out what I was going to talk about during my keynote, I came up with an idea and I wanted to share it. It’s the idea of how to measure value in health care delivery, because might as well go big or go home, right? The metrics that we use to measure value is critical, and not just because what gets measured gets managed. It’s because American health care is the biggest most impressive display of game theory anyone anywhere has ever seen. I am not easily impressed, and I have to say that I am unfailingly and frequently more than impressed by the cognitive prowess and sheer determination among some parties to game the system and reach as much profit as possible at the expense of patients and taxpayers. So, coming up with the right metrics is paramount. The metrics have to be unimpeachable; they have to be immune to those who have every intention of twisting them against their spirit. For more information, go to aventriahealth.com.  When not hosting the show, Stacey is co-president of Aventria Health Group, a marketing agency and consultancy. How to Get Referrals without Having to Ask with Stacey Brown Randall

Referrals are the lifeblood of interior designers. But not only are they difficult to get, they can be awkward to ask for. On today’s episode, Darla and Natalie have Stacey Brown Randall, who literally wrote the book on Generating Business Referrals without Asking. Stacey Brown Randall is a business coach who helps small businesses, entrepreneurs and sales professionals generate loads of referrals. And as she says, her backstory begins when she started her own small business and watched as it failed. After that, she began to think about how clients could lead her to other clients. And she eventually cracked the code, departing from the age-old advice that to get a referral, you have to ask. What You’ll Hear On This Episode of Wingnut Social [2:00] An Amish backstory [6:15] A puppy backstory [9:13] How Stacey got into referrals (and why she doesn’t like showers) [13:05] When the light bulb went on about referrals [15:08] How to get started with referrals [20:48] The first step in generating referrals [24:31] Turning a referral source into an actual referral [30:30] The referral secret sauce [41:02] How Stacey discovered who was making referrals [45:50] Whut up, Wingnut? Connect with Stacey Brown Randall Stacey Brown Randall Stacey on LinkedIn Stacey on Twitter Resources & People Mentioned Generating Business Referrals without Asking Referral Ninja Quiz Profit First Wingnut Social’s services Referrals are the Holy Grail When Stacey looked back at her first business, she realized she didn’t get any referrals for from her clients. And when she started coaching businesses, she saw that most of her clients were actually coming from referrals. And so when she started looking into it, she saw that the standard advice is to ask for her referrals. Her response, quote: “Ew.” That’s not something she wanted to do. So she started looking at how to get referrals without asking, and pivoted her whole coaching business to doing just that. Before you ask or get for a referral, you have to identify the client who is ready to do that because they had an amazing experience. Those people then become “referral sources,” and it’s your job to stay in touch with them and maintain that relationship, so when someone in their life says they need an interior designer, your referral source immediately recommends you. How to get those referrals without asking The number-one way Stacey suggests to get referrals without asking is to make sure your clients know they care about them. She uses an example of how she sent a potential referral a gift, with no logo, no branding, nothing that said: “YOU MUST REFER ME.” She just treated that client like a human she cared about, and that person then became a referral source for her. Today I’m bringing you Stacey Ogden of Side Hustle Teachers, who believes that being a teacher doesn’t mean that you have to be broke or burnt out. Through her Side Hustle Summer Camp, she helps teachers that want to start a business as a way to stay busy over the summer, or want a different way to pursue their passions, or are looking to transition out of the classroom altogether. Stacey’s business is a great example of niching down. She takes a topic that is very broad, like starting an online business, and instead of trying to teach it to a very broad audience, like entrepreneurs or women or mom, she blended it with her passion and her experience and then laser-focused it on teachers, which allows her to speak directly to them in a way that resonates with them. You can go check out her website, www.side-hustle-teachers.com to see how she does it, and if you know any teachers, share this episode with them! You never know if they’ve had the inkling that they’ve wanted to do something different, and Stacey might just be the guide they need to take the first step. She has a couple of freebies on her Resources page so you can choose your own adventure - if you already have an idea for your side hustle she’ll help you cultivate it, or if you have no idea what you want to do but you know you want to do something, she’ll help you figure that out. Today we’re talking about: How Stacey started a blog for moms then pivoted to helping teachers figure out how to start a side hustle How Stacey leveraged skills she had already (instead of trying to learn a bunch of new ones) to serve her audience. The importance of listening to your inner voice How she monetizes her blog Three different strategies Stacey uses to drive traffic to her website. The method Stacey walks teachers through to help them figure out what they want to do Her best advice for what to do if you aren’t getting traction in your side hustle What Stacey had to do to start really believing that she’s a legit business owner The one belief she had to change about herself to get where she is today If you’re an educator, or you know one, you can join the Side Hustle Teachers Facebook Group. Side Hustle Summer Camp enrollment opens on May 6, so spread the word to all your teacher friends and check out Stacey’s podcast too! My favorite quotes from Stacey in this episode: “What are some small tweaks I can make to make my audience’s life even easier - and make them realize that I totally get where they are coming from?” “You have so many skills that go into being “just a teacher.” Let’s hash those out. What are you not only good at but what do you enjoy?” "I wasn’t a teacher by trade, I AM a teacher. It’s just my nature. It’s part of who I am, like my DNA."

She pours them coffee instead. Please join me in welcoming Stacey Altherr. In this episode we discuss: How Stacey worked at Newsday for 30 years and how she knew it was time to transition. How the 2009 adoption of her son influenced her decision on moving. Her thoughts about transitions and acknowledging that they don’t have to be forever. When They Want To Throw Another Organ In The Trash

I am feeling upset… I scrolled through Facebook this afternoon, only briefly, and saw this disturbing post. It was from a woman with Endometrisois who is contemplating ‘allowing’ her bladder to be removed. Yes! Her bladder! Removed! Oh my goodness. Whatever next?! We can produce Dolly The Sheep and fly to the Moon, yet women with Endometriosis are regularly having major organs removed. In brief; she previously had a cystectomy operation for medical treatment for her Endometriosis and cysts. But before long, not only did Endometriosis symptoms return, but soon there were side effects evident and further complications. One of them was bladder pressure. Painkillers, drugs and surgery do not treat the underlying causes of the Endometriosis condition, which is inflammation and hormonal imbalance. Painkillers, drugs and surgery only try to manage the symptoms. The bladder is a very sensitive organ which sits under the uterus. Bladder pressure (from my experience), can be caused by an inflamed uterus or general inflammation in the lower abdominal area. Equally, the bladder may be acutely sensitive to products like sugar, wheat, soy, gmo, additives, preservatives – which are widely known to irritate and add inflammation. So with my own journey (and other women I work with) it was only a case of adjusting and swapping out these elements that’s cause the inflammation and the bladder pressure disappeared. I refer to this process as Laidlaw Protocols amd the 5 P’s (poisons). The 5 P’s consist of Produce, Products, Property, People & Past. What has upset me the most is the mistreatment and misinformation she has been given. What on earth is her body and life going to be like after the removal of an essential organ? Only in the medical profession, can a treatment go wrong and/or fail, yet there is no recourse. There is no ‘money back’ and no accountability. No other industry in the world work operates like this. What is terribly troubling too is the emotional and psychological impact on her. It is often the case that many women, who may be so terribly traumatised by the decades of pain that has ravaged their body, and the invasive surgery, that they may develop a trauma bond with their physician or surgeon. I know I used to feel the same. That was me 6 years ago… So utterly desolate and desperate to be well – or at the very least pain-free – and that the only person who ‘appears’ to be helping them is someone offering ineffective treatment yet you cling to that surgical hope. Yet, why if Surgery is so ineffective do women have multiple surgeries? Do you know why? Because the surgeons blame the women or state it’s an enigma or they just don’t know. How is that even possible? How is it that miraculous feats can be accomplished in surgical realms now, yet the treatment for Endometriosis has remained the same for almost 50 years. Why? Big Pharma… Money… What if the advice they get is flawed or outdated? The medical profession used to believe, only 40 years ago, that cutting out part of your prefrontal cortex (brain) helped relieve depression… What if the current treatment is causing the Endometriosis to grow, creating new symptoms and side effects? I had 6 surgeries before I realised that the definition of insanity is “doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results” as Einstein said. It rarely occurs to women with Endometriosis to get a second opinion – or to question the professional WHY the procedure did not work. The gynaecological system is well oiled Machine. The Gold Standard does not address the underlying root causes of Endometriosis. So in over 97% of cases the symptoms return with more complications and adhesions. To remove the bladder! It’s barbaric. How is this allowed to happen? Whilst there is obviously a requirement for A&E services and transplants, the medical profession struggle to treat conditions like Endometriosis and bladder pressure; in my opinion and from my own past experience. Yet the trauma has bonded this poor woman to the very person who is causing her more harm. And the vicious cycle continues. If you are curious to know more and to learn how it IS possible to allow your body to regenerate, then listen to Stacey’s testimonial. Hear her success story about how her bladder pressure reduced, then disappeared along with her Endometriosis during my 12 Week Foundation Program. How Stacey even went on to have her beautiful little daughter Madeline; despite her doctor saying she would never have any children.   Where ever you are on your journey, remember all of your body parts are needed. Are important. Every single one of them. So never ever give one of them up without a fight. And look outside the medical box and learn about a NEW path to heal Endometriosis Naturally with me. Do you have a podcast - or video series or blog - but aren’t getting leads from it as you had expected? You know your content is good - you’re getting listeners and viewers and readers - but, when it comes to making money as a result of that content, it’s crickets (and an empty inbox). What can you do? This is the question my guest today, Stacey Ogden of Busy Mom Collective, had. In this on-air coaching call, you’ll hear as we dissect what’s going on with her podcast (if you don’t have a podcast, you can apply it to the content you’re creating). We come up with specific strategies she - and you - can use to generate leads, including: what to do on her podcast to talk about what she does what kinds of calls to action to include and how many where to promote her podcast what to do when people sign up for her email list.   One thing Stacey told me is that she doesn’t want her podcast to come off as a sales pitch. And, I totally get it. I did an entire episode on why you shouldn’t sell from the stage - and what to do instead (episode 59). The same premise applies to your podcast and other content. If you need help strategizing your podcast, video series, or messaging in general, you can book a strategy session. Strategy sessions are great for specific questions or challenges you have. We dig deep and you walk away with a concrete action plan, much like you’ll hear here with Stacey.   This episode is the second in a 4-part series related to podcasting. If you host a podcast or have a thought about it, this series will help you get better results. If you don’t have any plans for a podcast, still listen! The strategies we talk about can be applied in other areas too.   About My Guest: Stacey Ogden is the founder and owner of the Busy Mom Collective. Through her podcast of the same name, and working one-on-one with clients, she helps working moms and mompreneurs master their schedules, own their time, and conquer their out of control to-do lists. Every woman’s pregnancy experience is different, and each pregnancy brings its unique challenges. Today you’ll hear one woman’s story of her pregnancy, loss, and the obstacles she faced due to pre-eclampsia, which can affect women during pregnancy and in the postpartum period. My guest is gracious enough to share the heartbreaking details of her story, with the hope that those in similar circumstances will know they are not alone.   Stacey Porter is president and founder of The Tangerine Owl Project, a nonprofit devoted to offering peer support to families, started in memory of her daughter after a NICU loss in 2012. Stacey has been dedicated to efforts centered around supporting families who have suffered infant loss and traumatic birth since 2013. Stacey is heavily invested in efforts to support maternal mental health as it intertwines so greatly with traumatic birth and bereavement experiences for these families. She works as a contractor with the 2020 Mom Project, leading a volunteer program, social media, and a handful of other projects. She sits on the board of directors for local nonprofit Beyond the Baby Blues, which offers clinical group support to women suffering from perinatal mood and anxiety disorders, and she serves on the bereavement committee for the Mothers’ Milk Bank of the Western Great Lakes. Stacey is a member of the National Perinatal Association and Preemie Parent Alliance, and has collaborated on projects for patient education including online curriculum for staff on psychosocial support for NICU parents.    Show Highlights:   Stacey was pregnant with her third child in 2012 after two picture-perfect pregnancies with her son and daughter Why this was a completely different pregnancy experience, when swollen ankles at a 24-week appointment prompted her doctor to probe further and discover pre-eclampsia Within a few days, she found herself hospitalized and then transferred to a more equipped hospital The baby began to decline rapidly and her doctor told her to be prepared for delivery A C-section was scheduled and the baby was given a 40% chance of survival What is pre-eclampsia? A pregnancy condition in which maternal blood pressure rises to dangerously high levels, the baby is deprived of oxygen, and the placenta’s health can be affected Pre-eclampsia can occur in pregnancy or postpartum, causing vision problems and seizures, and can decelerate the baby’s heart rate Pre-eclampsia can affect people in different ways; Stacey didn’t have the typical risk factors, which include: the first pregnancy, a pregnancy with a different partner than previous pregnancies, smoking, and advanced maternal age Pre-eclampsia can be mild or severe and can affect women of every race and every age Back to Stacey’s story: the C-section was performed without complication and her daughter was born, weighing 1 lb. 5 oz. The baby was sent to NICU and Stacey was discharged, but camped out at the hospital for the next 27 days Stacey was on blood pressure medication for two months postpartum, but some women have to stay on them much longer How Stacey was able to pump and provide breast milk for her baby One weekend, Stacey went home for a quick visit and then returned to the hospital Her baby became lethargic and the doctor discovered an infection from hospital-acquired bacteria The baby became septic and they tried antibiotics for the aggressive Pseudomonas infection that they couldn’t get control of After three days of sickness, they spent the last moments with her and held her as she passed away Stacey realized that there is not a lot of peer support for people going through infant loss The Facebook connection that became Stacey’s lifeline, because even though friends and family tried to help, they just couldn’t understand like someone who had been through the same experience How people feel helpless and like they want to help but don’t know what to do or say How the Tangerine Owl Project was inspired through the experience with her daughter, Delilah How Stacey has grown and learned through her grief, starting the organization on the anniversary of her daughter’s death How anxiety, depression, and panic attacks started a couple of years later, even though she was doing everything she could to deal with her feelings How Stacey has become an advocate for maternal mental health   Resources:   www.tangerineowl.org   Find Stacey on Facebook: @Tangerine Owl Project or Stacey Dunlap Porter

Today’s episode of Just the Tips is all about a mystery to me: relationships. Unless we’re talking about one’s relationship to spreadsheets, this is basically a foreign subject to me, but Stacey Martino and her husband Paul have been helping people find true satisfaction and happiness in their relationships through their site RelationshipDevelopment.org and RelationshipU®. They help people transform their relationships even when one partner is not cooperating. But the proof will be in the pudding today as we see if she can fix my broken relationship with Dean. The suspense is killing you, I know. A passion borne of necessity What’s fascinating about Stacey’s story is that she got into relationship development thanks to her own personal experience. She was a corporate tax accountant when 20 years ago, her husband Paul, walked out on her. As she says, he was done with their relationship. Wanting to find some way to make the relationship work, Stacey dove headfirst into personal development and was able to save her marriage. Since then, she and Paul have been stronger than ever, and they then began to notice many great relationships go down in flames because the people didn’t have the tools necessary to stick together. She found her passion in life, and since then she’s been helping people all over the world with their relationships. You’re going to want to hear what she has to say about how to make yours even stronger. Start with you One of the most innovative things that Stacey and Paul have done is eschewed the pain of couples therapy. As she says, couples work is often very painful and very destructive, and so what Stacey and Paul do is teach people how to “master themselves.” If you know yourself better, and how you relate to people, you can improve how you are in a relationship, which will improve it even if your partner is unwilling or never changes. It’s basically self-improvement with a selfless goal. It’s a really fascinating conversation, and one you’ll want to hear on this week’s Just the Tips. Relationship development You may be thinking that Stacey’s work is only for romantic relationships, but given my roller-coaster relationship with Dean, I had to know if her principles apply to business relationships as well. And Stacey let us in on her eight-step program, almost all of which apply to business relationships as well (the sex one probably isn’t applicable). But the core principle of Stacey’s approach is helping people see how others see things. As she puts it, everyone is wired differently, and so you’re not going to be able to change how people are wired. But if you can figure out how that other person is wired, and appreciate the differences in others, it can be revolutionary to how you handle relationships. This is a bit departure for Just the Tips, but it’s a must-listen episode. Appreciation, not judgment The first thing you can do to help build stronger relationships, whether you’re in a business or a romantic relationship, is come from a place of appreciation, not judgment. So if you have a member of your team who you’re clashing with, you want to identify their strengths and appreciate what they do, rather than sit in judgment of what you see as their drawbacks. That’s just the tip of the iceberg for how to apply Stacey’s approach to your business relationships, and you’re going to want to listen to the whole episode of Just the Tips to get the complete picture. Functional Medicine Research with Dr. Nikolas Hedberg

In this episode of The Dr. Hedberg Show I interview Stacey Robbins!  This was a very unique interview because we didn’t focus on biochemistry, but rather how Hashimoto’s can affect your life and your relationships. Stacey Robbins (Certified Health Coach and Certified Yoga Instructor RYT200) is an award-winning Author, Speaker, and Integrated Wellness Coach. She is honored to work with senior executives in global organizations and is a trusted advisor to influential thought leaders, film producers, authors and creators who make a major impact in the world through their work. Stacey took a diagnosis with an autoimmune condition, Hashimoto’s – where the body attacks the thyroid -- and turned it into an opportunity to look behind the scenes at where she was at war with herself.  Traveling around the country for years to study and attend conferences, Stacey learned more about the mind, body, spirit connection, which allowed her to dive into the thoughts, patterns, and beliefs that were undermining her health. Her book, ‘You’re Not Crazy and You’re Not Alone: Losing the Victim, Finding Your Sense of Humor and Learning to Love Yourself through Hashimoto’s’(with a foreword by Dr. Izabella Wentz) is Stacey’s funny, honest, and soulful journey, to not only heal from the physical part of Hashimoto’s, but to address the inner work and healing that is available to every woman with Hashimoto’s. Giving back to the community is a core value as Stacey serves on the Board of Directors for Hashimoto’s Awareness, an organization that educates and empowers the Hashimoto’s community in the areas of testing, self-care, and healing.  At Hashimoto’s Awareness, she works alongside esteemed experts in the field of Thyroid health:  Dr. Izabella Wentz, Mickey Trescott, and Dana Trentini (a.k.a. Hypothyroid Mom). Stacey inspires women to live their happiest, healthiest life with Hashimoto’s and to use it as a teacher and guide to discovery as they learn to love themselves. As she says, “Hashimoto’s isn’t the end of your health, it’s the beginning of your healing.” We discussed the following topics in detail during the interview: -How Stacey got connected to Hashimoto's. -The top three messages women should know from reading Stacey’s book. -How relationships are affected with your spouse or partner, when you have an autoimmune condition. -Helpful tips for both of you to have when dealing with Hashimoto’s. -How Hashimoto’s affects being a parent. -How Stacey’s life and lifestyle changed by having Hashimoto's. “Life gets better...Things get much better... if you can get through that hard stage... Life, love, happiness, everything gets a whole lot better…” Stacey Ecoffey is an enrolled member of the Oglala Lakota. She grew up on the Pine Ridge Reservation in Pine Ridge. She is currently the Principal Advisor for Tribal Affairs at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Growing up, horses were a big part of Stacey’s life. Her grandfather always had her on a horse, and she found horses to be a big stress relief. She attended rodeos. She also enjoyed school Stacey Ecoffey attended Colorado State University. She earned a degree in Cultural Anthropology with a focus on Native American studies. Her school was far enough away that she could be in her own world, but close enough to home that the self-described “rez girl” could get home to visit family, too. She thought she would return home to work for the tribe, but decided to attend graduate school before coming home. So she attended Boston College and earned her Master’s Degree in social work. After grad school, she returned home and ended up finding a job as a coordinator for the tribal council’s Health and Human Service Committee. Very similar to Jodi Gillette, Stacey believes this experience was critical to learning how to function and maneuver and get things done in DC. In this episode we discuss: Stacey’s philosophy to always move forward, to have a glass half full. How a fellowship prompted her move to DC. The importance of networking. How attending the Indians into Medicine program got Stacey used to being away from home. How Stacey learned that you can always come back home. How being away from home can strengthen who you are and your values. The sacrifices people make when they are away from home. How to make an impact in your community. ### This is part 3 of a series called Lakota Voices. For more episodes, subscribe to iTunes or Stitcher or visit NextGen Native to get all previous episodes.
