Fixing the problem is a band-aid solution. For it not to be a repeated issue, leaders should target the cause of the problem, and fix it from the root. Read the Show Note from this Episode Steve Anderson's father was a huge inspiration to him growing up. [01:00]On his first job working in the United States Postal service, taught him that not everyone has the same standard of what a good job is. [02:54]Bezos left Wall Street to start his own business because he does not want to regret not trying to pursue his dreams. [05:01] Books came up on the top when Bezos was thinking of products to sell on Amazon because the internet has unlimited shelf space. [05:40]Other than the undeniable value of customer obsession, Amazon also values hiring employees that can implement its standards. [11:31]Steve discuss about Amazon's ‘obsessing over customers' and how this principle propels the company forward. [18;27]What separates Amazon from other companies is that it encourages employees to come up with ideas and experiment. This takes effort and commitment but this is something we must do to ensure we are maneuvering ourselves to success.A much bigger problem in selling is the resistance to sell rather than the inability to do so.Hearing rejection over the phone is more personal which is why many sales people do not like making phone calls. We should not let this fear or any type of fear limit our capacity to succeed. Remember that going through the NOs will lead us to the YESes.  Read the Show Notes from this Episode "Whether you think you can, or you think you can't, you're right," this quote by Henry Ford is one of Alex's favorite. [01:31] Fight and flights is reactive to our DNA. [03:38] The percentage of salespeople getting rejected is higher. [04:18] Another great quote loved by Alex is from Winston Churchill- "Success consists of going from failure to failure without loss of enthusiasm." [04:25] Cold calling is hard which is why it is better to call people who we know, who we have a connection and a relationship with. This does not mean we need to avoid cold calling. [05:42] Pick Up the Phone and Sell, the title of his new book, was chosen because they wanted a behavior tittle. [07:14] The phone is the most efficient selling tool and yet is the most avoided. This is because rejection over the phone is a more intimate form of rejection. You don't get this rejection on email. [09:15] 80 to 90% of the time, cold calls end up in voicemails. [10:16] Alex talks about preparing to make a call. [11:11] Paul is a CEO of a firm with a very small group engineers who must sell but has no interest in selling. Avoid this unnecessary problem by being specific and clear on how much time and effort is needed for a specific task and be clear on what needs to be done to have the desired result.Equally important for clear communication is to ask for specifics. Not everyone should be included in the meeting. Choose the people who are needed to contribute or who are efficient and well-versed on a specific task that needs to be done to achieve the goal. It would be a waste of time and productivity to those who have nothing to do with the objective to join the meeting. Read the Show Notes from this Episode Ann's father who taught her how to speak her mind was her biggest inspiration. [01:21]Her outspokenness earned the rare and probably one of a kind award ‘most likely to dispute recognized authorities.' [02:07]Moving farther away from the production process, which is the tangible side of business, to the cognitive side which is management, a big problem is having a not clearly defined goals and objectives. [03:45]Meetings are important but a lot of people, based on surveys, think that meetings are just a waste of time. [05:16]The two steps to having a meaningful meeting is to decide what needs to change after the meeting and to have specific steps on how to get to the end result. [08:03]Ann shares about a health care company wherein a miscommunication between Jess and her boss on how much to prioritize putting hand creams on parks, cost wasted time and effort, and affected trust and confidence. 10:02]To resolve this issue the VP of the health company hired Ann to fix Jess's...

The right climate cultivates the conditions for the kind of leadership we all want within our organizations. Interview Insights People learn when you generate the conditions for them to have insights. Our vision is where we want to go on the horizon, but our purpose is to change the world.Emotional intelligence can be manipulative. To avoid that you have to be entirely aligned with one's values and one's higher purpose. We know that the fish rots from the head, and that culture and climate are very often a corollary of the behavior of the leadership. The transpersonal leader leads beyond their ego, not just in their self interest for their own glorification or power. They do it for the greater good. They do it in service of a purpose of their organization.Empower those in the organization, give them the awareness of how to cascade the behaviors so that they have an impact on those underneath them.Leadership is about creating a new direction. It is about inspiring. It's about vision. If you're trying to influence and inspire, you want to be at the visionary end of the spectrum, you want to be a leader at that point.Very often a leader will have to flip between being a manager and a leader. It's about the awareness of where they are on the spectrum and being at the right place on the spectrum at any given moment. One normally starts with a journey of self discovery in becoming a leader. Leaders should help employees save their time by working on what is really important and what is really adding value. We cannot avoid sacrifices, big or small, in the process of making our dreams come true. However, we should still give ourselves the incentive of having quality time doing what we want, with the people that matter, and taking care of our wellbeing. Interview Insights The more that we spend our time conquering the to-do list, it becomes a burden of stress on our body. If you are just going through the schedule and the to-do list, schedule in some free space where for just 15 minutes a creating something. We are cultured to have these limiting beliefs and that's why the big message in creating space to thrive is to create space and growth, not obstacles. If I could wave a magic wand and go back, I would have built-in more time to really, pursue creativity. Being able to build the life where I'm working on something that brings me joy and it gets me into that flow state, doesn't feel a lot like work.   Look for some creative pursuits you can go after. Teach your team the concept of being growth-minded.  I want to be working on the things that are really adding value to my clients and to myself.
