On today's episode, Vince sits down with Luis Navia, a former Cuban-American drug trafficker who played a central role in the international cocaine trade for over 25 years, and Jesse Fink, the author who chronicled Luis's story. Born in Cuba, Luis fled to Miami with his family after Castro's takeover in 1959. Raised in privilege, he attended private schools and Georgetown University before becoming involved in drug trafficking in the 1970s. Known in South American cocaine circles as “El Senador,” Luis worked with powerful cartels, including Escobar's Medellín cartel, the Cali cartel, and Venezuela's Cartel de los Soles, building extensive smuggling networks across Latin America, the Caribbean, and the U.S. In 2000, Luis was arrested in a global operation that involved the DEA, FBI, and Colombian authorities. After being held accountable for over 10 tons of cocaine, he cooperated with U.S. authorities, providing critical information on cartel operations and serving five years in prison. Together, Luis and Jesse share insights into the dangerous world of drug trafficking, the decisions that led to Luis's rise and fall, and the lessons learned along the way. In this Episode Julie and Ginger talk to Dr. Rick Cain. Rick specializes in the neuroscience of stress and well-being. He helps us explore how wellness practices in the biological domain of self-regulation, such as healthy eating, restorative sleep, and regular exercise, aid in our ability to regulate our nervous system and are pivotal for optimizing cognitive function, forming habits, and managing emotions. Rick teaches us about the concept of the "body budget," as coined by Lisa Feldman Barrett, PhD -https://lisafeldmanbarrett.com - and he ends with talking about how we can use mindfulness to help us avoid functioning on autopilot. Autopilot is a state of mind in which one acts without conscious intention or awareness of present-moment sensory perception. It's common for us to go through our days on autopilot, just trying to get through them. It's a normal part of the human experience, and it's okay sometimes to lose track of the present moment. It's important to recognize that when we're constantly on autopilot, we risk missing out on the small moments that make up our lives. The choice between operating on autopilot and cultivating a state of awareness is within our control.
It's time to go to work and we're riding along with Brent and his dad this week. Traveling all over Southeast Arkansas and visiting area farms was a fun activity for him as a kid. What's it like to work on a riverboat? Lee Hendrix entered riverboat work in 1972 as a deckhand, worked his way up to mate, then into the pilothouse. He has spent most of his adult life as a pilot of riverboats big and small, from tows pushing barges to elegant overnight cruise ships. In his new book, Peep Light: Stories of a Mississippi River Boat Captain, Lee shares stories from those years on the river. In this interview, we talk about how he got his start working on the river, the grueling but satisfying work of a deckhand, and the jobs on a towboat. We also discuss his path to the pilothouse, the basics of steering a tow pushing a load of barges, and the differences between piloting big and small boats. Near the end, Lee talks about the allure of river life and the long, sometimes lonely life of working on a towboat. In the Mississippi Minute, I offer a few tips for paddling on the Mississippi River around commercial and recreational boat traffic.Find out more about the Mississippi River at mississippivalleytraveler.com.

Is Your Life Working? - Matthew KellyGet Matthew's 60 Second Wisdom delivered to your inbox: https://www.matthewkelly.com/subscribeVideo Transcript:“Is your life working? It's a simple question, really. We cannot look at another person's life and know, but most of the time, we know how well our own life is (or isn't) working. When we reflect upon our lives, we usually discover that in some ways they are functioning well and in other ways they are dysfunctional. What does this mean for you? It means in some ways you are flourishing, but in other ways you are experiencing dissatisfaction. God is speaking to you through that dissatisfaction. You can learn to live with your discontent, or you can accept it as an invitation. The danger zone is marked by comfort. This is where things aren't great, but they aren't horrible either, so you just continue to muddle along. We gravitate toward comfort, and it's amazing how comfortable we can get with things that are uncomfortable or worse. The thought of something new and unknown activates our resistance and hesitancy. These are mental, emotional, and spiritual obstacles that we all need to push through in order to move from surviving to thriving. Are you thriving or just surviving? It's time to stop muddling along. If your life isn't working, what are you willing to do about it? Are you open to trying something new? These videos are an invitation to flourish and thrive like never before.”If you have not read LIFE IS MESSY, order your copy today: https://amzn.to/2TTgZKn Subscribe to Matthew's YouTube Channel today! https://www.youtube.com/c/MatthewKellyAuthor/featured?sub_confirmation=1https://www.matthewkelly.comGet Matthew's 60 Second Wisdom delivered to your inbox: https://www.matthewkelly.com/subscribe The Best Version of Yourself and 60 Second Wisdom are registered trademarks.#MatthewKelly #BestVersionOfYourself #BestVersion

In these challenging times in our world, it seems more difficult to celebrate, even our smallest wins. I sometimes get into "self-guilt" mode and think, "How can I celebrate when people are suffering?" I quickly realized that this helps no one, especially myself. Instead, I have been shifting my thoughts and words into, "I care and will do my part about what is happening currently AND express cheer and gratefulness for life, accomplishments, and personal wins (large and small)." My podcasting journey has not been an easy road with a couple of starts and stops but I am thankful to still be here, continuing on for you. There is no better way to highlight this milestone than having a conversation with Danielle Esbit-Ayala, my friend, co-worker, and top listener of Organize with Grace. (Thank you, Danielle, so grateful for you!) This was such a fun episode where Danielle talked with me about how the podcast has impacted her organizing journey. She also shares her 3 favorite episodes and why she chose them. THANK YOU to all of you lovely listeners. It is because of you that this podcast exists!
