¡Nuevo episodio! Esta vez, volviendo a uno de esos formatos tan diferentes como originales. En resumen, hemos realizado un debate/tertúlia sobre un tema que sirve para todas las épocas (aunque nosotros lo enfocamos más al retro): la ambientación en los juegos. ¿Por qué es tan importante? Y sobre todo, ¿en qué consiste realmente? Por supuesto, como no podía ser de otra manera, en este episodio hablamos sobre un montón de juegos con una gran ambientación, pero también reflexionamos sobre todo lo que debe tener un título para generar esas buenas atmósferas. De todas formas, el que más brilla en este episodio es nuestro colaborador Cyberio. El caso es que Andrés nos hace una clase magistral del género Immersive Sim. No es que el nombre nos apasione, pero sí sirve para hacernos entender. Efectivamente, una parte del programa está dedicado a aquellos juegos que basan parte de su atractivo en la ambientación, tanto narrativa como jugablemente. Por eso, hablamos tanto de algunos de los juegos más representativos del género (como Deus Ex), como de los elementos que lo caracterizan. Y eso, de forma inteligente, lo extrapolamos a los juegos que no son del género. En otras palabras, también hablamos de cómo muchos juegos utilizan la narrativa de una forma diferente para crear una buena ambientación y sumergirnos en sus mundos. Incluso hablamos de elementos narrativos que forman parte de la jugabilidad, llevando al jugador a transformar el mundo o a implicarse en la propia historia a través de cómo juega (y no por argumento). Y todo eso sin olvidarnos de muchas sorpresas. ¿Podríais responder qué juegos son malos pero con buena ambientación? ¿Y al revés? Como no, Uri pondrá a prueba a Pablo, improvisando en directo. Holder remaket af en 30 år gammel klassiker? “System Shock” er et action-adventure immersive sim med horror-elementer, udviklet af Nightdive Studios og udgivet af Prime Matter. Men måske vigtigst af alt er det et remake af “System Shock” fra 1994 – et af de vigtigste og mest betydningsfulde spil inden for Immersive Sim-genren af computerspil. Hvorfor spørger du måske? Jo, fordi “System Shock” skabte selve genren Immersive Sim. Så hvis “System Shock” ikke var blevet lavet, havde vi nok aldrig fået ikoniske spil som “Dishonored”, “Bioshock” og “Dead Space”. Remaket af “System Shock” startede faktisk som en Kickstarter-kampagne tilbage i 2015, som hurtigt fik vind i sejlene. I maskinrummet var der dog større problemer. Det skulle oprindeligt være udkommet tilbage i 2017, men det endte med at blive udskudt hele 6 gange – blandt andet fordi man skiftede til Unreals grafikmotor midt i processen. Sidste år, i 2023, udkom spillet endelig til PC og fik store roser verden over. Nu, et år efter, er spillet også udgivet til konsol, og det har givet anledning til at se, om “System Shock” er et værdigt remake af et så ikonisk og betydningsfuldt spil – eller om anmeldere verden over har spillet søm. Nu skal vi nemlig anmelde remaket af “System Shock”. Med i denne episode er Lau Mellemgaard Eskildsen, David Darville og Morten Urup.

In 1994 the immersive sim genre was born with the release of System Shock.  Developed by Looking Glass Technologies, it set the standard for gameplay and story structures for future games in the genre such as Thief, Deus Ex, Bioshock or Prey.  As an unnamed hacker, you awake on a space station after a long cryosleep only to find the halls littered with bodies and the walls smeared with blood.So begins your journey on board the Citadel Space Station, as you try to thwart the evil Shodan and piece together what exactly happened in the 6 months that you were asleep.But for all its innovation more than 25 years ago, is System Shock still a fun game to play today?  Its User Interface has more in common with a flight sim than a first person shooter.  Enemy hitboxes are literal rectangular boxes that extend far beyond their model.  And while the game is in first person, it requires you to constantly switch into point and click adventure mode to interact with the world.  Does System Shock do the immersive sim genre proud, or does the experience come across as outdated and clunky?On this episode, we discuss:How well does System Shock handle worldbuilding?  Do its terse audio logs add to the gameworld, or do they leave it feeling lifeless and gamey? How enjoyable are its shooting mechanics? Videospielspezial 26 Besuch im Kompendium! Diesmal handelt es sich um Ben von Dailydpad, den fleißige (und vor allem strapazierfähige) Hörer natürlich bereits aus unserer Geburtstagsepisode kennen, und der, zusammen mit dem jungen Michael, von Texanern in den Weltraum geschickt wurde. Dort sind die beiden nun an Bord der Raumstation Talos I immersiert und einer Aliengefahr ausgesetzt, die es mit allen verfügbaren und möglichen Mitteln zu bekämpfen gilt. Dabei geht es natürlich um das 05.05.2017 erschienene "Prey" von ihren guten Freunden bei Arkane Studios. Dabei wird zuerst möglichst spoilerfrei darüber geredet, damit sich auch interessierte Hörer ein Bild darüber machen können, ob sich das fünfte Spiel des Entwicklers für sie denn lohnt (es lohnt sich), worum es dabei eigentlich geht, und ein bisschen Hintergrundinformationen zur sogenannten "Immersive Sim" bekommt ihr auch noch gratis dazu! Danach gibt es dann, nach einer Ankündigung, den Spoilerteil, in welchem sowohl genauer auf die Handlung als auch die Gameplay-Mechaniken des Spiels eingegangen wird und noch das ein oder andere Lanzenlager für das Sci-Fi-Abenteuer gebrochen wird, Michael tatsächlich erst einmal vergisst, über den wunderbaren, von Mick Gordon komponierten Soundtrack zu schwärmen, und in dem nicht einmal lange Ladezeiten sie davon abhalten können, das Spiel selbst in einem von großartigen Titeln gekrönten Jahr wie 2017 als herausragend zu bezeichnen.
