If we were reading Jonah for the first time, it may seem like the end of chapter 3 is the happy ending of the book. Chapter four, however, would likely catch us off guard. Jonah's childish temper tantrum at the spiritual awakening in Nineveh is shocking. However, we soon find out we have some of Jonah dwelling in all of our hearts. May the Lord's patience with Nineveh and Jonah by an encouragement to us! You can watch this message here.

In Esther 7, the narrative unfolds with unexpected twists, revealing justice for the wicked and reward for the righteous. While the divine presence is implicit rather than explicit, one can discern God's strategic orchestration of events in Esther's life. What may appear as obstacles, tragedies, or misfortunes are actually precisely positioned dominoes in the grand design. Each seemingly adverse circumstance aligns perfectly, awaiting the gentle push from the divine hand to set off a chain reaction, guiding everything into its intended place with flawless precision.
Bonus episode! Emilio, Madeline and Julian are joined by esteemed NYC musician and bandleader Matt Friedman to discuss one of his favorite films, M. Night Shyamalan's 'Unbreakable'. The quartet dig into the many fun aspects of this film - the great camera work and the influence comic book imagery has throughout, its status as a revisionist superhero movie, the abundant color symbolism, how its twist ending is still so effective (in spite of being there the whole time in retrospect), and much more. The group end with a highlight round of Unlikely Shared Universe, that features leaps in time, actual leaps, and a particular brand of nautical nonsense. Spoiler alerts for this film, as well as M. Night's related films 'Glass' and, to a lesser extent, 'Split'.Be sure to check out Matt and his fantastic band Stiletto on IG:@stilettobandnycand at the band's website:www.stilettobandnyc.comIf you haven't yet, please consider writing us a positive review on the podcast platform of your choice. There's no source of power on this earth that can ever compare to God and His infinite power, wisdom, and goodness. Pastor Ricky will explain today how God can and will strike down the things that people put their trust and hope in, in this world. But He is harsh for a good purpose. He tears down false security so that you'll turn to Him for security. He strikes down earthly wisdom so that you'll trust Him entirely. He can take away everything in your life that draws you away in order for you to recognize that He is all you need.
Political power, national strength, or a good economy can cause a country or an individual to feel invincible. These things give a false sense of security, strength, and comfort. But today, Pastor Ricky will challenge you to examine what you put your trust and hope in. Does your joy and stability ebb and flow based on the state of your environment? None of these things have any power and none can save you. God may strike down these false sources of power in your life in order to draw you back to Himself.

In their first episode of 2024, Madeline, Julian and Emilio disembark, hand over their firearms, and investigate Martin Scorsese's 2010 film 'Shutter Island'. In the third of five episodes considering "perceptions of sanity," the trio consider its place among other well known films with twist endings. Is this Scorsese's attempt to beat M. Night Shyamalan at his own game? How much of what we see is actually happening? Who is the real "monster" in this film? Should some of these nurses and orderlies consider side hustles as working actors? Did Emilio actually find a scenario where clever wordplay just didn't do it for him? The three also try their hand at a new segment called 'Unlikely Shared Universe', where they test the limits of their imagination and movie nerd brains to keep characters repopulating the movies they love, only with new aliases and identities.
Hollywood was crippled by strikes earlier this year. This led to a number of delays and changes including Dune: Part II. Thankfully, some great character posters were released. We also talk about one of the least talked about movies from one of our favorite actors. Plus, a look at the potentially great genre offerings coming at the end of the first week of December.A Creature Was Stirring sounds like it is going to be a goofy holiday horror movie. A mother carefully takes care of her daughter who is suffering from a mysterious sickness. When two burglars great into her home, she is forced to confront her checkered past. Along the way, there is a unique creature, some well done Christmas vibes, and a pretty creepy story. It's ending completely through us for a loop. It all but ruins every bit of goodwill that has been built by introducing a plot twist that makes little sense in the context of the story. We try to make sense of it and disagree over what it means for the movie as a whole. It also leads to the requisite conversation about whether Die Hard is a Christmas movie. (Spoiler alert: it isn't.)It's a Wonderful Knife is a title that seems to trap a movie into being little more than a spoof. While there are some allusions to the Frank Capra classic, the 2023 film brings some fun new elements. There are great characters, a fantastic villain, and well paced story that does not waste any time. It is an overall great addition to anyone's holiday horror catalog. In this week's episode of the AIPT Movies podcast, Alex, Tim, and Matt discuss M. Night Shyamalan's tale of real-life superheroes and comic book mythos, Unbreakable!Perfectly balanced horror, tension, and comedy! A wonderful cast that includes Robin Wright, a magnetic Samuel L. Jackson, and Bruce Willis in one of his greatest roles! A fantastic (and occasionally pretty funky) score from James Newton Howard! Graceful camera work and effective use of color that helps define the characters and story! One of Shyamalan's best movies and one of his best twist endings! All that and more in this movie that helped pave the way for the modern superhero genre, and is secretly about how you can never be happy if you're not true to yourself! In addition, Tim and Alex share their spoiler-free thoughts on Barbie, Oppenheimer, They Cloned Tyrone, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem! You can find AIPT Movies on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or wherever you get your podcasts. You know there is not much going on in the indie and genre world when the possible KISS biopic starts off the show. That being said, it is a fun discussion that includes street festivals, the mystique behind KISS, and what it is like to see the most mountains you have ever seen in your life. What does Chris Rock have to do with queer horror? Not much. Then why are we covering Spiral? Believe it or not, there were actually two horror movies with the name released within a few months of each other. We cover the Shudder original about a same sex couple that move to a small town to raise their teenaged daughter. They soon learn their neighbors harbor a dark secret. On the surface, the movie does a lot right. It presents a gay couple as nothing out of the ordinary, yet still makes the pairing a focal point of the plot. One of us had an epiphany watching Spiral while the other was unimpressed. And both of us agreed that for all the good it does, the film has a lot of flaws. We have covered some sexy movies on our humble little podcast. We even dedicated a whole month to erotic thrillers. But few movies have been as sexy as Follow Her. We even wonder if we have ever covered a movie that is filled with this much lust. The story focuses on a social media influencer who accepts a job to complete an erotic novel. It soon becomes a game of cat and mouse that is titillating, suspenseful, and a whole lot of fun.Adventures in Movies! is a part of the Morbidly Beautiful Podcast Network. Alex, Emily, and John discuss Iain Reid's psychological thriller I'M THINKING OF ENDING THINGS (2016). What did you think the book was about when you first saw the title? Is the book funny? Is it frightening? What was your reaction to the end of the story? Are dramatic twists just storytelling gimmicks or do they add complexity to a story? In addition to the book, Alex, Emily, and John chat about the Id, the Ego, and the Superego, as well as the ways that isolation impacts modern life.

ON THE 102ND EPISODE OF BOMB SQUAD MOVIE NIGHT: Tanner, Austin, Tim, Joe, and special guest Brenden Sweger (co-host of The CineManiacs radio show) discuss the 2022 mystery film from Rian Johnson,
It has been a while coming, but we finally talk about the new trailer for Evil Dead Rise. We are all huge fans of the franchise and unsurprisingly very excited to see what direction it is going in. We talk about the creepy trailer and what we liked about it and what has us worried. There is some interesting genre fair coming at the end of January. This leads to conversations about UFO sightings we had as children and faith based movies we were tricked into watching. We also talk about Nicholas Cage's surprising history with the Left Behind franchise and the interesting decision from Paramount+ to bring audiences a no longer Teen Wolf movie. The first half of 2022 was a goldmine as it seemed like we were watching an indie or genre gem each week. Things seem to slow down during the second half of the year, but it also included some of the best stuff we saw. We do things a little different this year and start off with some surprises before talking about the stuff we all knew we were going to say.Our discussion includes a movie with an ending so distressing that two hosts refused to recognize the film as one of the best of the year because of it. Another film riled one of us due to its outspoken protagonist. We also managed to include two (!) movies with ties to El Paso, talk about career performances, and even get a little Weird.Adventures in Movies! is a part of the Morbidly Beautiful Podcast Network. I've got my friend Suzy back along with her husband Ben to talk the 1997 David Fincher film, The Game. We've been talking about doing this episode for a while so I was extra curious to see this film for the first time being a Fincher fan. This film really offers up more questions than answers. During our discussion we came up with ideas for a series that could work, how this differs from other Fincher films, and how Michael Douglas plays the perfect rich guy whose life gets all the way fucked up.Off-topic rants include: illusions, rich families, and nepo babies.---Get OVER 50 BONUS episodes on 90s TV and culture (Freaks & Geeks, My So Called Life, Buffy, 90s documentaries, and more...) and to support the show, join the PATREON for $5 a month! www.patreon.com/fashiongrungeGIVE US A 5 STAR RATING & SUBSCRIBE!Hosts: Lauren @lauren_melanie & Suzy & Ben Music by Den-Mate @imdenmateFollow Fashion Grunge Podcast Instagram @fashiongrungepodTwitter @fgrungepodLetterboxd Fashion Grunge PodcastTikTok @fashiongrungepod
This is the first year we had no preview for the Oscars. It was not an intentional choice; we simply forgot about them. We had decided we were going to talk about how underwhelming the Academy Awards were this year. Will Smith and Chris Rock provided a moment to remember, but does that change the fact the fact that the show was not all that great? We will never be lacking for Stephen King content so the news that HBO Max is working on a new series based on King's work in not surprising. The fact that it is a prequel to It is very interesting, however. We talk about what direction the show may go in and why we are a little concerned. The Free Fall is a movie about a woman who attempts to commit suicide unsuccessfully. When she wakes up, she remembers little and her husband tries to nurse her back to full strength. It is a straightforward premise, but we had a lot of trouble discussing it. We do our best to talk about the movie while dancing around its interesting ending.Trucksploitation Month begins with a doozy. Truck Stop Women is a 1974 exploitation pick that does not mess around. Starring B Movie queen Claudia Jennings the movie leans into the trucker culture. We have never discussed anything like this on the show before. From its portrayal of the south to its amazing ending, it may be the seminal big truck movie. And yes, we unironically compare it to Paris is Burning.Adventures in Movies! is a part of the Morbidly Beautiful Podcast Network. Morbidly Beautiful is your one stop shop for all your horror needs.
