In this installment, after the team opens with a discussion about new legislation in California that seeks to make Bigfoot the official state cryptid, we are joined by researcher Jeff Carpenter, who discusses his experiences covering more than 20 years of research into the Sasquatch (Bigfoot) legend as well as local history/legends from the WNC mountains. Jeff grew up learning outdoor craft of hunting and tracking from his father, Earvin Carpenter. He is a descendant of some of the earliest settlers of the Western North Carolina mountains, including his grandfather, Harley Carpenter who was one of the first mountain people written about in the well-known Foxfire book series on Appalachian Mountain Living. Jeff is currently a Field Investigator for the Bigfoot Research Organization which interviews witness reports as well as documenting them for further study.  He is also a member of the East Coast Expeditions Group, Kentucky Bigfoot Organization and the Co-Founder of the Appalachian Sasquatch Research Project.  Jeff has presented his research findings during presentations he has given in North Carolina, Georgia, Tennessee, Kentucky and Ohio, as well as being a guest speaker on numerous podcasts.  He made an appearance in the Small Town Monsters documentary movie titled “ On the Trail of Bigfoot: The Ancients”, which can be seen on YouTube and Amazon Prime, as well as other streaming channels. Jeff is the former Director of the Jackson County Parks and Recreation Department where heworked for 32 years and is now retired.  He is a graduate of Western Carolina University and still resides in Sylva. This is Jeff. Jeff found me via a friend. A friend I had met nearly ten years earlier… While I was a young kid getting started in a new career. Living in Pittsburgh, working for the Pittsburgh Penguins, a Sam discovered a deep-seeded question in me: what if there’s more, in me, and in the world around me. Sam introduced me to the beat writers. He introduced me to Nick Drake. He introduced me to philosophical conversations which didn’t need to have some sort of completion. I was 21. And at 31, a good ten years later, I found myself in New York, hosting a workshop on emotional intelligence with a Jeff who was sent to me by Sam. Such is life, in that, we never know why we met the people that we meet and how their presence will forever affect us. You see? In some way, the way in which Jeff and I are communicating in this podcast, touching on the question of the fear or being, is parallel to the very questions I was asking Sam. It is, after all, very much all connected. So thank you, Sam. Thank you, Jeff. And thank you Jon Krakauer for asking the very question we discuss in this episode by actually going out and finding your answer.

We tried something new for this episode of the B&H Photography Podcast—we ventured into the B&H SuperStore to interview camera shoppers, fans of the podcast, and attendees of the Panasonic Lumix Day Event. We coordinated with our marketing team and organized a sweepstakes to give away a Lumix DMC-GX85 Mirrorless camera with a 12-32mm lens and a 45-150mm lens. We became acquainted with our audience a bit better by asking people two simple questions and chatting with them about photography. The first question was: “Which is the favorite photo you have ever taken?” and the second question was, “How would winning a GX85 change your photography?” The answers were as varied and entertaining as one would expect, and we include several of these short conversations in this episode. When we finished our recordings, we randomly picked a winner of the sweepstakes, and the winner will also be announced toward the end of the show. Because we were recording as part of the Lumix Day event, several interesting photographers and videographers, each a Lumix ambassador, were speaking at the B&H Event Space. After their talks, they joined us for a brief chat, and we include these conversations with documentary filmmaker Griffin Hammond, lifestyle photographer Jeff Carpenter and wedding and travel photographer William Innes. Each brings insight to their respective disciplines, and the engagement with shoppers and fans is not to be missed.  Join us for this fast-paced and entertaining episode.
