Dr. Jodi Aman, renowned psychotherapist and TEDx speaker, joins Dr. Amy and Sandy on this episode of the Brainy Moms podcast to uncover the root causes behind the escalating anxiety epidemic among teenagers. It's a bold statement, but modern conveniences might be making things worse. Dr. Aman suggests that the reduction in problem-solving opportunities due to cultural shifts has led to increased negativity and entitlement among teens. She argues that chores, often seen as mundane, are vital in alleviating anxiety, instilling resilience, and combating negative thought patterns. By categorizing chores into tedious, challenging, and generous, we examine how each type plays a crucial role in developing essential life skills and when tying chores to allowances might be appropriate.Anxiety, often misunderstood as mere fear, is redefined in our conversation as a spectrum of discomfort triggered by stress hormones. Dr. Aman challenges the misconception of anxiety as a chemical imbalance and talks about the stigma that idea creates. Our discussion also touches on the historical context of anxiety, examining how our biological instincts have evolved to manage stress. In the final segment, we explore the power of community, activities, and genuine human connections in fostering social engagement and mental well-being. Whether through family involvement in communal activities or even community theater, these experiences are pivotal in building a sense of belonging. We also offer actionable tips to guide teenagers towards a path of self-acceptance and agency. To enhance your understanding further, we present a concise guide, accessible on the author's website, filled with practical advice for supporting the teens in your life. Join us as Jodi shares why sensitive people have been overwhelmed this year and two things that you can do to support your nervous system when you are sensitive so that you can serve your clients with a higher vibration. Website: https://jodiaman.com/ ABOUT JODI AMAN Leading groups, workshops and self-study courses My love of helping others to heal started early. From the garden I started when I was 8 years old to the baby ducks I found a home for when I was 10, I have always been passionate about nurturing life. I have also personally felt deep empathy for and understood the complexities of other’s pain as I too have recovered from family chaos and resulting panic attacks. Using this keen understanding of how and why people get stuck, and my unique and varied training and experience I have decided to dedicate my life to helping people find peace of mind and create a life full of vitality. And now, training other therapists and coaches to do the same! Learning how to serve you better... Over the past 25 years, graduating from Columbia University in Social Work and practicing with young parents facing adversity to going into private practice and then teaching Narrative Therapy in Norway, China, Mexico, Australia, Canada, and the US for the Dulwich Centre, I received a unique perspective on the similarities and differences of problems in cultures around the globe. My holistic approach to healing trauma has brought me to work with Sonam Targee on Mindfulness and Ayurveda, Francois Raoult to become a certified Yoga Teacher, then, to Reverend Marcie Seidel to develop my intuition and birth my own body of work. Completing Master Healer and Shapeshifter apprenticeship in 2009 - 2012 with John Perkins and Llyn Roberts, I acquired healing techniques passed to them with the permission to share from Quechua in Ecuador. I am committed to life-long learning and as I am so in love with plants and their role in nourishing, I apprenticed with Susun Weed, as a herbalist and have also added this to the ways I heal and support others. Combining decades of spiritual practice with mentorship from mystic Christina Solaris since 2016, I'm currently being certified in a gnostic teaching that combines western and sidereal astrology, Vedic principles, and communion with Mother Nature through an emergent zodiac called the Omega Codex. You can find my Sparks on the Calm app! Along with my love, three kids, and one Winston, I live in Rochester where we built an environmentally-friendly sacred space, and spend loads of time in my multiplying herb garden and making medicines to share with friends and family. There are many ways to work with me. One-on-one is the fastest to heal so I recommend it for everyone. Consult me! However, if that is out of your price range, my group programs are exceptionally transformative! For an even more modest investment, you can join a self-paced online video or audio course. All of these live inside my online school and community, which is free to join (there are some free courses and videos in there, too!) ======================================================================================================== Thank you for listening to another great episode of She Builds Intimacy With Her Husband Podcast. She'll teach you how to change limiting beliefs, calm life's chaos, create peace and embody happiness in your life.Lightbulb momentAfter a couple of volunteer experiences like a sewing group in a psychiatric hospital, a hotline for latchkey kids, and a holiday program of bringing gifts to people in need and/or bedridden Jodi realized that she wanted to help people for a living. She went to social work school and never looked back.Overcoming life's strugglesAt the age of 5, she learned what death was. This spiraled into decades of anxiety and huge panic attacks. It got so unbearable that it was difficult to even get out of bed some days. She realized that she was not going to be able to live her mission from bed, and knew big changes had to occur.Business lesson learnedIn the beginning, it was difficult to find the perfect fit when it was time to hire and get support. In an interview, I recently hosted with Jodi Aman, a Psychotherapist, Auther and proponent of Happiness - she described a simple formula or definition of Happiness. It goes - Wants - Don't Wants + Practice = Happier. I am sure there is more to this from her research and perspective but I thought in this episode I would share and explore my thoughts on happiness and how this formula may just provide some assistance. I hope you enjoy.

Has anyone ever told you that you are special? Did you know that uniqueness impacts not just the way you think and learn but also how you heal? Dr. James Greenbaltt is here to talk about how your individuality informs both your behaviors and your treatments.
How many times have you said something like this to yourself, or heard someone else say: "I'm just an anxious person by nature, it's all I know", "I've always been anxious about everything in life, I can't ever just relax", or "I was born this way and that's all there is to it". Anxiety can take over your life, and can define how you see yourself if you let it. That's the key right there my friend, "if you let it". Anxiety only has the power that you allow it to have. The sooner we realize and embrace that, the sooner we start to see anxiety for what it is...a liar! My guest on this episode of the Beyond Your Past Podcast is someone who's dedicated their life to helping everyone see anxiety for what it truly is, and overcome it. To empower them with the knowledge that not only is anxiety a liar, but also to equip them with skills to take their life back and live free from the grip of overwhelming anxiety. In her work as a Psychotherapist, Jodi Aman has helped people in the areas of: Anxiety, depression, divorce, chronic pain, illness, eating disorders, abuse trauma, gender identity, relationship issues, as well as military/war trauma. She's also an author of, "You 1 Anxiety 0, Win Your Life Back From Fear and Panic". This incredible resource has helped countless people all over the world realize that there is hope in the fight against anxiety. The main topic of our chat centers around the question of, "is anxiety curable?"...and the short answer is a resounding, YES! I pose that exact question to Jodi and we discuss the 3 reasons why anxiety is indeed curable, and why so many feel that it isn't. We discuss why anxiety keeps us stuck and how we can overcome it. By the way, that's precisely what it wants you to believe, that there is no cure for anxiety and that it's a life sentence of misery, isolation, depression, and living in fear. So why exactly do so many think that there is no cure? Well, one reason is because someone told you that it wasn't, so therefore you believe it. There are some mental health professionals and coaches that believe there is no cure; that you can only work to manage it, but not completely overcome it. If that's your mindset then it becomes exponentially more difficult to try to make any type of positive change. If you feel like there's no hope, no end goal of healing and feeling better, it's very easy to not work as hard or just give up completely. You eventually begin to define yourself in every negative way possible, so therefore trying to embrace any hope of healing is darn near impossible. Then you emotionally beat yourself up because your stuck, miserable, broken and alone. It's a vicious cycle to say the least. Another reason is that it's just so easy to stay still and not even try. We stay isolated and alone at home, seemingly safe from the outside world. We don't go out with friends, we don't embrace and enjoy what life has to offer. We have such a negative view of our ability to cope, that we figure we're better off alone so we don't set ourselves up for more failure. The third reason is that you've tried everything to cure your anxiety and you still don't like yourself. You still don't feel like you've made any progress, like this whole idea of beating anxiety is a pipe dream and you simply aren't capable enough to pull it off. The key here friends is... We cover these 3 reasons more in-depth on the podcast, so you'll definitely want to give it a listen! Plus, we discuss some strategies that you can put in place to help embrace a positive mindset of completely healing from anxiety. Jodi Aman is a lead-by-example teacher. Despite seeing the depths of hell when she was immobilized by panic and anxiety, she clawed her way back to life and taught herself to master happiness. She has been teaching and counseling people around the world for over 20 years, helping them find peace in their lives amid dealing with sadness, loss, anxiety, divorce and other life transitions. As an author and inspirational speaker, she helps audiences make sense of their lives. She shows how to shift thinking, change unwanted situations, and finally stop the out-of-control downward spiral by releasing that internal self-critic. Most self-help authors tell you what to do. Jodi shows you. In this episode, Jodi and Stacy discuss Jodi’s battle with anxiety and how she’s become a happy, successful business owner. Some highlights include: Jodi was a counselor saying the same thing to eight people a day. At minute 2:00, she talks about deciding to take her expertise and turning it into a business that could touch many more people than she already was. “I don’t let things get me down.” At minute 7:00, Jodi talks about why an equal dose of optimism and realism are so important in being a business owner. Don’t hire people who can’t do the job. At minute 9:00, Jodi talks about what she has learned about the hiring process and how she overcame always seeing the best in people. That’s a dangerous practice when it blinds you from seeing the negatives in potential employees. You need to be able to transition from work to home. At minute 16:00, Jodi talks about work-life balance. She believes it exists, but it takes a lot of work. Don’t clutter up your tools. At minute 20:00, Jodi talks about why she only uses a select few tools.
