Robin Wilson has been a defining voice in alternative rock for over three decades as the lead singer of Gin Blossoms. With hits like Hey Jealousy, Found Out About You, and Follow You Down, his music became the soundtrack to a generation that continues to resonate today. But beyond his success with the band, Wilson's journey is filled with incredible stories that span music, pop culture, and personal milestones. In our conversation, he shared memories of meeting his ex-wife on MTV's The Jon Stewart Show and having Jon himself get ordained to officiate their wedding. He also reflected on his experiences at Saturday Night Live, getting to play that stage with a number one single on the radio, meeting and hanging with Phil Hartman, and his life as a father—including watching his son carve out his own path in music. We also covered his Arizona roots, his collaboration with Marshall Crenshaw on the soundtrack to Empire Records his work with The Smithereens, and the thrill of getting to front for KISS. On top of that, he's an avid gamer, something I wasn't expecting, but we do a deep dive into classic and modern games. Whether he's touring, recording, or exploring new creative outlets, Wilson remains as passionate about music as ever. For him, that's what all of this is about. This conversation offered a look at not just an artist, but a storyteller with a career full of unforgettable moments. Enjoy!

This week, the Bayer siblings are thrilled to welcome comedian and fellow Clevelander, Dave Hill to the podcast! They're talking about growing up in the city that rocks, Dave rocking all the way to the stage of the Jon Stewart Show with his band Sons Of Elvis and how this catholic school kid became a force to reckon with in the world of entertainment. We also discuss formative concert experiences—including the Guns 'N Roses show Jonah and Dave both saw in 1991 and the very different takeaways they had due to their relatively minor, but at the time major differences in age. (Spoiler alert: Dave's mom didn't take him to the concert.) Plus, we potentially make some headway in the mystery of whether Jewel played at a beloved coffee shop in Cleveland? Finally, in a rousing game of CHANGE.DORK, the three of us debate the merits of Dave getting let back on Twitter, a Cleveland NHL expansion and should Jacob grow a Tony Iommi style mustache? Should Dave grow one? You'll have to listen to find out!See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

To celebrate the commencement of 2024, we thought we'd watch a YouTube clip from the mid 90s and dedicate an entire podcast episode to it. Very normal behaviour. This week, we watched "John Leguizamo Interview On The Jon Stewart Show (June 18 1995)" which is a YouTube clip starring the man this podcast is all about. In this interview, he talks about his role on Die Hard 2, and he also shows his bottom. This clip also includes the original ad break during the 1995 interview which was a strange and nostalgic treat. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Joined today by runner, journalist and New York Times Best Selling Author, Christopher McDougall. Chris talks about growing up in Philly, moving out to Lancaster and then settling down in Hawaii. Chris tells me how he was recruited for crew during his basketball practice and how he parlayed that into rowing for Harvard. We hear how as a failed High School English teacher, he decided to backpack through Europe and before he knew it he was the Associated Press‘ war correspondent in Angola and the Congo. Chris and I open up about the importance of not holding in your feelings and what he saw in Rwanda that made him come back home to the States. We hear how a writing assignment about a Mexican pop star turned into him being immersed in the Tarahumara Tribe and eventually witnessing "The Greatest Race the World Has Ever Seen". As a first time author, Chris recalls checking the reviews on the book, how he starting selling the books himself and how he got booked on the Jon Stewart Show. Chris talks about his newest books "Born to Run 2: The Ultimate Running Training Guide", what we should expect with this sequel book and why every runner needs to get this book. I deep dive into the aspects of Chris' writing: how it was collaborating on this book with Eric Orton, adding sneaker and scientific talk smack in the middle of Born to Run, and the difficulty of writing about himself as the main character. From texting with Rick Rubin, running with the Amish, and just a great conversation with the voice of running, Christopher McDougall. Gail Greenwood passes along a bass playing technique that she learned from record producer, Glyn Johns, that he originally learned from Bill Wyman of The Rolling Stones... which I have to say is pretty cool and she also shares an often overlooked way to interact with the world. Since Belly has done quite a few television performances over the years on shows such as The Late Show with David Letterman, Late Night with Conon O'Brien and The Jon Stewart Show... I wanted to include a song from one of these performances to share this part of their career. At end of this bonus episode is Belly's song "Red" recorded in June of 1995 on The Jon Stewart Show (video credit: What's for afters?) for you all to enjoy! // Interview recorded November 16th, 2020 via Zoom// Intro music by Cedros// Hosted by James Toomey // /// If you enjoy the episode please leave a rating or review wherever you're listening right now! ///

JULY 15, 2017 - BUH-DUN-DUN-DUH-NUH! From the Comedy News Headquarters on the Internet, it's THE DAILY SHOW WEEKLY, hosted by Vic Shuttee and Chandler Dean. In a tumultuous first season of Jon Stewart’s Daily Show, there have been high highs and low lows. After Rich Brown’s reign of terror, it seemed pretty clear that the gang was content to spin wheels until the new millennium, offering up clip shows, sequels and garbage ala cart. Then out of nowhere: an amazing week of moments like this. We’ve got interviews with John McCain in the spin room, Steve Carell fighting with George Stephanopoulos, Paul Rudd in full Jon Stewart Show regalia, the debut of correspondent Nancy Walls, and Jon finding his unknown talent to hold a normal conversation for longer than 4 minutes with the watershed two-parter with Senator Bob Dole! Also, Rob Schneider shows up. Eh, what are you gonna do? Still, perhaps the best week of TDS yet? Only time will tell if Just Barely Television is an era of hope or disappointment. The Daily Show Weekly is an unofficial fan podcast designed to serve as a critical companion to the original series, which can be watched in clips at CC.com. Our thoughts and criticism are intended to offer historical reflection and enhance the viewing experience for new and old fans journeying through Jon Stewart’s seminal talk show run. Our awesome album artwork is designed by Felipe Flores Comics!
