Today I'm speaking with Sarah Lawrance, Founder & CEO of Hot Toast. In this episode, we talk about . . . - Sarah Lawrance shares her journey from childhood fascination with business to becoming a Certified Practicing Accountant (CPA) and founding her firm Hot Toast - Lawrance discusses her formative career experiences in Australia, London and fast-growth startups, and the inspiration for starting her own business - Sarah describes her role as a CFO for rapidly growing businesses, helping clients scale through advisory services, reporting, and finance team development - Sarah integrates technologies like G-Accon and SYFT to deliver data insights, and sees opportunities in AI and machine learning "I'm a big fan of G-Accon. I really love that tool. It's such a beautiful little connector that we pull lots of data out. We use it with Google Sheets. The creatives love Google Sheets, and they love zeros. So to be able to just link those two up and then kind of manipulate those into our own kind of models is a massive win for us." - When she could not find an age appropriate soccer club, she started her own women's soccer team. The team has since expanded to over 100 members in the eastern suburbs of Sydney.- Frustrated by a lack of female board opportunities she co-founded the Global Women's Accounting Influencers community - The conversation covers mentoring the next generation, leveraging networks, and the power of community in the accounting industry Contact details: Sarah Lawrance https://www.linkedin.com/in/sarah-lawrance-fcpa-83894516/ Hot Toast : https://hottoast.com.au/ Accounting Apps newsletter: http://HeatherSmithAU.COM Accounting Apps Mastermind: https://www.facebook.com/groups/XeroMasterMind LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/HeatherSmithAU/ YouTube Channel: https://www.youtube.com/ANISEConsulting X: https://twitter.com/HeatherSmithAU

Consistently armed with a wink and a ravishing riff, Northern Rivers quartet Hammers are the quintessential Aussie band with just enough grit to set them apart from your average pub rocker. Solidifying their current lineup a few years back with vocalist Leigh 'Fish' Downling, bassist Ricky T, guitarist and vocalist Lucas Stone and drummer Ryan 'Ruckus' Lucas, the evolution from stoner rock-tinged blues, metal and punk into an amalgamation of Every Time I Die mixed with The Bronx, He Is Legend and a tantalising Aussie twist has seen the group become a sturdy fixture in festival and headline capacities. Releasing their debut EP Homeblokes back in 2018, Hammers have since gone on to score a nomination for Best Video at the Gold Coast Music Awards for their https://youtu.be/gpVv-L1htn8 (Dead Set) clip, drop a B-side Pocket Soup in 2019 before kicking sonic goals with their 2020 sophomore EP; the aptly titled Kicking Goals. Releasing in August of 2020 while the world was steadily going mad, the ongoing plans to finally tour their latest EP hit significant snags, but the band still persevered to bring their raucous live show to the masses, including recent appearances at Blacken Open Air and Wallapalooza. And now, over two years since the release of Kicking Goals, the band have finally laid down concrete plans to bring it on home for Kicking Goals, with seven dates lined up into November in Tasmania, the Gold Coast, Sunbury, Melbourne, Brisbane and Sydney for the official Try Again Tour. With mini-festivals, house parties and hometown shows on the horizon, what better time to grab Hammers axe king Lucas Stone for a chat. From live show memories to the Hammers secret sauce, plenty of "kicking puns" (my bad) and some insight into the current state of the music industry, grab a listen to Lucas joining host Tiana Speter on the latest episode of The Soundcheck's podcast Behind The Soundcheck. Tickets for The Try Again tour are live right now: http://beatscartel.com/showtickets (beatscartel.com/showtickets). IN THIS EPISODE: How Hammers are feeling in the lead up to their The Try Again Tour. The making of their 2020 EP Kicking Goals; creative goals, growing as a band and galvanising the Hammers sound. Some of the real life and reality-adjacent tales behind tracks on Kicking Goals. What fans can expect from the upcoming Hammers shows, including some of Stoney's key highlights that he's looking forward to most. How Hammers get "gig fit" and the secret behind their front-facing camaraderie. Hammers' ongoing attempts to tour amid the pandemic, and rediscovering their passion amongst the hurdles. What makes a Hammers live show moment particularly memorable after all this time, and the invigorating experience that was Blacken Open Air 2022. Stoney's personal musical influences that have played major roles in who he is a musician today, his creative signature and some of the common threads between his four major musical projects. What music Hammers collectively love, and Stoney's role in having Cardi B as the Hammers walk on song of late. Stoney's take on the current state of the music industry and Australian music community, and the ways punters can help artists. Have you ever set yourself a crazy big hairy audacious goal, and found yourself against the odds somehow achieving it? Women climb invisible mountains every day. But Laura Youngson's eureka moment came on a volcanic ash pitch, 5,714 metres above sea level, on Tanzania's Mount Kilimanjaro in June 2017. Youngson, an ambitious entrepreneur, gender activist and Co-Founder of global non-profit Equal Playing Field and Ida Sports, had a crazy idea that if she could convince two teams of female soccer players from 20 countries to join her on an expedition up a mountain to set the Guinness World Record for the highest altitude game of soccer ever played, they could literally change the game for women and girls the world over. The record made news across the planet, and set Laura on a path she could never have foreseen. This is a conversation about what happened next, about change, showing up, and how it’s mostly the failures that shape us and make us. Laura shares with us the shadow side of striving, the relentless juggle of businesses and babies, and that if we can each just summit the limits we impose on ourselves, women and girls can do anything they put their minds to. American lawyer Peggy O'Neal might lead a team of Tigers, but it's rare to hear her roar. Although you might have heard an enthusiastic “whoop!” or three when her team won those Australian Football League grand finals! That unflappable pragmatism is something the president of Richmond Football Club learned growing up in the Appalachian Mountains of West Virginia, USA. Peggy has seen off leadership coups, helped break a 37-year-premiership drought for her beloved Richmond Tigers, and given her all to help pull her football team back from the brink of financial ruin to a fiscally healthy club. All the while, she's been helping to build a community around her from the ground up. Peggy O'Neal is the quieter kind of leader whose process-driven results (ahem, three premiership flags in four years) leave a legacy as strong as those community foundations. You could put that down to her upbringing, or you could put it down to Peggy herself – a whip-smart, humble ‘doer' - the opposite of the outspoken, opinionated football president archetype you usually see dominating the media. +++ Curveball is a production of Deadset Studios. This one's been a little delayed after a technical glitch destroyed our first recording, but the second time around was even bigger and better PLUS conveniently timed after both Steph and Laura's partners proposed!!!!!! If you haven't heard of this dynamic duo, Steph and Laura are passionate advocates for instilling confidence in young women and are helping thousands of girls around the world with their booming business, Keep It Cleaner, that has a fitness and nutrition app, a delicious grocery range, an inspiring blog and community events throughout the year. Both starting out as successful international models, Steph and Laura have openly shared their experiences and challenges in the modelling industry, finding body confidence, navigating their relationship with food and building resilience to inspire other young women on their journey. If that weren't enough, Steph also co-owns Soda Shades and Midnight Co as well as continuing her career as a sought after model and brand ambassador for the likes of Bondi Sands, Bras N Things, and more leveraging her 1 million+ followers. Laura is also completing her Law/Business degree (just casually) and has some epic brand ambassadorships of her own, particularly as face of Jaggad activewear. "We're gonna do what we always do, but we have a new - to you guys anyway - record that we put out since we have been there last", enthused Al Barr, lead vocalist for Dropkick Murphys ahead of their December appearance at the Good Things festival. "We haven't been to Australia in five years so we're excited to play some of the new songs for people down there. We're all music fans ourselves so we don't just play the new stuff, we'll play the older songs as well".In the full interview Al discusses Good Things more from an artists perspective, the early days of the band, the blending of punk and celtic music that has been the cornerstone of their sound, using music as a powerful tool, new music and more.

Fast forward to 2018 and we were excited to hear from the Melbournian again, this time informing us that she has found a love for county music and has released her debut EP. This ultimately led her to major in Music Technology at university, where she affectionately became known as "Asian Taylor Swift". It was in her final year at university that Olivia started working on her debut EP, which is due late 2018. The first single from her debut EP "Kiss Me" is out now and it has also been added to the Asian Pop Radio 24/7 radio stream.
