Slovenska književnost ne premore pravih vohunskih romanov; kriminalk je vse več, a zgodb o akcijah prikritih obveščevalcev komaj kaj, pa še ti se ne prilegajo povsem modelom žanra. Če v priložnostni pregled zadnjih let zajamemo nekaj primerov knjig s tovrstno tematiko – na primer Pod krinko Vladimirja Vauhnika, že v naslovu ironičnega Vohuna Iztoka Osojnika ali serijo knjig Jureta Godlerja o nezgodah agentskega para – lahko zaključimo, da so to bodisi dokumentirane biografije bodisi kritike vsega obstoječega bodisi nekake bondiade v zabavljaški maniri. Seveda ni v njih nič manj pomembnega, tudi slovenske kriminalke so se šele pred pol stoletja izvijale iz senc klasikov žanra s parodiranjem, zakaj pa ne, saj se je s parodijo celo začel moderni roman. A tako kot se klišejem detektivk prilegajo žrtve in morilci ter logične razlage morov s kazenskimi konci, se tudi zgodbe z vohuni razvijajo po lastnih kalupih. Prvenstveno britanski imperialistični teksti, porojeni v prejšnjem stoletju in precej razširjeni v hladni vojni, so nastavili dominante tovrstnega pisanja, od katerih sta najbolj pogosta in zanimiva navezava na aktualno geopolitiko in problem identitete književnih junakov. Slednja je praviloma pogubna predvsem za ljudi, ki so pripravljeni ubijati za dve ali tri nasprotne strani, manj tragična pa najbrž za tiste, ki to počnejo rutinsko za vse mogoče naročnike in dobre plačnike. Dandanes, ko se tragičnost porazgublja med avtomatizirano banalnostjo zla, vohunstvo vsekakor žvižga okoli ušes in vara poglede tudi v najnovejših planetarnih razmerjih, in sicer zelo neslišno in nevidno s sofisticirano digitalno tehnologijo. Roman Mihe Lamprehta Vrij ni eksplicitno roman o vohunstvu, a je v njem mogoče zaznati vseprisotnost obveščevalnih dejavnosti. Boj za informacije in manipulacije z njimi je motivno gonilo v obeh narativnih linijah, ki jo vsevedni pripovedovalec vleče vzporedno in s tem spretno vzbuja bralno radovednost, kaj ju bo kdaj združilo. V eni ruski FSB in izraelski Mosad na preži za pretoki zlata, ki so ga nacisti izpulili pomorjenim Judom, naletita na par dedičev iz teh virov, zato pošljeta na teren konkurenčne profesionalce; v drugi sibirski oligarh kriminalno diktira posle ob veliki mednarodni investiciji v medicinski center v daljni Jakutiji; oba dogajalna tokova pa se stekata v evropski, v glavnem v švicarski in lichensteinski bančni sistem. Lamprehta za poznavanje ruskega miljeja zgodbe avtorizira dolgoletno novinarsko delo, še posebej sedemletna službena izkušnja z dopisništvom iz Moskve, ne nazadnje tudi predlani izdana knjiga komentarjev z naslovom Kratka zgodovina vojne v Ukrajini, kot prevajalec pa je podpisan pod nekaj knjig ruskih piscev. In to ni edina vednost, ki veje iz tega skrbno premišljenega in izpeljanega besedila, saj je v vsakem od triinštiridesetih poglavij mogoče zaznati avtorjevo splošno družboslovno in strokovno širino, najsi piše o zapletenem poslovanju bank in mimogrede omenja znamke švicarskih ur ali o zasebnih letalih, razlaga vrij in kriminalno uporabo kriše in kompromata ali posreduje dejstvo, da je staro pohištvo najbolje osvežiti z lanenim oljem … Pozornost vzbujajo deli, v katerih se eden od protagonistov – teh je v prepletanju zgodb pač več – sooča z izzivi alpinističnega plezanja, pa tisti, v katerih pisec z esejističnimi vstavki niza okrutna zgodovinska dejstva ali predstavlja prakse vzhodnjaške duhovnosti. Vpliv poročevalskega stila na avtorjevo pripovedništvo je zaznaven v prvi četrtini besedila, nato pa se pojavijo prvi dialogi in v nadaljevanju jedrnato in učinkovito pospešujejo dogajanje. Iz razgibanega dogajanja izstopajo asociativni deli kot dokazi o jezikovni moči pisca, ki se je po desetletjih posvečanja publicistiki namenil izraziti literarno; tak je na primer notranji monolog književne osebe, sestavljen iz domala samih enobesednih stavkov. Ali pa retorično učinkovit seznam različnih eksistencialnih položajev ljudi, ko presenečeni ugotovijo, da imajo v posesti enormne količine denarja. Nekateri »… bi premoženje razpršili, en del bi dali v dobrodelne namene, en del bi porabili, en del varno naložili. Nekateri bi vse dali Cerkvi, nekateri bi odpotovali na pot okoli sveta, nekateri bi se prijavili v vrsto za komercialni polet v vesolje, spet drugi bi kupili podjetje, tretji bi v mondenem kraju začeli novo življenje, nekateri bi kupili ali ustanovili svoj športni klub, nekateri bi kupili nove priležnice, ljubice in nove prijatelje …« In tako naprej, pisateljev seznam odzivov na bogastvo se nadaljuje na dveh straneh; tako kot tudi na nekem drugem mestu podobno naštevanje načel, po katerih vsak človek »kreira svoje načrte, poti in načine življenja«. »Svojim ambicijam in notranjemu glasu« sledijo tudi književne osebe Vrija: Luboš Stibarek, Hannah Lippmann, Hana Zavoral, Reiner Kral, Franz Verhoven, Vadim Petrof, Kyla Sanders alias Cveta Pesek, Rovilij Maratov, Musa Gabajev, Bondarenko in drugi, nujni za vézenje sižeja, od direktorjev korporacij do operativcev tajnih agencij ... Vsi ti s svojo številnostjo ne onemogočajo preglednosti dogajanja; vsak značaj je v svojevrstni situaciji zgoščeno podan z družbenim položajem in iz njega izhajajočo psihološko verjetnostjo. A vsi, se zdi, delujejo v nečem, kar jih presega kot skrivnost, naključje, usoda ali inteligenca Drugega … John La Carré je nekoč izjavil: »Vohunska zgodba ni nikoli zgolj vohunska zgodba.« Poleg ogledala svetovnemu dogajanju namreč ponuja še pogled v kompleksnost človekovih ključnih odločitev. Te je že Tajni agent Josepha Conrada prikazal kot sile, ki pronicajo globoko v intimno tkivo na tragičen način, s katerim se ne morejo ponašati kateri drugi tipi proze. A sporočilo iz Lamprehtovega prikaza sveta kljub v njem pomorjenim in ubitim likom ni pesimistično, saj vsebuje verjetje v obstoj osnovnih človekovih vrednot, četudi so te nenehno ogrožane. Na platnice je urednik knjige Boštjan Narat Meden zapisal, da je Vrij »roman o ljudeh, ki v ekstremnih okoliščinah vzamejo krmilo v svoje roke, pri čemer ne vedo, če krmilni sistem sploh še deluje. Od spretnega manevra do katastrofe je samo korak.« In morda res v svetu, kjer nič ni takšno, kot je, ker se takšno samo zdi, umetniško pisanje pove o njegovem realnem stanju paradoksalno več kot sicer hvalevredno raziskovalno novinarstvo. Stvarno komunikativen in etično dognan roman Mihe Lamprehta Vrij napeljuje na razmislek o tem, kako so lahko krhki ljudje, izpostavljeni grozljivostim sodobnosti, sposobni za pogumna dejanja, čeprav je njihov življenjski kredo le naivna poštenost. »Z vso enostavnostjo. Predvidljivostjo. Natančnostjo. In lepoto. In mogočnostjo.« In kot dodaja avtor zadnjih stavkih svojega odličnega leposlovnega prvenca: »Na linearni premici časa dogodki tečejo samo naprej. Kencan Dengan Tuhan - Selasa, 5 Agustus 2025Bacaan: "Karena Tuhan memberi ajaran kepada yang dikasihi Nya, seperti ayah kepada anak yang disayangi." (Amsal 3:12)Renungan: Orang tua di dunia ini tidak satupun yang menginginkan anak-anaknya menjadi orang yang gagal atau menderita di kemudian hari. Semuanya berharap anak-anaknya menjadi orang yang berhasil dalam studi, karir dan juga rumah tangga. Itulah sebabnya orang tua selalu berusaha memberikan yang terbaik bagi anak-anaknya, bahkan mereka pun rela mengorbankan apa saja demi anak. Kasih, perhatian, perlindungan dan terkadang juga teguran diberikan orang tua kepada anak. Dalam kehidupan rohani, Tuhan pun bertindak demikian. Di satu sisi Tuhan senantiasa melimpahkan kasih, kemurahan, pemeliharaan, penyertaan dan pertolongan kepada kita; di sisi lain Dia juga akan memberikan teguran atau hajaran kepada kita bila kita melakukan pelanggaran atau dosa di hadapan-Nya. Tujuan teguran itu adalah agar kita menjadi jera dan tidak lagi mengulangi kesalahan sehingga kita dapat bertumbuh ke arah yang benar sesuai dengan kehendak-Nya. Teguran Tuhan kepada kita terkadang dapat berupa masalah atau persoalan: sakit penyakit, krisis keuangan, masalah keluarga dan sebagainya. Tuhan mengizinkan hal itu terjadi agar kita segera menyadari kesalahan dan berbalik ke jalan-Nya yang benar. Oleh karena itu, "...janganlah engkau menolak didikan Tuhan dan janganlah engkau bosan akan peringatanNya." (Amsal 3:11). Daud pernah melakukan pelanggaran besar di hadapan Tuhan. Ia berzinah dengan Batsyeba. Kemudian Tuhan memakai Natan untuk menegur Daud. Akhirnya Daud pun menyesal dan bertobat. Natanpun berkata kepada Daud: "Tuhan telah menjauhkan dosamu itu: engkau tidak akan mati. Walaupun demikian, karena engkau dengan perbuatan ini telah sangat menistai Tuhan, pastilah anak yang lahir bagimu itu akan mati." (2 Samuel 12:13-14). Kunci utama ketika kita menerima teguran dari Tuhan adalah bertobat. Pengakuan diri bahwa kita telah melakukan dosa di hadapan Tuhan itu sangat penting, dan itu adalah kunci untuk mengalami pemulihan dan berkat dari Tuhan. Jadi bila kita mendapat teguran dari Tuhan, jangan menjadi kecewa atau marah. Ini artinya Tuhan sangat mengasihi kita, "Jika kamu harus menanggung ganjaran: Allah memperlakukan kamu sebagai anak. Di manakah terdapat anak yang tidak dihajar oleh ayahnya?" (Ibrani 12:7). Tuhan Yesus memberkati.Doa:Tuhan Yesus, terima kasih atas peristiwa-peristiwa yang terjadi dalam hidupku, baik yang menyenangkan maupun yang menyedihkan. Aku bersyukur karena Engkau mengangkat aku sebagai anak-Mu. Kini aku menyadari bahwa sebagai seorang anak, aku harus senantiasa taat dan setia pada-Mu. Engkau tidak menghendaki aku jauh dan lari dari jalan-Mu. Maka terkadang ada hal-hal yang mungkin tidak kusukai terjadi dalam hidupku, yang kupercaya itu adalah teguran-Mu untukku agar aku tidak salah dalam melangkah. Amin. (Dod).

Andrej Blatnik je prozi, esejistiki, uredniškim projektom ter profesorskemu ukvarjanju s knjigami in založništvom v novi knjigi Besedi na sledi dodal še potopisni pečat. Natančneje, pečat posebne podvrste potopisja, ki ga nič manj kot odkrivanje novih svetov navdihuje sledenje starim, zavrženim, pozabljenim knjigam. S svojim zapisom o doživljanju Indije, ki ga od leta 2006 naprej z udeleževanjem na literarnih festivalih in drugih pisateljskih srečanjih ni več izpustila iz objema, je tokrat pridružil še križarjenja v zadnjih treh letih po jugovzhodni Aziji. Od Vietnama in Laosa prek Tajske, Kambodže in Singapurja do Balija. Potem ko je na prvih potovanjih še sledil napotkom priročnikov Lonely Planet in si od blizu ogledal in okusil vse, kar so priporočali, se je sčasoma prelevil v bolj zahtevnega popotnika in iskalca, strastnega lovca na knjige. Rdeča nit njegovih že doma skrbno pripravljenih poti je namreč postalo izmenjevanje in kupovanje rabljenih, zavrženih, odpisanih, s prstnimi odtisi označenih knjig, za kakršne v velikih knjigotrških mrežah ni prostora. Torej bolj ali manj zdelanih izvirno angleških ali v angleščino prevedenih izdaj, ki se jih z nekaj sreče najde le na policah zasebnih knjigarnic, kavarn in drugih težko izsledljivih neobičajnih srečevališč, nad katerimi bdijo prav tako neobičajne sorodne duše. Blatnik pri njih vzame iz nahrbtnika knjige, ki jih je prinesel s seboj, in jih s premislekom zamenja za druge, ki bi jih bilo vredno prebrati, kakšno morda tudi izdati v slovenščini. Sam, analogni neprilagojenec, kot si pravi, nekoliko zadržano uporablja tudi elektronsko branje, ki pa se mu »še zmeraj in tudi zmeraj bolj zdi preplitvo …« Kljub temu ima pri sebi tablico, polno knjig, ki jih hočeš nočeš mora prebrati, in da lahko na njej spotoma napiše kakšno zgodbo ali novo poglavje nove knjige. Na svojih raziskovalnih poteh je Blatnik sam, tu in tam tudi v dvoje, videl in doživel marsikaj, za kar množici drugih bolj vodljivih turistov zmanjka radovednosti in poguma. Spoznal ter brez idealiziranja in moraliziranja je sprejel številne obraze in šege indijske podceline in jugovzhodne Azije, ki jih spletni in žepni popotni priročniki puščajo ob strani. Prebival je v imenitnih hotelih in improviziranih bivakih ter za premagovanje razdalj uporabljal vse vrste modernih in tradicionalnih prevoznih sredstev po zraku, na kopnem in v vodi. Kjer je bilo mogoče, se je kot zaprisežen kolesar zavihtel na kolo ali, če ni bilo drugače, več ur pešačil do izbranih ciljev. Nemalokdaj zaman, saj prostora s knjižno ponudbo, kamor se je vračal vrsto let, ni bilo več tam. Toliko bolj pa se razveseli naključno odkritih kotičkov s knjigami, za katere prej ni vedel. Razočaranja se izmenjujejo s presenečenji. Ko na primer v singapurski podružnici japonske verige Kinokuniya naleti na angleško izdajo svoje knjige Saj razumeš?. »Morda majhna reč za človeštvo, a velika zame,« parafrazira astronavta Neila Armstronga. Prav tako ga navduši, ko v odročnih knjižnih jazbinah odkriva dela drugih slovenskih piscev, v Luang Pragangu na Tajskem pa vzame v roke od vlage načeti brezplačnik Ljubljana in Your Pocket, ki je tja priromal še pred korono. Vsaka zanimiva najdba ga razveseli in vedno pogosteje postavi tudi pred vprašanje, ali ga morda bolj kot iskanje knjig – saj še domače razdaja – privlačijo knjigarne in ljudje v njih, da mu povedo svoje usode, ki so jih zadržale pri knjigah. Ob knjigah in njihovih nenavadnih nahajališčih Andrej Blatnik v knjigi Besedi na sledi največ pozornosti namenja hrani. V Bangkoku, kjer je bil, kot pravi, najbrž vsaj tolikokrat kot v Frankfurtu na vsakoletnih knjižnih sejmih, še posebno obžaluje resno hibo razvoja tehnologije, ki ne omogoča, da bi na potovanjih – tako kot s snemalnimi napravami hranimo slike in zvoke – shranjevali tudi okuse. Na primer prefinjene razlike med neštetimi različicami tajskih in drugih azijskih karijev. Obenem ga žalosti, da prav tako kot knjigarne tudi tradicionalne gostilnice tiho zapirajo vrata. Če že skupaj s stavbami, v katerih so delovale, ne izginejo brez sledu, se v njihovih nekdanjih prostorih pogosto spremeni ponudba, ki novim lastnikom omogoča preživetje. V Ubudu na Baliju, je Blatnik sklenil še pred nekaj meseci, se bo pač treba navaditi na razkošne vile ruskih mogotcev in butike na nekdaj vaški ulici. Tako kot so se jih morali navaditi domačini, saj živijo od turizma. Da bi v vsej tej raznolikosti preživela knjigarna Ganesha, si še zaželi pred slovesom, da bi prihodnjič v njej morda kaj kupil!

Ze tekende zijn verzwegen levensverhaal op in het boek ‘Vader zoeken' en is te gast.  (13:47) Marianne reist naar New Orleans, waar de reünie van de laatste Iwo Jima veteranen plaatsvindt. Ze spreekt af met twee stokoude mariniers, in een poging dichter bij de oorlogservaring van haar opa te komen. De mannen vertellen emotioneel over de gruwelen die ze hebben meegemaakt. Marianne toont hen ook de foto's van de Amerikaanse soldaten in de Japanse bordelen. Hoe reageren ze daarop? En zou Bruce de foto's hebben verstopt voor het leger, om censuur te voorkomen?  Operatie onthechting  Kunstenaar Marianne Ingleby erft het fotoarchief van haar opa Bruce Elkus, Amerikaans legerfotograaf. In 1944 vertrok hij naar het Japanse eiland Iwo Jima, bekend van een van de bloedigste slagen van de Tweede Wereldoorlog.  Als Marianne na zijn dood door de foto's gaat stuit ze op gruwelijke beelden: soldaten met weggeblazen ledematen, een Japanse schedel op een stok als oorlogstrofee en naakte vrouwen met dronken Amerikanen in bordelen. De foto's blijken destijds nooit gepubliceerd: te ontluisterend. Liever keek men naar de wereldberoemde heroïsche foto 'Raising the Flag on Iwo Jima', hét symbool van de Amerikaanse overwinning in de Pacific.  Marianne blijkt goud in handen te hebben met het zeldzame foto-archief. Ze is benieuwd naar de ervaringen van haar eigenzinnige opa, die naast honderden foto's ook aangrijpende brieven vanaf het front naliet. Wat heeft hij meegemaakt aan het front? Waarom maakte hij foto's buiten zijn opdracht? Welke herinneringen roepen ze op bij de Amerikaanse veteranen? One evening, two weeks ago, Natan Mwanza was stabbed and killed at a bus stop in Melbourne’s south-west. He was 24 years old. Natan’s family had migrated to Australia from the Democratic Republic of Congo in 2008, and his death sparked an outpouring of grief from African diasporic communities in Australia. Historian and filmmaker Santilla Chingaipe also felt the impact of Natan’s death and sought to understand what had happened. But it soon became a story about how we write and report on crime – and how Black lives are treated in the media. Antisemitism and assimilation are threatening the Jewish People, says Natan Sharansky, but to both Israel offers a solution.Born in the Soviet Union and imprisoned by the authorities when trying to immigrate to Israel, Sharansky experienced brutal interrogations, forced feedings, and torture — sparking international campaigns to fight for his freedom in 1986. Today, Natan is Chairman for the Institute for the Study of Global Antisemitism and Policy and has an extensive record as a human rights activist, Israeli politician, and advocate for the Jewish People. He had great success in business, but he always said that his biggest success was his family."  Rabbi Yehuda ruled in the Mishna that if two people were related by marriage and the marriage ended, but there were children from that marriage, they are still considered relatives. Do we follow Rabbi Yehuda's ruling? Rabbi Yehuda also ruled that a close friend is disqualified from being a witness. However, the rabbis clarify that this only applies to a friend from the wedding party, and only during the week of the wedding or perhaps only on the wedding day itself. Rabbi Yehuda's ruling that a close friend or enemy is disqualified from testifying is derived from Numbers 35:23. The Mishna outlines court procedures: First, witnesses are warned to tell the truth, then they are questioned separately. In monetary cases, only designated witnesses can testify. After a majority decision is reached, it is forbidden for a judge to leave court and reveal that they disagreed with the ruling, wanting to acquit when others voted to convict, as this constitutes rechilut (gossip), a form of lashon hara (harmful speech). What warning is given to witnesses to ensure truthful testimony? Rav Yehuda, Rava, and Rav Ashi each propose different warnings, with each successive suggestion addressing perceived flaws in the previous ones. The Mishna supports Rav Yehuda's position that borrowers must formally designate witnesses. If undesignated witnesses hear a borrower's admission of debt, the borrower can claim it was said in jest. However, if the borrower denies making any admission and witnesses testify otherwise, Abaye rules that the admission is valid and the debt must be repaid. Rav Papa son of Rav Acha bar Ada quoting Rava disagrees, arguing that the borrower might have been joking and forgotten about it, since people typically don't remember trivial interactions. Another way to invalidate an admission is to claim it was made only to appear less wealthy. Can this argument be applied to deathbed statements? Do we assume that someone on their deathbed would want their children to appear less wealthy, or does this concern only apply to protecting oneself? Under what circumstances can witnesses document an admission? For loans, documenting creates a lien on the borrower's property. Therefore, documentation is permissible only when this was clearly the creditor's intention.
