Today is the 100th episode of "Taking the Helm" with host Lynn McLaughlin. The show features inspiring, courageous and honest guests who have faced a crisis in their lives or businesses, yet set new sails! "When I started eating the same way she was, I started to feel better, but I didn't even know that I wasn't feeling great." - Kiran Deol The amazing Kiran Deol joins me for today's episode. She's a holistic nutritionist and CEO of Key to Health Nutrition Consulting. Kiran advocates for childhood nutrition after discovering that her own daughter's health was suffering. Kiran made changes to her own diet as well and noticed an improvement in her overall health, including increased energy levels and decreased brain fog. In this episode, you'll be learning about:
Does this sound like you? You feel like you're not doing anything right to help your child. If so, then this conversation with Tori Henderson is dedicated to giving you some solutions! In this episode, you will learn the difference between rescuing and accommodating your children, and how each can affect the parent-child relationship. Tori Henderson is a breast cancer survivor, host of the podcast Super Mom is Getting Tired, and a life coach, teacher, and parent educator. She joins Lynn McLaughlin to discuss the challenges of parenting, specifically around teenage years and anxiety. They discuss the line between rescuing and accommodating children, and how to find a balance that works for both parent and child.. Key Takeaways from our conversation:
Did you know your thoughts have powers? What if you could teach your kids that in a fun loving game kind of way? Well now you can. Today's guest is Lynn McLaughlin, As an educator and parent, Lynn is passionate about children's mental health. Lynn speaks openly about her role in enabling one of her children who struggled with debilitating anxiety. She and her niece Amber Raymond, a Social Worker, have joined forces to publish a children's book series titled, "The Power of Thought" where children beam off to an imaginary planet to learn how to manage their emotions in a positive way. Her advice for single parents: Listen with the intent of understanding. Children's behaviors stem from a cause. If I could turn back time, I wouldn't be the parent flying in to solve the problem, to make things right. When my daughter was volatile, I wanted to calm the situation but it did not serve her well. If we can understand why our children feel a certain way, we can then give them the tools to deal with their own emotions in a positive way. With conversations about mental health on the rise, it's incredibly important that we start helping our children learn how to recognize their emotions early in life.In fact, according to the National Institutes of Health, nearly 1 in 3 of all adolescents ages 13 to 18 will experience an anxiety disorder. That number is just staggering, and the trend has been on the rise for a while, so it's up to us parents to give our children - and ourselves the tools to help us cope. That's why I am thrilled to have my two guests on the podcast this week - that's right…not just one expert, but TWO!Lynn McLaughlin is a proud mother of three adult children.
