Pennsylvania Judge Accused of Shooting Ex-Boyfriend in the Face

Pennsylvania prosecutors have leveled serious accusations against a Democratic judge, alleging that she shot her sleeping ex-boyfriend in the face following their breakup and his request for her to vacate his apartment. Embattled Judge Sonya McKnight faces charges of attempted murder and aggravated assault after authorities discovered gunshot residue on her hands, according to reports. "The bullet entered the right side of the victim's face, traversed through his head in a straight line behind and slightly below his eyes, and exited the left side of his face," stated the Cumberland County District Attorney Sean McCormack's office, highlighting the severity of the incident. "The victim survived the gunshot wound but is blind in one eye as a result." The victim, identified as 54-year-old Michael McCoy, had reportedly ended his relationship with McKnight and repeatedly urged her to leave his residence, as detailed in an arrest affidavit. However, on February 9, upon returning home from a restaurant, he found McKnight on his couch in pajamas. Following a confrontation where McCoy reiterated his demand for her to leave, he went to bed. He later awoke to intense pain and blindness, allegedly finding McKnight beside him, asking, "Mike, what did you do to yourself?" McKnight purportedly called emergency services around 1 a.m., claiming she was sleeping and heard McCoy scream, unable to provide further explanation. However, McCoy informed authorities he did not inflict the gunshot wound upon himself. In response, McKnight's attorney, Cory Leshner, stated that his client denies firing the gun and anticipates exoneration. Nevertheless, legal experts like David Gelman, a defense attorney uninvolved in the case, question the plausibility of McKnight's defense given the evidence. "The investigation is probably going to show that it would have been impossible for him to shoot himself in the eye at that particular angle," said David Gelman, a New Jersey-based defense attorney and former prosecutor who has no connection to the case. "How are you going to prove it when you have the gunshot residue on your hands?" Doorbell footage from neighboring homes reportedly contradicts elements of McKnight's account, further complicating the investigation. The incident also casts a shadow over McKnight's past involvement in a 2019 shooting of her estranged husband, reportedly in self-defense. Despite previous legal clearance, scrutiny surrounding this event resurfaces in light of recent accusations. McKnight, who won her judgeship in 2015, has been suspended over unrelated ethics violations and corruption allegations since November.  In a flyer for her 2021 re-election campaign, slogans included "advocate for second changes" and claimed she "fights for justice and fairness." She avoided conviction for allegedly intervening in a traffic stop involving her son allegedly gave staffers excess vacation time, and ignored a civil claim against herself for $2,100. Facing a bail set at $300,000, McKnight's future on the bench remains uncertain, with Gelman expressing doubt about her return. Meanwhile, Cumberland County prosecutors are handling the case to avoid potential conflicts of interest.  Want to listen to ALL of our podcasts AD-FREE? In the first episode of Season 12 of Star Wars: In a Galaxy, Eli, Jacob, and special guest Michael McCoy discuss and breakdown each of their first watch-throughs of the first two episodes of Star Wars: Droids ("The White Witch" and "Escape Into Terror"). Among their discussion: – This is... actually not that bad. – How do people of the galaxy perceive droids? – A LIGHTSABER! – Ill-defined lore, and its pros and cons. – The Fromm gang. – Kea's mom is a member of the Partisans. (Source: Eli's headcanon). – A throwaway line from Threepio sounds an AWFUL lot like a line one might see in Nemik's manifesto. – Lucas and Star Wars influence and inspiration. *ENCORE EPISODE* Nature in our cities.  If you're paying attention you'll notice the effect it's having on you. The slowed heart rate, a stolen moment to notice flickering leaves, buzzing insects, birds landing. Those designed-for, natural moments in our cities aren't in stasis - they're constantly changing and also spontaneous, influencing how we move through our cities, how we use them - and how they give back to us. In this season of Hassell Talks we've heard how spontaneous experiences are often behind the connections that bring people together; how designing in response to the perceptions of safety in rail precincts can help to encourage greater use by women, girls and the gender diverse; what workplaces need to do to become more 'magnetic'; and how listening, reflecting and learning from First Nations partners creates more inclusive experiences and connections. In this encore episode we revisit one of our most loved conversations from earlier in our catalogue, exploring a topic that's just as relevant as ever: the significance of our emotional connections to nature in cities - and the power it has to bring people together. Episode host, the Landscape designer, writer and gardener Jon Hazelwood is joined by writer, garden designer and TV presenter Michael McCoy as well as Professor Nigel Dunnett, responsible for some of the UK's most spectacular planted environments like the Barbican, Buckingham Palace's Diamond Garden and the planting designs for the London Olympic park (with his colleague James Hitchmough). We know you'll enjoy hearing how the creation of magical experiences in our cities has the power to profoundly move, connect and bring people together. Parts of this episode were recorded on the lands of the Gadigal people, and produced on Wurundjeri Woi-Wurrung land, in Naarm.

Replacing gas cars with electric ones is a main pillar of plans to fight climate change. But the lithium-ion batteries used in electric cars come with a cost. Communities near the Salar de Atacama in Chile, where about a quarter of the world's lithium is extracted from salty aquifers, say mining companies pose a serious threat to the local environment and their access to water. Mining companies strongly dispute those claims. In this episode of Stereo Chemistry, we'll explore the environmental factors at play in the salar and the differing perspectives on how best to measure impact. And we'll hear from a new group of mining start-ups that claim they can use chemical methods—as yet unproven—to extract lithium without the same impact on water.  This is the first episode in a new series exploring the future of water. Sober Shares - Alcoholics Anonymous Recovery Interviews

Michael McCoy SHARES 4 years of sobriety with us and explains how Alcohol and Drugs helped him to feel comfortable during his early days of partying in High School. His College years were fueled with alcohol and drugs. Mike had a great deal of fun for many years until his addictions started to rage out of control. The wheels started to fall off as his adult years started wiz by. Mike worked as an executive for several professional sports teams and also worked in commercial real estate for many years. He got sober at 54 years old and for most of his life he saw nothing wrong with his level of Alcohol intake. Denial is a powerful adversary when it comes to getting sober. Mike made it into recovery after getting battered by addiction and a couple failed suicide attempts. His sober life is based on his faith in his Higher Power and his sober friends in Alcoholics Anonymous. Humility and Grace are the foundation of his life as he reaches out to help others. Michael founded CHEF TO THE SHELTERS and is working to grow that program to bless as many people as possible. Please listen to this entire episode and you will be enlightened and entertained by its content. It is a fun ride, you will laugh, cry, and learn from his story of redemption and hope. Please visit cheftotheshelters.org to learn more about his passion project. Chef to the Shelters' mission is to provide meals and share their experience, strength and hope with men and women early in their recovery through our walk in faith and our journey in sobriety. This week's episode is a little bit different as our guest Michael McCoy is still serving in the Tennessee Army National Guard. He has been in talent acquisition, specifically seeking veteran and military candidates, first for Premise Health and now for Verizon. Mike is here as an experienced talent acquisition professional to pull back the curtain and give a behind-the-scenes look at the recruiting process from his point of view. Buckle up, this is a jam-packed episode that you may need to listen to more than once. This episode covers a diverse array of job search topics. Here are some highlights:LABOR MARKET RESEARCH:It's important to research what you want to do as well as where you want to live. We share some resources such as CBRE (https://www.cbre.us/real-estate-services/occupier/labor-analytics), The Business Journal (https://www.bizjournals.com) and The Bureau of Labor Statistics (www.bls.gov). Mike advocates for something as simple as Google Maps to find local businesses in the industry where you want to work in your target location.  RESUME WRITING:Don't forget to talk about your personal impact when you write your resume. Don't just list the amount of equipment you managed, talk about what you achieved while managing that equipment.  Look at every job posting as a problem. Your resume is not a work history, it is proof of your ability to solve the employer's problems or fulfill their needs. You will have more success sending targeted, focused resumes for each company and job posting instead of sending the same resume to everyone. APPLICANT TRACKING SYSTEM (ATS) SOFTWARE:Mike gets real about how he has used the ATS to screen and sort candidates. No, he is not letting a computer make his hiring decisions. However, he gives some great tips on ensuring your resume goes into the ATS and is searchable for the job for which you apply as well as future openings. INTERVIEWING:Clear and concise communication is key. When answering interview questions, try to keep your answer to 2-4 minutes max. If you talk longer than that, you are likely giving too much information. Don't talk yourself out a job in the interview. NETWORKING:Mike founded LinkedIn Music City, a local military transition and veteran networking group based in Nashville, TN in 2018 and he offers some great advice on how to successfully navigate both in-person and virtual networking events. You can connect with Michael McCoy at https://www.linkedin.com/in/michaelsmccoy/ SUBSCRIBE & LEAVE A FIVE-STAR REVIEW and share this to other veterans who might need help as they transition from the military!Connect with me on Facebook and LinkedIn! For years, I've railed against the Blue Yeti microphone.  As a radio mentor once taught me, "the worst thing for a bad product is good marketing."When I consult a podcast from the jump, I always recommend solo podcasters get the Samson Q2U or ATR 2100x microphones - they're actually about the same cost as the Yeti. But occasionally I consult clients who have already bought the Yeti, and they may not be able to return it, or are on a  tight budget and can't swing a 100 plus dollar mistake.  ThePodcastHost.com has a great review of the Blue Yeti - and it echoes may of the things I've been saying.   Plus, if you click the link in the show notes, you'll hear the fantastic accent of the author, Matthew McClean.   Essentially, if you have a Blue Yeti, it's best for solo podcasts - the settings to record multiple guests aren't ideal.  And most importantly, position the Yeti so you're talking into the SIDE of it, not the TOP.  And if you're not sure, plug in headphones and listen to yourself. Most people hate doing that, but it's important.  https://www.thepodcasthost.com/equipment/blue-yeti-podcasting-review/I've spent a lot of time in this podcast bemoaning the downfall of radio - in it's pre-internet heyday, radio DJ's broke new artists.  Even 10 years ago - my program director here at Channel 955, Michael McCoy, broke local artist Mike Posner when he heard "Cooler Than Me" on a mixtape.  Now, most new content seems to come from YouTube, TikTok, etc.  But podcast guru Tom Webster thinks once we figure out music licensing, podcasters will be next to break new artists.  Imagine what someone like Mistress Carrie in Boston could do with her show.  https://mistresscarrie.com/Also, Webster and his wife Tamsen are doing a webinar next week on making your podcast pitchable.  You just have to subscribe to his newsletter at tomwebster.media.  And here's a link to this week's column. https://tomwebster.media/the-last-best-frontier-for-podcastingSpeaking of webinars, the folks at Podfest are doing one, for $10, on best practices using Facebook ads to grow your podcast.  Now I've seen mixed results on this strategy, but maybe that's my problem - I didn't have a blueprint. The webinar is Tuesday December 14th. https://www.eventbrite.com/e/podlab-workshop-tickets-182204858637Naming your podcast is important.  It needs to be found easily by both Google and actual people.  You want something searchable, but unique. Before you name your show, search to see if there are other shows with the same or similar names out there.  PodNews has a nice article on the 100 most popular podcast names.  It's a good deep dive. https://podnews.net/article/most-popular-podcast-namesOnlyPod.com has a new service that will create a universal link for all things related to your podcast - it will link to various podcast apps, your social media profile, and even donation pages. https://onlypod.com/link Seems like a good idea - until you click and see it's $49 to buy one.   There are tons of other smart link services out there.  And the best way to market your show - is with its own website.  Even if you use a service like Podpage - here's my referral link. https://www.podpage.com/?via=jonNext time, I'm doing a special episode of this show - where I'll compare audio between Zoom, Skype, Riverside and Squadcast.  Until then, stay healthy and stay safe.  Lata!

Plants in our cities are important for many reasons, like flooding and urban cooling and biodiversity and human wellbeing and health. But they also have economic impacts that make green cities as attractive to developers and investors as those who just want to stop and smell the roses. Episodes 12 and 13 of Hassell Talks looked at why we value wild, natural planting in our cities as well as the importance of scale, ecology and sustainability when creating landscapes that appear natural and organic. For Episode 14, Principal Jon Hazelwood explores the significance of our emotional connections to nature in cities. This week is a great interview with Dave Puffer. Dave works at Bike World in Des Moines and he is on the show to talk about his cycling adventure riding the Great Divide Bike off-pavement route. The Great Divide is about 2,800 miles of pedaling from Alberta Canada, through British Columbia and then south through Montana, Idaho, Wyoming, Colorado and finally through New Mexico to the Mexico border. Dave’s expertise in long distance cycling tours along with the help of maps from Adventure Cycling, resources from bikepacking.com, and a book by Michael McCoy called Cycling the Great Divide, got him and his friend Gary through over 190,000 feet of climb in 33 days, and some of the best scenery he’s ever seen. So here’s is my interview with Dave Puffer. Enjoy! Join us each week where we will get to know new people and explore great destinations to ride your bike. Learn tips and listen as guests talk about their adventures on the bicycle. Michael McCoy is the Community Engagement Manager for Operation Stand Down Tennessee and a staff logistics officer for an armored squadron with the Tennessee Army National Guard. His team manages communications, volunteers, strategic relationships, and events including monthly and quarterly meet-ups and job seeker networking. Operation Stand Down Tennessee helps over 300 service members find employment in Tennessee each year, working directly with local employers, base and installation managers, and veterans and service members within the local military and National Guard communities. This conversation covers: How veterans should embrace the adventure of the next chapter of their career. Feeling comfortable at a new company where you might have less seniority than you did in the military. Balancing life, work, and service in the Army National Guard, while also helping soldiers to do the same. Giving yourself permission to start with, "No," and the natural process of elimination during a job-search.

A strategic leader for programs in talent acquisition marketing, and brand management. Seeking a new opportunity to build a brand. I am interested in opportunities that allow me to build upon my leadership skills, grow the value in a business and cultivate community. The experiences I have had in my career have been focused on developing strategic programs for sales volume growth, revenue per invoice, and client acquisition. These skills have been stretched across retail, wholesale, and non-profit businesses but have a focus on actionable results. Currently, via LinkedIn learning working to complete the Six Sigma Green Belt, and Project Management course. I have experience using Six Sigma fundamentals in mapping, process improvement, workflow development. I also have 3 years of project management experience managing projects of all sizes, with multiple contributors and team members. I was also on the board of the Nashville Junior Chamber of Commence as the Alumni Engagement Chair. The engagement of young professionals into leadership roles is very important to me, and believe in the vitality of corporations across the world. I love to talk to non-profit leaders about their junior boards and the engagement of their target audience. https://www.linkedin.com/in/michaelsmccoy/ Visit our sponsors Insight Insurance Services and The Lonely Entrepreneur.
