You think we're shipping the wrong people to Guantanamo? I'm old enough to remember a time when, if some civilian loudmouth waltzed through your front door barking orders, you could kick him in the plums, give him the old heave and also the ho, and get back to whatever it was you were doing before all the bad noise started. Yet somehow, in the Year of Our Lard 2025, we've allowed this porcelain pissant from South Africa to start rearranging the national furniture, to say nothing of the org chart, without so much as a “Just who the hell elected you to anything, anyway, Fisheyes?” Raise a ruckus and you get frog-marched out the door, either to the breadline or maybe a gated beachfront community that doesn't feature in Beelzebozo's plans for the tourist trade. Meanwhile, our media watchdogs just keep licking their own nuts; chasing random brain farts down countless odiferous ratholes; and “fact-checking” the arsonists who are burning down the government faster and more thoroughly than the Brits did during the War of 1812. But be of good cheer: There's plenty of bark and bite to be had in the latest edition of Radio Free Dogpatch! • Technical notes: RFD favors the Ethos mic from Earthworks Audio; Audio-Technica ATH-M50X headphones; Zoom H5 Handy Recorder; Apple's GarageBand, and Auphonic for a wash and brushup. The Captain from "Cool Hand Luke" communicates to us from YouTube. The boot to the bollocks and subsequent heave-ho hail from Freesound. The French taunter you may recall from "Monty Python and the Holy Grail." Air travel to Gitmo, a newspaper's printing press running, and soldiers on the march courtesy of Freesound. "Twisted Clowns" honk at us from Zapsplat. And last, but far from least, that's Sam Cooke working the "Chain Gang." All the other gang violence is the fault of Your Humble Narrator.
Bob talks about the ICE Raids and Immigration, the shooting and killing of Jesse Jamison, the restaurant business in Rochester, the RPD and RFD on a crime statistics, Bob talks to Marvin Adams and his wife, and Bob takes calls.
The ICE boyos have brought a chill to Chicago, Aurora, and even the desert Southwest as Jesus Hitler starts making good on his promise of mass deportations. Round up the usual suspects. A little song and war dance for the TV cameras. “Dr. Phil” even got in on the act in Chicago. Shock and awe, baby. It works, for a while. But some folks just don't take kindly to being shoved around. Soon even the fanboys will find the price of admission to the Dingaling Bros-Barnum & Beelzebozo Circus ("There's One Born Every Minute!) just keeps going up, as honest immigrant workers vanish alongside the bad guys, citizens decline to take their jobs in agriculture, construction, manufacturing, food processing and service industries, and goods and services get more expensive and/or harder to find. But never fear. We'll be annexing Canada! And Greenland! And the Sudetenland (whoops, wrong fascists, never mind). The Circus will roll on a Road of Bones until the world is under One Big Red White and Blue Tent (handmade by skilled artisans in border internment camps)! While you await your own personal invitation to assist the authorities with this project (and their inquiries) you might as well listen to the latest All-American Episode of — yes, yes, yes — Radio Free Dogpatch. Could be the last one. You never know who's lending us an ear, or why. • Technical notes: RFD favors the Ethos mic from Earthworks Audio; Audio-Technica ATH-M50X headphones; Zoom H5 Handy Recorder; Apple's GarageBand, and Auphonic for a wash and brushup. The trailer theme from "Fort Apache" comes from YouTube, as do Rick's conversations with Major Strasser and Sam in "Casablanca." Bob and Doug McKenzie say "Good day" from SCTV's YouTube page. The drum-heavy martial music (by Gregor Quendel) and “Out of Step” are both courtesy of Zapsplat. The Mescalero Apache tribe's take on a member's run-in with an ICE agent can be found here. The Guardian reports on a Navajo experience. The Associated Press covered immigration raids in Chicago. At The Atlantic Mark Leibovich had some fun visiting Greenland, soon to be our 52nd state. And at the New Republic Matt Ford shredded the pestilential ordure dropped on birthright citizenship.
Send us a textRobert C Gourlay, RFD, B.App.Sc., M.App.Sc. Company Director & Environmental Research Scientist. Robert is the Managing Director & Chief Scientist of Resonate Research specializing in biological research & water structure science.Robert is the inventor of the MEA water devices. He has over 30 years of water structure research, leading to the MEA capable of holding a permanent negative charge & structure.Robert's MEA (Magnetised, Energised Activated) Water structuring Device transforms water & other liquids into structured water with a permanent negative electromagnetic charge.Water in a natural flowing state has a six-sided crystalline (hexagonal) structure with a net negative charge due to the increased oxygen molecules. Structured water is known as living water. When water is removed from its flowing & vortex state (think a natural spring) the water structure changes to a five-sided crystalline (pentagonal) structure, & loses oxygen molecules & converts to a positive charge. All still water, including urban water from reservoirs, tank water & water flowing through straight pipes carries a positive charge/dead water. However, the cells in all living species, microbes, plants, animals, & humans, function at an optimal level with a negative charge. When you drink positive charge water, your body must use your energy to convert the positive charge to a negative charge. However, when you drink negative charge, structured water, you are not unnecessarily wasting your energy on charge conversion. There are so many inter-connected health benefits to drinking structured water including improved cellular hydration & uptake of minerals, increased blood oxygen saturation, reduced inflammation & elimination of foreign or toxic pollutants.60 hours after water or food is removed from nature it loses its net negative charge & becomes positively charged! Blame the Wolf Moon. A vacationing wife. An acid flashback. Whatever. But when I blinked myself awake in the dark on Tuesday morning I had no idea where I was. If dementia runs in your family, as it does in mine, this can freak you right the hell out. But I found it oddly exhilarating. “Where am I? Who knows? Who cares? This is great!" And then I remembered. “Aw, shit. Trumpsylvania.” We're just a few all-too-short days away from the sequel to a movie I never wanted to see in the first place. "Mr. Hyde Goes to Washington" should've been a one-off. But nooooooo. Everything has to be a franchise now. When the Joker started getting top billing we should've known what was coming. It's just one evil clown after another. • Technical notes: RFD favors the Ethos mic from Earthworks Audio; Audio-Technica ATH-M50X headphones; Zoom H5 Handy Recorder; Apple's GarageBand, and Auphonic for a wash and brushup. The wolf howls from Freesound, as do the sad trombones and the vinyl scratching. "Morning Mood" is from "Peer Gynt" by Edvard Grieg. Arthur, King of the Britons, chatting with an anarcho-syndicalist peasant come from "Monty Python and The Holy Grail." You'll catch a snippet of the "Grapes of Wrath" theme in there too (almost went with "Death Valley Days."). The ass-kissing is by Your Humble Narrator. The sound effect, not the actual, y'know, like, obesiance. And the classic "There Stands the Glass" is courtesy of Ted Hawkins via YouTube. As usual, all the other raving can be pinned on the landlord of this dump.
Another Jan. 6 has come and gone. This time we managed to skip the armed-insurrection part of the program, so yay for us. Turns out that when they win a presidential election, The System works. Who knew? Watching Vice President Kamala Harris preside over the certification of the 2024 election results this week sent me careening down Memory Lane, revisiting a night in the sneezer in 1977, a Louis C.K. dramedy from 2016, and the last three pestilential erections. Background music comes from Danny O'Keefe, AC/DC, The Cars, and Billy Joe Shaver, all thanks to YouTube. The 2016 dramedy "Horace and Pete" remains available on Louis C.K.'s website. Audio of the 2024 election-results certification courtesy C-SPAN. Dana Carvey as Ross Perot on "SNL" was lifted from YouTube. Bill Clinton comes (har de har har) from the William J. Clinton Presidential Library. The Walk of Shame is from HBO's "Game of Thrones." The headline is a riff on Bob Dylan's "Highway 61 Revisited," not incidentally in honor of RFD's 61st episode. Finally, ask not for whom the clown horn honks; it honks for thee (from Freesound). All other evil racket is courtesy of Your Humble Narrator.
I always liked science fiction. Science, not so much. Science always seemed rigid and impersonal. But science fiction, or speculative fiction, if you prefer — especially of the apocalyptic variety — spoke to the gloomy bog-trotter in my DNA. So I studied the fiction instead of the science, with predictable results. When it came time for me to go to college, there was only one in the state that would accept me with my miserable GPA. However, I was excused from freshman comp because I was a fool for words, as long as there were no equations to solve. SF seems best to me when the future isn't pretty, but people manage to muddle through somehow. "A Clockwork Orange." "Alas, Babylon." Or "Station Eleven." We watched the "Station Eleven" TV series on Max, recently watched it again, and afterward I finally got around to reading the book, which as usual is considerably different. Author Emily St. John Mandel was gracious about the changes, though, saying she thought the series "deepened the story in a lot of really interesting ways." I doubt that I'm adding any significant depth with this latest episode of Radio Free Dogpatch, but the notions contained therein have been taking up space in my head for a while now and the Voices would like them to leave. They're your problem now. • Technical notes: RFD favors the Ethos mic from Earthworks Audio; Audio-Technica ATH-M50X headphones; Zoom H5 Handy Recorder; Apple's GarageBand, and Auphonic for a wash and brushup. QUOTES “Accentuated Eccentric Loading (AEL) is prescribing an additional load that we can handle in the eccentric load before removing it in the concentric phase, and the other thing that has to be involved is pairing the eccentric and concentric phase so there is no delay between them” “The eccentric duration makes a big difference in the adaptation you will get with AEL” “If you were chasing strength from a loading standpoint, the gap between what is on the bar and what is on the weight releasers should be relatively small; however if I have a wider gap, that may favor RFD and power production” “With AEL, I would question is does the individual have the capacity to do it and do you need AEL on every repetition?” “One of things I would tell people first and foremost is when you are going to implement AEL 1) you don't have to do it with everything and you shouldn't be doing it with everything and 2) you're probably not going to be doing this over consecutive training blocks for a long period of time" SHOWNOTES 1) The update on what Tim's has been up to since our last episode (#31) 2) The ins and outs of Accentuated Eccentric Loading (AEL) and the benefits of using AEL 3) Why it is not always necessary to go supramaximal with athletes doing AEL and maintaining natural movement speed 4) The pros and cons of increasing the eccentric contraction duration e.g., tempo during training 5) AEL programming recommendations to target different training goals (e.g., hypertrophy, strength) 6) Practical advice for implementing AEL with weight releasers, dumbbells or other tools and the best upper body exercise variations for AEL 7) Different repetition schemes for AEL, moderating the influence on fatigue and why flywheel training is not necessarily AEL 8) Key aspects to programming AEL for athletes and factors that influence the time course of recovery for AEL 9) The benefits of keeping training simple for the vast majority of athletes and understanding the underpinning characteristics of how athletes achieve physical performances PEOPLE MENTIONED Jeremy Sheppard John Wagle John Hughes

A former quintessential city girl, Renee King-Sonnen married into the ranching business deep in the heart of Texas. Unexpectedly, she experienced a profound change of heart and fell in love with the farm animals, which changed the course of her life forever. In this episode Renee tells her story of transformation from rancher's wife to Founder and Executive Director of Rowdy Girl Sanctuary to her work with the Rancher Advocacy Program, which transitions cattle ranchers and animal farmers out of animal agribusiness. She continually brings her message of love and compassion to the hearts of sanctuary visitors, local businesses, churches, fellow ranchers and government officials, effecting real change. As a spiritual seeker, Renee has taken the deep dive into many of the world's faith traditions and finds her greatest strength in the still, small voice inside her that she has come to know through her practice of yoga and meditation in the pasture with her cow family. She is the embodiment of aligned feelings, thoughts and actions as she passionately and unrelentingly answers her calling at all levels in her life. Renee and her husband Tommy's story has been seen on CBS, ABC, RFD, and Animal Planet. Their sanctuary lives are featured in the newly released documentary, Rowdy Girl. She will be the keynote speaker at the upcoming Whole Planet Spirituality Retreat that I am hosting at Unity Village this October. On this weeks episode I sat down with Homewood- Flossmoor's jumps Coach Rob Assise. Jumping can be a game changer when we employ it in an intelligent manner. Jumping can teach one how to have a positive relationship with the ground and if we make the ground our friend we can begin to interact with it in more intense and dynamic manners. Force production is the name of the game, we discuss Impulse and the different manners in which one can increase impulse. A natural flow begins to emerge that can be beneficial for teaching athletes how to produce force and build a positive relationship with the ground. One can increase impulse by a) spending more time on the ground b)producing higher peak force c) increase in RFD. Chaining together these three different variables can help build competency, intensity, and help build towards the display of force within the unique time constraints of a given athletic competition. Coach Assise shares his intake process and how he examines a given athletes jump profile. I really like the rationale that he presents stating that he often likes to watch how athletes sprint. This makes a lot of sense as sprinting will force the athletes body to choose what it deems to be most desirable under shortened time constraints for force production. Some athletes may be more hinge based, while other athletes may be more squatty in their movements, coach Assise shares that he likes to build around what athletes bring to the table. A common thread throughout the conversation is the need for individualization, especially when dealing with higher intensity jumps. Coach Assise shares that in his experience jumps tend to be much more variable than sprint programming. It's important to find a level of proficiency where an athlete can exhibit the desired intensity. Coach Assise, states that by identifying an athletes capabilities at a given intensity he can build back to more rudimentary skills that will help build the athletes jump profile. RFD hits Overland Expo West! Ali takes this one solo and hangs out with some of the best!
Today's episode features Will Ratelle. Will is a strength coach, at the University of North Dakota, working with football, basketball, volleyball and tennis athletes. He is also the owner of “W2 Performance”. Prior to working in the performance field, he spent time as a professional football player, spending time with the Atlanta Falcons, Kansas City Chiefs, and Saskatchewan Roughriders (CFL). In the supportive role of physical preparation/S&C, it is very easy to partition the process of weightlifting away from the actual needs and demand of explosive, chaotic sports. It's also easy to get carried away with excessive auxiliary work, or “atomizing” facets of power work/RFD that don't end up transferring to actual explosive sport skills. In this sense, it's helpful to personally spend time in sport, in skill acquisition, and in strength development one's self, to intuitively understand the balance, and synergy, between athletic components. Will's athletic background, love for sport and play, and raw “horsepower” is a unique combination. He was a semi-pro athlete, can clean and jerk 198kg, dunks a basketball with ease, and also loves to play a variety of games and sports. Will has an analytical process to his performance programming, and asks important questions that have use really dig into the why of what we are doing in the gym (and beyond). On the show today, Will talks about his athletic, game-play and strength background, and how despite being more than physically capable, did not make the pro level of football. Will then goes into ideas on what we should actually be looking to improve/intensity in the gym setting. He chats on how to avoid training things that really don't matter in the grand scheme of everything an athlete is asked to do. Will finishes with his thoughts on the specificity of potentiation, jump and sprint variability training, and then a great take on the “Olympic lifts vs. loaded jumps” debate. When you do get a group of people to go play a game like that, they always say, “we should do this more often”” “I think a lot of times (playing) is going to have a better training effect than going in the gym for an hour” “I didn't have the (tactical) ability that would have been required for me to play at that level… the general perception action abilities were right up there with anybody else, I just didn't have the specific perception action abilities”
