This week the filmmaker Kire Godal whose focus on African culture and wildlife has reached audiences through National Geographic, the Discovery Channel, BBC, Amazon Prime among others. Her purpose and goal is to capture and memorialize important stories that she feels need to be recorded for history and to educate a wider public at a time when both people and animals are under threat of radical social and environmental changes or extinction. Kire was born in Aspen, Colorado in 1962, one of three children—she has two brothers—to Norwegian immigrants Inge and Bente Godal . Her childhood was spent exploring the back country of Colorado, riding and skiing. She soon developed a passion for the outdoors and animals, which drew her to ambitions of being an explorer. But first, after High School, she was going to find herself in the Big Apple, drawn to the world of modeling after being talent spotted on the slopes by the American modeling agency executive, Eileen Ford. Whilst on fashion shoots, and catwalks of New York, Kire became fascinated in the art of photography and was soon drawn to being behind the camera. It was also at this time that Kire met her first husband, the Italian model agent, Giogio Piazzi, which would take her in a new direction. Kire found herself living in Aguilla BWI and Caracas, Venezuela while raising her first two children before returning to the US. She had decided by now that she wanted a career in filmmaking and took herself back to school at UCLA to study broadcast journalism. From there she worked in TV news, but it was the draw of the wild that led her to Kenya where she met her second husband and started her own production company Malaika Media as an independent filmmaker while raising three children but by now as a single parent. Her dreams and ambitions led to make her own self-funded films, which gradually led to bigger and more ambitious productions. Her portfolio includes Maasai The Last Dance of the Warriors for National Geographic, Lion Warriors for National Geographic Wild, Skypaths, and many more ethnographic, and natural history wildlife productions. Kire lives in Kenya and is currently working on two productions; Tolstoy, The Tomato Thief about a Super Tusker Elephant, and Maasai Eunoto featuring the important Maasai Warrior passage to elderhood ceremony. "Breaking Big" with Erin Neumeyer is a podcast about working in the entertainment industry. Meet people who work in all areas of show business to find out how they broke into the industry and found success. Working in this creative field can be a roller coaster - there will be laughter, thrills and tears - but these talented people are enjoying the ride! A HUGE Thanks to WhoHAHA.com for featuring our show in the "Podcasts We Love" Section of their App! While you can listen to our show everywhere podcasts are streamed we would be honored if you would open (or download the app HERE if you don't already have it) and listen there this month! While you're there check out the other lady driven shows - there are lots of great ones! This is the one with Indy Saini! Indy Saini is a filmmaker and motorcycle rider passionate about adventure and travel, driven to increase the complex stories of women in mass media. Her short film directorial debut "The Lesson,” garnered international awards including Best US Narrative at the Women's International Film Festival in Miami. Indy's technical skill behind the camera has landed her work with master storytellers including Ang Lee and David Lynch on major Hollywood movies such as “Harriet,” “Gemini Man,” and “A Wrinkle In Time.” Her documentary work as cinematographer includes: “Soma Girls,” about education the children of sex workers in India that aired on PBS; "Women in the Front Seat,” about female motorcycle gearheads (winner Best Feature Doc in the Nevada Women's Film Festival) and “Ice Bear,” a National Geographic Wild film for which she received an Emmy Nomination. SHOW LINKS / MENTIONS SHOUT OUT: Indy mentioned her friend, Sharon Sullivan, who she created a final college project with - a performance art piece targeting violence against women and ending in a interactive ritual that allowed anyone to write on a piece of paper something in their life they want to release and burn in a ceremonial process. Sharon went on to devote her life to improving the lives of women - working to stop sex trafficking. Helping trafficked survivors after they've been rescued. Creating a program to educate women at the local women's prison so when they are released they have better chance at a new life. Going to the UN to advocate for women's rights. Don't miss the link to her TED TALK below. Indy stopped at her farm in Topeka, Kansas during her motorcycle road trip, exhausted and questioning whether or not to keep going. Was there a point to what she was doing? She encouraged Indy, reminding her that we all do our little piece to make a difference. Using her rain gauge as an example, that each drop of water is necessary to fill up the gauge. Each act we do to change / help / improve the life's of women is our drop of water. https://www.washburn.edu/our-faculty/sharon-sullivan TED TALK LINK: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RXJHLxRK4ck Indi is also a huge fan of Emily Best, the founder of Seed and Spark! https://seedandspark.com/ founded by Emily Best HANDLES IG @indyksaini FB https://www.facebook.com/IndyKSaini TW: @indysaini WEB: https://www.indyksaini.com/ IMDB: imdb.me/indysaini CONTACT INFO Breaking Big with Erin Neumeyer is produced by Erin Neumeyer and Edited by Dylan Neumeyer Show Music composed and performed by Dylan Neumeyer Email us at ThunderTally@gmail.com or Follow us on Instagram @ThunderTally --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/breakingbig/support

Randy talks about some the rip-offs that are seemingly becoming the norm, and also why your mobile phone is never as secure as you may think. YouTube TV Cuts Price this time, only ecause they have to. - YouTube failed to reach a deal with Disney (ABC News Live, Disney Channel, Disney Junior, Disney XD, Freeform, FX, FXX, FXM, National Geographic, National Geographic Wild, ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU, ESPNEWS, SEC Network, and ACC Network.) This according to Ars Technica's write-up. https://arstechnica.com/information-technology/2021/12/youtube-tv-loses-espn-abc-and-all-other-disney-owned-channels/ - Long story short: Google wants networks to treat YouTube TV like a bigger network and give them good price. - One user, Sterlingdax, commented something interesting regarding the price change: `Not a subscriber, but if one can get Disney for $14, but YouTube is knocking $15 off current bills, doesn't it make sense to subscribe direct, or am I missing something?` - SolomonRex wrote: `This is why I've stuck with sling. $30 with ESPN, hgtv, food network, TNT, etc, and I have an antenna for ABC, etc. works great for me.` Toyota making users pay $8/month for an unconnected service (remote start) if they want to continue using it. - Even Toyota wants a piece of that subscription service pie, even without really providing a service. Absolute bullshit. Hopefully, people think and speak with their wallets and don't encourase this bad business practice. This makes me think of the idea of the "Great Reset" that has been floating around and muttered but the World Economic Forum: "You will own nothing and you will be happy". No, that's incorrect and that sounds like some sort of neo Feudalism. I don't rent. I own. People need to stop empowering tyrants. We will finally settle this argument with evidence from National Geographic Wild book Cats vs Dogs. This also shows the challenge of us being close minded and learning how to open our minds.
In 1825, an act of Congress authorized the building of a breakwater off of Cape Henlopen in Delaware to create a protected harbor. The new harbor that was created was called the National Harbor of Refuge. In 1907 a lighthouse at the southern end of the outer breakwater went into service. The original structure was replaced by a 76-foot-tall cast-iron lighthouse in 1926 and automated in 1973. Harbor of Refuge Lighthouse under construction (National Archives). Today on Hempire Dr. Eileen Karpfinger is joined by Chris Kleronomos who aims to “bring apitherapy out into the light.” Chris became interested in natural medicine while serving in the U.S. Navy. As a Corpsman he provided battlefield first aid and medical treatment to Force Reconnaissance where he learned of the value of plants for both survival and medicine. The USMC Force Recon Units are the Marines version of the Army’s Green Beret or Navy’s SEAL Teams and fall under the Joint Special Operations Command. After the service he followed this interest and studied for a master’s degree in Oriental Medicine, at the Midwest College of Oriental Medicine, and then completed a doctoral program focusing on oncology and chronic disease, at Bastyr University in Seattle. Chris Kleronomos is an activist. In the 2002 he worked in Cambodia for WildAid and Conservation International —which aims to end illegal wildlife trade, largely resulting from the trade in natural products (plant and animal) for medicine. He is an outspoken supporter of the value of natural healing in treating chronic pain and other disorders. And, as a newly elected board member of the AAS, he is working tirelessly to educate the public about apitherapy.
Tim Medvetz is a former member of the Hells Angels and host of the National Geographic Wild series “Going Wild.” After a horrible motorcycle accident and still not fully recovered from his extensive injuries (he was not expected to walk again) he decided to fly to Nepal, live with Sherpas, and summit Mt. Everest. He eventually created The Heroes Project, with the mission of taking veterans who suffered catastrophic injuries on climbs to the world's seven tallest summits. Medvetz' goal for these climbs is to mirror the mental, physical and emotional challenges it takes to overcome losing limbs in battle.
