After graduating in 2012, Gareth Edwards spent the first 5 years of his dental career by treating patients in Middleton, North Manchester. He then embarked on an 18-month journey through Asia and South America, dedicating time not only to traveling but also to reading a diverse range of books. In 2019, Gareth returned to Bournemouth, his hometown, and formed a partnership with Zak Kara. Sharing similar philosophies about dentistry and business, they initially took over a three-surgery practice. However, they quickly outgrew it and moved into a larger, purpose-built clinic, giving birth to Smile Stories. Their philosophy was centered around creating an experience "nothing like your old dentist." Gareth generously shares here the secrets that make Smile Stories a success. In this podcast, you'll discover: How Smile Stories has become a unique dental practice by fostering lifelong patient relationships, incorporating innovative design, and utilising comprehensive digital dentistry. You'll also learn about their ideal client; Their inspiration from outside the dental field and various examples of where they gain this insight; The creation of a work environment where team members are eager to come to work, engaging every team member in each stage of the patient journey with their "Triangle formula"; Gareth and Zak's calculated approach to risk, enabling rapid growth and expansion; Their strategies for marketing, enhancing patient experiences, and cultivating a strong team culture that resulted in 571 five-star Google reviews. You'll learn their "Peak End Rule", identifying the optimal time and method for requesting reviews. Examples of how they surprise and delight patients, including team celebrations at the end of treatments; Personalised marketing approaches for each new patient, sending tailored marketing messages that cater to the individual needs and desires of the patient. And much more!

Claire Knapp is the vice president of finance and administration, chief business officer and treasurer at Manchester University in North Manchester, Indiana. In this episode, Knapp joins our host Donna Schiele to talk about his unique career journey from public accounting to higher education, navigating financial challenges in a post-pandemic environment, and the importance of collaboration and relationships in his role. "If you're stepping into the CBO role, you have to have a strategic mindset. I think it's important to be thinking strategy and also to be able to think strategy with not only the group that you may be working with, but thinking strategically with the cabinet, thinking strategically with the board, bringing strategic ideas," Knapp says. He emphasizes the significance of strong analytical skills and the ability to interpret data effectively. "Relationships are really critical. I view myself as an investor for the university. So when departments or other of our colleagues come and ask them when to spend money, for me, it's an investment. So it's working together with them." Join us for a conversation with Knapp as he discusses the evolving role of a CBO, critical skill sets for aspiring leaders in higher education finance, and the value of mentorship in professional growth. Welcome to your Paulding County News Podcast. I'm Melissa Carter, along with Doug Harding. A local student is arrested, but not everyone agrees it was the right move. Plus, why don't all Paulding County hospitals have the same services? We'll get your take. But first let's take a look at our top stories. PC News After 137 days of license suspension, the Dallas Markets have announced they have their business license again. You remember in November the markets were ordered closed after owner Andrew Rodriquez started building an unpermitted bunker. The Rodriquezes say they will soon announce the official reopening of the markets. This from the Dallas Markets. PC News Last week Dollar Tree, Inc. revealed plans to shutter approximately 1,000 Family Dollar and Dollar Tree stores. The decision outlines the closure of approximately 600 Family Dollar outlets this year, with an additional 370 Family Dollar and 30 Dollar Tree stores to follow suit over the next few years. There are several in Paulding County, though no word on which stores may be closing. Most recently, Family Dollar made headlines for a record $42 million fine imposed due to federal officials' findings of unsanitary storage conditions for food, drugs, and other items. This from The Patch. PC News At the Paulding County Airport, a new aviation maintenance school is opening doors for local students. With the establishment of the GBAA Scholarship, aspiring aviation enthusiasts have a unique chance to receive financial aid for their college education. This opportunity not only fosters the growth of the aviation industry but also supports the educational pursuits of students in the community. You can find out more and apply at GBAA.org. Arrest Report From the Georgia Gazette: A Paulding County High School student was arrested for possession of marijuana and knife in her purse, which she said she kept for protection at her mother's house but thought she had removed it. Brandyy Red Is no one concerned why this child needs a knife for protection at her mom's house? Staci Cain-Carter Maybe if this joke ass school system would ACTUALLY do something, these kids wouldn't feel the need to go to this extreme. Lisa Braddock wait a sec. What exactly would y'all expect a school to do about a kid peddling vapes and drugs with a knife? She's not a baby … mugshots … legal adult here. I'd be more concerned if the school didn't do this. Vape pens and marijuana are all in every school and it is a concern. What should have been done?? Social Media From the What's Happening in Paulding County Facebook page: Tina Contois posted: Paulding County is growing so very quickly. I do not understand how the local hospital does not have labor and delivery there. Tanner hospital in Villa Ricca does for god sake‘s. Evelyn S Elsner It has to do with politics. Casey Whatyousay Lots of misinformation here. Ultimately boils down to GA certificate of Need. All additions to hospital and associated programs require approval. By then what you originally was seeking approval for is out dated. Thats why hospitals always seem “behind the times.” Jodi Steed The Certificate of Need system in Georgia is what controls the medical offerings in an area. Police Superintendent Anne Kirkpatrick revealed that the vermin-infested building has reached such dire conditions that rats managed to snack on confiscated marijuana. 'The rats eating our marijuana, they're all high,' she remarked during a city council meeting. Plans are underway to relocate the 910 officers to a temporary high-rise building. This from Sky News. Interview: Pastor Steve Flockhardt from New Season Church State News In a move that could potentially redirect taxpayer dollars, the Georgia House Education Committee advanced Senate Bill 233, dubbed the 'school choice bill.' If enacted, it would allocate $6,500 vouchers to students from the state's lowest-performing schools, allowing them to attend private institutions. Advocates argue it offers personalized educational options. However, critics caution that this may disproportionately benefit urban areas, leaving rural counties with limited options. With the legislative session ending soon, lawmakers aim to finalize the bill by the end of the month. This from Atlanta New First. PC News The Great American Eclipse is just around the corner. Happening on April 8, residents across the country, from Texas to Maine and everywhere in between, are gearing up for this celestial event. Although Paulding County won't experience a total eclipse, we'll still witness an impressive 80 to 85% coverage of the sun. Mark Lancaster, an astronomer at Fernbank Science Center, assures us that while the lighting may change slightly, without proper protective gear, you might not even notice the eclipse. Here are three safe ways to catch a glimpse of the partial eclipse: Protective Glasses: Remember those "eclipse glasses" from 2017? If you still have them, ensure they're in good condition. If not, make sure to purchase ISO certified glasses online. Regular sunglasses or welding glasses won't cut it. Shadow Boxes: Create your own with a shoebox, foil, paper, tape, and a pencil. Cut holes in the box, cover one with foil, make a small hole with the pencil, tape white paper inside, and voila! Witness the eclipse's projection safely. Looking Down: Don't forget to observe the ground! The eclipse will cast unique shadows, especially through trees and bushes, creating a mesmerizing spectacle. Remember, safety first. In this episode I interviewed students and staff at the youth conference of the Church of God General Conference. The conference, called Fuel is held once a year and occurred July 17-22 at the campus of North Manchester University in North Manchester, Indiana. It is a fun, exciting time when One God believing students from various US States meet, are encouraged and challenged by each other and by the conference staff. Maybe you know someone who should attend next year? I hope you will be blessed by listening in to the excitement in the voices of the students and staff as the next generation learns that Yahweh is our God. Next Sunday, the 7th, the 432MHz Low Power Contest runs from 0800 to 1200UTC. Using all modes, the exchange is signal report, serial number, locator and your 2-letter postcode. Now the radio propagation report, compiled by G0KYA, G3YLA, and G4BAO on Friday the 29th of July 2022. We've had a week of lower solar flux indices, despite a smoothed sunspot number in the 50s. The sunspots we have had have been relatively small and pretty inconsequential. The week started off with an SFI of 107, but then declined to 98 by Thursday. The good news is that we have had relatively settled geomagnetic conditions after a wobble at the weekend due to a high-speed solar wind stream. Other than Sporadic-E events, the maximum usable frequency over 3,000km has struggled to get up above 18 or sometimes 21MHz during daytime. But, as we have said before, night-time MUFs have remained seasonally high, topping 14MHz over a 3,000km path most nights. Next week, and as we enter August, we can expect more of the same. The solar flux index is predicted to rise slightly to perhaps 115 by next weekend. But the prediction is also for more unsettled geomagnetic conditions with a maximum Kp index of four this weekend and again later in the week. This is most likely due to high-speed solar wind from coronal holes once again. So best of luck with the IOTA contest this weekend, which will probably be dominated by operators on 20 metres with occasional Es openings on the higher bands. And now the VHF and up propagation news. There have been some fleeting signs of the continuing Sporadic-E season, but events are not so commonplace in this second half of the summer. This means being alert to the typical operating windows, which traditionally are early or mid-morning and again late afternoon/early evening. At the heart of these events will usually be a weather feature, such as a jet stream, whose turbulence creates a wave motion in the atmosphere that can cause varying wind flows in the E region some 100km above the weather, and are a big contributor to the formation of Es. In this coming week, the jet streams are very limited so it's not looking too favourable for major Es events. The weather pattern shows lows near the northwest of Britain driving fronts across the north, and at the same time precluding the development of Tropo, since it does not allow the development of high-pressure systems. However, conditions in the south are a bit more supportive, so there could be occasional Tropo, especially over sea paths around the UK. There is a hint that the second half of the week will see the development of a large high more generally over the UK, so that's the time for Tropo to shine. The other modes such as rain scatter are not looking too strong since the frontal cloud bands tend not to be as effective as heavy thundery showers, but it's always worth checking for aurora and meteor scatter as we move into August and within reach of the broad peak of the Perseids meteor shower. It's a good week for EME with positive Moon declination until Tuesday and falling path losses, but we are still more than a week from perigee. 144MHz sky noise is low but slowly increasing all week. And that's all from the propagation team this week.
This week I'm talking to Sara Baruch… Sara is an Ethiopian Jew who was raised in Israel, after her parents travelled across East Africa & the Middle East over a period of years to arrive there, with a journey hampered by famine, forced displacement, loss of friends and family members. This is not just Sara's story, but her family's too. We're releasing this episode today for a reason. Yesterday, 29th May 2022, is a national holiday in Israel, called Yom Yerushalayim (Jerusalem Day), that commemorates both the reunifications of Jerusalem after the Six Day War of 1967. On Yom Yerushalayim, another national holiday is held; Ethiopian Jew's Memorial Day, created in around 2004 to commemorate the Ethiopian Jews who perished on their journey to Israel in the various mass exoduses from 1984 onwards. Sara is in the UK as an emissary for both the UJIA and the Jewish Agency, so thank you to those organisations for letting us record in their North Manchester offices! ujia.org jewishagency.org -- This episode is sponsored by MANSCAPED. “I'm just very, very raw, real and true, but sometimes a little bit too dark and a little bit too naughty for people. And I think that is a Mancunian thing.” Happy Mondays singer Rowetta Satchell, needs little introduction. Her voice is the synonymous sound of Manchester from the late 80's right through to today. Born and raised in North Manchester, the spirit of the region runs through Rowetta's veins - from her love of Manc humour and cool weather - to the most bizarre chippy order ever! Join Lisa Morton as she hears about the resilience that saw Rowetta leave a women's aid refuge with two children, aged 21, to tour the world with the Happy Mondays. You'll also hear about the women in Rowetta's childhood, who supported and nurtured her talent for singing. ------ Your host, Lisa Morton, started PR company Roland Dransfield in 1996, one month after the fateful IRA bomb that tore apart the city centre. From that point, the business, and its team members, have been involved in helping to support the creation of Modern Manchester – across regeneration, business, charity, leisure and hospitality, sport and culture. To celebrate the 25 years that Roland Dransfield has spent creating these bonds, Lisa is gathering together some of her Greater Mancunian ‘family' and will be exploring how they have created their own purposeful relationships with the best place in the world. In this episode, we are joined by Dr. Anne Budzinski, an AABP member practicing at CalfCare in North Manchester, IN, where she focuses on calf medicine and consulting. Dr. Budzinski is a 2015 graduate of Michigan State University. She shares her story of paying off $184,000 of student loan debt in 5 years and 4 months! We discuss her background of growing up on a farm in Michigan and selling potatoes as a child and baling hay to learn the value of hard work and managing her finances. She recommends only borrowing the amount of money you need for tuition and living expenses while in veterinary school versus taking the maximum amount of loans offered. Continually re-assess your needs each year to limit the amount of debt you incur in veterinary school. After veterinary school, she suggests not taking the grace period but starting payments immediately. Dr. Budzinski offered a few tips for those paying off student loans:Pay off your smallest debts first and work up to the large ones. As the smaller debts are paid, roll the payments into the next largest debt and so forth. This helps the borrower with a sense of accomplishment as each debt is paid. Have financial plan or budget. Stick to the budget. Know where your money is going each month. Make a visual chart of your goal and cross off your accomplishments. She made a chart from 1 to 184 and crossed off the numbers as her debt decreased. Don’t compare yourself to others. You know your situation and should develop your own plans and goals.Dr. Budzinski also discusses managing work-life balance as a busy associate veterinarian, a wife and a mother of a young child. She states she is a “work in progress” which is true for all of us. She also shares her goals now that she is debt free which includes increasing her retirement savings contributions, starting a small herd of cows, and taking a trip to the “motherland” – Poland!

There are some people in the dental landscape who really need no introduction.Even more reason, in my opinion, to get behind the scenes with Ash and find out where he comes from and how his extraordinary career developed as THE go to guy for communication skills training in dentistry.I’m going to let you into a secret - back in the summer, Ash cycled the 26 miles each way from his house to mine, so that we could record the first version of this interview. Can you imagine my horror when I realised that the technology had let me down and our conversation was lost?I offered to travel over to Ash’s training centre in North Manchester to start again - he graciously combined a personal trip to South Manchester to arrive back in The Barrow Bunker for take-two and here we have it.Ash shares with us his career pathway from humble beginnings selling on a market stall in Liverpool to taking a leap of faith by enrolling on a sales training programme, after he had walked into the trainer's office to complain that delegates were parking outside his house. From there, the pupil became a teacher and achieved #1 ranking in his organisation for UK sales and top 5 globally.Along the way, Ash developed a lifelong appetite for learning and shares with us how and why that happened by a swimming pool in the USA. A defining moment.Eventually, the call of independence enticed him into setting up his own business, then a series of equally chance encounters produced just 2 dentists who attended one of his courses in 1998.The rest is history and (as we say) after 20+ years of hard work, he has become an overnight and international success. This isn’t just the story of one lad from Manchester who did well for himself, it’s also how Ash has literally changed the lives of thousands of people along the way - a story that will inspire every business owner.Enjoy listening to me chatting with one of my best mates in business.

Father and son team Jeff and Zach Hawkins raise two acres of vegetables, 20 acres of grain, and a variety of livestock on 60 additional acres of pasture at the J.L. Hawkins Family Farm outside of North Manchester, Indiana. About half of their sales go through a CSA, with the remained going through farmers markets and local restaurants, as well as an on-farm pizza night. Jeff shares the story of how the farm was started by his grandparents in the mid-1950s, and how he came back and then changed the farm from a hobby farm to farming in earnest in 2003. We also dig into Zach’s return to the farm in 2013, and the accompanying expansion in markets and management that was made to accommodate an additional person on the farm. Jeff and Zach also share how they’ve made the relationships on this small family farm work, including the ways that their respective spouses are and are not involved in the operation. Zach shares some of the details about how they have integrated the vegetable and livestock operations, including the use of pasture patches to grow some of the vegetable crops. Zach and Jeff share how they plan their way through the diversity of operations, and the decision-making processes they use to do it. We also discuss some of the challenges they’ve faced, including how they overcame regulatory and legislative hurdles to processing their chickens on farm, and how they approach food safety with livestock and vegetables on the same farm. In Just Plain Sense it's my aim to feature every side of the enormous conversation around Equality, Diversity and Human Rights in British society. There are plenty of people who can talk about first hand experiences, or advocate on behalf of whole communities; in the last episode we heard from a senior civil servant; so in this episode I'm featuring a speech by an elected city council politician. Councillor Paul Fairweather represents the North Manchester area of Harpurhey. He's an out gay man and this speech is taken from a conference last year on LGBT Health strategy, so his comments about health and more general inclusion reflect that. Nevertheless his point about the role of local political influence -- using scrutiny powers, local area agreements and partnerships -- is just as valid for any group.
