Episode DescriptionAudra Moran is the President and CEO of OCRA—Ovarian Cancer Research Alliance—which means she spends her days doing things most of us wouldn't survive five minutes doing: merging nonprofits, leading national patient support programs, funding lifesaving research, surviving pharma grant hell, and trying to reach every woman in America who might be slipping through the cracks. We talk about her time working with the Helen Keller National Center (yes, she knows finger spelling), her accidental journey into cancer nonprofit leadership, the weirdness of dermoid cysts, the ridiculousness of writing grants, and the absolute hellscape of diagnosis delay. Oh, and the fallopian tubes. You'll never look at them the same way again. This episode is funny, raw, deeply personal, and loaded with Gen X movie references and random facts about Paul Rudd, Terminator 2, and flipbook apps at 3am. Audra drops wisdom, humility, and a few hot takes on AI, advocacy, and what it really means to lead when the boulder keeps rolling downhill.RELATED LINKSAudra Moran on LinkedInOvarian Cancer Research Alliance (OCRA)Audra's profile on OCRACURE Today interview: Leading the FightOCRA + AI & Data: Overlooked PodcastFEEDBACKLike this episode? Ethan Glass's parking management service Ocra came from humble roots. As a parking operator managing spaces near the LA Coliseum, he saw firsthand just how fragmented, inefficient, and disorganized the industry was; every vendor had different methods for tracking inventory, adjusting pricing, and accepting payments. Not content with the status quo, Ethan began incorporating automations and technology to reduce slippage and operating costs. Then, like so many other startups, COVID-19 disrupted the industry. With in-person events (and thus, event parking) coming to a screeching halt overnight, Ethan and his team could have rolled over and quit. Or, they could get creative. Listen in as he shares the story of Ocra's pivot to build the world's first omni-channel management platform for parking operators, designed around real client needs from the ground up.getocra.com
It may be just about the end of September but it's not the end of ovarian cancer so it definitely not the end of the awareness for the horrible disease. I don't just spread awareness because I have gone through this cancer three times. Nope, I also do it for ALL those that have lost their lives to it. From the friends I have met along the way to the ones that died who were loved by friends. In particular, two dear friends that both lost their mother to this disease. :( I will continue to advocate for as long as I'm still here. Until there is a cure or rather until women no longer die from it the conversation will keep going. Please, if there is ANY episode for you to share consider sharing this one. It's worth sharing as it could save lives. I truly believe that! Stay safe and keep healthy! God bless. Very happy to be bringing you Episode 42 of The Best Ceats Podcast featuring Pamela Waitt, who is one of the founders of the Orange County Restaurant Association.Pam is also the driving force behind all of the major associated events of the OCRA, including OC Restaurant Week, Margarita Crawl, and more! Perhaps one of her biggest achievements, is the founding of OC Foodies - the driving destination for foodies in the area!. As many of you know, TBC was recently asked to come on board as a partner for these events. Full disclosure, I had wanted to have Pam on as a guest well before this, but serendipitously the timing just so happened to be that we recorded just after the partnership became public. Should there be any "sponsored" sort of content related to that partnership, trust me it will be fully denoted in the said content - this episode was just happenstance.Regardless, this is a great little episode we recorded over the phone covering the history and future of the association and its ongoing efforts to help local restaurants.
