Bernie Sanders has entered the ""Honey Badger"" phase of his political career and we love to see it. On NBC's Meet the Press, Sanders voiced his disagreement with calls for Justice Sotomayor to step down quickly to allow Biden to appoint a replacement before Trump potentially takes office, citing her age at 70. An Israeli minister says the “time has come” to annex parts of the West Bank following Trump's win. Meanwhile, Trump has offered Elise Stefanik a role as U.N. Ambassador." It's Monday, January 15th, A.D. 2024. This is The Worldview in 5 Minutes heard at www.TheWorldview.com. I'm Adam McManus. (Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Adam McManus Finnish Christian parliamentarian found not guilty of hate speech In a win for religious freedom, the Helsinki Court of Appeal found Christian Member of Parliament Päivi Räsänen and Lutheran Bishop Juhana Pohjola not guilty, reports Alliance Defending Freedom International. The two had been accused of inciting hate-speech after sharing their beliefs on biblical marriage between a man and a woman. Räsänen, who expressed her beliefs on social media, was facing charges under a section in the Finnish criminal code titled “War Crimes and Crimes Against Humanity.” And Pohjola faced charges for publishing a booklet on biblical marriage, which Räsänen wrote almost 20 years ago. Paul Coleman, Executive Director of Alliance Defending Freedom International, was exuberant. COLEMAN: “This crucial ruling upholds the fundamental right to freedom of speech, making clear that free speech extends to opinions some people might disagree with.  This battle has been won, but the war against censorship around the world continues. “In a free society, everyone should be allowed to share their convictions, faith-based or otherwise, without fear of censorship. Criminalizing speech through so-called hate speech laws shuts down public debates and poses a grave threat to our democracies.” In John 16:33, Jesus said, “In the world, you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.” Trump reiterates claim that Heartbeat laws are political losers Last Wednesday, when the remaining GOP presidential contenders were debating one another, former president Donald Trump appeared in a Town Hall meeting on Fox News with Brett Baier and Martha MacCallum. Mary Margaret Olohan, a senior reporter for The Daily Signal, asked about his recent statement indicating that a Heartbeat Bill is  “terrible,” reports LifeSiteNews.com. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, one of Trump's rivals for the GOP nomination, signed a Heartbeat Bill into law in April 2023 which protects babies in the womb whose heartbeats can be detected, typically at the sixth week of pregnancy. On NBC's September 17, 2023 edition of Meet the Press, Kristen Welker asked Trump about DeSantis' decision to sign the Florida Heartbeat bill into law. TRUMP: “DeSanctus was willing to sign a five-week and six-week ban.” WELKER: “Would you support that? You think he went too far?” TRUMP:  “I think what he did is a terrible thing and a terrible mistake!” With that background in mind, here is Mary Margaret Olohan's question from last Wednesday in Iowa. Listen. OLOHAN:  “For me, it all comes down to this question between you, sir, President Trump and Ron DeSantis because you both talk a lot about pro-life, your record. And that's my number one issue and the cry of my heart.” TRUMP: “Good.” OLOHAN: “… is justice for all people.  I've been, you know, vocal and celebrating with you all of your pro-life victories from the past. But then, in this campaign, you've also blamed pro-lifers for some of the GOP losses around the country, and you've called Heartbeat Laws, like Iowa's, terrible. And so I'd just like some clarity on this, because it's such an important question to me.” TRUMP: “Okay.” OLOHAN:  “I'd like for you to reassure me that you can protect all life, every person's right to life without compromise.” After recounting his success in appointing three Supreme Court Justices – Neil Gorsuch, Brett Kavanaugh, and Amy Coney Barrett – who helped to overturn Roe v. Wade in 2022, Trump said this. TRUMP: “I happen to be for the exceptions, like Ronald Reagan, with the life of the mother, rape, incest. … But I will say this, you have to win elections. Otherwise, you're going to be back where you were, and you can't let that ever happen again. You've got to win elections. “Ron DeSantis, his poll numbers have gone down to a level that he's going to be out of the race very soon. I don't know if that were the reason. I hope it wasn't the reason. I hope it's for other reasons. He's doing very, very poorly. It happened to coincide with that – [his signing the Florida Heartbeat bill into law].  Because a lot of people say a lot of you know, if you took five or six weeks, a lot of women don't know if they're pregnant in five or six weeks. I want to get something where people are happy.” Trump has indicated that he likes the idea of a national ban on abortions at 15 weeks, an idea that his former Vice President Mike Pence had proposed. Help pay for legal defense of pro-life rescuers And finally, as The Worldview reported on Friday, 10 faithful pro-life Christians are facing a federal trial, which begins tomorrow, for rescuing pre-born babies from certain death on March 5, 2021 at an abortion mill in Mt. Juliet, Tennessee. The trial, which could lead to astronomical fines and up to 11 years in federal prison, will be located at the Federal Court House, 801 Broadway, Nashville, TN 37203. If you live in the area, please attend a prayer rally that begins at 7:30am outside the court house.  But, no matter where you live, please pray that justice would be done and the peaceful pro-lifers would not be penalized for participating in righteous civil disobedience. Three quick updates to that story. First, listen to the first-hand accounts of some of the pro-life rescuers at the website StifledCry.com. Second, Chet Gallagher, the organizer of the Mt. Juliet, Tennessee 2021 pro-life rescue has a powerful testimony. Back in January 1989, he was a Las Vegas, Nevada policeman. Not only did Gallagher refuse to arrest pro-life rescuers in Las Vegas, but he felt convicted in 1989 to join them, for which he himself was arrested while in uniform. Gallagher was subsequently fired from the Las Vegas Police Department for his pro-life stand. And third, The Personhood Alliance has set up a GiveSendGo donation page to help pay the legal expenses of Paul Vaughn, one of the 10 pro-life rescuers. Vaughn, age 55, is the father of 11 and the president of Personhood Tennessee. His oldest is 27 and his youngest is 18 months. Four of his children are married, and seven of them still live at his home. Vaughn told The Daily Signal, “It is not uncommon for pro-life people to have large families because the very concept of having children is something that we believe is a gift from God and something to be valued and sought after.” Appearing on Fox News, Vaughn described what happened when he was arrested by the FBI agents who were pointing guns at him and using guns to intimidate his children. VAUGHN: “When my kids go out to the car to go to school, and the FBI pulls up, armed, running to the door, and one of them goes to the kids and holds the kids with a long gun at the side of my driveway, and does not let them go into the house, that is absolutely, as my wife said in the video, unacceptable.” In Deuteronomy 30:19, God said, “I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life, so that you and your children may live.” So far, Christians across America have donated $24,056 toward the $100,000 goal.  Please consider making a donation today. Pressure Grows for Continued Cease-Fire; Musk in Israel

On today's podcast: 1) 1) Israel is coming under increasing pressure to agree to an extension of a four-day pause in its war with Hamas. President Joe Biden said he supports prolonging the cease-fire, which is due to end on Tuesday morning and part of a deal to free hostages held by Hamas in Gaza. The halt in fighting is “critically needed” for additional aid to get into the territory and for more captives to be freed. 2) Rishi Sunak said he condemns antisemitism “in all its forms,” in a careful criticism of Elon Musk that stopped short of the full-throated condemnation by US President Joe Biden and others who have accused the tech entrepreneur of amplifying anti-Jewish hatred on his X social media platform. 3) Black Friday shoppers spent a record $9.8 billion online in the US, Adobe Analytics reported, offering a positive sign for retailers facing lackluster sales forecasts for the holiday season.  Full transcript:  Good morning. I'm Nathan Hager and I'm Amy Morris. Here are the stories we're following today. First, the latest developments out of the Middle East. Israel and Hamas are signaling that a temporary ceasefire could be extended beyond today. Under the current agreement, Hamas is releasing fifty hostages in exchange for one hundred and fifty Israeli held prisoners. President Biden says he's aiming for this break in fighting to continue. Critically, nay, today is going in and hostages are coming out, and there's still structured so that it can be extended to keep building on these results. That's my goal, that's our goal, to keep this pause going beyond tomorrow. When President Biden spoke yesterday with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who signaled an extension was possible. Meanwhile, Israel is coming under increasing pressure to agree to an extension of a four day pause in it's war with Amas. We get more from Bloomberg's Simon Marx and Tel Aviv. Israel is under some pressure to continue to slow drip releasing hostages. There is still a lot of public pressure here to get many more released, and the families and the victims of the hostage families are still very active. Bloomberg. Simon mar says, so far Hamas has handed over fifty eight hostages, including non Israelis. It is slated to free another eleven Israelis today to fulfill the four day Agreement. And in Washington, the issue of Israeli aid maybe getting more complicated. Bloomberg zed Baxter has that story. Senator Chris Murphy is saying lawmakers should consider conditioning future aid to Israel based on compliance with international humanitarian law. I think there's both a moral cost to this, many civilians, innocent civilians, children often losing their life, but I think there's a strategic cost. Ultimately, Hamas will get stronger, not weaker, in the long run if all of this civilian death allows them to recruit more effectively, enablely inside Gaza. Murphy on CNN civilian death toll must stop, ed Baxter Bloomberg Radio, Thanks D. Another complicating factor in aid to Israel and Ukraine is a dispute over security at the southern border. Republicans in Congress want to tie foreign military assistance to tougher border policies. On NBC's Meet the Press House Intelligence Chair Mike Turner said it will be tough to pass the AID before the end of this year. While the issue remains unresolved. Man Amy events in the Middle East may be forcing President Biden to skip an event he's attended the past two years. According to The New York Times, a White House official says the President will not be at the COP twenty eighth Climate summit in Dubai. The official didn't say why, but senior aids are suggesting the Israel Hamas war has consumed the president in recent weeks. Meanwhile, Elon Musk will today meet with the Israel with Israel's Prime Minister and president, as well as representatives of the families of hostages held in Gaza. The closed door meeting appears to be an effort to diffuse a growing backlash over the billionaire's endorsement of an anti Semitic tweet. While Musk has drawn support from notable figures including hedge fund manager Bill Ackman, others, including British Prime Minister Rishi Sunek, say that Tesla and SpaceX chief should not be given a pass because of who he is. I don't tend to get in the business of scrutinizing what every single person says who I've interacted with. Of course I bore anti Semitism. It doesn't matter whether you're Elil Musk or you or someone on the street who's shouting abuse that someone who happens to be walking past you. That's wrong in all its forms. Antisemitism in all its forms is completely and utterly wrong. So next careful criticism comes just weeks after the British Prime Minister had a fireside conversation with Musk at the UKAI summit. Turning to markets, amy stocks are going higher. That's the call from Deutsche Bank. The firm's strategists, including Binkie Chata, predict the S and P five hundred will rally to a record fifty one hundred by the end of next year. That's about twelve percent above current levels. Chata says stock valuations are not high and earnings are growing solidly. Meanwhile, Wall Street it returns to work with lots of economic data and plenty of earnings reports. We get a preview from Bloomberg's Charlie Pellett. Tech earnings will be in focus this week, with z Scaler and crowd Strike holdings underscoring how businesses are prioritizing cybersecurity after recent high profile corporate hacks. Among the other technology companies reporting this week Salesforce and Dell. In New York Charlie Pellette Bloomberg Radio. Okay, Charlie, thanks for also keeping an eye on retailers today. Well, because it's cyber Monday. The huge online spending day comes after shoppers spend a record online on Black Friday. More on that from Bloomberg's Eddie vendor Wald. What we're seeing is that US consumers spend a record nine point one billion dollars online. That's according to Adobe Analytics. It's a record so far. But we're seeing two interesting trends. Number One, a lot of people are spending on buy now, pay later, and we are seeing them buying less luxury items with this spending. So it feels like the consumer is starting to feel the pitch and rather than going out spending big money is saying, look, this might be a good opportunity to start cutting back out of spending. Bloomberg's Eddie vander Walt says global Black Friday sales rose twenty two percent, led by clothing, personal care, and jewelry. The owner of TikTok is cutting jobs. Bye Dance plans to eliminate hundreds of positions in gaming and wind down at Showpee s brand Uverse. The closure marks by Dan's biggest retreat from a once booming gaming industry dominated by ten Cent and at smaller faux net Ease. Sources say the Chinese company intends to announce the cuts later today. Time now for a look at some of the other stories making news around the world, and for that we're joined by Bloomberg's John Tucker. Good morning Job, Hey, Good morning Amy. The US is investigating whether Iran was behind an incident in which missiles were fired near the Navy destroy USS Mason. The Mason intervene to stop the hijacking of a commercial cargo ship by pirates in the Gulf of Aidenere, Somalia on Sunday, after which two ballistic missiles were fired from Yemen tour the Navy destroyer. The ballistic missiles were fired from the part of Yemen controlled by Iranian backed Hutu rebels. They fell well short of the mark. We could be looking at a shakeup in the battery industry that's critical for the energy transition battery giants are starting to put their money on a new sodium based technology. Let's get more in this report from Bloomberg's Denise Pellegrini. Sodium from rock salt and brines is cheaper and way more abundant than the lithium widely used now in batteries. But in the past week alone, Sweden's Northfold said it made a breakthrough, and China's ev maker BYD signed a deal to build a one point four billion dollar sodium ion battery plant. Also, China's coatl said back in April at sodium based batteries would be used in some vehicles starting this year. This could all hit lithium demand Hardloomberg GETTYF has said sodium could cut hundreds of thousands of tons of lithium demand by twenty thirty five. Denise Pellegridy Bloomberg Radio. This post Thanksgiving travel rush could be won for the books. American Airlines said that it flew six and a half million customers over the holiday, the highest ever for the airline. Of this traveler at New York Liberty Airport spoke for many I travel from California to New York back and forth all the time. I have never had this much of a weight. I don't know why. American says it had more than sixty one hundred departures Sunday and expects about six thousand flights today. The Biden administration today will announce a redoubling it measures to strengthen supply chains. It's creating a new White House Council on Supply Chain Resilience. The council will conduct a supply chain review mirroring similar strategic documents prepared for National Defense at Homeland Security. Global News twenty four hours a day and whenever you wanted with Bloomberg News Now. I'm John Tucker and this is Bloomberg Amy. All right, thank you, John. We bring you news throughout the day here on Bloomberg Radio. But now you can get the latest news on demand whenever you want it. Subscribe to Bloomberg News Now to get the latest headlines at the click of a button. Get informed on your schedule, and you can listen and subscribe to Bloomberg News Now on the Bloomberg Business app, Bloomberg dot com plus Apple, Spotify, and anywhere else you get your podcasts. Time now for our Bloomberg Sports Update and for that, we bring in John stash hour Amy. The game of the day was in Philadelphia. The Eagles trailed Buffalo by ten points in the fourth quarter, trailed by three with twenty seconds to go when Jake Elliott tied the game with a fifty nine yard field goal. Philly also trailed in overtime, but Jalen Hurt scored a touchdown and the Eagles beat the Bills thirty seven to thirty. Fourth. Philly is ten and one. The Bill's having a disappointing season at six and six. The Patriots having a really disappointing season. They are two to nine. Lost to the Giants ten to seven when Chad Ryland missed a thirty five yard field goal with three seconds to go. Ravens last night improved to nine and three. They beat the Chargers twenty to ten. The Steelers are seven and four, all seven wins by seven points or less. They've been outscored on the season, but Pittsburgh able to win at Cincinnati sixteen to ten. Bengals played without the injured quarterback Joe Burrow. Carolina dropped a one in ten, lost to Tennessee seventeen to ten. Indianapolis Street Tampa Bay twenty seven to twenty Michael Pittman had over one hundred yards in receptions. Two SEC schools with new football coaches at Texas A and m it's Mike Elko. He had been at Duke the last two yea been a report there were eight Palestinians killed in the West Bank in an air strike. The situation is very restive there that there is growing settler violence. Since October seven, Jewish settlers in the area have carried out way over two hundred attacks on Palestinian communities, and the Israeli army have also come down pretty tough on demonstrators and suspected sympathizers of Hamas. The population there in general feels like it's being occupied and oppressed, and that the Palestinian authority which runs the show there in some areas, isn't really representative of them. Obviously, if things continue in this direction, there's massive risks of it boiling over, and then, you know, I think beyond that, beyond Israel's borders. So far it has been more or less contained, but it is very, very worrying. We saw Israel strike the airport in Damascus not that long ago, targeting, yeah, targeting Iranian targets there. So clearly it's a it's a huge risk. This is Bloomberg Daybreak Today, your morning brief on the story's making news from Wall Street to Washington and beyond. Look for us on your podcast be by six am Eastern each morning on Apple, Spotify, and anywhere else you get your podcasts. You can also listen live each morning starting at five am Wall Street time, on Bloomberg eleven Priezero in New York, Bloomberg ninety nine to one in Washington, Bloomberg one six to one in Boston, and Bloomberg nine six in San Francisco. Our flagship New York station is also available on your Amazon Alexa devices. Just say Alexa. Play Bloomberg eleven thirty plus. Listen coast to coast on the Bloomberg Business app, siriusxmb iHeartRadio app, and on Bloomberg dot Com. I'm Nathan Hager and I'm Amy Morris. Join us again tomorrow morning for all the news you need to start your day right here on Bloomberg DaybreakSee On Saturday November 9th, fans rioted at Roosevelt Field Raceway in Long Island, battling police and setting fires. At least fifteen were hurt and the head of security died of a heart attack during the riot. Sunday November 10th was the evening before Veteran's Day. On NBC, Frank McGee signed on for Monitor with a salute to the holiday. Andrew Pearson had correspondence from Vietnam, while President Kennedy spent much of the weekend in New York City. On this same day, Black Muslim activist Malcolm X delivered what would become a widely re-quoted speech to the Northern Negro Leadership Conference at the King Solomon Baptist Church in Detroit. His message was one of revolution. He heavily criticized civil rights leaders like Martin Luther King Jr., who he said sold out and added that the March on Washington was "nothing but a circus, with clowns and all... white and black clowns." The next morning President Kennedy and his family flew to the white house. The President and John Jr. went to Arlington National Cemetery to take part in Veterans Day Ceremonies. Meanwhile, The first interplanetary probe in the Soviet Union's Zond program, Kosmos 21, failed to escape Earth orbit after rocket misfire and a failure of proper altitude control. On November 12th, The President met with Portuguese and Uruguayan Ambassadors before hosting an off the record meeting on Cuba that included Robert Kennedy, Dean Rusk and Robert McNamara. He also signed off on National Security Memorandum 271, a then-secret memo to NASA Administrator James E. Webb, telling him "to assume personally the initiative and central responsibility" to develop specific technical proposals "for broader cooperation between the U.S. and the USSR in outer space, including cooperation in lunar landing programs." On Wednesday, November 13th, at 11:15PM, Jean Shepherd signed on from WOR talking about protests, intellectuals, and angry demagogues. Two days after this broadcast, on Friday November 15th, 1963, seven days before President Kennedy's scheduled visit to Dallas, Democratic Party leader Baxton Bryant sent an angry telegram to President Kennedy complaining that Democratic supporters were being shut out of the planned November 22nd luncheon by Dallas Republicans who were in control of the Dallas Citizens Council. The plea was for the President to do something or face a boycott by his most loyal supporters. A motorcade from Dallas Love Field to downtown Dallas was arranged for the Kennedys after another Bryant complaint. That evening, the President flew to Palm Beach, Florida.

Trump is back at it with the lies. On NBC's Meet the Press over the weekend, moderator Kristen Welker had to correct quite a few whoppers. From trying to blame former Speaker Nancy Pelosi for January 6th by falsely saying she had power over Capitol Security to familiar election lies to abortion laws to the national debt…it was one lie after another. But Trump went uncorrected most of the time. It was a disaster for truth and a win for the former President who continues to roll over any interviewer in his way. Crime comes to the Mark Thompson Show. Courtney will look back at a Bay Area case you may remember. We love animals here on The Mark Thompson Show! Karen Dawn with Dawn Watch will come by to share some good news about Oregon becoming the 9th state to ban wildlife killing contests. The Mark Thompson Show 9/18/23

In today's podcast - Glenn discusses the foot in mouth problems of Donald Trump. First, he talks about Trump's speech at the Road to Majority Conference in Washington where he claimed he has the absolute right to take classified documents because the Presidential Records Act made it legal. On NBC's Meet the Press, Congressman Don Bacon was the only brave voice to claim the emperor has no clothes and said "Sharing classified Iran documents is a crime". Next, Glenn shares Trump's recent social media post where he screams in all caps that Jack Smith is a psycho and deranged and that he should be charging President Biden with some made up crime. 06-18-16 - The Ups and Downs of Donald Trump - The Rise of an Economic Powerhouse Donald Trump’s presidential campaign manager said Tuesday that Mr. Trump is indeed worth $10 billion and that there’s no concern a more detailed look at the presumptive GOP presidential nominee’s finances would reveal the candidate isn’t bringing in as much as money as he says he is. “Your tax returns on a yearly basis don’t tell you what you’re worth,” Trump campaign manager Corey Lewandowskisaid on “CBS This Morning.” “What they show is what your income is.” “And Mr. Trump has already showed what his income is: $557 million last year, he has a massive cash flow, he has very, very little debt, less than two or three percent of his overall net worth,” he said. “He’s worth $10 billion.” The $557 million figure comes from Mr. Trump’s recently-filed personal financial disclosure form, and the campaign has said his net worth is “in excess” of $10 billion. But other recent independent estimates have put it at less than that. Forbes Magazine estimated last September that it was $4.5 billion. “I’m running for president,” Mr. Trumpsaid in the magazine’s write-up of his financials. “I’m worth much more than you have me down [for]. I don’t look good, to be honest. I mean, I look better if I’m worth $10 billion than if I’m worth $4 billion.” Asked if there’s a concern that Mr. Trump’s tax returns will show his income is smaller than what he has said publicly, Mr. Lewandowski said: “Absolutely not.” Mr. Lewandowski also said the financial disclosure form doesn’t provide a comprehensive look, saying, for example, that the option for assessing Trump Tower’s value is simply “more than $50 million,” and a building across the street sold for $1.8 billion. He also reiterated that the billionaire businessman would release his tax returns once an IRS audit is finished. “As soon as that audit is done, he’ll release his taxes,” he said. On NBC’s “Meet the Press” this week, likely Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton called on Mr. Trump to release his tax returns and “prove that he actually has the level of success he claims to have.” Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, the 2012 GOP presidential nominee, has suggested that one reason Mr. Trump isn’t releasing his tax returns is because he might not be as wealthy as he says he is. Mr. Romney, who bowed to pressure himself in 2012 to release some of his financial figures, has also called on Mr. Trump to release his returns. “Mitt Romney’s taxes were not under audit at the time,” Mr. Lewandowski said. “The difference is Mr. Trump is proud to pay a lower tax rate — the lowest tax rate possible.” Mr. Lewandowski also dismissed Mr. Romney as a “failed presidential candidate on two different occasions,” saying he “hid from his wealth” and that Mr. Trump owns a store on Fifth Avenue worth more than Mr. Romney’s total net worth.

On NBC’s “Outlaw,” Carly Pope plays Lucinda Pearl, a wildly unorthodox private investigator who uses her sex appeal and wit to gather information for Cyrus Garza (Jimmy Smits). Pope has recurred on critically acclaimed television shows such as “24,” “Dirt” and “Californication.” On the feature-film side, Pope recently wrapped the sequel to “SWAT” opposite Gabriel Macht. She can also be seen in “Textuality” as the lead opposite Eric McCormack. Prior to that, she starred in the controversial Toronto International Film Festival favorite, “Young People F****.” Many also remember Pope opposite Al Pacino and Matthew McConaughey in “Two For the Money” and alongside Colin Hanks and Jack Black in “Orange County.” Pope got an early start in her hometown of Vancouver, B.C. with various television and film work before landing the plum role of Sam on the series “Popular,” which aired for two years, launching her career. After “Popular” was cancelled, Pope returned to Vancouver where she continued to win new fans and impress industry insiders and the media with her insightful and sensitive portrayals. Pope is a Leo Award winner for her work on the series “The Collector.” Starring Emmy Award winner Jimmy Smits ("NYPD Blue," "The West Wing"), "Outlaw" is a new drama from creator and executive producer John Eisendrath ("Alias," "Felicity"). Few jobs are guaranteed for a lifetime, and a Supreme Court appointment is a position that no one ever quits -- unless he is Cyrus Garza (Smits). A playboy and a gambler, Justice Garza always adhered to a strict interpretation of the law until he realized the system he believed in was flawed. Now, he's quit the bench and returned to private practice. Using his inside knowledge of the justice system, Garza and his team will travel across the country taking on today's biggest and most controversial legal cases.
