Wall Street closed mixed again on Wednesday as investors reacted to comments made by federal reserve officials this week signalling rates need to stay higher for longer in order to tame inflation to the target rate. The Dow Jones industrial average posted its sixth straight winning day, ending the session up 0.44% to notch the longest green streak in 2024, while the S&P500 closed just 0.03% lower and the tech-heavy Nasdaq fell 0.18%, weighed down by poor corporate earnings results. Uber shares fell 5.7% on Wednesday after the ride share giant posted an unexpected net loss and weaker-than-expected booking revenue, while Tesla shares dipped 1.7% on reports the company allegedly committed wire fraud as part of a probe into Tesla's autopilot system, according to Reuters.Over in Europe on Wednesday, markets extended the recent rally into the midweek session as investors continued reacting positively to key corporate earnings results. The STOXX600 rose 0.3%, Germany's DAX added 0.37%, the French CAC climbed 0.7%, and, in the UK, the FTSE100 rose 0.5%. Siemens Energy rose 12.8% after raising its outlook for 2024. Sweden's Bank cut the nation's interest rates for the first time in 8 years on Wednesday in another sign of European regions digressing from U.S. lead on the rate front.Across Asia markets on Wednesday, earnings results weighed on investor sentiment in the region which sent markets into negative territory. Japan's Nikkei led losses with a 1.63% decline as investors responded to disappointing corporate earnings results including out of Toyota and Mitsubishi.Locally on Wednesday, the ASX traded virtually flat all day before ending the up 0.14% to extend this week's rally into the midweek session driven by industrial and information tech stocks rallying 0.73% and 0.6% respectively.Perpetual confirmed it is parting ways with its high value corporate trust business to US private equity firm, KKR, for $2.18bn. On the same day, Perpetual chief executive Rob Adams announced his retirement from the global financial services organisation.  This division of the business has been a key driver of Perpetual's global success and growth in recent times which may be why investors responded so negatively on Wednesday with the share price plunging 6.95%.Goodman Group hit a record high intra-day yesterday before investors took some profits after the industrial property company released an impressive third quarter update including upgrading FY24 earnings guidance for a second time, with the company now expecting EPS growth of 13% in FY24. What to watch today:Ahead of the local trading session here today, the SPI futures are expecting the ASX to open Thursday's session down 0.24% on global market turbulence overnight.AU$1.00 is buying US$0.66, 102.35 Japanese Yen, 52.57 British pence and NZ$1.10.Trading Ideas:Bell Potter has increased the 12-month price target on Alpha HPA (ASX:A4N) from $1.75 to $1.95 and maintain a speculative buy rating on the specialty metals and technology company following the release of a comprehensive market update including an increase in the price outlook for HPA equivalent, increased demand and Alpha HPA's high purity aluminium products having value adding applications across lithium ion battery, micro-LED and semiconductor manufacturing. And Trading Central has identified a bullish signal on Nufarm (ASX:NUF) following the formation of a pattern over a period of 10-days which is roughly the same amount of time the share price may rise from the close of $5.25 to the range of $5.57 to $5.65 according to standard principles of technical analysis.

Rob Adams, the CEO and owner of Bishop-McCann, has a storied career that took a dramatic turn from a 12-year stint at tech giant Microsoft to the helm of a premier events company. Adams' transformation journey reveals some profound insights he's gathered along the way. From the simple yet profound mission of creating joy to savoring unique experiences and benefiting from the mindset shift of younger generations, Adams sees a bright future for the meetings industry. From Tech to Events Adams started his career in events with a remarkable transition from a 12-year tenure at Microsoft. Adams enlightened listeners with his decision to shift gears, a move that left his colleagues perplexed. Adams' rationale for such a change was steeped in potential rather than just parties. Creating Joy Bishop-McCann's mission statement — 'We create joy' — might seem simplistic in wording, yet it embodies the company's profound impact on its clients. Adams stressed the significance of this mission and emphasized the pivotal role of joy. Savouring the Experience Adams also revealed a personal practice he maintains during events: taking a solitary moment to create a "mental picture" capturing the essence of the gathering, a practice that encapsulates the fleeting beauty of human interaction and celebration. Events: A Trilogy of People, Moments, and Memories Adams eloquently distilled the essence of events into three elements: people, moments, and memories. This philosophy underscores the sensory richness of events, an experience Bishop-McCann strives to perfect. By accentuating the individual attendee experience, Adams envisions a future where events are tailored to create lasting, positive impressions for each participant. Generational Influence: A Forward-Thrust for Industry Change According to Adams, younger generations have become catalysts for transformative change across the meetings industry. Their demand for balance, transparency, and defined career development have become benchmarks that benefit all workers. Bishop-McCann has embraced these changes, instituting policies like unlimited vacation, which Adams acknowledges were "influential" and accepted as a boon by all age groups within the corporation. The Benefits of Competitor Collaboration Adams wished for the meetings industry to emulate the collaborative spirit demonstrated during the COVID-19 pandemic. Encouraging an open exchange of ideas among competitors could, in Adams' view, drive collective improvement and innovation within the industry, a sentiment that resonates with Bishop-McCann's inclusive and progressive ethos.

At a press conference in Los Angeles yesterday, State Assembly Speaker Anthony Rendon called on U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary, Xavier Becerra, to declare a public health emergency. As of yesterday, San Francisco has 141 cases of Monkeypox more than any other county, followed by LA County with 132. UCLA's departure will leave just UC Berkeley as the only UC campus in the Pac 12. In a statement, Newsom says he wants to know from UCLA how moving to the Big Ten will benefit its student-athletes and preserve college sports rivalries and traditions along the Pacific Coast? Rob Adams was fatally shot by police in a San Bernardino parking lot on Saturday while running away from officers. Police say Adams was carrying a gun and was displaying the weapon when officers drove up. But family members dispute that story and say he was holding his cell phone, not a firearm.  The San Bernardino police department reported to the state Department of Justice that officers shot and killed 13 men from 2016 to 2020. Reporter Jonathan Linden, KVCR Radio This week Governor Newsom signed into law a bill that would require the use of GPS devices to monitor so called “sexually violent predators” when they're granted conditional release from a state mental hospital in Fresno County. Supporters of the law say it's necessary to protect California communities.  But some critics say the GPS tracking of offenders would be an invasion of their right to privacy. Reporter Saul Gonzalez, The California Report It was just four years ago that the commission voted to prohibit campaigns from receiving any crypto donations. But as we know- things change fast in the digital world.  So far, 12 states and Washington, DC now allow Crypto donations. California has been among nine states banning these digital contributions because they're tough to regulate and trace.  If the change is approved, crypto donations must be processed using a service that collects the donor's name, address, occupation, and employer. The Registry Act Bill was introduced on Wednesday and has been updated over the years, but the current version only offers green cards to people who've lived here since at least 1972.  Under the new bill, with a rolling cutoff date, immigrants could apply on a case-by-case basis if they've lived in the U.S. for seven years. Opponents say it would reward illegal immigration.
