More than a quarter of UK voters back a party that's only got 5 MPs. Labour won a stonking majority in parliament last year with just over a third of the vote. What's happening to our democracy? Does the system still work? Or is the social media-fuelled clamour for instant policy-fixes not suited to going to the ballot box once every five years? Is autocracy becoming more attractive to voters who want efficiency in government? On this week's episode of the podcast, Scott Williamson of the University of Oxford joins Marc Lynch to discuss his new book, The King Can Do No Wrong: Blame Games and Power Sharing in Authoritarian Regimes. This book stresses the importance of understanding autocratic blame games. Scott Williamson argues that how autocrats share power affects their ability to shift blame, so that they are less vulnerable to the public's grievances when they delegate decision-making powers to other political elites. Contains Distressing ContentScott Joined the Police in 1995. He had been a professional footballer, and his selection process was extremely smooth! He had played for Alloa Athletic and Scotland under 16 and played against Saudi Arabia in the Youth World Cup Final alongside Paul Dickov .Prior to joining the police Scott worked in the travel industry. His first day at training school wasn't the best start. He had been told to wear casual clothing. However, the drill sergeant had other ideas and a public telling off and was one of a handful who had to put their uniform on in the car park! He has fond memories of his time in training school and it was a platform that served him well throughout his career. His conclusion of training he went to his force for local procedure. On his first day, as he sat in the canteen, he was informed that there had been a shooting at Dunblane primary school. Along with his young colleagues he was dispatched to the school and was placed on scene preservation and to prevent the press and parents from entering the area. He saw the aftermath of the shooting and he describes his experiences as unforgettable. His first week became even more memorable when he broke the wrist of a suspect who he had handcuffed.Scott served at the Court in Holland where the Lockerbie Suspects were tried. This experience was carried out in the spotlight of the worlds press. The camp was in lockdown at night and the staff worked hard and played hard. Scott discovered a liking for firearms and undertook the tough process to qualify. His skills were recognised and he became the Chief Firearms instructor. The success in the work place came at a cost. The impact on his family was such that it put an end to his marriage. His depression was overwhelming but the death by suicide of a friend had a significant impact, and he found that with the support of the PFOA he was able to make the changes he needed to put his life back on track. The motivation to retire from Police Scotland was as a result of the pension changes. He wanted to stay but it became cost prohibitive.Since retirement Scott has been working for a number of different organisations and concentrates on wellbeing and has supported organisations such as PFOA Hosted on Acast. Blackstone Minerals Ltd (ASX:BSX, OTCQX:BLSTF) managing director Scott Williamson speak to Proactive's Thomas Warner about the company's ambitious plans for 2024. Blackstone Minerals Ltd is focused on building an integrated battery metals processing business in Vietnam that produces nickel-cobalt-manganese precursor products for Asia's growing lithium-ion battery industry. Williamson explains that Blackstone is looking to restart the Ta Khoa Nickel Project, Vietnam, a previously operating nickel sulfide mine, alongside constructing a refinery. This refinery is central to the project as it will produce chemical products for lithium-ion batteries, importing nickel feedstocks from Australia and Canada. Highlighting the project's unique approach, Williamson explains that unlike many of their peers who produce nickel concentrate, their refinery will produce a precursor cathode active material (PCAM), essential for the first stage of lithium-ion batteries. This high-nickel cathode is vital for long-range electric vehicles and consists of a nickel, cobalt, and manganese ratio of around 8:1:1. Blackstone Minerals is currently finalising the definitive feasibility study for the refinery. The company has conducted a 12-month pilot plant and extensive work on their flow sheet, using hydrometallurgy technology to produce a low carbon, green nickel product. This product has a significantly lower CO2 footprint compared to other sources, notably Indonesian nickel. In terms of funding, Williamson mentioned that Blackstone is exploring partnerships, particularly with the battery industries in Japan, China, and Korea, while also undertaking a rights issue linked to a new acquisition, the Wabowden Project in Manitoba. The Wabowden project, also a previously operating nickel mine, is part of a strategic plan to secure a stable nickel concentrate supply for the Vietnamese refinery. This project, along with the Buckeye mine, will contribute to a two-mine, one-refinery model, enhancing the company's ability to supply chemical products for its partners. #BlackstoneMinerals #ScottWilliamson #MiningIndustry #NickelMining #VietnamMining #RefineryProject #LithiumIonBatteries #GreenNickel #SustainableMining #ElectricVehicles #BatteryTechnology #MiningTechnology #EcoFriendlyMining #NickelRefining #MiningInnovation #BatteryIndustry #CleanEnergy #MiningInvestment #ResourceSector #MiningNews #ProactiveInvestors #vietnam #invest #investing #investment #investor #stockmarket #stocks #stock #stockmarketnews
Scott Williamson, TSCRA Executive Director of Law, Brand and Inspection Services, joins TSCRA Talk host, Kristen Brown, to discuss opportunity and awareness around the upcoming total solar eclipse taking place on April 8, 2024. As some ranches will open their gates to welcome visitors, he explains the importance of properly communicating expectations as well as having liability forms signed and the proper insurance in place. For those who do not plan to have guests at their ranch, Williamson discusses securing the property. While Williamson stresses the importance of not being fearful, he does share about the importance of having an emergency management plan that is communicated to employees and family, which can be put into place during weather emergencies or events that put a strain on resources. Additionally, Williamson encourages listeners to stay up-to-date on specific information from their area through their local city and county officials.

Blackstone Minerals (ASX: BSX) managing director Scott Williamson joins Small Caps to discuss the strategy behind the company's move to acquire a major Canadian nickel mining opportunity. Under an option agreement with CaNickel Mining, Blackstone has agreed to make a cash payment of $1.3 million and to exercise an option to acquire 100% of the Wabowden project by making up to four staged payments. Not only will the Wabowden nickel project in Manitoba provide a significant new mining venture, it will also provide Blackstone with a potential supplier of nickel to its refinery in Vietnam. With a resource of 1.3 million tonnes of contained nickel, Wabowden, considered one of the most advanced nickel sulphide projects in North America, would substantially increase Blackstone's global mineral resource as well as potentially providing the feed required for the Ta Khoa refinery, removing the company's dependency on sourcing third-party feedstock. Wabowden also ticks all the boxes when it comes to Blackstone's “green” nickel ideals. 25 Sep 2023 - Wally Graham of Resources Roadhouse at the New World Metals Conference, speaking with Scott Williamson, Managing Director of Blackstone Resources (ASX:BSX).
In this episode we chat to Scott Williamson, MD of Blackstone Minerals who are an Australian based minerals exploration company moving ahead with its flagship Ta Khoa nickel-copper-platinum group element project in Vietnam. Scott is a mine engineer by background working in operations and corporate roles during his career and took up the MD role 6 years ago and takes us through his journey and what the future is for Blackstone Minerals. He talks about the partnerships they are looking to form with car manufacturers or electronics companies and their attractive ESG credentials. KEY TAKEAWAYS Cobalt was the critical metal in lithium ion batteries, but early exploration was limited. At the same time, Scott's involvement in South Korea grew, which broadened his influence in the area. Nickel opportunities are rather scarce, with deposits really only appearing in places such as Russia, Australia, Canada, China and Africa. A conventional miner will produce nickel concentrate and sell it to a smelter. The battery industry has no way of dealing with nickel concentrate. Refineries were required. Sulphite nickel is more easily consumed into chemicals and has the benefit of the sulphur within creating its own energy source and acid. Today is the official IPO listing of Leeuwin Metals (ASX:LM1) and to give us the spiel about this exciting new Nickel and Lithium explorer we've got the Managing Director Chris Piggott, alongside Non-Executive Director Scotty Williamson. You may also know as the Managing Director at fellow Nickel explorer and project developer, Blackstone Minerals (ASX:BSX). Chris has a very impressive CV and track record of being involved in some significant discoveries, namely the lodes that helped Bellevue Gold define + 3moz and also the Nova/Bollinger deposit (now operated by IGO). Leeuwin's flagship asset is the William Lake Nickel project, located in the Manitoba province of Canada. This project has a decent opportunity for a large scale Nickel Sulphide project. There is already circa 90,000m of exploration drilling already in the ground, which is a replacement cost of circa $C355. The data from this shows Nickel intersections varying from 200m to +700m downhole, with high Nickel grades in addition to the presence of PGE's. Chris has some decent skin in the game, being the top shareholder so he is heavily aligned with Leeuwin becoming a successful explorer. They're trading on the ASX now, check out LM1 and enjoy my chat with Chris Piggott and Scotty Williamson. **Check out the Leeuwin Metals website for further information** If you would like your company to be a part of Life Of Mine, get in touch with me via matt@lifeofminepodcast.com ***DISCLAIMER*** All Life Of Mine episodes are for information only and may contain forward looking statements that may not eventuate. Scott Williamson, Managing Director of Blackstone Minerals Ltd (ASX:BSX) returns today on Coffee with Samso Episode 131 with insights about the release of their Pre Feasibility Study. The time has finally come for the Blackstone story to move to a stage where investors and shareholders can feel some level of comfort. The Prefeasibility Study (PFS) is a major milestone for the company as it makes it way to becoming a nickel miner and a producer of battery cathodes. The PFS is basically the script to what the end goal will look like in 2025. The next stage of the Definitive Feasibility Study will only differ marginally. - Scott Williamson It has been a while since I last spoke with Scott Williamson and in this episode, we explored the meaning and workings of the PFS. As one of the major steps in the journey, I wanted Scott to talk to us and explain what all the facts and figures mean for the company and shareholders. This episode is what we have been waiting for since the Scoping Study which we talked about in a Coffee With Samso : The First Step in Creating a Green Nickel Mine - Blackstone Minerals Ltd (ASX: BSX) which was back in 2020. When we look back at the very first episode: Blackstone Minerals Limited - Not just mining Nickel, Scott has delivered everything he has spoken about over the time. This new step is again another bold step in the Blackstone journey. However, I feel that this step is probably the last step where shareholders can jump on this story are a "cheap" valuation. It is this thought that I urge readers to Do Your Own Research and decide if this is a good place to put your hard earned money. Tune in to find out if we are overdoing ESG.
