Seattle Parks and Recreation is set to formalize a policy for Denny Blaine Park that preserves its status as a clothing-optional space while addressing concerns from local residents. This move follows last year's controversy over a proposed children's play area, funded by an anonymous donor now revealed to be Stuart Sloan, a prominent Seattle philanthropist. The proposal, which will be discussed in a public meeting on May 16th (today), seeks to balance the interests of the park's naturist and LGBTQ+ communities with those of the affluent neighborhood residents who have voiced complaints about the park's current use.Read the original article at www(dot)planetnude(dot)co This is a public episode. THE THESIS: There is going to be a quadrupling of people fleeing the separate countries of areas owned by The Party, seeing red state refuge. As Christians, we are called to welcome and witness to them. The challenge is, many of them have no idea how their confusion about what constitutes actual compassion is with the evil policies that will destroy everything they touch. As citizens, we must erect ideological firewalls to dissuade these people from brining their sick politics with them.  THE SCRIPTURE & SCRIPTURAL RESOURCES:  Ephesians 6:12 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Matthew 19:16-27  16 Just then a man came up to Jesus and asked, “Teacher, what good thing must I do to get eternal life?” 17 “Why do you ask me about what is good?” Jesus replied. “There is only One who is good. If you want to enter life, keep the commandments.” 18 “Which ones?” he inquired. Jesus replied, “‘You shall not murder, you shall not commit adultery, you shall not steal, you shall not give false testimony, 19 honor your father and mother,' and ‘love your neighbor as yourself.'[b]” 20 “All these I have kept,” the young man said. “What do I still lack?” 21 Jesus answered, “If you want to be perfect, go, sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.” 22 When the young man heard this, he went away sad, because he had great wealth. 23 Then Jesus said to his disciples, “Truly I tell you, it is hard for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of heaven. 24 Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of God.” 25 When the disciples heard this, they were greatly astonished and asked, “Who then can be saved?” 26 Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.” 27 Peter answered him, “We have left everything to follow you! What then will there be for us?” THE NEWS & COMMENT: WARNING: GROSS NUDITY - THIS is Seattle, a Hellscape Poll says 2 out of 3 Seattle voters are considering moving Video shows man stabbing innocent bystander shortly after attack at light rail station The most important issue for black adults? 17% say crime. 3% say racism/diversity. In other words, the inverse of the priorities imagined by antiracist scholars. [AUDIO] - From “Rip Wheeler:” - Dr. Robert Malone points out what a corrupt politician @GovInslee is. [AUDIO] - Matt Markovich: “A multi-block encampment sweep in #Ballard was delayed today for 2 hours after #Seattle Parks would not clean-up w/ anti-sweep activists around - SPD had to come in - then activists spotted me - just another day at the office” [AUDIO] - Markovitch 2: “At the Ballard #sweep - activists had several shouting arguments with neighbors - here's one of them - language warning.” [AUDIO] - Cho: “For the past 2 years, Seattle Councilmember @Lisa_Herbold avoided all my requests for an on camera interview. She chairs Public Safety and Human Services. So I was pleasantly surprised to see her in person. Of course I had to ask about crime in #Seattle” [AUDIO] - Cho 2: “@Lisa_Herbold stuck with it but she was looking for the exit. That's why it was rushed. Got in questions about encampment sweeps, bringing in more @SeattlePD officers, constituents losing trust in council, and those pesky @QFCGrocery ice cream fridge locks. THE LISTENERS: Lisa: Hi Todd:  I Just finished listening to Episode 99 Hour 2 : Audacity Of Kindness. It Was the most beautiful and Gut wrenching message . It Touched me beyond words. I enjoy all of your Podcasts and encourage others to listen as well. Thanks for all you do! ---   ---   --- Katie: Hi Todd!! It's so crazy but I feel like I know you, I listen to you whenever I can. I first found you through dear Rush's program and I am extremely grateful I did. Until Covid I can't honestly say that I paid as much attention as I should have to the political world. But as a mother to 2 beautiful daughters, Brinley who is 5, and Adeline who is 3, I am trying to do everything in my power to protect my children. I come from a medical background, my husband and I are both CRNAs, nurse anesthesiologists, and own our own group which services 11 different ASCs around the metro Atlanta area. My alarm bells went off when the mockingbirds completely shut down any and all discussion of alternative treatments such as ivermectin and hydroxychloroquine. Of course we have protocols that we follow, but when someone's life is on the line you as the medical provider do everything you can think of to save that person's life. The fact that they completely shut down any and all discussion and then called the brave doctors who spoke up crazy really disturbed me. I began to feel like I was in a herd of stampeding sheep running off a cliff and I was the only one looking up going is anyone else concerned about this?!? Thank God I had you and Rush at that time!!! I have continued to listen to you these past 2 years and I just want to say thank you and keep up the good work!! I have come to Jesus again and part of that is because of you so I want to thank you from the absolute bottom of my heart for keeping God in everything you do. I cannot shake that what is going on is biblical and honestly giving it to God has given me some peace. I'm listening to another great podcast by the way… The Bible in a Year Podcast with Father Mike Schmitz. A couple more random thoughts before I end this rambling email… 1. I LOVE the impressions!!! 2. I'm really sorry people made comments about your sinus issues when you had that going on. That hurt my heart for you. 3. Like you I was not a Trump fan in the beginning, I'm sorry to say, but his policies won me over and I will be eternally grateful to him for pulling down the curtain and exposing the vileness of DC and the elite. 4. I voted for him in 2020, I cannot say election because that was a scam and a farce and I get angry about it to this day, BUT I do not want to see him running as President in 2024. 5. I really want to see DeSantis run!! 6. I wholeheartedly agree with you that they will try and pin all of these side effects of the MRNA injections on Trump 7. I was scared into taking the first MRNA injection because I kept hear anecdotal evidence of young healthy parents dying. AND IT IS ONE OF MY BIGGEST REGRETS!!! I had Covid in 2020 and while it wasn't pleasant, definitely didn't feel natural, and I'm pretty sure I hallucinated a bit, it was manageable. I never stopped caring for my children. I took 1 Moderna shot in 2021 and went down a shame spiral and refuse to put anything else into my body. Luckily my employer accepted my religious exemption and did not force me to take any other shots. 8. My children, if I can help it, will never set foot in a government school. My 5 year old has been accepted to a local religious private school and again part of that decision was because of you and all you have opened my eyes to. 9. You and your family are in my prayers and I will continue to pray for you. God Bless and keep up the AMAZING work!!!! See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

The DJ Sessions Event Services Silent Concert Headsets are the perfect option when you want to party with No Noise Restrictions!   You might ask, “What is a Silent Concert??”   Wikipedia states, “A silent concert or silent disco is an event where people dance to music listened to on wireless headphones.   Rather than using a speaker system, music is broadcast via a radio transmitter with the signal being picked up by wireless headphone receivers worn by the participants. Those without the headphones hear no music, giving the effect of a room full of people dancing to nothing.   In the earliest days of silent concerts, before 2005, there would be only one channel available to listen to music through. Over time, the technology moved along to where there were two, and later technology allowed for a third channel that three separate DJs could broadcast over at the same time.   Silent concerts are popular at music festivals as they allow dancing to continue past noise curfews. Similar events are “mobile clubbing” gatherings, where a group of people dance to the music on their personal music players.”   "The DJ Sessions" has taken it a step further by bringing you four channel headsets…….   Our high quality, stereo, stylish, comfortable, long range headsets are not only the best on the market, but the best priced too. Each headset has built in batteries that last for up to ten hours, charge quickly, and even have an auto shutoff feature if there is no signal present for ten minutes. You can even choose to have them go into “dark” mode which is perfect for theatre and formal settings.   Don't worry if you have another silent concert company involved with your production and need additional channels. Our headsets have been tuned to frequencies that are not traditionally used, so there will be no crossover of signals during your events. We can do any type of event you have, up to any number of people you need, to listen to your DJs, performers, speakers, sporting events, movies, or just having different genres of music for your guests. LUZI TUDOR on "Silent Concert" Sunday's presented by The DJ Sessions at Gasworks Park 6/13/21 About LUZI TUDOR - LUZI TUDOR is a Romanian Melodic House & Techno DJ and Producer living in LA. Her journey into music started at an early age. She found solace in the nightlife and rave scene as a refugee from a torn country that encouraged a wildly creative imagination, resilience, and hard work ethic. Growing up in Germany and Portugal after the fall of the regime in Romania, she settled in the U.S. where she started her “after work” career at the age of 22 as a promoter for some of Seattle's major dance clubs. Here she became close friends with many of today's Dance music's heavy hitters that would ignite and encourage her love for music. Working nights in the music scene didn't take away her smarts or ambition, where she spent her days consulting to build engineering teams for large enterprise companies such as Microsoft. Shortly after her success in the corporate world, she built her own successful and leading technology company in the behavioral health space. Despite having an extremely successful career as a tech entrepreneur, she decided after many years in the underground scene to embark on her love for DJing and producing. Honing in on her knack for technology has been an advantage at learning how to produce. She brings a stealth and lightning speed intelligence to understand the technical side of DJing and producing, which undoubtedly complements her natural artistic talent and musical ear. We can do any type of event you have, up to any number of people you need, to listen to your DJs, performers, speakers, sporting events, movies, or just having different genres of music for your guests. machine_logic Pt. 1 on "Silent Concert" Sunday's presented by The DJ Sessions at Gasworks Park 6/13/21 About machine_logic - machine_logic, a curator of deep, hypnotic, progressive dance grooves with a delicate, ethereal chemistry. Always digging deep, his emotive selections tell his story.  He cut his teeth in 1999 at KGRG-Auburn as both music director and host of their industrial radio program, Propaganda Department. From there came a spattering of one-off gigs and club nights, wandering through a variety of styles, before amassing a collection of the emotive and uplifting side of techno, house and breaks. While the music he plays is happy and soulful, he's never afraid to reference his dark roots and heat up the dance floor. He's played throughout the Pacific Northwest, with jumps down the West Coast. He loves playing nightclubs, rooftops, outdoors, and festivals.  About The DJ Sessions Silent Concert Sunday's - The DJ Sessions “Silent Concert Sunday's” are live outdoor events that allow people to share a collective dance music experience.   The DJ Sessions “Silent Concert Sunday's” are live outdoor events that utilize headsets for participants who want enjoy and dance to electronic/hip hop music.   Live music is provided by some of the top DJs in the northwest. He started his music career playing guitar and writing songs in pop punk and emo bands from Spokane in the 2000s, with a first love in electronic music a'la big beats of The Crystal Method, The Chemical Brothers and Fat Boy Slim. In 2019 Eric began working directly with local Seattle Hip Hop artists such as Seven Da Pantha, collaborating, and remixing music of the Seattle scene. He brings Hip Hop to EDM, mixing up Tech House, Trance, PsyTrance, Big Beat with Hip Hop, Trap, and especially some of that Old School Boom Bap. Stay fresh! The setup is so easy that if you can plug a headset into a mobile device, you can have a silent event setup in minutes.   Some of our current/past clients include the Downtown Seattle, Association, Seattle Parks and Recreation, Queen Anne Beer Hall, Eastlake Bar & Grill,  Cascadia Music Festival, Hard Rock Cafe, Think Twice, AC Audio, and our amazing weekly series "The DJ Sessions". When this episode airs on March 9, 2021, we will be two days away from the one-year anniversary of coronavirus (COVID-19) being declared a pandemic by the World Health Organization. The past year has been filled with challenges, adaptations, pivots and so much more. We’re battling multiple health crises on top of economic pressures and racial injustices. And through it all, park and recreation professionals have come together in service of their communities, including taking on new roles and providing essential pandemic response services, while also continuing to deliver their already-life saving services and programs. The work hasn’t been easy, and we know professionals are facing their own mental health issues while they continue to support equity, resiliency and health efforts for the people they serve. To chat about what the past year has meant to park and recreation professionals and to discuss where we go from here, we are thrilled to welcome Jesús Aguirre, NRPA Board Member and superintendent of Seattle Parks and Recreation. Jesús joined us almost exactly a year ago as we explored what effects COVID-19 was already having in parts of the country like Seattle as well as what we thought the year would bring. Also joining us is Allison Colman, NRPA’s Director of Health, who has led much of the COVID-19 response and content creation for NRPA. Tune in to the full episode below to learn about the impact COVID-19 has had on parks and recreation from Jesús and Allison’s perspectives, as well as: Some of the main challenges that park and recreation professionals have faced during the pandemic and how they’re trying to address them. How COVID-19 has uncovered the disparities in our society, as well as in parks and recreation, and what kinds of guidance has been provided to reduce these disparities. What kinds of opportunities have arisen due to the pandemic that could change the future of parks and recreation. The stories of resilience that have stuck out to Jesús and Allison over the past year. How the upcoming COVID-19 and Parks and Recreation: Response and Recovery report, along with the corresponding communications toolkit, COVID-19 and Parks and Recreation: Making the Case for the Future, will assist in educating decision-makers about the essential nature of parks and recreation, and more! For more information about NRPA’s response to COVID-19, as well as available resources for park and recreation professionals, please see our Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) webpage.

On this episode of Open Space Radio, we’re celebrating our birthday! We started Open Space Radio a little over three years ago, and while many of you may have heard us talk about the early days of finding our podcasting groove — with not a whole lot of podcasting experience to pull from — we like to invite you, our listeners, in every once in a while to reflect back on some of our favorite Open Space Radio moments from the past. And we’ve had a lot of favorite moments. Three years later, we still feel so lucky to be able to share with you the conversations we get to have with park and recreation professionals and other incredible people who are truly improving the quality of life for the people in their communities. Since we recently celebrated our official third birthday, we thought it would be a good time to look back on our three most-downloaded episodes to date and share some of our thoughts, as well as give you a bit of a preview of a past episode you may have missed! Tune in to the full episode below to listen to our reflections on the past three years and hear clips from these past episodes: 1:42: Episode 24, “How Risk Play Can Benefit Kids” On this episode, we spoke with Tom Norquist, president of the International Play Equipment Manufacturers Association (IPEMA) about how risk and adventure play is stepping back into the limelight and helping kids’ independence and creativity. We reflect on how this episode is still really relevant today – for one, because of the increased awareness we’re currently seeing around the need for outdoor recreation during the pandemic, and also because we recently worked with IPEMA on guidance for safely using playgrounds during the pandemic. 5:57: Episode 46, “Esports at the Rec Center?” On this episode, we spoke with Neelay Bhatt, vice president of PROS Consulting and past NRPA board member, about what esports are, their impact on parks and recreation and the potential opportunities they present. We reflect on how esports and virtual programming can bridge a gap and reach audiences that haven’t typically participated in traditional park and recreation offerings, and how esports are going to increase in popularity due to the COVID-19 pandemic. 12:48: Episode 61: “How Park and Recreation Leaders are Addressing Coronavirus”  On this episode, we talked with Jesús Aguirre, Superintendent of Seattle Parks and Recreation and NRPA board member, Brian Zimmerman, CEO of Cleveland Metroparks, and Adriane Clutter, Division Chief at Montgomery County Recreation in Maryland, about how each of them was responding to COVID-19 at the time (March 10, 2020) in their respective areas of the country. We reflect on how the stats for this episode are so shocking to look at now compared to when we recorded the episode – for example, at the time of recording for this episode, there were only 432 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the U.S., compared to the more than 5 million current cases. We also discuss our admiration for how well park and recreation professionals have pivoted to serve their communities during such a challenging time (be sure to also listen to the May, June and September bonus episodes for more on this). Thank you so much for your support and for listening to Open Space Radio over the years. We truly love being able to produce this podcast for you and can’t wait to see what the next three years bring! As always, if you have any ideas for future episodes, reach out! Belinda’s environmental journey began when she was growing up in New York. As the first-born child of immigrant parents from south east China, Belinda found herself caught between two worlds. As a young child, she faced discrimination from white peers who saw her as “other” and faced the pressure of her parents’ desire to pursue a “respectable” and economically beneficial career path. To find solace from the pressure and the discrimination, Belinda would seek out the peacefulness of the wooded parks in her neighborhood to “cut down on the voices” in her head so she could hear her own thoughts. She became familiar with the trees and understory plants and “their beauty just helped to quiet the noise”. Those woodlands became sacred and safe spaces for her. From then on, she made a promise to the woodlands to use her life to pay it forward and improve the relationship between humans and nature. Building Environmental Education Programs As an adult, Belinda decided to pursue a career in environmental education. Currently, she is the coordinator for the Urban Food Systems (UFS) Program at Seattle Parks and Recreation (SPR). She oversees 23+ acres of SPR public space dedicated to growing food. Race & social justice are at the center of her work as she has dedicated herself to equitable access for learning in outdoor spaces in service to a vast diversity of people in a variety of urban settings. Through her work experiences she has witnessed a lack of representation of Black, Indigenous, and people of color in her environmental education programs and in the organizations she's worked in. She writes, “The disproportionality is disturbing in light of the diversity of peoples borne from the wilds of this earth. The trees call to me to act.” As a result, Belinda uses her position to cultivate diversity by using intergenerational logic models and racial justice tools, and by serving on the The Race & Social Justice Change Team with the city of Seattle. This helps but she stresses that “we have a long way to go! Empowering Environmentalists of Color Often being the only person of color in her workplace, Belinda felt isolated and yearned for a community that could see and accept her for who she is. Her white workplace peers often tokenized and dismissed discriminatory acts towards her. Wanting to understand the prejudice of dominantly white environmental organizational culture, she started to educate herself on issues of environmental history and environmental justice and attend workshops on the same. Belinda attended a Center for Diversity and Environment (CDE) workshop facilitated by Marcelo Bonta and Queta Gonzales where she had an opportunity to connect with other like-minded people and from different cultural backgrounds. She was also uplifted when she saw leaders of color facilitating the workshop. It was only until she attended that CDE workshop that she felt like she found a place she belonged - “I was in community with people who could see me! See me as a professional!” It was a watershed moment that inspired Belinda and a few colleagues to co-found the Seattle chapter for the Environmental Professionals of Color - affiliated with the CDE. The Seattle Chapter has been successful and growing; Starting with three co-organizers in 2012 to nine co-organizers and over 400 members in 2020! Other Themes Explored Belinda is inspiring and a true pleasure to listen to as she explains the intricacies of her work, the realities of institutional racism, tokenism, and so much more, on this week's episode of Breaking Green Ceilings. If you like discovering new outdoor spaces around Seattle, I was fortunate enough to interview Linnea Westerlind, the author of "Discovering Seattle Parks" on Ep. 55 of The Sea-Town Podcast. She has done her research and has quite a few hidden gems in her book and a fascinating story behind how she got started on the journey to hike all of Seattle's 500 parks in 1 year! https://sea-townpodcast.com/ep-055-linnea-westerlind-author-of-discovering-seattle-parks/ Here are a few of my favorite & lesser known West Seattle parks: • West Crest Park - Westcrest Park is a very large park in the Highland Park neighborhood. It has a great panoramic view of the city skyline, flat open meadow, with a short walking path, and an off-leash dog area. • Ercolini Park - Named for Joe (1891-1984) and Julia (1894-1979) Ercolini, who sold produce grown at this site for several decades beginning in the 1930s, this park is a playground with a small lawn in a neighborhood spot.
 • Lincoln Park - Amazingly diverse for its size, Lincoln includes 4.6 miles of walking paths, 3.9 miles of bike trails, five picnic shelters, acres of playfields, and an outdoor heated saltwater pool and bathhouse.
 • Jack Block Park - is a 15-acre park in the West Seattle neighborhood. Situated on the northwest corner of the Port of Seattle's Terminal 5.
 • Camp Long - is one of Seattle's best kept secrets. Along with the many hiking trails, it is a popular event space, has cabins for rent and is the home of Schurman Rock, built in 1939, is believed to be North America's first man-made climbing structure.
 • Schmitz Preserve Park - has huge old growth forest, walking paths, hiking and with only a 1/2 mile walk, provides easy access to Whale Tail park (by Alki Elementary) and Alki Beach, for those crazy summer days where Alki is super crowded and impossible to find parking.
 • Fauntleroy Creek Park - A densely wooded patch of forest in West Seattle, Fauntleroy Park has a network of trails and paths great for wandering, hiking and dog-walking. We at Sea-Town love to spend as much time as we can outside! Comment & share below your favorite park spots in West Seattle! Enjoy the fresh air! Happy day after Presidents day!

Today’s episode of Seattle Growth Podcast looks at question that has affected many throughout Seattle: how should the city deal with tents and encampments in public spaces? This question is important to our community’s homeless residents hanging on to their last few possessions and to the business leaders and residents who encounter unsanctioned encampments on their commutes, near their homes, and in their parks. Today’s episode features Dae Shik Kim Hawkins Jr., an activist and organizer of Nikita Oliver’s 2017 Mayoral campaign. Hawkins Jr. explains why he advocates for homeless individuals and gives insight into “Stop the Sweeps” efforts. You will also hear from Ian Gordon, business manager of the Local 1239 union representing Seattle Parks and Recreation employees. He shares the challenges Parks employees have in maintaining spaces for use by the public.

This week's guest is Linnea Westerlind, author of “Discovering Seattle Parks: A Local's Guide”. Linnea graduated from college with a degree in journalism and mass communications and public relations with a passion for the nonprofit sector. Today, Linnea is a mom of three who lives in West Seattle. After having her first kid in 2009, she came up with the goal of visiting every park in Seattle in a year, as a way to get out of the house. As life would have it, things didn't exactly go as planned. After 4 years and having twins, she had visited nearly 500 parks with her kids and documented her journey and the parks on her blog. This project allowed Linnea to explore different neighborhoods and places she had never been before. After just under 4 years, she checked the last park off her list. After completing the project, she found herself itching for the next thing. She wondered what she wanted to do next. That's when she had the idea for the book. Linnea went back to 120 of her favorite parks and narrowed down the most interesting ones. It has been about a 10-year journey for Linnea and she now has almost 500 parks on her blog. She has become known as the “Park Nut” and the “Park Expert”. Linnea loves parks because they are free, and they are equalizers. She enjoys seeing how parks are diversely used. Linnea was able to use this project to combine her love of writing, photography, exploring and spending time outside. Growing up, Linnea grew up on the east side. Although, she now lives on the west side where she has lived for 11 years. Her family ended up in West Seattle by chance. She claims she is very thankful they ended up in the house and neighborhood they did due to the strong community atmosphere. Learn more about Linnea, her blog, her book and her journey in this episode. The 2016 demolition and relocation of Seattle’s beloved literary center, The Richard Hugo House, inspired comments and musings from local luminaries on the future of our city’s cultural and physical landscape. Among them are recent mayoral candidate Cary Moon and Hugo House founding director Frances McCue, who take our stage for a conversation on McCue’s latest poetry collection Timber Curtain. The pair offered a mediation on the intersection of poetry and urban planning, and the ethics of the myths-of-place we create for ourselves. They invited us to explore the space between ramshackle and remodel, merging literature and engineering perspectives to reflect on our city’s bygone or transformed structures—and the institutions they represent. McCue and Moon examined poems originally written as narration for McCue’s forthcoming 2018 documentary Where the House Was, and discussed the aesthetic, social, cultural, and political transformation of Seattle. Frances McCue is a poet and essayist, and the founding director of Richard Hugo House in Seattle from 1996-2006. In 2011, McCue won the Washington State Book Award for her poetry collection The Bled and placed as a finalist for a second book The Car That Brought You Here Still Runs. Her first poetry collection, The Stenographer’s Breakfast, won the Barnard New Women’s Poetry Prize. Cary Moon is a political activist, urban planner, and engineer who was the recent runner up in Seattle’s 2016 Mayoral election. She has provided professional expertise to many Seattle departments, commissions, community groups, and committees including the Seattle Design Commission, the Seattle Department of Transportation, and the Seattle Parks and Recreation Department. She has received multiple Awards including The Stranger’s Political Genius Award in 2007 and the Municipal League’s Citizen of the Year in 2009. Recorded live at Seattle University by Town Hall Seattle on January 16, 2018.
