This week, the society doubles down on the animation, as they watch the 1963 Disney classic The Sword In the Stone, directed by Wolfgang Reitherman and starring Karl Swenson, Sebastian Cabot, and Rickie Sorensen. Long-time listeners to the podcast may be shocked to find the consensus that bubbles up during this episode - you never know what alliances may form around here! However, everyone can agree that tissues may be necessary for the squirrel scene, and that a witches' duel is good entertainment. What was it about Arthurian legends that so captivated 1960s audiences? Depending on who's doing the retelling, and the century they're living in, the tales of King Arthur and his knights vary wildly from stodgy conservative fables, to shockingly taboo love triangles, to intriguing surrealistic sorcery. When Lerner and Loewe's play Camelot arrived on the scene in 1960 it quickly became a smash hit – an adaptation of T. E. White's Freudian-heavy text, it starred Richard Burton, Julie Andrews and put Robert Goulet on the map. Camelot was further imprinted onto the public consciousness in 1963 when, after the assassination of her husband, Jackie Kennedy went on record to say it was one of Jack's favorite soundtracks. In this episode, Bart and Jenna dive headfirst into a world of myth, magic, legend and a whole lot of jousting. As they weave their way through a series of largely mediocre films that seem like they should've been made for children – y'know, if it wasn't for all that nudity and violence – they look ever forward. Moving towards a shining ideal that they can see but cannot reach. For, like the Knights of the Round Table before them, they seek out the one true film that will unlock the truth and righteousness. A holy object that will single-handedly bring back the glory that was once known as… !!!The following films are discussed:• The Magic Sword (1962) Directed by Bert I. Gordon Starring Basil Rathbone, Estelle Winwood, Gary Lockwood• Lancelot and Guinevere (1963) Directed by Cornel Wilde Starring Cornel Wilde, Jean Wallace, Brian Aherne• Siege of the Saxons (1963) Directed by Nathan Juran Starring Janette Scott, Ronald Lewis, Ronald Howard• The Sword in the Stone (1963) Directed by Wolfgang Reitherman Voices by Rickie Sorensen, Sebastian Cabot, Karl Swenson• Willy McBean and his Magic Machine (1965) Directed by Arthur Rankin Jr. Voices by Larry D. Mann, Billie Mae Richards, Alfie Scopp• Camelot (1967) Directed by Joshua Logan Starring Richard Harris, Vanessa Redgrave, Franco Nero

I've Heard It Both Ways: The Maybe Missing, Maybe Made-Up City of the CaesarsAshley kicks off our Chilean triptych with the centuries-long search for the legendary Patagonian city, La Ciudad de Los Césares, or The City of the Caesars. The first references to this mysterious, treasure-filled city can be traced back to a 1526 expedition led by Sebastian Cabot. Like many stories passed mainly by word of mouth, the details of who built the city, who inhabits it, and what kinds of treasure it contains have varied widely over the intervening years, but there are still those who believe The City of the Caesars still hidden somewhere in the vast and sparsely-populated region of Patagonia. For desert, Ashley offers a selection of other “lost cities,” some rooted in fact and some in fiction.Find Kudzu Killers podcast on your favorite social media or streaming platform at https://www.kudzukillers.com/ (https://www.kudzukillers.com/)To stay on top of all the latest from Pineapple Pizza Podcast, be sure to check out our website at http://www.pineapplepizzapodcast.com (www.pineapplepizzapodcast.com) where you will find links to merch, Patreon and a variety of ways to support the show, as well as detailed episode descriptions and regional specials. The Power of Perseverance with Kathy Garver “Visionaries and creatives tend to be more emotionally sensitive.” — Dianne A. Allen 2020 has been a tough year for everybody which makes perseverance a relevant topic to talk about. Think about the hard times you opted to persevere when you had all the chance to give up. After all, what can you achieve by giving up? Winners in life don’t quit. In this week’s episode, we have Kathy Garver to share with us her journey and the importance of perseverance. Part One of ‘The Power of Perseverance with Kathy Garver’ Back in high school, Kathy started wondering what her life purpose is. Living in Los Angeles, her mother enrolled her into a singing and dance class, with the expectation of becoming the next Shirley Temple. She didn't start working professionally until she was eight. Hollywood's legendary Cecil B. DeMille was one of the first to recognize Kathy's distinct talents. Originally hired for a small part in the epic motion picture "The Ten Commandments," Kathy was noticed by the great director who had special scenes written into the movie to highlight the little girl. This followed her first film, The Night of the Hunter, directed by Academy Award winner Charles Laughton. “In the entertainment business, you have to be able to do a lot of things.” – Kathy Garver Kathy doesn't suffer from the sometimes-exaggerated maladies common to former child actors. The hardest thing is being accepted as someone who has depth. Her parents stressed education and normalcy through her childhood and during her Family Affair days, in learning to think and work independently. One of the most significant conclusions of why so many famous child stars did not make the transition from being a well-renowned personage, well-reviewed, to jumping over to success is because: One, the parents took all their money, and when they got to be 18, they didn't have anything. They were bitter and resentful. Two, they didn't have an education or any other skill sets on which to maneuver and move on to. Three, they got depressed because they weren't in the limelight anymore. They went from the cute little kid to the awkward teenager, and nobody was buying in Hollywood. The emotionality led them to drugs. It's a serious thing that happens to other child stars. Part Two of ‘The Power of Perseverance with Kathy Garver’ Kathy's parents have always been supportive but when they moved from Los Angeles to San Bernardino, her awkward transition away from the limelight turned out to be a blessing in disguise. Ms. Garver was a freshman majoring in speech at UCLA when she was tested for a television series entitled Family Affair. Kathy, deemed "perfect" to star as "Cissy" with Brian Keith as "Uncle Bill" and Sebastian Cabot as "Mr. French" performed for five years in one of the warmest and most enduring series of the 1960s and '70s. With Anissa Jones as "Buffy" and Johnny Whitaker as "Jody," the show continues to be popular today, pleasing old and new audiences worldwide – a true classic. “Be joyful every day and make the most of who you are.” – Kathy Garver Kathy is also very much in demand for her numerous vocal characterizations. She's a stand out in the very competitive field of voices overs for cartoons, commercials, toys, and audiobooks. She voiced "Pepper" an automotive whiz in the Chuck Norris Karate Kommandos series and "Firestar," a mutant superhero in the Spiderman and his Amazing Friends TV series. Ms. Garver produced, narrated, and wrote lyrics and original music for eight audio Beatrix Potter tales and eight Mother Goose based audiotapes for Smarty Pants, Inc. Kathy's Beatrix Potter tapes have sold over two million copies and have won numerous awards. Ms. Garver has also won two Audie Awards, one for her narration of The World's Shortest Stories, the other in 2004 for her direction of Amy Tan in The Opposite of Fate read by the author. Kathy has recorded books for Brilliance Audio, Dove, Listen, and Live and can be downloaded at the Timberwolfpress.com site. Her voice has been heard in Apollo 13 (which was awarded the Academy Award for sound), Ransom, Back Draft, and Jingle all the Way, all directed by Ron Howard. It takes hard work, dedication, and focus to accomplish something. No matter what your talent is, use all of them to spark inspiration in others. Be proud of yourself, no matter what circumstances you're in. Don't let your negative thoughts consume you and make you think you'll never achieve your goals. About Kathy Garver Kathy was born in Long Beach, California to Hayes and Rosemary Garver joining her sister, Beverly, and brothers, Hayes, Jr. and Lance. Beverly entered UCLA at a precocious 15 years old at the time Kathy started working professionally. During Ms. Garver’s teenage years, Kathy added radio and stage to her burgeoning film and television career. Kathy now has her own family affair. She met her husband of 33 years, business executive David Travis, on a tennis court in Palm Springs – truly a love match. Their son Reid Garver Travis, now 23, continues the tradition of show business by appearing in national commercials, TV, movies and by doing voice overs. Most fondly remembered for her starring role as “Cissy” in the long running CBS international television hit, “Family Affair”, Kathy Garver has also garnered critical acclaim in movies, stage, radio, voice-over animation, and audio book narration. Ms. Garver has used her wealth of experience and education to entertain and instruct thousands of people with her exciting and successful motivational and interactive speeches and presentations. From Keynote speaker to host to workshop leader, Kathy Garver has enriched the lives of those who have been able to listen and learn from her inspirational communications. Kathy is available for corporate events, hosting, emceeing, moderating groups, giving lectures, workshops, keynote addresses and tailoring specific programs for the needs of her clients. She includes workbooks and takes home audio albums for her clients and audience members. Today, Kathy Garver is an accomplished and versatile actress, appearing in such films as Sweet November, The Princess Diaries, MOW'S such as FBI Murders and Stay the Night with Guest Star roles on many TV shows. She is a sought-after celebrity on Game shows, winning top money for charities as she did on “Street Smarts” and other reality programs. How to Connect with Dianne A. On this week's episode, we dive into one of our favorite childhood movies...that may have not aged well for us. We talk about new favorites joining Disney productions like Sebastian Cabot and the Sherman Brothers, and we go deep into some film theory and discuss primary and secondary stories, why Madam Mim is NOT the villain of the movie, and why the titular Sword is not a MacGuffin plot device - It philosophizing and funny dialogue quotes galore! --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app
Sebastian Cabot is usually associated with his exploration of North America, but he also spent time in exploring the Rio de la Plata. Seduced by rumours of silver, he abandoned the mission he was given to follow in the footsteps of Aleixo Garcia.

Every week on The Twilight Zone Zone,we go down Donald Liebenson's list The 26 Episodes We Talk About When We Talk About The Twilight Zone from Vanity Fair, chronologically by release date and compare two episodes and choose which one to recommend. This week we watched “A World of His Own” and “The Howling Man.” From the Article: “A Nice Place to Visit” The Twilight Zone also delighted in dicking around characters in need of retribution. Another case in point: Rocky Valentine, a petty criminal shot to death. A jovial guide (Sebastian Cabot) in the afterlife tends to his every desire, giving him a swinging pad, sure-thing bank robberies, and beautiful dolls on demand. Sounds like heaven, right? This was the first episode to employ a classic Twilight Zone trope, in which the come-upper gets the last maniacal laugh at the eternal expense of the come-upped. (See also on this list: “The Grave” and “Will the Real Martian Please Stand Up?”) “The Howling Man” You’re lost in a torrential storm. You seek refuge in a foreboding castle. Inside are members of some kind of fanatical religious cult that is keeping a man imprisoned. The cult leader insists the man is actually the devil himself. Who are you going to believe: the desperate man pleading to be set free, or a staff-carrying John Carradine? In the meantime, please continue to rate and review us! On this day in Tudor history, 10th May 1553, near the end of King Edward VI’s reign, the first expedition of the Company of Merchant Adventurers, left London in search of a Northeast passage for Asia. It failed in its aim, and Willoughby and his crew died, but Richard Chancellor was able to come to a very beneficial agreement with Ivan the Terrible. In the early 1970s, the Federal Trade Commission published this album, which consisted of PSAs on various consumer protection issues, most of which were read by B-list celebrities: Shirley Jones, Leonard Nimoy, Karen Valentine, Sebastian Cabot, Burt Reynolds, Clu Gulager, Carol Burnett, Lloyd Haynes, and Beverly Garland. I had my dear pal Poseidon from the very funny blog Poseidons Underground as my co-host. We were delighted to have the very busy Kathy Garver, best known as Cissy in Family Affair. Kathy started acting at three years old. She was in some pretty big flicks. She was the double for Pearl, the adorable tyke being menaced by one of my dreamboats Robert Mitchum In Night Of The Hunter Kathy was in the boat scene when they are floating away from their moms murderer and their fiendish stepfather. She told us about her memories of Robert Mitchum, Charles Laughton, who directed this film and never directed again. Also we head what a sweetie Lillian Gish was. It was not well received at the time but today it is considered a great film and that Charles Laughton did a great job. The cinematography was amazing. Then she told us about her scene in The Bad Seed she did with Shelley Fabares calling Rhoda (Patty McCormick) a murderer. The scene got cut. She was devastated and her mom wisely told her the scene was too good and they did not want them upstaging Rhoda. It worked. After The Bad Seed she played a slave girl in The Ten Commandments and told us about the actors there. We finally got To Family Affair. WE talked Brian Keith AKA as Uncle Beeeyooooo. Sebastian Cabot and the adorable cherubs Buffy and Jody. Poseidon told us he does not write sad stuff but did for Family Affair. We talked the amazing guest stars, Ida Lupino, Myrna Loy (who Knew) and Heather Angel as Mr French's veddy english nanny Miss Haverstraw. I taled to Poseidon on an earlier podcast that the saddest major fiml actor on one of the shows was Dana Andrews. He appeared as a Friend of Beeyooooo and they moppets found out he was in the slammer for a bit for stealing money from his company. The horror part was Buffy and Jody decide to hide their piggy banks from Dana, the thief..Poor Dana had to watch these two kids talking about him as they hide their piggy banks. His face.. Kathy had to leave us after a half an hour so Poseidon and me talked more about some of these things. I want to thank Kathy Garver for taking time out of her busy squedule to come on the show. My dear Poseidon for being a great co-host. Mostly our listeners. Actor/Producer EUGENE MAZZOLA, literally grew up in the film business. He started out as http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0142273/ (Anthony Caruso’s) baby in John Houston's 1950's Classic, The Asphalt Jungle. Later, In his adult years, he appeared in films like: 1956's Terror in a Texas Town alongside actors Sterling Hayden, and Sebastian Cabot, and the 1960 film The Rebel Breed, along with Legendary Actress and Oscar winner, Rita Moreno. His amazing career also found him playing roles on the small screen in shows like: The Rifleman, Rawhide, Bonanza, Wagon Train, Sea Hunt, Highway Patrol and The Street of San Francisco to name a few. But to most generations he is probably best best remembered for playing Yul Brenner's son Ramses' lll, in Cecil B. DeMille's Iconic, 1956 Masterpiece, The Ten Commandments.
