Subscribe today for access to our full catalog of bonus episodes, including 2+ new episodes every month! www.patreon.com/boysbiblestudy We're back with coverage of TOUCHED BY AN ANGEL, the television series that may hold the key to understanding the American psyche once and for all. The popular 90s and 2000s era show uses an “angel of the week” format as each story is about different angels inflicting themselves upon the lives of hapless humans. This week we focus on SIGN OF THE DOVE, a dueling angel experience which interweaves stories of Andrew (angel of death, portrayed by John Dye) and Monica (the show's protagonist, played by Roma Downey) helping two humans whose life paths have woven for generations. Andrew tells us the story of a human family he's been taking to heaven since the 1200s, including delightful time travel skits in period costumes (such as Revolutionary War-era powdered wigs.) Ben Mason is the last of this family; unfortunately he doesn't know he's about to perish in a bombing by his neighbor Nick Freeman, who doesn't mean harm to Ben but wants to collect insurance money and will kill Ben by accident. The history of a freed African American slave could be the key that unlocks Nick's humanity and prevents him from setting the fateful bomb. While we're waiting at the edge of our seats, we ponder the angel logic of TBAA. Why don't angels drink alcohol? Why do they make themselves visible to some humans but not all? What is it they can really do? TOUCHED BY AN ANGEL reviews have become our favorite fodder for podcast episodes because they are so dense with insane moments and inconsistent world building. Hopefully our review of “The Sign of the Dove” will be one you write about in your family Bible to remember forever. Since its founding in 2013, JobNimbus has quietly transformed the way contractors manage their businesses. Now, with a staggering $330 million in Series B funding, the company is making waves in the trades and asking big questions about where the industry is headed. In this hard-hitting episode, John Dye sits down with Ben Hodson, CEO of JobNimbus, to uncover how this record-breaking investment drives the next chapter for contractors. They discuss the rise of automation and AI, the shifting role of tradespeople in an increasingly business-dominated industry, and how JobNimbus is fighting to put the power back in the hands of those who build. Has business killed the soul of the trades? Or are we on the verge of a revolution that will bring it back? Ben and John explore the answers and offer a bold vision for contractors' future. Don't miss this game-changing conversation.
Della Reese (1931-2017) was a singer, talk show host, actor, ordained minister, and much more. Her career, which spanned seven decades, was marked by faith, resilience, and her ability to break barriers in predominantly white and male-dominated industries. In 1969, Ms. Reese made history as the first black woman to host her own talk show. Almost more variety show than talk show, every episode offered an entertaining mix of sketch comedy, music, and interviews. Before her own talk show, Ms. Reese established herself as a prominent television personality by appearing and performing on shows led by Merv Griffin, Ed Sullivan, Phil Donahue, and Johnny Carson. In fact, she was chosen as the first black woman to sub for Johnny Carson as host of the Tonight Show. But aside from her earlier accomplishments, Ms. Reese is perhaps best known to today's audiences for her popular television series, “Touched by an Angel,” where she appeared with Roma Downey, John Dye, Valerie Bertinelli, and a guest cast that featured many of the biggest names in television and film. In her 1997 memoir, “Angels Along the Way: My Life with Help from Above,” Ms. Reese reflects on the challenges she faced and overcame throughout her life, including racism and financial exploitation, while maintaining a steadfast commitment to helping others. It's an inspirational look at a remarkable life. From Ebola outbreaks in Africa to the spread of mpox and, of course, COVID, a disease that emerges in one place can threaten people the world over. Governments, nonprofit organizations, and pharmaceutical companies all get involved in detecting and fighting these outbreaks, but there's another player that flies under the radar. The US military has to prepare and protect personnel and their families, and they don't keep their work to themselves. Just outside of Washington DC, Ft. Detrick houses a series of laboratories where military and civilian scientists and technicians work together to predict what the next outbreak might be – and to help defend against it.At the US Army Medical Research Institute of Infectious Diseases (USAMRIID), researchers do the basic science of developing vaccines, diagnostic tests, and treatments for dangerous germs. In this episode, we visit the labs and speak with Dr. John Dye, deputy director of the Foundational Sciences Directorate at USAMRIID, who tells host Maggie Fox about the threats facing the world, and why the US military is involved in fighting them.
SHOW NOTESThis Friday the 13th Dan is on location at UTSA, with Secular Student Alliance and special guests! Not to worry folks, none of them are surnamed Voorhees.Zach Shedd speaks with Dan about creating secular communities, and our first caller asks the hosts how to approach conversations with a budding atheist. Dan recommends Street Epistemology, and agrees with Zach's point that setting boundaries is important. We hit up our audience for some Q&A. Some strange Johnny guy asks Dan if he prefers the live show format to the remote, and Jamal asks what was most difficult about Dan's deconversion process. Our next guest is John Dye, he studies volcanoes, and erupts into the background of the SSA and why he joined. Needs more magma. An audience member suspects that her child may be faking faith to further their romantic pursuits. Neither Dan nor John recommend it, and John is very clear that he will not be dating any crystal cuties. Finally, Madison shares a story about his first date experience with a spiritualist. After a quick chat with John about his deconversion, Paul in the audience asks how to get involved with the secular movement. A former Muslim asks how to find community after leaving religion, and finally Donovan asks how the SSA approaches activism. We take a call from Michael, who asks our hosts for their perspective on the recent odious activities of the Supreme Court. Surprising zero people across the globe, our hosts are champions of women's bodily autonomy. This is why activism is so important!Back to our audience, Zoe encourages locals to show up for the Bans off our Bodies protest, and Jamal asks how to promote positive atheism. Cody Valdez joins us on stage, and shares his experiences as a newcomer to the atheist movement. Next we'll talk to Larry, who has a grandson starting at U of T, and asks Cody how he can get involved! The power of SSA grows!Shifting back to our audience emcee, Johnny talks to another SSA member who expresses his gratitude for the exposure today. We're happy to do it! Joel asks our hosts what other beliefs they've shed, and Dan admits he used to have some misguided views about the LGBTQ+ community. It's ok Dan, we forgive you. Tanjil calls in and asks about coming out as an atheist to family. Our hosts recommend kindness and discretion, and an audience member offers his perspective.Hal has an argument from incredulity that will shock and amaze. Jk, no it won't. Dan and Cody make short work of this, but Hal seems nice.Special guests Christy Powell and Jim Barrows join the conversation with some banter before we wrap up, thanks for watching!

When you look back at Milwaukee's storied past, it's hard to find a neighborhood more culturally rich than Mitchell Street. Once called “The downtown of Milwaukee's South Side”, this area was predominantly inhabited by Polish immigrants, changing over the years to welcome a diverse Latino population as well. The Mitchell Street story is uplifting, and a true testament to how a community can evolve with and stay true to both its residents and its roots. As you may have heard, First Federal Bank of Wisconsin recently acquired Mitchell Bank to expand our presence and serve more communities in the Milwaukee area. So on today's episode, we're here with a special ode to Historic Mitchell Street. Joining us today is John Dye, owner of Bryant's Cocktail Lounge, At Random, and The Jazz Estate, Jorge Lopez, owner of Lopez Bakery and Restaurant, and Ed Shaefer, the President and CEO at First Federal Bank. We're truly honored that these valued community members are joining us on the podcast, and can't wait to tell you the neighborhood's story through the eyes of some great folks who have seen it across its many stages.

He was behind some of the largest campaigns the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints have produced. Light the World, Meet the Mormons, etc.His ability to make things grow comes from the fact that John truly cares about others and desires to lift others up. This is his passion. I was privileged to sit down with him for a bit and chat about his life, his success, his failures, and what kind of legacy he wanted to leave the world. Enjoy!

The Democratic Republic of Congo is experiencing the second-largest outbreak of Ebola. As of June 1, the World Health Organization confirmed 1,900 cases with 1,245 confirmed deaths. An international response team from Battelle’s National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases’ Integrated Research Facility traveled to the DRC to help train local responders on testing Ebola samples. The team also goes to Liberia to work on ongoing clinical trials. Bonnie Dighero-Kemp and Gregory Kocher join producer Heather Mongilio in the podcast studio to speak about their work with Ebola. Fort Detrick’s connection to Ebola extends back to the late 1970s, when Ebola was discovered. Later in the episode, Dr. John Dye, with the U.S. Army Medical Research Institute of Infectious Diseases, joins Mongilio to talk about the hemorrhagic fever and the advances USAMRIID has made. Finally, Cols. Nancy and Jerry Jaax, who worked for USAMRIID in the 1980s and were featured in Richard Preston’s “The Hot Zone,” now a National Geographic Channel show, will speak with Mongilio.

We welcome to the Booth this week the very talented and vibrant Jerre Dye. Recommended by a recent genius guest, Cecelia Wingate, Jerre is a Southerner by birth, having grown up in a small town in Mississippi. He is a playwright, actor, director and opera librettist, now living in Chicago. Fellow Mississippi playwright Beth Henley, whose play Crimes of the Heart earned her a Pulitzer Prize in 1981, praises his lyrical voice and distinctly Southern sensibilities, proclaiming him "a vibrant force in the American theater." Jerre's plays Cicada and Distance were both nominated for Joseph Jefferson awards. First off, Frank tells us about seeing our friend Christine McHugh's one-woman play Parents Must Be Dead at the Greenhouse Theatre. By all accounts, the evening was a smashing success, with a full house and great audience response. Congratulations, Christine! We learn that the somewhat odd title refers to a friend of Christine's preference listing on a dating website. A bit maudlin, but at least he's honest. Gary reminds our listeners that they can hear the Booth One crew interviewed on the Rick Kogan After Hours radio program on the WGN website. To listen to Rick's jaw-droppingly generous words about our show, click here. Jerre takes us through his upbringing, his school days in Memphis, and his foray into acting in Hollywood. Big brother John Dye was his mentor, inspiration and role model. Highlights from his LA days include teaching Lily Tomlin how to clog(!?) and appearing as a dancer in the 1993 film of The Beverly Hillbillies with Jim Varney. His mentor at University of Memphis was Gloria Baxter, who was a classmate and friend of Frank Galati's at Northwestern. As film fans, we love a well-written movie review, even if it's a pan. A couple of snippets from the the recent Keanu Reeves/Winona Ryder film reviewed in the NY Times: "'Destination Wedding' is torture."; "Nothing is as ailing as the screenplay." Almost worth going to see it just for the train wreck! Jerre talks about becoming an opera librettist and how that writing style and process differs from, and is similar to, his playwrighting. He first got involved with opera six years ago doing a project in Memphis creating several different stories about the people who worked at a now-shuttered Sears distribution complex. His opera career has advanced from there to the point where he's now at work on a project called Taking Up Serpents with composer Kamala Sankaram to be presented by Washington National Opera at the Kennedy Center. The piece runs January 11-13 in Washington. Jerre has many other projects in the works and we're excited to see them come to life. As Jerre says, "Everybody's born with a story. It's like a spell." In our Good Times and Bum Times segment, you'll hear about the first raw-meat vending machine now operational in upstate New York (a dream invention for carnivore Gary), and you'll meet Jessie, the foul-mouthed Macaw who shocked rescuers on a London roof top with a barrage of F-bombs. Jerre and the boys play a little Chat Pack and we learn about Olympic dream events, books they would write, and least-favorite education courses they've taken. As always, this segment reveals some fascinating insight into our guest and hosts. Kiss Of Death: Nabi Tajima, recognized as the World's Oldest Person Born in 1900 in Araki, Japan, Ms. Tajima was the last known person born in the 19th century, and one of the few people who could recall a time before World War I. She had nine children and 160 descendents, including great-great-great grandchildren. Nabi Tajima was 117. Read the full Washington Post article here.

The Android Authority team goes outside of their general zone and visits SXSW, the film/music/tech festival held in the wonderful city of Austin, Texas! After a few days of getting to know the show itself, Joshua Vergara was joined by co-founder Darcy Lacouvee and Managing Editor Nirave Gondhia to attend a number of panels teaching the in and outs of virtual reality and 360 video. The gist of the panels focused on storytelling, the application of VR for more than just the entertainment business, and the future of the next big thing in content creation. In this podcast, however, the three were joined by a native Texan now hailing from Louisiana, writer John Dye. Many of you fans of Android Authority have probably read John's writing on the website and enjoyed his way with words. So, without any further ado, listen (and watch on YouTube) the guys gush about VR cameras and videos! The Android Authority Podcast - discussing topics in Android every week.
