Tread Perilously celebrates its 400th podcast with the final episode of Supertrain -- "Where Have You Been Billy Boy." When the FBI arranges for a fugitive transfer aboard Supertrain, Randall gets anxious. But will it matter to an aggressive magazine writer, a pregnant woman, a newlywed couple, and an old man when the fugitive -- who continues to maintain his innocence -- accidentally takes them hostage in the dining car? Will Randall be able to handle the situation? Will Flood make things worse? And will a small town sheriff turn Supertrain into a passenger liner of blood? Meanwhile, Penny gets accosted by a traveler. Erik momentarily forgets Skipjack. Justin hears the laugh track for the first time ... again! The sound editors who added the canned laughter finally get memorialized with a sketch. Penny is chosen as Supertrain's series MVP. Justin recalls the train is nuclear powered and supersonic. A discussion about airplane disaster movies breaks out. The pair also stump for Carnival of Souls. Justin finds a new role for Weird Baby Man. Surprising guest stars lead to many potential future podcasts. Rue McClanahan makes a surprising appearance. A final analysis of Supertrain is made and the ghost of Bob Crane haunts the proceedings.
Today's guest is the lovely Skye Hamilton, co-founder and creative director of Bobby Seaford, which is the home of Australia's saltiest homewares, and Skipjack Maps, the purveyors of hydrographic maps carefully crafted to inspire coastal escapades. Skye has been through a number of restarts in her life and career to be the person we meet today, through chronic health challenges, motherhood and of course that lovely little pandemic we're all so fond of. *Trigger warning: we chat through her experience with chronic health conditions including Type 1 Diabetes, Migraines and Mental-health challenges. She's a woman who continues to craft a life that's more aligned with health needs, her family's happiness (did I mention that she co-founded Bobby Seaford and Skipjack Maps with her partner Nic?) and that allows her to tap into her impressive creativity. We had the pleasure of interviewing Urethane over Zoom video! Pop-punk outfit URETHANE featuring legendary Hall of Fame professional skateboarder and guitarist Steve Caballero has signed to Cyber Tracks. Their debut album Chasing Horizons was produced, engineered, and mixed by Cameron Webb (Motörhead, Megadeth, Alkaline Trio, NOFX, Pennywise) and is due out on September 24, 2021. The band will be touring as well including some festival appearances. The album title was derived from the song “Wyoming” – a song about giving up, running away, and starting over. “There is a line where the character is on an open road chasing the horizon and it just made sense,” explains bassist Chad Ruiz. “During the short life of this band we have been chasing horizons non-stop. It's that kind of fun feeling you get when you're just out on the road going for it. We are very blessed to be chasing horizons.”Chasing Horizons is jam-packed with catchy choruses and melodic hooks that range from mid-tempo sing-a-longs to aggressive fist-pumping screamers. Also, it was written during quarantine so the lyrical theme leans a bit dark. From depression (“Gravity”) to narcissism (“Avalanches” feat. Toby Morse of H2O) to the bad traits and genetics we inherit and are forced to live with (“Inheritance” feat. Jim Lindberg of Pennywise) to being your own worst enemy (“Love Letter Bombs”) to contentious relationships (“What You Get”) to love conquering even the darkest times (“What Becomes Of Us”) – lead vocalist and guitarist Tim Fennelly examines the challenges of everyday life.URETHANE formed during the infectious pandemic in 2020. The lineup consists of vocalist/guitarist Tim Fennelly (War Fever), guitarist Steve Caballero (The Faction, Odd Man Out, Soda), bassist Chad Ruiz (Skipjack), and drummer Dylan Wade (The Bombpops). Their musical roots are undeniably influenced by punk rock, pop-punk, and melodic hardcore. Chasing Horizons is set for a September 24, 2021 release via Cyber Tracks.URETHANETim Fennelly – Vocals/GuitarSteve Caballero – GuitarChad Ruiz – BassDylan Wade – DrumsWe want to hear from you! People, people: it's just a sandwich. Or maybe it's your ticket to riches...
There are nearly 8 billion people on the planet. And those 8 billion people need to eat. And especially in the developed nations, they eat a lot. That means that companies are constantly looking for new and abundant food sources to supply the ever-increasing need for food. One of those sources is the skipjack tuna. This particular breed of tuna is insanely abundant and they breed quickly. How quickly? Instead of the chicken of the sea, you could reasonably call them the rabbits of the sea. They are able to breed young and year-round, which means that their population is able to replenish itself very quickly. Given that some of the species' predators, like certain kinds of sharks, have entered the endangered species list, fishing them might actually be helping control them and preventing them from forcing out other species. Yet, given the increased demand for tuna, that might not be the case for much longer. Sadly, that is the way things typically progress. We push on one specific source until it is threatened and then move onto another until we finally learn to manage the source in a responsible way. Think of how bison were hunted nearly to extinction as America expanded into the West. Much like the skipjack is currently, their supply seemed to be infinite. Obviously, we learned that was not the case, but barely in time to save the species. Then there is the way the tuna are harvested. Once upon a time, the way they and most other fish were pulled from the ocean was a little different from the way your grandpa pulled trout out of the river. The poles were just bigger and the lines stronger but the principles were the same. However, what has happened is that fisheries have adopted a fancy form of net fishing (also an old form of fishing that has been around for thousands of years) called purse seine fishing. Rather than simply dipping or dragging a net from a ship and seeing what comes up, this method involves massive nets that are actually secured at the bottom so the fish can't escape. It's very efficient. It is also indiscriminate in what it catches. There are literally tons of other fish and aquatic mammals that are caught in these fancy nets, including various endangered species of dolphins and some of the sharks that prey on the tuna (yes, controlling the skipjack population by fishing them is fixing a problem we've helped create in the first place). It would certainly be better for the dolphins, sharks, and whatever else gets unintentionally caught in those nets if we went back to the more discriminate pole and line fishing method. Of course, given that the method is less efficient, it would no doubt raise the price of tuna in the store, which means it might not be the go-to option when funds are running a little short. How much would the price go up? Who knows? I don't know what the profit margins on a can of tuna are. If they are pretty big, then the companies could certainly afford to make less money. If they are already low, then grandma will pay the price when she makes tuna casserole for Friday dinner. Perhaps that means there would be some other alternative, or the casserole would be smaller, or more people would discover the joy that is leftovers. This is a bit of a digression but there are people that actually won't eat leftovers, which is definitely a first-world problem. Growing up, if it wasn't in the fridge for more than a week, it was fair game. Not that much lasted that long. How much less waste would there be, of tuna and pretty much anything else if people weren't afraid to reheat things in the oven? Whatever the case, solving these issues won't be easy and will require a lot of data and subsequent analysis of it. That's where you and TARTLE come in. If you have any data that would help with that, share it. How much tuna does your family take in? Are there leftovers? How much does it cost in your area? Ever see it in the clearance aisle? Do you fish tuna? How often do you go out? Are there ways to improve pole and line fishing not widely known? Are there alternatives to tuna? These might seem like small things, but they are part of a larger whole and that data can help determine how big of a problem there is, or if there really is one at all. Should there be a true problem, that kind of information can help provide the best solutions. What's your data worth? www.tartle.co Tcast is brought to you by TARTLE. Guests visit the island by traveling on a motorized raft which is piloted by a Disneyland Cast Member. The short 3D Jamboree features the famous Mouseketeers and their leader Jimmy Dodd. The presentation includes the animated shorts Melody and Working for Peanuts all in 3D. Storybook Land Canal Boats (originally known as Canal Boats of the World in 1955) features 13 boats (powered by outboard motors) afloat in 465,000 gallons of water.1958:Disneyland's Columbia ship opens on the Rivers of America. It is a full-scale version of the first ship to carry the American flag around the world. It actually was built in large part from the plans for the HMS Bounty (of mutiny fame). Disney's shipbuilders couldn't find plans for the original Columbia, so they relied heavily on those of Captain Bligh's ship, which had similar dimensions. It has cost $300,000 to build. Fowler's Harbor (named after Admiral Joseph Fowler, who helped to build Disneyland) is also officially opened on this day to dock the new ship. A dedication ceremony takes place with Fowler and Walt Disney himself in attendanceThe Disneyland attraction Alice in Wonderland debuts in Fantasyland. Actress, Kathryn Beaumont, voice of Alice in the 1951 animated movie, provides the voice for the dark ride. It follows the path of the movie, as the riders (as Alice) follow the White Rabbit down the Rabbit Hole into Wonderland. Disneyland's first "Alice" attraction - Mad Tea Party (a spinning tea cup ride), has been operating since the park's debut in July 19551959:Three major attractions are christened at Disneyland on this day:The first urban monorail system in the U.S., the Disneyland-Alweg Monorail System, begins operation in California's Disneyland. The two Mark I trains run on a .8 mile track around Tomorrowland. Walt Disney and U.S. Vice president Nixon and their families are on hand for the dedication of the "Highway in the Sky." (In June 1961, the Monorail will become a true transportation link instead of just a sightseeing ride. With an extended 2 1/2 mile track, Disneyland Hotel guests will be able to board the Monorail at the hotel and begin their park visit in Tomorrowland.)Also on this day at Disneyland, the Matterhorn Mountain with its Matterhorn Bobsleds, opens. Modeled after the Matterhorn, a real mountain in the Swiss Alps, it is the first roller coaster to use cylindrical rails and urethane wheels (which will become standard in the roller coaster industry). At 147 feet tall, the Matterhorn contains 500 tons of structural steel. The ride consists of two separate tracks that run somewhat parallel to each other for much of the ride, intertwining and eventually deviating from each other at the loading areas. The Submarine Voyage ride is officially dedicated on this day as well in Tomorrowland (although it has has been open since June 6). The attraction has cost about $2.5 million to create. The Nautilus and 7 sister submarines - the Triton, Sea Wolf, Skate, Skipjack, George Washington, Patrick Henry, and Ethan Allen allow 38 Disneyland guests at a time to take their own voyage to the North Pole. For the dedication of the new Submarine Voyage attraction the opening ceremonies feature eight live mermaids performing a synchronized swimming ballet in the lagoon.Mrs. Mildred Nelson, wife of the chief machinist on the the first nuclear-powered submarine, USS Nautilus, helps Walt Disney christen the sub D-301, appropriately named Nautilus. Also taking place at 1:30 is a special dedication parade specifically designedfor this day's festivities. The parade and all the day's events are filmed for an ABC television special to be titled Kodak Presents Disneyland ’59.1967:The Club 33 restaurant (for members-only) opens at 33 Royal Street, in New Orleans Square at Disneyland. It is comprised of two dining rooms and several adjoining areas, all of which hold a wide array of magnificent antiques and original works of art. The All-American College Band, made up of musicians from colleges all across the United States, will perform for 11 weeks throughout the summer (and become a yearly tradition).1972:The Main Street Electric Parade kicks off at Disneyland for the very first time. The floats include the Blue Fairy, Casey Junior Circus Train, Alice In Wonderland, Chinese Dragon, Dumbo’s Circus, Cinderella’s Ball, "it’s a small world", and the American Finale.1974:Disney World’s "Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Revue" dinner show debuts in Pioneer Hall at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort and Campground. Created as a college workshop summer production only, guest response will be so positive that Walt Disney World entertainment will continue the show with a permanent professional cast at the end of the 1974 summer! 1975:Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln returns to Disneyland after being replaced in 1973 with The Walt Disney Story.1983:The Disneyland parade Flights of Fantasy, which celebrates the opening of the New Fantasyland, debuts.1999:Disney's animated feature Tarzan premieres in the U.S. at the El Capitan Theater in HollywoodThe computer controlled sign that welcomes guests to the main entrance of Disneyland's parking lot is removed. Based on the Disney-Pixar movie Cars, Cars Land is the largest piece of a five-year expansion at Disney California Adventure Park, adding 12 acres of new attractions to the theme park. It is a recreation of the fictional town of Radiator Springs, featuring Luigi's Flying Tires, which flies riders over what looks like a giant air hockey table; Mater's Junkyard Jamboree, which swings riders in trailers in a "tow-si-do" square dance; and Radiator Springs Racers, which takes riders through a race through a mountain range.2016:Finding Dory, a 3D computer-animated comedy adventure film produced by Pixar Animation Studios and released by Walt Disney Pictures, hits U.S. theaters. Encryption is the process of scrambling data to protect personal files, secure communication, hide identities and much more. In this video we will learn about the different type of encryptions we will talk about symmetric encryption, asymmetrical encryption, where they are used for and the pros and cons of each one. Symmetric encryption Asymmetrical encrypt Pros and cons of sym va asym Symmetric encryption Might as well just call it classic encryption I would argue and i think this is the first encryption known to us. I have some thing I dont want anyone to see I use a lock key to lock it. Only I can open it unless I have a lock. The same key you use to encrypt is the same key to Decrypt. Examples Examples of popular symmetric-key algorithms include AES Twofish Serpent DES Twofish, Serpent, AES (Rijndael), Blowfish CAST5, Kuznyechik, RC4, DES, 3DES, Skipjack, Safer+/++ (Bluetooth), and IDEA Asymmetrical encryptions We had symmetric encryptions for a long time, then internet came and networking and we needed to encrypt messages going back and forth. We said cool lets use AES. Then we said wait a second.. the other computer doesnt really have my key so we need to encrypt it.. Also called Public key encryption 1977 Rivest–Shamir–Adleman (RSA) Diffie–Hellman key exchange protocol DSS (Digital Signature Standard), which incorporates the Digital Signature Algorithm ElGamal Various elliptic curve techniques Various password-authenticated key agreement techniques Paillier cryptosystem RSA encryption algorithm (PKCS#1) Cramer–Shoup cryptosystem YAK authenticated key agreement protocol --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/hnasr/message

Encryption is fundamental to business today. But encryption also allows evildoers to plan nefarious criminal or terrorist acts. Law enforcement, intelligence agencies and political interests have proposed "back doors" to enable them to do their jobs. Shades of the cryptographic device, The Clipper Chip and the Skipjack algorithm! Look it up! CISO's need to work with stakeholders to find the right balance between their responsibilities in protecting sensitive data and cooperation with law enforcement and Homeland Security. We discuss these and other issues in this conversation between Security Current's Vic Wheatman and Greg Schaffer, FirstBank VP and Information Security Officer.

#8. Joe Elder and his wife Alison own and run Skipjack Nautical in Portsmouth, VA. it's one of the few places like it in the USA - a treasure trove of nautical artifacts and artwork stretched throughout a beautiful gallery overlookin the Elizabeth River in Portsmouth. Joe and I talked about how he got involved starting the business, his career as a professional diver and underwater archaeologist, how he and Alison lost it all at the original Skipjack due to a catastrophic fire and Joe's passion for history and all things nautical. We chatted in the back of Skipjack at a table where Joe was just working on valuing a series of swords from a local collector, some dating as far back as the War of 1812. The place is awesome! Thanks Joe!
On Sunday, April 25th, Christopher White, author of the newly published and critically-acclaimed book, Skipjack: The Story of America's Last Sailing Oystermen (St. Martin's Press), appeared at the Decker Theatre on the campus of Washington College in Chestertown, Maryland. Joining White were four legendary skipjack captains from the Eastern Shore, including 89-year old Captain Arthur Daniels, Jr. and his son Captain Stan Daniels, both of Deal Island, plus Captain Wade Murphy, Jr. and Captain Stanley Larrimore of Tilghman Island.
Speaker: Dr. W. D. Smith Abstract: We describe a new simple but more powerful form of linear cryptanalysis. It appears to break AES (and undoubtedly other cryptosystems too, e.g. SKIPJACK). *But the break is "nonconstructive". *Even if this break is broken (due to the underlying models inadequately approximating the real world) we explain how AES still could contain "trapdoors" which would make cryptanalysis unexpectedly easy for anybody who knew the trapdoor. We then discuss how to use the theory of BLECCs to build cryptosystems provably *not containing trapdoors of this sort, *secure against our strengthened form of linear cryptanalysis, *secure against "differential" cryptanalysis, *secure against D.J. Bernstein's timing attack. Using this technique we prove a fundamental theorem: it is possible to thus encrypt N bits with security 2^(cN), via an circuit Q_N containing

Black Hat Briefings, Las Vegas 2005 [Video] Presentations from the security conference
This talk will present recent advances in the design of robust cryptographic backdoors in secret symmetric ciphers (i.e., classified or proprietary ciphers). The problem directly affects end-users since corporations and governments have in the past produced secret symmetric ciphers for general use (e.g., RC4 and Skipjack, respectively). The problem itself is challenging since it involves leaking secret key material in the ciphertexts that are produced by a deterministic function, whereas traditional subliminal channels have relied on the use of randomized cryptographic algorithms. Such attacks can be regarded as advanced Trojan horse attacks since the secret block cipher securely and subliminally transmits the symmetric key of the sender and receiver to the malicious designer and confidentiality holds even when the cipher is made public. The material that will be surveyed was published in Fast Software Encryption (FSE '98), the Australasian Conference on Information Security and Privacy (ACISP '03), and Selected Areas in Cryptography (SAC '04). Adam Young received his BS degree in Electrical Engineering from Yale University in '94, his MS degree in Computer Science from Columbia University in '96. He was awarded his PhD degree in Computer Science with distinction from Columbia University in '02. He has authored publications in IEEE Foundations of Computer Science, Crypto, Eurocrypt, Asiacrypt, Security in Communication Networks (SCN), Fast Software Encryption, Algorithmic Number Theory Symposium (ANTS), PKC, CT-RSA, SAC, IEEE Security and Privacy, Cryptographic Hardware and Embedded Systems (CHES), ACISP, and the IEEE Information Assurance Workshop. He is the author of the book "Malicious Cryptography: Exposing Cryptovirology" that is co-authored with Dr. Moti Yung. Adam has given invited talks at Xerox PARC, MITRE, Bell Labs, NYU, Sandia National Labs, the Naval Postgraduate School, the AMS-MMS special session on coding theory and cryptography, and the 2nd International Conference on Advanced Technologies for Homeland Security (ICATHS '04). In April Adam will be giving a talk at the DIMACS Workshop on Theft in E-Commerce that is being held at Rutgers University. Adam's work experience includes serving as a cryptographic consultant for CertCo, Inc., performing research for Lucent as a Member of Technical Staff, acting as a Principal Engineer for Lockheed Martin Global Telecommunications, and conducting Federally funded research for the DoD.
