State of the Theme Parks 2024 It's that time of year when we look at the current state of the Disney and Universal theme parks in America, and talk about the most exciting changes, additions, and re-imaginings that have been announced for the coming year. Join us for the 2024 State of the Theme Parks Address! Topics covered incude: As of just a few days ago, theme park reservations are no longer needed for most guests at Walt Disney World, and park hopping is open all day long. To accommodate park hopping, inter-park busses will now start running at 10 am. Interestingly, there is currently no bus from MK to EPCOT- all guests hopping between those two parks are being sent via Monorail. Also recently returned, is the Disney Dining Plan and Quick Service Dining Plan at Walt Disney World Resort. The plan features some significant changes to price and inclusions from the last time it was offered. Coming later this summer, the fan favorite Free Dining Plan promotion. Comes with strings attached - requires Disney+ subscription, a longer stay, and the aforementioned changes to the DDP The Country Bears Jamboree is closing very soon for re-imagining, and the latest release from Disney confirms my fears that they're not just adding a segment with Disney songs on to the beloved show, but totally changing the show to be all Disney songs, with one song that "fans will recognize" - I'm guessing Big Al will still interrupt with Blood on the Saddle. Rock and Roller Coaster is down for a lengthy refurb - AGAIN. Disney says there is not current change coming to the theme, although the internet feels the time is right considering recent allegations against Steven Tyler. Construction will soon start on a DVC member lounge somewhere in MK Scaffolding is starting to come down from Tiana's Bayou Adventure as exterior work and landscaping is nearing completion. The exterior of the mountain is now covered almost entirely with plants to fit the bayou theme. Disney again mentions large future investment in MK, and specifically teases another announcement for Frontierland, making a future retheme of Pecos Bill's to Tiana's Place seem more likely. Paradise Pier Hotel at Disneyland completes its transformation with a grand reopening as Pixar Pier Hotel on January 30. To celebrate all things Pixar and the new hotel, Disneyland and Disney California Adventure will be hosting the return of Pixar Fest from April 26-August 4, featuring an all new pixar themed daytime parade at DCA, and the return of Together Forever, a Pixar Nighttime Spectacular at Disneyland. May 24, Fantasmic! returns to Disneyland with new special effects, a reimagined finale battle between Mickey and Mileficent, and the return of the iconic Peter Pan scene aboard the Sailing Ship Columbia Run Disney finally returned to Disneyland - the half marathon weekend just wrapped up, and Sept. 5-8 will feature an all new Halloween half marathon weekend, Disneyland will expand the plaza between New Orleans Square and Haunted Mansion into a park like area with space for live entertainment. The grounds and queue of the Haunted Mansion will also be expanded to give guests a tour of the mansion's gardens, and guests can visit the carriage house which will house a brand new Haunted Mansion shop. Dreamworks Animation land will replace Wood Woodpecker's KidZone in Universal Studios Florida some time in 2024 As always, a huge thank you to our sponsor, Key to the World Travel. News: Over at MiceChat, Dusty Sage was able to have a conversation with higher-up associated with Tiana's Bayou Adventure where he expressed his dismay at the focus on the search for a missing ingredient. If Dusty is right, there is a lot more going on with this attraction. Per his conversation, it is a sort of fake out for guests concealing the fact that they are doing a lot more with this attraction than has been announced. Massive set pieces are being installed to make this much more grand than the attraction that it is replacing. They are also spending a considerable amount on this project that they could have built an entirely new attraction. – https://www.micechat.com/371000-disneyland-update-snowfall-pumpkins-missed-opportunities/ It is possible that by the time you listen to this, the Adventureland Treehouse could be open! All of the scaffolding has been removed and the construction tape is gone. The walls around the attraction seem to be the only thing holding back excited guests. – https://www.micechat.com/371000-disneyland-update-snowfall-pumpkins-missed-opportunities/ https://www.micechat.com/371000-disneyland-update-snowfall-pumpkins-missed-opportunities/ The Paradise Pier Hotel will become the Pixar Place Hotel officially on January 30th, 2024. The new Luxo Lamp sculpture is yet to be installed, and the Great Maple restaurant is still under construction. The Disney Parks Blog posted images of the new room decor and all the reopening details. To see them yourself, head on over to the link in our show notes. –https://disneyparks.disney.go.com/blog/2023/10/opening-date-revealed-for-pixar-place-hotel-at-disneyland-resort-plus-sneak-peek-of-great-maple-menu-pixar-themed-hotel-rooms-and-more/ As we have spoken about a few times on the podcast recently, Toontown is undergoing some updates to fix the land's main interactive fountain and dreaming tree section. The CenTOONial Park is scheduled to reopen on October 30th, and then Goofy's How-to-Play Yard will close on the same day. Changes to this area are scheduled to wrap up and reopen to the public on November 10th. Hopefully, this will just leave Donald's Duck Pond having never been operating for guests. – https://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2023/10/17/one-disney-attraction-will-reopen-soon-but-another-will-close-the-same-day/ A fun new activity is coming to the Disneyland Resort this Halloween Season. The Disney Parks Blog posted a Halloween Time Scavenger Hunt Around the Disneyland Resort. The scavenger hunt provides clues to find things in Disneyland, Disney California Adventure, and Downtown Disney. – https://disneyparks.disney.go.com/blog/2023/10/try-our-new-disneyland-resort-halloween-scavenger-hunt-for-families/ Halloween is still about a week away, but Christmas is already moving in around the resort. Snow has started to fall on Sleeping Beauty Castle, resulting in the Disney100 decorations disappearing before the actual anniversary, lights are going up in the trees on Main Street, and New Orleans Square is starting to have its decorations installed. – https://www.micechat.com/371000-disneyland-update-snowfall-pumpkins-missed-opportunities/ Have you ever wanted to have breakfast with Santa? The event sounds fun and includes a small reception afterward with appetizers from Tongaroa Terrace. – https://dlnewstoday.com/2023/10/review-spirited-trader-sams-mixology-seminar-shakes-up-some-fun-at-disneyland-resort/ For Disney's 100th Anniversary on October 16th, the company threw a 23-hour Cast Member party! When they arrive sometime this fall, front gate cast members will continue to use the iPhones to scan the MagicBand. Also, instead of the fingerprint scan Disney World uses, Disneyland will continue to use photos. – https://www.micechat.com/334644-disneyland-update-fall-ing-scale-ing-plans-derailing/ A big, green, gamma radiated Avenger has started making appearances at Avengers Campus in Disney California Adventure. The Hulk, which was previewed and announced to be coming to Avengers Campus, has begun greeting guests in front of the Avengers Headquarters building. What makes this character greeting so unique is the large size! It seems that there are some kinks to be worked out, but that was probably the point of the limited time appearances. – https://twitter.com/Disneyland/status/1573003685298597888?cxt=HHwWgMDTyZCht9QrAAAA and https://www.micechat.com/334644-disneyland-update-fall-ing-scale-ing-plans-derailing/ Donald Duck will be joining popcorn bucket Mickey as a cute Halloween sipper at the park. The sipper is available for $21.25 at both Disneyland and Walt Disney World. – https://www.micechat.com/334644-disneyland-update-fall-ing-scale-ing-plans-derailing/ Donald isn't the only one getting in on the act of dressing up for Halloween and going on sale! Mike Wazowski in a pumpkin costume is the new design for a bottle topper with straw. The topper allows guests to drink from a bottle of soda or water without an open top. The straw allows for the bottle to be held upright as well. The topper is $6.99. – https://www.micechat.com/334644-disneyland-update-fall-ing-scale-ing-plans-derailing/ Mobile ordering is the wave of the future according to Disneyland. Next spring, the Magic Happens parade will step off through Disneyland once again. The parade will be part of the 100th Anniversary of the Walt Disney Company in 2023. – https://disneyparks.disney.go.com/blog/2022/09/disneyland-resort-announcements-from-d23-expo-2022-and-more/ Not only is Magic Happens returning for the Disney 100 celebration, but new versions of World of Color and the Disneyland fireworks are debuting in the spring. World of Color – One will celebrate the storytelling legacy started by Walt Disney 100 years ago. The show will tell a story of how a single action creates a ripple that can grow into a wave of change. Wondrous Journeys will be the new Disneyland fireworks show that will have nods to all 60 Walt Disney Animation Studios films to date, and will include more state of the art projection effects on Main Street, it's a small world, and the Rivers of America. – https://disneyparks.disney.go.com/blog/2022/09/disneyland-resort-announcements-from-d23-expo-2022-and-more/ The Disney Parks Blog did what Josh D'Amaro didn't do at the D23 Expo last week – they gave us some information on the Magic Bands coming to Disneyland! No exact date was mentioned, but they did confirm that Magic Bands should be at the resort for guests this fall. The Magic Bands will allow guests to get into the parks, redeem Lightning Lane reservations, open Disney Resort Hotel room doors, buy merchandise, link PhotoPass photos, and more. Some of the flashier features include glowing with the nighttime entertainment and adding the ability to play games in the park. – https://disneyparks.disney.go.com/blog/2022/09/magicband-features-and-experiences-revealed-for-disneyland-resort-coming-this-fall/ One of the announcements from the D23 Expo last weekend was the new name of the hotel, formerly known as the Paradise Pier Hotel. The Pixar Place Hotel will be the name when the refurbishment is complete. No date on that yet. A Finding Nemo themed splash pad will be coming to the hotel, along with the Southern California team from Great Maple, which will run the restaurant on the first floor, along with other food and beverage locations at the hotel. – https://disneyparks.disney.go.com/blog/2022/09/disneyland-resort-announcements-from-d23-expo-2022-and-more/ Princess and the Frog has come to New Orleans Square – long before the retheming of Splash Mountain! Eudora's Chic Boutique featuring Tiana's Gourmet Secrets opened this week and offers Princess and the Frog themed merchandise, cooking supplies, and Tiana's own spices and sauces. Imagineers designed the story of the shop to be owned by Tiana's mother, Eudora. The new shop is just one main space that is pretty small, with walls covered in artwork showing the lives and scenes of New Orleans and Tiana herself! – https://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2022/09/20/explore-disneys-new-princess-and-the-frog-themed-store-with-us-eudoras-chic-boutique/ Overnight guests at Disney Resort Hotels will have a special experience for Halloween this year. Each hotel will offer trick-or-treating, with a treat map for each hotel with locations handing out complimentary candy. Hotel guests are encouraged to sign up at the front desk of their Disney Resort Hotel. The dates for this are October 28th through 31st. On Halloween night, there will be a costume contest on the Adventure Lawn at the Disneyland Hotel. – https://disneyparks.disney.go.com/blog/2022/09/celebrate-halloween-time-in-downtown-disney-district-and-at-the-disneyland-resort-hotels/ Weeklyteers who are interested in attending Grad Nite events at the resort will have to pay a little more this year. Ticket prices are up between 8 to 22 percent compared to last year. The Grad Nite party experience is $99 on weekdays and $104 on weekends, all-dat DCA admission with the Grad Nite party and a parkhopper option is $199 for weekdays and $219 for weekends. – https://www.ocregister.com/2022/09/16/disneyland-raises-prices-up-to-22-for-grad-nite-2023/ The painting has wrapped up at the Hollywood Lounge in the Hollwood Pictures Backlot area of Disney California Adventure. The signs have been convered to digital displays, and a new mural has appeared with the lounge's name on the side. The menu has not been updated. – https://www.micechat.com/333927-disneyland-update-halloween-treats-traffic-tricks/ Another patent has been posted that was requested by Disney. This time, it is for a glasses-free VR attraction experience. In basic terms, the new technology would use projections and reflections, much like the Pepper's Ghost effect that we have had in the Haunted Mansion for years now. Of course, just because a patent is filed doesn't mean that it will show up anywhere in the parks soon. – https://dlnewstoday.com/2022/09/disney-files-patent-for-glasses-free-vr-attraction/ Discussion Topic: Tage and Teresa's Trip to Disneyland and Oogie Boogie Bash Recap

Everything New for Disney Parks and Resorts from D23 Expo 2022 So What's Next for Disney Parks? You won't believe what's coming behind Big Thunder Mountain at Walt Disney World This is Disney's Blue Sky sneak peak of what's coming down the road for Disney Parks. This portion of the D23 Expo had the biggest cheer of anything announced in 2022.First though, Josh D'Amaro announced what's happening with Dinoland at Disney's Animal Kingdom Park. It has been languishing and looks forgotten so the announcement of a big transformation coming was welcome. Zootopia and Moana will share the space currently occupied by Dinoland. But the biggest news of all... Disney Villains are Finally Getting a Place to Call their OwnMagic Kingdom will feature new frontiers and it's all hiding on the other side of BTM. The little town of Santa Cecilia will come to life as Coco gets a Magic Kingdom presence. And if you do want to talk about Bruno, you're in luck because you may be able to walk right into the Madrigal's casita. But all is not fun and flowers in this new land...as what if the Disney villains took up residence there as well...beyond Big Thunder Mountain. This was presented as conceptual and would likely be 10 years down the road, but Disney would not share it in this way if it weren't going to happen. Big news for Walt Disney World and Magic Kingdom. -- There's More Coming to Walt Disney WorldA new nighttime show for EPCOT will debut in late 2023 to kick-off the 100th Anniversary of the Walt Disney Company. Moana's Journey of Water and the rest of the World Celebration area at EPCOT will open in late 2023. So we'll have to bear with those construction walls for another year it seems.Figment is returning in a brand new form for a meet and greet at EPCOT. That will be in place by the end of 2023. In Magic Kingdom, the perennial favorite Hatbox Ghost will materialize once again in the Haunted Mansion. And we now know that Tron Lightcycle Run at Magic Kingdom will debut in Spring 2023. We were hoping it would be sooner, but apparently they are working on finishing touches right now. No specific date, just "spring."  Finally, in 2023, a new version of  Happily Ever After will return as part of a new Magic Kingdom nighttime show. This received a good amount of applause. What's New and Coming to Disneyland Resort The DVC Villas at Disneyland Hotel will be called the Villas at Disneyland Hotel. How creative. On October 16, 2023 Disney 100 kicks-off and it promises to be the biggest celebration ever for Disney. Under the theme of a Boundless Future the following announcements were made: The Mandalorian and Grogu (aka Baby Yoda) will be onsite starting in Mid November 2022 at Disneyland Galaxy's Edge Over at the Avengers Campus in Disney California Adventure Park, Kevin Feige, President of Marvel Studios, noted "we're just getting started." A new giant Hulk will be at Avengers Campus in California "next week."  Plus, they're bringing the Multiverse to Avengers Campus. Disney is expanding the campus to include a new attraction. In the new attraction you will battle alongside all the Avengers against all the foes from anywhere. You will fight King Thanos. This is a new Thanos -- a Thanos who won. And the Avengers are not too happy about that and you have to help them. More news to come. Also new to Disney California Adventure, they are reimagining Pacific Wharf into San Fransokyo from Big Hero Six. You'll be able to meet Baymax there.  Finally, they are reimagining Paradise Pier Hotel, as it will become Pixar Place Hotel. It will feature a Finding Nemo splash pad and more characters. All in all, Disney promises that the hotel will feel completely new. Over at Downtown Disney more than a dozen new or reimagined locations are in the works. More announcements coming over the next year. But the big news locally is a that SoCal favorite bakery Porto's is coming to Downtown Disney.  RunDisney at Disneyland is coming back in 2024. More details coming soon. It's been awhile for Run Disney as the last one took place in 2017. Mickey's ToonTown Mickey and Minnie's Runaway Railway are coming along. It was good to hear that it will be a slightly different version of Runaway Railway than the WDW edition, to fit into the Disneyland ToonTown story. It's all opening in 2023. Tiana's Bayou Adventure will open in late 2024 in both Walt Disney World and Disneyland. The story for the ride is that it picks up where the film (Princess and the Frog) left off. In the new story, Princess Tiana is an entrepreneur and community leader in the year 1927. She is hosting a party for the community and we need to help Tiana to find a special ingredient that she's missing.  Disney promises that the latest tech is being implemented to really enhance the outside of the whole area at night. Mist will be used like a painter's canvas. "True bayou magic." The attraction is to be a love letter to New Orleans. Guests should feel the story is authentic to the city. Another great piece of news is that the original cast will be lending their voices to the new attraction. --What's new at Disney Cruise Line The sixth ship in the Disney Cruise Line fleet is all about adventure...celebrating Walt's love for exploration. The new Disney Cruise ship is called Disney Treasure. The Disney Wonder is heading to Australia and New Zealand late 2023. The island of Eleuthera and Lighthouse Point will be the new Bahamas port for Disney Cruise. 90% of the power will come from solar. What's Coming to Disney Parks Around the Globe Zootopia is opening at Shanghai Disneyland.  World of Frozen at Hong Kong Disneyland will open in the second half of 2023, featuring a Wandering Oaken sleigh coaster. Disneyland Paris' Frozen Arendelle land is coming along and Disneyland Hotel is being fully reimagined -- opening in 2024 At Tokyo Disneyland, Disney Fantasy Spring will feature Peter Pan, Tangled and Frozen. Plus a totally reimagined Space Mountain will open by 2027 at Tokyo Disney. Pixar We Belong Together will be debuting at Walt Disney Studios Park at Disneyland Paris next year. There is no word on when or if they will go back on sale. Speculation online thinks that this is because of the impending lawsuit around reservations and access tied to the Magic Key program. Even more speculation online thinks that the program may get reworked again before going back on sale. Only time will tell. – https://www.micechat.com/323209-disneyland-news-magic-key-locked-new-ca-resident-ticket-offer/ For Weeklyteers who are going to the park and who aren't Magic Keyholders, there is a great ticket deal available! California residents can purchase summer tickets to Disneyland starting as low as $83 per day. The ticket is a 3-day, one park per day ticket for $249 for Monday through Thursday admission, with weekend tickets starting at $299. For $60 more per ticket, park hopping can be added. Tickets are valid for trips from June 3th and September 15th, 2022. Not a bad value to get to see all the nighttime entertainment that has returned. – https://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2022/05/31/new-ticket-deal-announced-for-select-disneyland-guests/ Star Wars Celebration was this past weekend across the street from the Disneyland Resort at the Anaheim Convention Center. A lot of Star Wars news was announced, even some parks news! Boba Fett and Fennec Shand were announced to be coming to Star Wars: Galaxys Edge, and then they were there over the weekend. Din Djarin, better known as The Mandalorian, and Grogu, better known as the Child were also announced to be showing up in the area soon. This is a break from the strict timeline that Imagineering has placed on the area, but promise that the characters from the different eras will not interact or be in the same area at the same time. – https://www.mouseplanet.com/13175/Disneyland_Resort_Update_for_May_31__June_5_2022#news3 Anyone who has been to Oga's Cantina in Star Wars Galaxys Edge will know DJ Rex spinning tunes for the patrons of the establishment. Soon, guests can listen to some of his tracks on a new album that will be released. No firm date at the moment, but we will keep you updated once we see it online. – https://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2022/05/27/videos-dj-r3x-from-disneys-ogas-cantina-is-releasing-an-album/ Signs outside of the Star Wars Launch Bay in Tomorrowland tease the return of the combined museum/store/photo op. No word yet on when this will reopen, but Cast Members are stationed outside of the location telling guests it should be returning soon. – https://www.micechat.com/322984-disneyland-news-racers-fantasmic-star-wars/ This past weekend, Fantasmic! returned to the Rivers of America to delight guests once again. The projections look clear and bright, the show scenes look fresh, and the show was amazing as always. The best way to get a great seat for the show is to book the River Belle Terrace dining package for $50 per guest, since they are using the same reserved seating area that the Blue Bayou usually uses. Once the Blue Bayou reopens, this area is expected to be shifted to the side more to accommodate the Blue Bayou guests. The Hungry Bear location is across from the Haunted Mansion and offers a side viewing angle for the show. – https://www.micechat.com/322984-disneyland-news-racers-fantasmic-star-wars/ June is here, which means that the busy summer season has started at Disneyland. The Disneyland Forever fireworks show will now play nightly with fireworks 7 days a week. During the non-summer and holiday season, Mickey's Mix Magic was played with projections only during the week, with fireworks on the weekends only. – https://www.micechat.com/322984-disneyland-news-racers-fantasmic-star-wars/ Last week, the most popular attraction in Disney California Adventure had an incident that has caused it to be closed ever since. Video online showed one of the cars on the outside racetrack portion of the attraction stopped and smoking. Though the vehicle never caught fire, the guests in the vehicle were buckled in with smoke coming from the rear. Cast Members did get out to the guests and exit them from the vehicle with no injuries. Disney has closed the attraction to investigate the incident to ensure it won't happen again. – https://www.micechat.com/322984-disneyland-news-racers-fantasmic-star-wars/ In Downtown Disney, food trucks have taken up residence by the old ESPN building to help feed hungry guests. These food trucks are expected to be there until at least July 4th. This is a great idea since the Earl of Sandwich is gone and there is a lack of affordable dining options, especially for larger families. – https://www.micechat.com/322984-disneyland-news-racers-fantasmic-star-wars/ Guests staying at the Paradise Pier Hotel can enjoy one of the hotel amenities again. The pool has finally reopened after a lengthy refurbishment. None of the stores or restaurants are open yet at the location, but it is great to have the pool open so guests don't have to walk over to the Disneyland Hotel to use their pool. – https://www.micechat.com/322984-disneyland-news-racers-fantasmic-star-wars/ Discussion Topic: DLWeekyl Vault: Former Aladdin a Musical Spectacular Genie Dylan Website – http://www.dylanwhite.com/ Instagram – https://www.instagram.com/itsdylanwhite/ Aladdin a Musical Spectacular Final Performance – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=enW48NlXRj4

On this week's show, Disneyland veterans, David and Ronn dive into several sizzling Disney topics. What We Learned from Disneyland Resort President Ken Potrock's State of the Resort Presentation. A few weeks ago Potrock teased the exciting upcoming new details he would announce coming to the Disneyland Resort. Well, that day finally came  and at was a bit anti-climactic as the details were really about the areas outside of the  Parks. The Downtown Disney Distrist and the Paradise Pier Hotel primarily - raising more questions than answering  in many respects. Are the changes we're seeing today the beginning elements of a much larger matching changes to come the Disneyland Resort as a whole? What tell-all documentary would we like to see made about the Parks? Has there ever been a moment at Disneyland where we cried or got misty-eyed? What are our Disneyland Resort pet peeves? Plus, we remember, celebrate, and honor Donald Gets Drafted, The Moose Hunt, the Sleeping Beauty Castle Walk-through, The Pendleton Woolen Mills Dry Goods Store, The Muppets, and the purchase of land in Anaheim for an amusement park this week in Disney history. All this and the big reveal of our Top 5 Disneyland Resort Sounds, and more!

Enchanted Ears Podcast: Anything & Everything Disney

Hello and welcome to the Enchanted Ears Podcast, where we discuss anything and everything Disney. This week, we have some fun Disney Queue Trivia for you, but first, Disney News. There's a lot to say this week! In Disneyland Paris (which seems to be the testing ground for other parks) announced they're creating a Premier Access Ultimate Pass, which gives you a lightning lane for 12 attractions. Is it coming to the U.S. next? We shall see! Moving over to Tokyo Disneyland, the big news is they're redoing Space Mountain and Tomorrowland. The area will close in 2024 and reopen in 2027. Here in the U.S., the Paradise Pier Hotel in Disneyland will be redone to be Pixar-themed. Also in Disneyland, the Oogie Boogie Bash will be returning to Disneyland. Over in Disney World, Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party will also return (in August!) with some special overlays!!! And finally, down in Disney World, Florida's government repealed the Reedy Creek Improvement District that basically allows Disney to have their own sort of government since Disney sits in 2 different counties. We'll see what that means in the future. According to Kilimanjaro Safari, how did conservationists solve the conflict between farmers in Africa and wild elephants? What year do you get transported back to in the Hollywood Tower of Terror? Disney Imagineers spend a lot of time trying to make our wait time for rides in Disney World interesting. Answer these questions and more as we play Disney Queue Trivia. Thanks for listening and have a magical week! Check us out on Facebook and Youtube or submit a question/topic for us to discuss on a future episode or support us on Patreon.

Brian's family trip continues as the fam gets set for a trip to Disney's California Adventure. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fzSdT3GVJCk Transcription You don't have to be famous to be effective. Hi I'm Brian Pombo, welcome back to Brian J Pombo Live. Today I'm coming to you from Anaheim, California. I'm staying at the Paradise Pier Hotel and I have had a great day. We've had a couple of days, you know, if you've been following we've had a couple of days of chaos and turmoil. Not a bad way. So one of the fun types of turmoil, okay. Today we got to start our day in California Adventure Disney California Adventure is the strange wording of it, but just understand it's the second Park in Anaheim, California, straight across the way from Disneyland from the original Disneyland that Walt Disney built. It's great that they've done a whole lot with it, it was started in a really odd way. California Adventure on discussing will start in a very odd way. And they've maneuvered around it over the years to create somewhat of a storyline and to start having a newer character and so forth in there. One of the major changes that they made was that they took a lot of the story of Walt's life and created lands around it in order to make these lands that were originally created when the when California venture first came out and have a make a little more sense of the first place you walked down is a little bit like the main street, USA type deal. Except they changed it to call it when a Vista Street and Buena Vista Street is the main concept of it is this is LA in you know the 20s, late 20s, early 30s, when Walt Disney first arrived on the scene. He already had a rough go at it he had he had a situation where he completely lost a whole lot of his staff, he lost the character, he was working with everything else. He was looking to try something brand new and so is in LA for the first time. And there's all these casts of characters in places and everything that go along with it. So this is where this, I've got this picture I want to show you. First off give you a little bit of background when we first walked down the street, it's very quaint, it's very cool. We're going during the holiday time, so they're playing Christmas music and Christmas music of that time period or that style at least. And walking down is really nice. In the center circle, kind of like a hub. What they have, because of COVID they have the characters that got Mickey Mouse, they had Minnie Mouse, and Goofy dressed in you know, 30 style garb. But you can't go up and hug them and talk to them and take pictures with them directly. And because of the whole COVID thing, so that got him kind of distant behind a chain-link fence and not chain link fence but a chain behind a chain where kids can't come up and touch you but they're encouraged to come up and take pictures. So my kids all run up and take pictures with Goofy and they all run up and take pictures with Minnie Mouse. And then along the other side, I noticed two other characters who I the only reason I know who they are is that I'm a nerd about this type of thing. I understand what the point is behind them but these two characters are standing there and not many people are taking notice of them at the time. I asked my wife I could go over she didn't mind if I go over I don't need to ask my wife's permission but I asked her if she didn't mind if I go over for a second and take a selfie with these folks. So here you can see the picture of me with them. The reason why I took this picture is that it all of a sudden hit me it's like this is so interesting how these characters were created specifically for this park specifically for this area and most people aren't even going to know who they are so that the gentleman dresses as a character played by multiple cast members. Different actors who have played the part of officer Calvin Blue,

News: A holiday tradition is returning to the parks next week! The famous Disneyland Resort candy canes will be on sale again at the Candy Palace And Candy Kitchen on Main Street December 7th, 9th, 15th, 21st, and 23rd. Over at Disney California Adventure, they will be on sale December 8th, 14th, 16th, and 22nd at Trolley Treats on Buena Vista Street. A mobile waitlist system will be in place to get one of these confections, and there is a limit of 1 per guest, with no discounts accepted. – https://disneyparks.disney.go.com/blog/2021/11/foodie-guide-to-holiday-candy-at-disneyland-resort/ The Candlelight Processional will again take place at Disneyland, after not being opened last year. There are two nights, with four total performances on December 4th and 5th at 5:30pm and 7:45pm. If you are not a member of the media, a Club 33 member, or an invited guest, your best bet to see the performance will be for the second performance each night as the limited seating area is cleared in-between performances. – https://www.micechat.com/308957-disneyland-update-candy-canes-candlelight-holiday-surprise/ The hotels of the Disneyland Resort have finished their holiday transformations this year. Some of the things that guests can experience include an under the sea themed Christmas tree at the Paradise Pier Hotel, a vintage-inspired mural at the Disneyland Hotel, and, of course the massive tree, with ornaments inspired by the Arts & Crafts movement of California at Disney's Grand Californian Hotel & Spa. In addition, the gingerbread house at the Grand Californian is a site to behold, with treats for sale nearby. Santa Claus will be at each of the hotels from November 25th through December 24th, with handbell carolers at the Grand Californian now through January 9th, and holiday carolers strolling between the Disneyland Hotel and the Paradise Pier Hotel December 15th through the 25th. – https://disneyparks.disney.go.com/blog/2021/11/the-holidays-are-magical-at-the-hotels-of-the-disneyland-resort/ We talked about it's a small world's problems that came from flooding of the attraction just prior to it reopening for the holiday season. No official updates, but MiceChat reports that people are working around the clock to get the attraction open as soon as possible. The Disneyland calendar continues to push the “refurbishment” listed out one day at a time, hoping for a miracle. Our sources indicate that a miracle is what it will take to get it opened before the end of the holiday season. – https://www.micechat.com/308957-disneyland-update-candy-canes-candlelight-holiday-surprise/ Avengers Campus has been terrific in how often different Avengers and other Marvel characters cycle into and out of the new land. This time, Hawkeye and Kate Bishop from the new Disney+ series Hawkeye will be battling the Tracksuit Mafia, then taking part in meet and greets with guests. The battle will take place on select days on the rooftop of Avengers Headquarters. – https://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2021/11/24/catch-hawkeye-defending-avengers-campus-in-disney-california-adventure/ Splash Mountain is going down for refurbishment starting on January 10th. Some online think that this will begin the changeover to The Princess and the Frog theme that is coming sometime in the future. Since there has not been any word from Disney on this, we are going to assume that this is the annual maintenance for the attraction, just like Grizzly River Run each winter at the resort. If anything changes, or gets announced, we will let you know! – https://www.micechat.com/262305-breaking-news-splash-mountain-to-become-princess-and-the-frog-themed/ and https://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2021/11/30/news-2-popular-rides-will-temporarily-close-soon-in-disneyland/ For guests wanting to upgrade to a Magic Key, the options are getting less and less. Last week, we reported on the Dream Key being sold out, and now the Believe Key has also sold out. The only keys left are the Enchant Key, and the SoCal only Imagine Key. This follows Annual Pass sales being suspended in Walt Disney World to help control the level of crowds in the parks. – https://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2021/11/24/news-another-disneyland-resort-magic-key-pass-has-sold-out/ Amazon and Disney have partnered together to offer Alexa services to hotel guests in Disney World and next year at Disneyland. Current Amazon smart device owners can ask their devices to “launch Avengers Campus recruitment” to be taken on an interactive audio tour of Avengers Campus. It is a fun addition to the smart device and can be used to get your family excited for the next trip! – https://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2021/11/28/take-a-tour-of-disneys-avengers-campus-from-home-with-amazon-alexa/ The union negotiations and another vote is on the horizon for the cast members at Disneyland. Since cast members at DCA have already voted to approve the contract, only Disneyland Park cast members are holding another vote to decide of they will strike or not. They need a 75% vote to strike, and only 60% voted down the contract, so there is still a ways to go. The vote takes place on December 3rd to decide to accept the contract, or to strike. MiceChat recommends travel insurance if you are going to Disneyland in December or January, as a strike would likely shutdown the resort. – https://www.micechat.com/308957-disneyland-update-candy-canes-candlelight-holiday-surprise/ Discussion Topic: Stephanie F – Social Clubs at Disneyland SoCal Funseekers – Disney Movie Meets and other events https://www.facebook.com/groups/899875317467577 Disneyana Fan Club https://disneyanafanclub.weebly.com/ Disneyland Alumni Club https://www.disneylandalumni.org/ MiceChat.com https://www.micechat.com/

If you're planning to travel to one of the Disney Parks & Resorts around the world, here's what you'll need to know and expect if you want to visit during the Covid-19 pandemic. The basicsAfter being closed for over a year, Disneyland Resort in California reopened on April 30 with limited capacity at Disneyland park and Disney California Adventure park. Only California residents may visit the parks until June 15.Those wanting to visit need to purchase tickets in advance via a new reservation system.Disney's Grand Californian Hotel & Spa reopened on April 29. Disney's Paradise Pier Hotel is set to reopen June 15, while the Disneyland Hotel will reopen on July 2 with reduced capacity."Avengers Campus," a new land based on the Marvel franchise, opens at Disney's California Adventure on June 4.In Florida, most of Disney World's parks are open. The Blizzard Beach water park reopened on March 7. No reopening date has been set for Typhoon Lagoon, however.Disney World also requires visitors to make reservations in advance.Hong Kong Disneyland reopened in February -- the third reopening for the park since the start of the pandemic. Shanghai Disneyland Park is operating normally with enhanced health and safety measures in place, however guests need to reserve their tickets online before visiting.Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo DisneySea are open. A visitor cap is in place, with each park allowing 5,000 visitors per day, excluding those who have already bought advance tickets.Disneyland Paris announced it will reopen on June 17. This includes the Disneyland Park, Walt Disney Studios Park, Disney's Newport Bay Club and Disney Village. What's on offerThe original and, some might say, best, theme parks, Disney's resorts remain a magical experience for all the family. From vertiginous rides to firework displays, and of course the chance to meet classic characters, a trip to a Disney Park makes memories that last a lifetime.Who can goEntry to each Disney Park is dependent on local travel restrictions. Disneyland Resort is only open to California residents until further notice. The Paris location -- when it reopens -- will be subject to France's entry rules, which prevent most non-EU nationals from coming into the country, however the EU has agreed to allow vaccinated travelers from countries with low infection rates, raising the possibility of summer getaways to the continent.Only locals and returning citizens can access the Tokyo and Hong Kong Disney parks, while the Shanghai resort can only be accessed by locals or those who meet China's strict entry requirements, including two negative test results taken within 48 hours of departures. What are the restrictions?Disney parks in the US are are slowly easing their Covid-19 protocols. All Disney Parks require guests to wear masks, and some parks' mask requirements are more stringent than others. For instance, Disneyland in California requires face coverings for everyone 2 or older, including people who have been vaccinated. In mid-May, Disney World announced that masks and face coverings for guests will be "optional in outdoor common areas".Every park has reduced capacity. Guests visiting most parks must take a temperature check on entry and observe social distancing at all times. What can visitors expect?Similar to other Disney parks around the world, Disneyland in California and Disney World in Florida have reopened with some restrictions.Parades and fireworks have been put on hold indefinitely in a bid to keep guests safely apart. FASTPASS and Disney MaxPass services are suspended and not available for purchase or use.Interactive games, such as the hands-on scavenger hunt game Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom, have been closed.Capacity has also been cut, with numbers further limited in restaurants and in queues to prevent overcrowding.Despite this, guests can still dine in at their favorite restaurants and enjoy the rides, though character meet-and-greets have be...

News: With the theme parks having just opened almost two weeks ago, more dining locations are returning. The Paradise Garden Grill reopens on Thursday, May 13th, the Alfresco Dining Terrace for Legacy Passholders and their guests on Thursday, May 20th, the Blue Bayou on Thursday, May 27th, the Napa Rose for dinner only on Friday, May 28th, Storytellers Cafe for breakfast and dinner on Friday, May 28th, and finally the GCH Craftsman Bar, also on Friday, May 28th. For a complete list of all the dining locations, please check out the link in our show notes. – https://disneyparks.disney.go.com/blog/2021/05/update-foodie-news-dining-guide-to-disneyland-resort-reopening/ The Blue Bayou is reopening soon, so we finally get a look at the updated menu, which now includes some alcoholic beverages. Appetizers include the Signature Gumbo, the Grilled Heirloom Jumbo Asparagus, and the House salad. Entrees include the Monte Crist Sandwich, Jambalaya, Cauliflower Steak and Grits, and more. Two dessert options – an 8 layer chocolate and hazelnut cake, and a vanilla0bourbon creme brulee. A variety of wines and the new Hurricane round out the options. – https://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2021/05/11/first-look-at-the-alcohol-coming-to-disneylands-blue-bayou-restaurant/ Another restaurant has reopened in Downtown Disney this past week. Catal has returned with a brand new menu, featuring Ahi Avocado Toast, Traditional Paella, Filet Mignon, and Three Cheese Mac and Cheese. – https://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2021/05/06/another-downtown-disney-restaurant-has-reopened-this-time-with-a-new-menu/ With the likelihood that most restrictions will be lifted next month, Disneyland still is taking it slow due to a number of reasons. The biggest at the moment is the staffing issues at the resort. Furloughed workers had to be called back first and must be given two chances to turn down their jobs before Disney can bring back laid off employees. One visible sign of this is the Disneyland Railroad, which explains why the attraction has been shut down by 3pm each day. Disney has worked through the furloughed cast, and has begun contacting laid off cast. – https://www.micechat.com/290274-disneyland-update-one-week-in-heres-how-its-really-going/ The most budget friendly of the Disneyland Resort Hotels will be reopening next! The Paradise Pier Hotel will reopen on June 15th, with limited capacity. The Grand Californian’s special entrance to Disney California Adventure will reopen on May 28th. Still no word on when the Disneyland Hotel will reopen to guests. – https://disneyparks.disney.go.com/blog/2021/05/news-from-the-hotels-of-the-disneyland-resort-disneys-paradise-pier-hotel-reopening-june-15-more-restaurant-dining-returning-to-disneys-grand-californian-hotel-spa/ With the weather getting warmer, it is nice to have a popular water attraction back open! Grizzly River Run has returned to operation this week, and is looking great. The attraction usually has its annual refurbishment around this time of year, so this is nothing new. – https://www.micechat.com/290274-disneyland-update-one-week-in-heres-how-its-really-going/ Another attraction is joinging the virtual queue system, if only for testing at this time. The Indiana Jones Adventure is running a test of standby and virtual queue at the same time off and on at the moment. With the current limitations on indoor queuing, the line has been clogging up the nearby walkways. The Jungle Cruise extended queue, which Indy has been using, will be needed by the Jungle Cruise when that attraction reopens this summer. For now, guests can get in the virtual queue through the Disneyland app. Only one virtual queue per guest, per attraction, per day at this time. – https://www.micechat.com/290527-breaking-disneyland-news-indiana-jones-to-get-the-virtual-queue-treatment/ and https://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2021/05/11/another-ride-joins-disneylands-virtual-queue-system/ The costumes for Avengers Campus have been revealed. Cast Members will be known as Campus Representatives in the various parts of the new area, each with their own distinct style. Web Slingers and Web Suppliers Cast Members will wear modern, techy emblems, made from lightweight, breathable fabrics. Pym Test Kitchen Cast Members will wear lab coats, hats, and ties, with unique pieces like pocket protectors. The Ancient Sanctum costumes feature mystical looking textures and sewing techniques, while food cart cast members will sport designs reminiscent of New York cart workers, and a Terran inspired look from Guardians of the Galaxy. Finally, the campus uniform took on the look of Shield agents, with cargo bottoms, a training shirt, and a tactical-inspired vest. – https://disneyparks.disney.go.com/blog/2021/05/first-look-avengers-campus-cast-members-assemble-in-new-cast-costumes/ We know that it is hard to believe, but we are halfway to Halloween, and the Disney Parks are celebrating. New nuiMOs plush costumes inspired by the upcoming Cruella movie, a new Disney Villains Streetwear collection, which features a lot of denim with Haunted Mansion designs, plus some ears, and much, much more! Some of the items are available on shopDisney, with others offered in the parks. – https://disneyparks.disney.go.com/blog/2021/05/shriek-peek-celebrating-halfwaytohalloween-with-a-spooky-first-look-at-some-spine-tingling-new-products/ Rounding out the halfway to Halloween news, guests can take self guided tours of the Haunted Mansion style attractions around the world. Uncle Deadly from the Muppets hosts the experience, which allows guests to tour the Haunted Mansion in Disneyland and Walt Disney World, Mystic Manor at Hong Kong Disneyland, and Phantom Manor at Disneyland Paris. On November 19th, the front part of Disney California Adventure will be open and operate as an extended part of Downtown Disney. All of Buena Vista Street from the front gates to the Carthay Circle Theater, and from Award Wieners on Hollywood Boulevard to Smokejumpers Grill in Condor Flats will be open to guests. – https://twitter.com/Disneyland/status/1324416422664196096 The Carthay Circle Lounge will be open with Buena Vista Street and will offer a new menu. The new options include smaller plated featuring Mediterranean-California light types of food. Among the items are a Carthay shrimp roll, harissa-roasted lamb, soy-glazed salmon, and more. Pasta and chicken skewers are some of the options for kids. All dining will be outdoors. The full menu can be seen on the Disneyland App. – https://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2020/11/05/carthay-circle-to-offer-new-menu-and-alfresco-dining-upon-reopening-at-disneyland-resort/ and https://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2020/11/05/news-full-menu-for-carthay-circle-lounge-released-on-disneyland-app/ In a bit of a surprise, Award Wieners on Hollywood Boulevard in DCA will be reopening with Buena Vista Street on November 19th. The location, best known for hot dogs and corn dogs, will have a new menu. A hotdog and corn dog are still on the menu joined by a cheddar cheese stick and apple pie funnel cake fries! Some adult beverages will also be offered. – https://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2020/11/09/award-wieners-to-reopen-with-buena-vista-street-at-disneys-california-adventure/ and https://dlnewstoday.com/2020/11/corn-dog-castle-corn-dogs-and-more-will-be-offered-at-award-wieners-for-the-reopening-of-buena-vista-street-at-disney-california-adventure/ The Red Car Trolley made an appearance on Buena Vista Street last week, and then disappeared again as work started on what is most likely the electric charging which is built into the street at the station. The Trolley is expected to return as a photo op when this section of the park opens on November 19th. – https://www.micechat.com/274668-disneyland-update-red-car-parking-and-partial-reopening/ Even with all the excitement of more things opening, Disney has announced another wave of furloughs. This time, it includes executive, salaried, and hourly workers. Ken Potrock, the President of the Disneyland Resort sent the letter to cast members explaining how difficult this decision is and they hope to get things open and cast members back to work as soon as possible. – https://www.ocregister.com/2020/11/09/disneyland-announces-additional-furloughs-as-state-guidelines-leave-theme-park-in-limbo/ The Orange County Register posed an interesting question to readers this week: would you be willing to take a rapid COVID-19 test to enter the theme parks? Universal Studios and Six Flags have asked this question in surveys to potential guests. They are trying to determine if a rapid test that could be completed in as little as 15 minutes would make potential guests feel safer in the parks, almost ruling out that any guest would have COVID-19 in the parks after the tests would be completed. – https://t.co/c0MGSWp9Me The face masks that Disney has been selling online and in the parks and shops have received a price increase from $6 each to $9.99 each. The price has not increased at Disneyland just yet, so if you have been eyeing up a Disney mask, now would be a good time to buy before the price could go up. – https://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2020/11/04/mask-price-increases-have-not-reached-disneyland-resort-yet/ Holiday merchandise is coming in hot and heavy at the moment. New items like a gingerbread character ornament set, Christmas snack bracelets, beanies, spirit jerseys, and a new one – underwear! The underwear features Wreck-it-Ralph, Disneyland, Kevin from Up, and Disney emoji. Each pair is $19.99. – https://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2020/11/05/whats-new-at-downtown-disney-red-trolley-sighting-snowman-candy-apples-and-so-many-christmas-pins/ and https://dlnewstoday.com/2020/11/photos-new-monsters-inc-scream-canister-water-bottles-roll-into-disneyland-resort/ One of the three Disneyland Hotels will have a partial re-opening on December 6th! The Disney Vacation Club Villas at Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa, announced in a letter sent to DVC members, will be open for booking. The rest of the hotel, along with the Disneyland Hotel and Paradise Pier Hotel, will remain closed for the foreseeable future. – https://www.ocregister.com/2020/11/09/disneyland-to-reopen-disney-vacation-club-villas-in-time-for-winter-holidays/ D23 is having a massive week of events from November 16th through the 20th, celebrating Fantastic Worlds. Topics range from Fantasia, to Star Wars, to Disney Worldbuilding. Only two of the 10 events are for D23 members only, so head on over to the link in our show notes to register for all the fun events. – https://d23.com/d23-event/fantastic-worlds-celebration-week/ For those who are a little more adventurous then we are for Thanksgiving can try a new treat at Salt & Straw for the holiday. New seasonal and unique flavors were announced by the ice cream shop in Downtown Disney. These include a sweet potato casserole with maple pecans, a roasted peach and sage cornbread stuffing, a cranberry juniper sorbet, and finally a salted caramel thanksgiving turkey. – https://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2020/11/06/say-what-theres-turkey-flavored-ice-cream-in-downtown-disney/ A very touching animated short was released online this week to celebrate the 40 year partnership with the Make-A-Wish Foundation. The short features a Mickey Mouse Plush that is available for purchase, with proceeds going to the Make-A-Wish Foundation. “From Our Family to Yours” is a three minute short follows Lola and her granddaughter through the years, along with Mickey Mouse. – https://disneyparks.disney.go.com/blog/2020/11/the-celebration-of-40-years-of-disney-and-make-a-wish-continues-with-new-animated-short-and-mickey-mouse-plush/ Discussion Topic: Former Disneyland Parade Performer and Dancer Tim
