Disney fans rejoice! Today on the show we're discussing the Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Revue dinner show at Walt Disney World, which I revisited on a recent Disney vacation with my family. The Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Revue is most likely something you're very familiar with or have never even heard of. It's a bit of a weird phenomenon where this live dinner show that's been running for over fifty years at Fort Wilderness isn't known by a lot of Disney fans. This slice of Americana, old-fashioned family fun, and heaping helpings of barbecue and comfort food combines music, dancing, vaudeville style comedy, and audience interaction. Joining me to discuss is my college pal Frances who had the honor of portraying the role of Flora Long, one of the show's six ensemble characters. Whether you're someone who has personally enjoyed the Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Revue yourself, or perhaps you have no idea what it is, you're sure to enjoy this story of its origins while taking a peek behind the curtain of a tradition steeped in Walt Disney World history. That and so much more is coming your way on this episode of Dizney Coast to Coast. ------ GIVEAWAYS, BONUSES AND SUPPORT: Gain early access to episodes, take part in live streams, and gain more bonuses by joining the DCTC Patreon. Fort Wilderness and We are Pleased with the ResultTrail's End at Fort Wilderness is now open as a quick-service restaurant that, at first look, appears to be a better update than many were expecting. The marketplace concept now includes an on-stage pizza station where you can satisfy your appetite with a slice or the entire pie (remember those make your own pizza days back in the day?). New pizza options include a smokehouse-style pizza topped with house-smoked brisket, sausage, and pepperoni and a roasted vegetable pie. The classic pepperoni and cheese pizzas are still available. The Hot Grab and Go section features pecan-smoked whole chicken or brisket, and a rack of pork ribs. Fort Wilderness' iconic fried chicken is still on the menu as well. Sides are available by the pound including macaroni & cheese, plant-based cowboy beans, and mashed potatoes.Other offerings include cheeseburgers, plant-based vegetable burgers, chicken nuggets, and french fries. Homestyle Meals feature cornbread, coleslaw, and mashed potatoes with gravy and your choice of half a slab of barbecued ribs or two pieces of fried chicken. Rounding it all out is hand-scooped ice cream and specialty coffees, like the Wilderness Latte of chocolate and hazelnut.Light fresh offerings to grab and go include a new Chicken Wrap featuring a new house-made blueberry BBQ sauce or the returning favorite Pioneer Berry Salad. On the sweet side, new items and returning favorites are house-made. The pastry team dusted off old favorite recipes from years past like the Banana Pudding, Carrot Cake Cupcake, Blueberry Bread Pudding, and the popular Strawberry Shortcake from Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Revue, which will be available in a single serve portion. The plant-based Lemon-Blueberry Trifle is filled with layers of lemon curd, fresh blueberries, and whipped 'cream.'Also new, the pastry team has brand-new recipes like the Fort Fruity Cookie featuring fruity cereal and white chocolate chips or the Peanut Butter and Jelly Cupcake. There are also two sweets inspired by the classic campfire favorite: a S'more Cupcake and a S'mores Cookie.Crockett's Tavern has also been refreshed as a lounge with expanded seating, both indoors and out. Here you'll find elevated lounge-style snacks to accompany the new and returning beverages and specialty cocktails. This new menu pays tribute to the heritage of Fort Wilderness and takes "its inspiration from the American frontier." The menu has A Trio of Sliders (a pulled pork slider with BBQ sauce and coleslaw, a brisket slider with Carolina BBQ and pickled onions, and a buffalo chicken slider with house-made blue cheese dressing and dill pickles) and is served with seasoned french fries. For the new Chicken Bites you can pick a favorite sauce including buffalo, garlic-parmesan, or blueberry BBQ. These bites are served with celery, house-made ranch, blue cheese, and seasoned french fries. The Charcuterie Board option has a selection of meats and cheeses with house-made bread and butter pickles, tomato jam, cornbread crostini, and sesame lavash.New plant-based offerings include Crispy Cauliflower paired with a tasty garlic aïoli. This fan-favorite from the Hoop-Dee-Doo is also gluten/wheat friendly. You can also try the plant-based fried green tomato sliders featuring a southern remoulade and citrus greens served with seasoned fries. The Trailblazin' Dessert Trio features a s'more with chocolate pudding, graham cracker crumbs, and house-made marshmallow, a strawberry shortcake with strawberries and whipped cream, and a banana pudding with vanilla wafers, whipped cream, and a banana chip.Adult beverages pay homage to the resort's 50+ year history. Inspired by the Fort Wilderness Railroad that once ran throughout the resort, the All Aboard! Moonshine Cocktail Flight is a sampling of three moonshine cocktails: the Gullywhumper, Blackberry Lightning, and Spiced Appleberry Shine. The Bear-y Buckle combines Uncle Nearest 1884 Small Batch Whiskey, pure cane sugar, lemon juice, bitters, Fever-Tree Ginger Beer, and muddled blackberries for a touch a sweetness in this cocktail. The team is pleased to be serving Uncle Nearest 1884 Small Batch Whiskey.Ever wanted to try America's first spirit, Laird's Applejack Brandy? If so, the Camper's Coupe is for you. This drink features Laird's Applejack Brandy, orange and lemon juices, and a hint of maple syrup. For bright and refreshing flavors try the Meadows Cup. This twist on a cocktail classic has Pimm's No. 1 Liqueur Cup, Hendrick's Gin, Minute Maid Premium Lemonade, and strawberry. If you like old fashioneds, the bark serves up a rotating selection of old fashioned cocktails throughout the year. The summer version is a Clementine Old Fashioned with Angel's Envy Bourbon, Hella Cocktail Co. Orange Bitters, and cane syrup garnished with a clementine wheel and Luxardo cherry. This is a nod to Clementine Beach at the resort.Tequila fans have two options on the menu. A nod to one of the historic camping loops at Fort Wilderness, the Quail Trail Paloma serves up Teremana Blanco Tequila with Hella Cocktail Co. Smoked Chili Bitters, grapefruit soda, and a chili-lime rim. And, of course, you'll still be able to enjoy the porch sippin' favorite – the Moonshine Margarita with Ole Smoky White Lightnin' Moonshine, Triple Sec Liqueur, sweet-and-sour mix, and lime juice. --Thank You for Listening to the Disney Travel PodcastThank you very much for listening to this episode, Amelia and I hope that you enjoyed it. On this episode, we are joined by Disney entertainer Ray DeForest. Ray spent many years in Walt Disney World entertainment and has a large number of stories and tales we are so excited to hear. Throughout this episode, we discuss how Ray got his start with the Walt Disney Company in Washington, DC, and then how he made his way to central Florida. As you will learn, Ray was a pioneer in WDW entertainment, working in everything from characters, dancing, performing in the two theme parks, and more. We also hear some great side stories about flying in ‘The Mouse', where the entertainment offices are, and also how he was able to beat the heat performing in front of the castle. Ray has two areas of performance that caught our attention though; The Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Revue and the opening day celebration at EPCOT Center. Ray talks with JT in detail about these two exciting but different opportunities he was given at Walt Disney World. If you have ever seen any of the guide books with photos of the opening of EPCOT Center, you have seen Ray on stage ushering in the 21st Century in 1982. The Hoop-Dee-Doo segment of this interview has Ray sharing some fond memories, giving a few secrets, and also paying tribute to some other amazing cast members. Ray shared with us a number of great photos from his time at Walt Disney World. He really was part of something special back then and we are so lucky we were able to discuss all of this with him. To find Ray online, take a look at the following sites: – Doris Dear: YouTube, Instagram, Website – Ray's Instagram

In March, total sales were 241,490 points, with 116,000 points (48%) coming from Grand Flo, and another 71,000 (29%) coming from Riviera. Next highest was BLT at 17,200 and AKV at 12,400 points. Now remember, Grand Floridian sales were for current members only during this time period. However, the 241,000 points was the best month of sales since pre-pandemic numbers - and the best month since April 2019. http://www.attractionchecklist.com - Hope you are hungry! This episode we head to Walt Disney World's Fort Wilderness to experience the Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Revue. Our longest episode yet! Recorded on January 16, 2020. TRANSCRIPT: Welcome to Attraction Checklist. This episode we head to Pioneer Hall at Walt Disney World’s Fort Wilderness Resort and Campground to experience the Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Revue! The Walt Disney World website describes this dinner and show by saying: 'A hilarious, high-spirited hootenanny the whole family will enjoy, accompanied by a finger-lickin’ countrified feast.' There are no age or height requirements and there is no thrill level either. Before we visit with Dolly, Six Bits and the rest of the Pioneer Hall Players, here are five fast facts about the Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Revue! 1. The Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Revue debuted at Fort Wilderness on Sunday, June 30, 1974. 2. Pioneer Hall, where the show takes place is built from 1,283 pine logs from Montana and 70 tons of stones from North Carolina. 3. The first draft of the show was entitled "We're With You, Mother McCree!" and a later version was called "The Whoop-Dee-Doo," which inspired the final title. 4. Though the music in the show remains mostly unchanged since the show opened, in 1979, the song ‘Apple Pie Hoedown’ was replaced by “Strawberry Short Cake Walk” after Strawberry Shortcake replaced Apple Pie on the menu. 5. A version of the Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Revue played in Tokyo Disneyland from the park open in 1983 until 1995. And now it’s time for the Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Revue. After the show I’ll give you my thoughts on this extravaganza! This is a stereo recording, but to save you from hearing me eat, I did not wear the binaural microphone headphones, I just left the stereo recorder on the table. You’re welcome. Here now is the Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Revue at Fort Wilderness Resort and Campground at Walt Disney World. Guests visit the island by traveling on a motorized raft which is piloted by a Disneyland Cast Member. The short 3D Jamboree features the famous Mouseketeers and their leader Jimmy Dodd. The presentation includes the animated shorts Melody and Working for Peanuts all in 3D. Storybook Land Canal Boats (originally known as Canal Boats of the World in 1955) features 13 boats (powered by outboard motors) afloat in 465,000 gallons of water.1958:Disneyland's Columbia ship opens on the Rivers of America. It is a full-scale version of the first ship to carry the American flag around the world. It actually was built in large part from the plans for the HMS Bounty (of mutiny fame). Disney's shipbuilders couldn't find plans for the original Columbia, so they relied heavily on those of Captain Bligh's ship, which had similar dimensions. It has cost $300,000 to build. Fowler's Harbor (named after Admiral Joseph Fowler, who helped to build Disneyland) is also officially opened on this day to dock the new ship. A dedication ceremony takes place with Fowler and Walt Disney himself in attendanceThe Disneyland attraction Alice in Wonderland debuts in Fantasyland. Actress, Kathryn Beaumont, voice of Alice in the 1951 animated movie, provides the voice for the dark ride. It follows the path of the movie, as the riders (as Alice) follow the White Rabbit down the Rabbit Hole into Wonderland. (In June 1961, the Monorail will become a true transportation link instead of just a sightseeing ride. With an extended 2 1/2 mile track, Disneyland Hotel guests will be able to board the Monorail at the hotel and begin their park visit in Tomorrowland.)Also on this day at Disneyland, the Matterhorn Mountain with its Matterhorn Bobsleds, opens. Modeled after the Matterhorn, a real mountain in the Swiss Alps, it is the first roller coaster to use cylindrical rails and urethane wheels (which will become standard in the roller coaster industry). At 147 feet tall, the Matterhorn contains 500 tons of structural steel. The ride consists of two separate tracks that run somewhat parallel to each other for much of the ride, intertwining and eventually deviating from each other at the loading areas. The Submarine Voyage ride is officially dedicated on this day as well in Tomorrowland (although it has has been open since June 6). The attraction has cost about $2.5 million to create. The Nautilus and 7 sister submarines - the Triton, Sea Wolf, Skate, Skipjack, George Washington, Patrick Henry, and Ethan Allen allow 38 Disneyland guests at a time to take their own voyage to the North Pole. For the dedication of the new Submarine Voyage attraction the opening ceremonies feature eight live mermaids performing a synchronized swimming ballet in the lagoon.Mrs. Mildred Nelson, wife of the chief machinist on the the first nuclear-powered submarine, USS Nautilus, helps Walt Disney christen the sub D-301, appropriately named Nautilus. The floats include the Blue Fairy, Casey Junior Circus Train, Alice In Wonderland, Chinese Dragon, Dumbo’s Circus, Cinderella’s Ball, "it’s a small world", and the American Finale.1974:Disney World’s "Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Revue" dinner show debuts in Pioneer Hall at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort and Campground. Created as a college workshop summer production only, guest response will be so positive that Walt Disney World entertainment will continue the show with a permanent professional cast at the end of the 1974 summer! 1975:Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln returns to Disneyland after being replaced in 1973 with The Walt Disney Story.1983:The Disneyland parade Flights of Fantasy, which celebrates the opening of the New Fantasyland, debuts.1999:Disney's animated feature Tarzan premieres in the U.S. at the El Capitan Theater in HollywoodThe computer controlled sign that welcomes guests to the main entrance of Disneyland's parking lot is removed. Based on the Disney-Pixar movie Cars, Cars Land is the largest piece of a five-year expansion at Disney California Adventure Park, adding 12 acres of new attractions to the theme park. It is a recreation of the fictional town of Radiator Springs, featuring Luigi's Flying Tires, which flies riders over what looks like a giant air hockey table; Mater's Junkyard Jamboree, which swings riders in trailers in a "tow-si-do" square dance; and Radiator Springs Racers, which takes riders through a race through a mountain range.2016:Finding Dory, a 3D computer-animated comedy adventure film produced by Pixar Animation Studios and released by Walt Disney Pictures, hits U.S. theaters. Settle in for all-you-care-to-eat fried chicken, bbq spare ribs, baked beans, mashed potatoes, and corn. Then top it all off with a giant portion of strawberry shortcake.
Today I'm joined by Missy Khamvongsa, the co-founder of the Facebook group, Disney Planning for Disney Friends. If you're not yet a member, you need to head over right this minute. It's a very friendly group, full of really helpful Disney planning information. Missy also blogs at Magic of Mainstreet with her husband, Franklin, and they know Walt Disney World like the back of their hands. I'm not kidding. If you have ever wondered how an expert does Disney, today is your lucky day! For a minivan, Missy's pro tip is to rent with Alamo and make a reservation for a full-size car and then also a minivan reservation. If you become an Alamo Insider, you can the skip the line! So head straight to the garage and in the Orlando Airport many times there are minivans in the full-size aisle. When Missy arrived, there were two or three minivans sitting in the full-size aisle. You can then do a quick online check-in drive off to Walt Disney World, saving hundreds on your reservation that way. ESPN Club Day Two: Epcot and Disney Springs Missy's Pro Tip: Food & Wine Festival is a very local event. And so from about 3:00 PM on Friday until about Sunday morning, you will not find her at Epcot. The Boathouse Day Three: Disney's Hollywood Studios, Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Revue, and Magic Kingdom Toy Story Land Woody's Lunch Box Raspberry Lunch Box Tart Breakfast Bowl Smoked Turkey Breakfast sandwich Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Revue (Fort Wilderness) Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Revue Minnie Van Lyft Magic Kingdom Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party Fireworks Dessert Party Day Four: Epcot and Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party Garden Grill Review Garden Grill Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party: Missy's strategy The Plaza Cadaver Dans Missy’s Pro Tip: Grab a spot near the Frontierland bridge, looking across the water at Haunted Mansion and the fireworks explode over Haunted Mansion. Day Five: Bon Voyage Breakfast, Epcot (and Blizzard Beach), and Morimoto Asia Bon Voyage breakfast Uber Lyft Royale Breakfast Missy’s Pro Tip: If you are in the mood for waffles, there are waffles on the kid's menu. If you ask for an adult portion, they will most likely oblige and bring scrambled eggs and perhaps sausage as an adult platter. No guarantees, but worth asking if your heart is set on waffles. Blizzard Beach Le Cellier Morimoto Asia Peking Duck Missy’s Pro Tip: You can also get Kakuni Pork Bao from the Street Food window outside! Day Six: Disney's Hollywood Studios and Epcot Hollywood & Vine Jedi Training Via Napoli Ristorante e Pizzeria International Gateway Day Seven: Animal Kingdom and Disney's Hollywood Studios Kilmanjaro Safaris Avatar Flight of Passage Navi River Journey Expedition Everest Rainforest Cafe Minnie’s Seasonal Dining Frozen Sing-Along Celebration Star Wars: A Galactic Spectacular Dessert Party, which Missy gives rave reviews. The first time that she saw the Frozen Sing-Along Celebration. It was just Me and her, everyone else was on either Star Tours or Rock’n’Roller coaster and so I took her to see the Frozen Sing-Along for the first time. We sat in the second row and the curtain comes up and she recognizes the music and then Anna comes on stage and she just starts yelling, ‘Anna’ and reaching out for her. And it was just, it was incredible. I was worried that maybe she would get antsy because it's a 30 minute show. She was mesmerized the whole time. It was a great experience. And then her reaction to Vampirina that we talked about earlier when we did the Hollywood & Vine breakfast was amazing. Oh, and at Royal Sommerhus at Epcot for her to meet Anna and Elsa. We were the first in our group to go into the room. And so there was one family meeting with Elsa and Anna was waiting on the other side and Emma saw that they were in the room and her eyes got wide and she's just yelling, ‘Anna, Elsa’ and Anna was waving at her and she was waving back. We learned we could just put her down next to the character and they would sit on the floor and the interaction that she would have with just her and them was just incredible. And just watching that, I started crying. My sister made fun of me because I just had tears streaming down my face because it was so lovely to see.” Learn more about Missy www.magicofmainstreet.com Disney Planning for Disney Friends Missy'sFacebook page
