https://youtu.be/gX6p70289sc Brian Jue is the COO of Stony Hill Advisors, a full-service brokerage firm connecting sellers of privately owned businesses with qualified buyers. We discuss the foundations of a productive networking group, how to build your ideal life after selling your business, and the friction points to expect when buying or selling a business.  --- Cultivate a Networking Group with Brian Jue Our guest is Brian Jue, a serial entrepreneur and the COO of Stony Hill Advisors, a conglomerate of merchant banking and advisory businesses that help business owners prepare for and realize lucrative exits. Brian, welcome to the show. Thank you, Steve. It's a pleasure to be here. It's exciting to have you on the show. I don't think we had a merchant banker yet on the show. I am sure actually we did not. So I've got some good questions. I'm curious about that, what you do. But before we get there, please share your entrepreneurial journey with our audience, how do you get involved with Stony Hill? Okay, I'll do my best to answer that. Let's see, I think you can say being an entrepreneur and an investor is in my blood. My great-grandfather and grandfather immigrated here to the United States and they were very instrumental in helping develop aspects of San Francisco. Chinatown and other businesses outside of San Francisco as well. In fact, my grandfather opened the first flower store in San Francisco right around, I think it's right after the earthquake I believe, is when it happened. And he was a part of the, in the community, always investing in people's small businesses, helping people. And I grew up, we would go there every weekend and it'd be around that. And it was just, I just thought it was the greatest thing. And I have to say, I admired him. And my father, you know, he tried so many things, went through, he persevered, he had a lot of jobs. And eventually he became one of the founders of Yellow Cab San Francisco and he got to pursue his entrepreneurial journey and he did really well and he then became kind of an investor and I saw that. I mean, my father was one of these guys. I mean, he participated in Apple's IPO, Marvel. I mean, I go on and on and on. I remember one time that he was on the phone with Howard Schultz of Starbucks when Starbucks had just gone public. And it was just one of those guys, he would just do it and go for it. And so all that permeated with me. Now, in college, I actually had several businesses, but I was thinking of going to law school. I was trying to get to the next level, right? And I was interning with a judge and the judge said to me at one point, he said, Brian, why do you want to become an attorney? And Steve, I had no good answer. He said to me, you know what, you're good at business, negotiating, all that type of stuff. Follow that path and hire attorneys when you need them. So I followed that path. Now I did think that I was going to go get an MBA and I was going to go to UCLA Anderson's executive program and all that. But then I got offered a I was in the sports and entertainment industry. I should correct that I was putting together deals with a lot of athletes, funding them, putting together member bilia deals, licensing, that type of thing. I got this offer from a German venture capital fund to manage and run their operations here in the United States. And it wasn't something that I thought I could do, to be honest with you. I was just, wow, this is just, it's a lot, but I decided let's do it. I took it on and this was like right around when the dot com boom was happening. And now I got a chance to elevate my entrepreneurial journey. Because when I was having all these businesses in college, someone said to me, he said to me, Brian, you will never be a large success. And of course that pissed me off, right? But the reason why he goes, you think too small, you're just in small businesses, you need to go bigger. You need to be bigger than that.

Hello everyone and welcome to another edition of Interviewing the Legends I'm your host Ray Shasho. One of the most in demand blues / rock guitarists in the world is a mysterious character who goes by the name of G.E. Smith. Millions of TV viewers know his face-and the shock of unruly blond ponytail that was always falling across it-from his tenure stint of fronting the Saturday Night Live Band. Smith was hired to play lead guitar for Hall and Oates, he stayed for six years (1979-1985) constantly touring and recording with them, racking up hit after hit. Smith toured for almost four years with the legendary Bob Dylan. Smith was also honored to be the musical director for special events such as the 1988 Emmy Awards, the 1993 Rhythm and Blues Foundation Awards and the Bob Dylan 30th Anniversary Concert at Madison Square Garden. The latter event was another of those “fantasy situations” that G.E. keeps getting involved in. “The rehearsals for that Dylan concert you wouldn't believe. I was rehearsing with George Harrison in the morning, Eric Clapton in the afternoon, and Lou Reed at night. One afternoon, rehearsing the finale, I had Harrison, Tom Petty, Clapton, Neil Young, Dylan and Roger McGuinn all lined up. GE also joined Roger Waters 2010 WALL LIVE toured the world three times and toured with him for seven years. In 2015, GE returned to SNL where he received an EMMY award as bandleader, for the 40th SNL anniversary special. In 2015, GE and wife, Taylor Barton, started an exciting project called PORTRAITS, which hosts a rotating roster of acclaimed musicians and artists from all realms for a deeper look at what drives them creatively. Born in Kingston, Jackson grew up in the Stony Hill and Waterford areas. He was given the nickname 'Sanchez' due to his skills – a reference to a footballer of that name. He sang from an early age in the Rehoboth Apostolic Church choir in St Catherine. After working with several Kingston sound systems, first as selector for the Rambo Mango sound system, he began recording and had his first hit with "Lady In Red", recorded for producer Red Man in 1987. By 1988 he was one of Jamaica's most popular singers, and at his performance at Reggae Sunsplash that year he was called back for six encores. He had further hits with "Loneliness Leave Me Alone", produced by Winston Riley, and with his version of Tracy Chapman's "Baby Can I Hold You", which was included on the Philip "Fatis" Burrell-produced Number One album (1989). He has worked with several of Jamaica's other top producers, including King Jammy, Bobby Digital, and Donovan Germain. His 2000 album Simply Being Me reached number 14 on the US Billboard Top Reggae Albums chart, and 2002's Stays on My Mind hit number 9. Primarily known for love songs and cover versions of pop and R&B songs, in the 1990s he mixed gospel themes with other topics on his albums, and released the totally gospel Who is This Man in 1999 and He's Got the Power in 2003. In 2012 he revealed that he is now "a full-time producer", and has been working with studio engineer and writer Rodnie "Tenor" Lion. In May he revealed that he was working on two self-produced albums, one Dancehall (Like a General) and one gospel (There is no Other Like You Lord)

Joy Caffrey, Christie Daniels and Wendy Love Edge interview musical powerhouse Rochelle Bradshaw in Episode 19- Family, Community and Music with Rochelle Bradshaw Rochelle Bradshaw is the proud owner of a powerful, unique voice and her mesmerizing renditions will leave the listener breathless…wanting, yearning for more. Rochelle now lives in the USA but she was groomed in Portland, Jamaica. She embraced singing from an early age, and by the time she was thirteen years old, she was already a member of her local church choir, school choir and a local band. Her deep passion for music soon drove Rochelle from her quiet, sheltered life in Port Antonio to the resort town of Ocho Rios where she quickly became a sought-after vocalist for various bands, playing the hotel and club scene in Ocho Rios, Jamaica. From her new base many new opportunities unfolded for Rochelle. Reggae producer Barry O’Hare ( X-Rated Records) quickly recognized her extraordinary gift and enlisted her for recording sessions which led to collaborations with other producers like Bobby Digital ( Digital B) and Dean Fraser and many chart-topping artists such as Sizzla, Anthony B, Duane Stephenson, Tarrus Riley and Luciano. Her vocals are also featured on two Grammy winning albums Burning Spear Calling Rastafariand Damian Marley’s Stony Hill. Rochelle, who comes from a lineage of distinguished musicians, the late Anthony Bradshaw (father) & Devon Bradshaw (uncle), currently performs with Stephen Marley son of legendary Bob Marley and has toured the world over with some of Jamaica’s finest artists Garnet Silk, Luciano, Chaka Demus & Pliers, Joseph Israel & The Original Wailers. Rochelle describes herself as a humble roots daughter, mellow and easy-going. She mostly writes her own lyrics and the themes in her songs are about her own life experiences. She resists putting a particular brand or description to her music except to say it is soulful, hard-hitting and powerful reggae. With her band Rochelle Bradshaw & Hypnotion the sky is the limit and she hopes that years from now, their music will remain impactful and relevant. Thanks for listening! Considering their prodigious respective careers, the upcoming release of legendary G.E. Smith and LeRoy Bell’s Stony Hill, sets the bar high. Between them, first-call blues/rock guitarist Smith and revered soul/R&B singer-songwriter Bell have crafted a uniquely compelling rock ‘n’ soul record that’s poised to attract all music loving audiences. Why the name Stony Hill? It signifies the struggle of ‘pushing that rock up the hill’ muses Bell. The collection chronicles an in depth look at where we stand as an American democracy without prejudice or presumption. LeRoy delves into the pulse of the American culture with his wise tone and delivers the eleven co-written songs with conviction. “I’ve been looking for a great singer for thirty years, at least – not just a good singer, but a great singer,” Smith recalled of first hearing Bell in 2018. “I said: ‘that’s the voice – that’s the one I’ve been looking for!’” Perhaps best known for his decade as the distinctively ponytailed musical director for Saturday Night Live (for which he won an Emmy), Smith’s career has also included six years with Hall & Oates at the height of their multi-platinum powers; NET (never ending tour) with Bob Dylan and Rogers Waters. Smith also was sideman to David Bowie, Mick Jagger, and Tina Turner; He was the band leader for everything from the Rock ‘N Roll Hall of Fame Museum concert to Dylan’s 30th anniversary show at Madison Square Garden. Meanwhile, Bell was carving out a career as a hit songwriter for the likes of Elton John, Jennifer Lopez, Teddy Pendergrass, and The Three Degrees, while also releasing records with duo Bell and James (including successful single “Livin’ It Up (Friday Night)”), and a string of solo albums. Today the leader of his own band, LeRoy Bell and His Only Friends, Bell earned legions of new fans as a finalist in the inaugural season of TV’s smash reality music competition The X Factor in 2011. “It really intrigued me to do something that’s a little bit different and to bring my talent with his talent,” said Bell of his coming together with Smith. “[To] try to make something new; make something happen. And I think we accomplished that.” Initially introduced by Smith’s wife, the duo discovered such instant chemistry that they began recording together almost immediately. Combining compositions from both artists, co-written tracks, and a couple of cover versions (the traditional ballad “Black Is the Color (of My True Love's Hair)” and Buffy Sainte-Marie’s “Cod’ine”), the resulting Stony Hill – also named for the street where Smith resides – is a robust ride through soulful, R&B-tinted blues rock characterized by emotive vocals, tastefully virtuosic play-for-the-song guitar, and a throughline emphasis on melody.

My guest today is Mr. G.E. Smith. As one of the most seen and heard guitarists in the heyday of late 70's - 80's era SNL (when the show was at it's peak) you would have no doubt seen G.E. on your TV set, mugging it up for the camera and playing a variety of cool vintage guitars while rubbing shoulders with the likes of guest guitarists Eddie Van Halen, Eric Clapton and David Gilmour. What a lot of people don't realize is that during this time (and often the very same day) GE was working with Bob Dylan, flying around the world and coming in for his "day gig" on SNL. He had just departed a huge 6 year run with Daryl Hall and John Oates. This episode of Riff Raff is particularly interesting because I get to interview the guitarist that once not only stood in my shoes but basically formed the mold-GE was the guitarist with Daryl Hall and John Oates in the era of MTV and those huge radio hits that we still hear on the radio today- Maneater, Private Eyes and Kiss is on My List just to name a few. But his resume doesn't stop there- he also worked with Bob Dylan, David Bowie, Mick Jagger and many many others. These days G.E. has a new album coming out with newly found collaborator and singer LeRoy Bell- Their new project is called “Stony Hill”. It's a rootsy, raw pairing that is perfect for GE's guitar playing and songwriting. Check out "America" and "Black is the Color of my True Love's Hair" for a taste of this great pairing. We talk about guitars, Hall and Oates, Dylan, SNL, T-Bone Wolk, Stony Hill, guitars, why Eric Clapton took his pickup covers off of his Les Paul pickups in 1965 and all things in between.Shout out to my manager Charles Driebe (Blind Ambition Mgmt. for connecting the Riff Raff podcast w/ G.E..Support this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/the-riff-raff-with-shane-theriot/donationsAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy

The one and only Damian Marley is in the Neighborhood and it's an honor to sit down with one of reggae's most revolutionary artists. Big Boy genuinely wants to know what it's like walking around Jamaica as a Marley, and the first word Damian uses is respect. He's got a record that's out and a cannabis strain by the same name: Stony Hill, and he talks about both. The Neighborhood also wants to know what it's like kicking it with Jay-Z in Jamaica. Lloyd Mason – Jamaican Pre-Ska - Bass, Flute, Oboe, Piccolo The Val Bennett orchestra was playing dance music at a house party on Lloyd Mason’s street (7th Street in Greenwich Town) and a five year old Lloyd snuck out of the house to listen to the orchestra and he stayed there all night long. “Thats where I belong and I believe that’s where my music started – right there.” In 1945 at age ten, Lloyd was living with his mother and became unruly. Soon, his father came to get him and brought him to Stony Hill School. Lloyd’s father served in the Jamaican Army with the bandmaster and arranged for this move in order to teach Lloyd a trade or to learn music. Lloyd was not put into music immediately. He was taken to learn shoe-making. Six months later, the bandmaster came to speak with him and examined Lloyd’s fingers and his mouth, handed him a six-hole fife and said, “You’re going to learn this.” Bass player, Cluett Johnson’s brother was also a youth at Stony Hill School and he played the piccolo. Cluett’s brother taught Lloyd the fife. Roland Alphonso was also at Stony Hill and was playing the slide drum. Despoite his young age, Lloyd became accomplished at the flute in playing with Stony Hill Boy’s Band. Over at the Jamaican Military Band, a man named Spud Murphy was the drum major and the flute and piccolo player. As it came time for Spud Murphy to retire, The Military Band was challenged as it had no trained members to play the fife. None could read, write, or play the fife. To address this need, the Bandmaster for the Military Band spoke with the bandmaster at Stony Hill about Lloyd’s move to the Military Band. There was no audition for Lloyd Mason after Spud Murphy left. It was obvious who had the ability to fit the role. The fellow band members began to call him “Spuddy” or “Boy Mason.” Lloyd was the youngest person in the Jamaican Military Band and was a “young hand.” Marjorie Whylie (well known educator and Musical Director of The Jamaican National Dance Theatre Company) commented on the work of Mr. Mason, “Lloyd Mason is a well known bass player who can read music very well and is an absolute asset for musicians in his company.” _______________________________________________________ Selected Cuts: Off the “I Cover the Water Front” LP Port-O-Jam Records, Recorded at Federal Studios Featuring Cecil Lloyd (Piano), Lloyd Mason (Bass), Roland Alphonso (Tenor Saxophone), Lowell Morris (Drums), Don Drummond (Trombone) “Sometimes I Am Happy” “Loafers and Wristless” “Grooving With The Beat” ________________________________________________________ Off the “Jazz Jamaica” LP, Studio One Records, Recorded at Federal Studios Featuring Don Drummond (Trombone), Ernest Ranglin (Guitar), Cecil Lloyd (Piano), Carl McLeod (Drums), Billy Cooke (Trumpet), Tommy McCook (Tenor Saxaphone), Roland Alphonso (Tenor Saxophone), Lloyd Mason (Bass). “Calypso Jazz” “Serenade In Sound” (Featuring Don Drummond) b “The Answer” (Featuring Tommy McCook)
