Never too late to dig in. This week on the NXpress Nintendo Podcast, Cameron Daxon, Marc Kaliroff, and Campbell Gill grab their shovels and don their horned helmets to dive into Yacht Club Games and Nitrome's latest concoction with an in-depth review of Shovel Knight Dig on Switch! The latest in a long line of Shovel Knight games, Dig takes the platformer in a new direction–namely, down. The hosts gush about this roguelike platformer, which takes all the charm and platforming mastery of the mainline games and successfully translates it to an addictive roguelike formula. Perhaps it doesn't add as much to the wider Shovel Knight lore as some might hope, but for what it is, the gang agrees: Shovel Knight Dig unearths an excellent new direction for this beloved indie series. Next up, Marc offers a musical breakdown with a review of Taiko no Tatsujin: Rhythm Festival, the most recent of Bandai Namco's long-running series of percussive perfection. This game might not reinvent the taiko wheel, but it does double down on everything that has made this series of percussion games so fun: addictive gameplay with a ridiculous amount of crazy songs to play. It even manages to make a subscription model work! Taiko no Tatsujin: The Drum Master was released on PC and Xbox Game Pass, but unfortunately the PC version had to be temporarily delisted because you couldn't actually run it. Luckily, a mod was made to put a bandaid on the problem so people could play it. (But really, Drum'n'fun on the Nintendo Switch is a much better version of Taiko no Tatsujin and frequently goes on sale!) Valve has announced that the Steam Deck will start shipping in February, so watch your emails as you will only have 72 hours to confirm your order when your spot in line comes up. Sega has sold its remaining shares in Genda GiGO Entertainment which means that Sega will no longer OPERATE arcades in Japan after doing so for multiple decades. (This does NOT mean that Sega is no longer making arcade games.) Then we take calls about Taiko no Tatsujin and Pokemon Legends: Arceus.
Was passiert? Sagen euch Taiko No Tatsujin oder Picross etwas?

On this episode of Video Games 2 the MAX hosts Sean Garmer and Marc Morrison discuss the games they are playing such as Marc finally trying out Yakuza: Like a Dragon and Taiko No Tatsujin, although he got some bad news about his drums. Sean also played Another Eden a mobile JRPG that was put on Steam and how he’s so glad his PC has a touch screen. The NPD numbers from March 2021 are also out too, Sony being the fastest-selling console ever, Monster Hunter Rise and Outriders selling well, and more. They also discuss the games they are excited about from the Nintendo Indie World Showcase. Sean is happy about seeing more from Last Stop, There is No Game: Wrong Dimension hitting the Switch, more on Cris Tales, and the big announcement of Oxenfree 2. While Marc liked Never Yield and Aztech Forgotten Gods. Marc is also a bit befuddled by Konami’s latest indie title Getsufumaden and this leads to a discussion on a rumor flying around that Microsoft may have purchased the rights to Konami franchises. If it is even real, what could be the result of this? Plus, a big rumor started suddenly that was quickly and thankfully squashed by the company itself regarding Square-Enix having interested suitors, although the company has no interest in selling at all. The guys talk about what this would mean and how it would not be good for gaming. Plus the latest details on the Final Fantasy VII Remake: Intergrade and the Yuffie DLC finally having a standalone price. The duo also converses on why there should be another F-Zero game and that the excuse of “we can’t think of anything innovative to do with it” is a really lame reason to not make one. Especially when Nintendo doesn’t have a racing game of this type. They also ponder the same thing for Star Fox. Plus, the end of Nintendo Labo leads to a conversation on what could have been with Toys to Life. Other things discussed in the episode: Resident Evil 4 VR, Castlevania Anime canceled after Season 4, WWE 2K22’s debut and the wrestlers that were recently released, and the Upcoming Games.Amazon Free 30 Day Free Trial: http://getamazonmusic.com/w2mnetworkGrammarly Special Offer: http://getgrammarly.com/w2mnetworkFacebook:https://www.facebook.com/W2MNetworkTwitter:https://twitter.com/W2MSeanhttps://twitter.com/HumanityPlaguehttps://twitter.com/ApertureSilenceTimestamps: Start: Sean had to get a Covid-19 test due to getting some allergy symptoms at workGames We Are Playing: Another Eden: The Cat Beyond And Time-Space (4:50)Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla (8:28) Marc buying Lunar: Silver Star Story Complete (9:15)Taiko No Tatsujin (9:40) Yakuza: Like a Dragon (11:30)Breathedge (17:15)Headlines: PS5 fastest-selling console, NPD Numbers for March 2021 (20:40)Nintendo Indie World Showcase & Konami Rumors (28:30)F-Zero is not Dead and why it should come back, the same thing for StarFox, and the end of Nintendo Labo (43:45)A random conversation about what could have been with Toys to Life (51:25)Grammarly Ad (57:30)Final Fantasy VII: Intergrade Yuffie DLC has a price (59:10)Some Resident Evil Showcase Talk and Resident Evil 4 VR (1:02:10)Square-Enix Has Some Suitors But is Not Selling (1:04:40)Castlevania Anime canceled after Season 4 (1:11:40)WWE 2K22 And Sean’s thoughts on the recent wrestler releases (1:14:30)Ending: The Upcoming Games (1:21:30)

Rhythm in video games has been around since before there was even the technical capabilities for decent music. The last decade saw a surge in this genre, followed by a precipitous crash. Sean and Vinnk talk about their respective introductions to the rhythm game genre, where it's lead them, and what they've been playing lately despite the digger the genre has since taken.
