What's the best way to determine whether or not your business should engage on potentially controversial societal issues? In this episode, Harvard Business School senior lecturer Hubert Joly explains how to create a process for decision-making around these issues, in collaboration with your board. Joly wrote a case study based on his own time as chairman and CEO of electronics retailer Best Buy. When George Floyd was murdered in Minneapolis in 2020, just a few miles from their global headquarters, Joly led the organization through weeks of unrest and protests in their community and within the firm. The episode also offers lessons from other organizations, like Nike, Disney, and Starbucks, whose leaders have spoken out on issues related to racism and LGBTQ rights. Key episode topics include: leadership, business ethics, social movements, corporate social responsibility. In this episode, I expand on a story I wrote on my blog that happened this past weekend. I also talk about how hard we are on ourselves and sometimes, when we don't take a breath, we dig the hole deeper and may accidentally lash out at others. In business and in our personal lives we have to learn to take a breath. We also need to understand we're all just doing the best we can. Find me on all my social media by clicking here. Are you missing out on new clients because you're stuck in an old way of thinking about your marketing? Mark Homer, CEO of GNGF (Get Noticed Get Found), is here to share his top five marketing strategies for 2022 and beyond. Mark's full-service marketing agency strives to put the law firm back in law firm marketing. Mark believes that most law firm business owners are almost accidental entrepreneurs. They started their firm to practice law and then realized at some point along the way they were running a business, which requires finance, operations, HR, and marketing. Even if you're not spending a dime on marketing, you should track and measure where your leads originate. Are they coming from Google? Are they coming from referral partners? Do you have a clearly defined intake process? Measuring and tracking leads falls apart when you don't have a clearly defined intake process. Creating and defining your intake process is a better use of your time and resources in the short term than throwing more money at marketing and leads. We spend a good deal of time talking about the impact of Google on your law firm marketing. Mark shares tips for getting the most out of your Google Business Profile and why you should be treating Google like a valued referral partner. Learn what steps, tools, and processes you should have in place before you spend your first dollar on marketing. Anne and Pamela discuss Black Lives Matter and the impact of "Taking a Stand" as a business. The Bosses discuss the role of values, morals, and beliefs, and how they can be woven into a brand message. This moment in time is an opportunity to educate and grow. Look inward and decide how you, and your business, will interact with important issues. Being well aware of my privilege and inability to fully address this issue as a white woman, I would like to do what I can to amplify Black voices. Therefore, I invite BIPOC voice actors to submit their stories or statements on issues of racism in the voiceover industry. We will air the statements uncensored on upcoming episode(s) of VO BOSS in their entirety. Thank you, and I’m listening - Anne 2020 BOSS Footer Show notes and exclusive offers at VOBoss.com! The Accountability Minute:Business Acceleration|Productivity
Today we are talking about a 5th way of the 5 ways to help you stay more committed to your business, which is, Remember to Take Breaks. Keep in mind that you are not limitless. You are going to occasionally get burnt out, and you are going to get frustrated… just like everyone else. The important thing to remember, however, is that it is okay to walk away and take a break when this happens. If you don't, you can dig yourself into a hole deep enough to consume all of your energy… and coming back from this hole is far more challenging. It is important to get away and ‘recharge' your batteries before you deplete yourself. Taking breaks to get rejuvenated needs to be a part of your plan and a commitment to yourself, so you can be the very best you need to be when it is required. To wrap up we have explored over the past 5 days - What Can You Do To Stay More Committed? When it comes to being committed, it is all about taking the first step. Commit to a single step, and then move onto the next one. Commit to your long-term goals, but don't let the whole picture overwhelm you. Taking each one of these tips into consideration is a great way to get started on the path to establishing a greater commitment for your business, to yourself, and to your overall success. You WILL succeed, as long as you stay consistent and committed to your goals. If you get value from these Podcasts, please take a minute to leave me a short review. I would really appreciate it. People are the most valuable asset of any organization. In this Podcast we discuss 3 powerful strategies for identifying key people within an organization and positioning them for organizational success.
The reason that I have put the e-book (Master Your Time and Get More Done in 10 Easy Steps) together, was to help people understand about time management and how can they get more out of their day. My programs in general circle around looking at your “why”, looking at your purpose, looking at your values, understanding your mindset and understanding your internal and external influences. This book focuses down on time management and getting more done in those same minutes everyone has every day. I have put together 10 easy steps, which I will be breaking down in this podcast. Each step comes with an action point, so I suggest you get a pen and a paper handy while listening! So, here are the steps: Planning 101 If you want to become successful, if you want to improve your personal and business life, then you need to have your own personal business development plan. Planning allows you to get more things done, stay out of stress, being more productive, and enjoying what we do. Action Point – Get an A4 sheet of paper and start planning your week ahead. Work out what commitments have you already got in your week ahead, what actions and tasks do you want to do. Then start taking a focused look at that plan every single night before the next day to make sure that you are fully prepared. Social Media Meltdown Social media may hinder your productivity, thus you need to be very careful on how you use it. As they say, everything in moderation. Action Point – Make yourself a commitment that you are not going to check your social media accounts until you have completed your important tasks. Avoiding Interruptions The normal office setup these days is made up of multi-stakeholder teams and layouts, so it is easy to say that interruptions will come from anywhere. It is important to find out where you are most likely going to get interrupted from so that you can plan out how to manage these interruptions, which most of the time is solved by merely learning to say “NO”. Action Point – at the start of the day, try to anticipate when and where you will be interrupted during your day, and try to keep yourself focused and avoid and manage the interruptions. Get Fit for Business Take opportunities to keep yourself fit and keep your brain and body hydrated. Eat healthy, and exercise! Action Point – Next week, make sure you do a little bit of exercise, make sure you’re thinking about getting that exercise, and make smarter food choices (ditch that chocolate!) . Delegate and Use Your Network Understand where you are sitting in the organisation, as well as the capabilities, training, and needs of both you and your team. Delegating means empowering those in lower level, giving them room to grow. Action Point – Take out your current to-do list (if you have one) and break down all the areas where you think you could delegate, and give it to someone else. Do this, and watch at the end of the week how productive you have become. Categorise Your Tasks When you start categorising your tasks, and put them into specific categories (i.e. team work, project work, personal tasks), then you are going to get more things done because you will focus on particular tasks in one particular area at the same time. Action Point – Take look at your current weekly to-do list, break it down, and group those items into categories, and then put them into a schedule (into the week). This will then help you focus. Celebrate and Record Success This is about empowering your teams, giving them more work to do, and getting them to work productively. Action Point – At the end of each day, record what went well, and what didn’t go so well. Summarise it, learn from it, and share it with your team. This is about effective feedback, making sure that we are recognising the people who are working for us. Set Up Sunday By setting up yourself on a Sunday, it enables you to get ready for the week ahead. Action Point – Find yourself a spot on Sunday morning, Sunday afternoon, or Sunday evening and then get a piece of paper, start planning out the week, make sure to prepare for all the commitments that you got, and also add those tasks that are purposeful. This will give you good results. Act Rather than Re-act This is about taking calculated control, taking a step back if you think that you got into a situation where you get into a flash point, take a deep breath and don’t react to it. Stay nice and calm. Action Point – Be proactive. Try to think about the possible instances when you get into conflicts, and remind yourself to stay calm. Book Yourself a Meeting Schedule a “YOU” time, this will help you focus on what you want to achieve. If you go into a quiet place where you can fully focus, you will get things done quicker. But you can only do this if you commit that specific time to be yours alone. Action Point – Look at your week ahead and book your “YOU” time, do yourself an agenda, get yourself prepared, go off a quiet nice place, and just try out and see how you get on. Contact Details To contact me, you can visit my website at http://innovatetosuccess.com/ Quotes To-do list is just a list of things that you want to do. -- Ian Luckett When we get into situations at our work when it is very busy and stressful, people within your team will look at you for control, they will look at you to see if you are in control, and if they feel that you are in control then they will feel at ease. -- Ian Luckett

Subscribe to Earn Your Happy on iTunes. Kate McKibbin is the self-professed very-tall, super nerdy founder of the blog, Secret Bloggers’ Business, and creator of several successful online blog courses and workshops. Cutting her teeth in the magazine industry in 2007 (when online shopping was just starting to take off), Kate created one of Australia’s largest independent lifestyle blogs (Drop Dead Gorgeous Daily), and grew to a team of five with more than 500,000 visitors a month and several awards to show for her efforts. Even though her much-loved blog was doing well, Kate still felt called to do more and help more people. In 2014, she created her second business, Secret Bloggers’ Business, to share everything she’d learned about how to create, grow and run a successful blogging business. She did so well that in 2015 she was awarded the Female Entrepreneur of the Year award for her contributions to women in technology. Today, Kate has made it her mission to help bloggers and creatives around the world turn their passions into something that’s profitable, too. So perhaps you’re looking to get into blogging, but don’t know if you have what takes. Here’s a few things to keep in mind. While a lot of work goes on behind the scenes of a blog, you’re not going to get very far if you haven’t found your passion. Keep in mind that while blogs used to only be about the person who wrote it (what they ate, what they watched etc.), today’s bloggers must understand that it’s not about THEM! People will follow you based on your point of view, your knowledge and expertise. But don’t worry! “You don’t have to be the biggest expert in the world. You just have to be a few steps down the track from where your audience is at and help them.” Also, content, content, content. Are you constantly creating and sharing your findings online? If you can find a group of people who you know you would love to help – and you have the content, experiences and skills to back it up, go for it. You can’t go wrong if you’re going into it from a place of service. So, where do you start? Kate suggests the following steps: Find your niche. Go “free range” for a bit if you have multiple ideas and can’t decide. What are you drawn to? Put some feelers out there (social media, existing contacts that you may have). What types of things get more engagement? Start putting some of your ideas/content out there and see what draws people in and what sticks. Brainstorm content. This is a biggie. Come up with as many ideas as possible (Kate suggests 100). What themes could you use (season, different times of the year etc.)? Just because you think it’s great doesn’t mean it’s going to resonate with your audience. Let your audience tell you what direction they want you to go. If you do start a blog, be sure to have an extreme amount of PATIENCE. Allow 6-12 months to see any type of reward. For Kate, one of her biggest benefits was to have the freedom to do work that she loved. Give it your all, but also be cautiously optimistic. “Set yourself up so you feel safe enough to take a scary leap.” When you’re starting out, be super responsive to your audience and be CONSISTENT in your content. This doesn’t mean you have to put out things daily. It can be once a week or month. Just figure out what’s realistic for you and do that. Keep in mind that nothing in life, especially a blog, has guarantees. And you can be certain that others are doing something similar to you. But here’s the thing…all audiences and bloggers are different in SO many ways. “Don’t compare yourself to others in your space. Find what works for you, but still provides great value to your audience. Focus on you and what’s right for your audience.” There will be bumps along the road, but stick to it and don’t give up! “If you’ve got something to say, if you’ve got something to give, and you’ve got a burning fire that says you have to do it, and you feel that pull. There’s no way you’re going to let yourself fail.” In This Episode You Will Hear About: Blogging Being a Blogger Online Business Online Training Being an Entrepreneur Success Resources: secretbloggersbusiness.com From Blog to Profit, Free Blogging Workshop: JoinTheBlogParty.com IG: @secretbloggersbusiness FB: facebook.com/secretbloggersbusiness Follow me on social media @LoriHarder on Instagram and Lori Harder on Facebook. I heard some advice from an entrepreneur about how hopeful entrepreneurs should pursue their first business idea. (That advice is explained in the podcast below.) It made me think about how long it can take before your business starts earning revenue. How long is too long? Should you be fighting for revenue right out of the gate? Should you keep a job so you have some financial stability while you get your own business off the ground? In this episode we share our advice about these question. We've been, done and seen a lot in the world of small business, and this episode brings some excellent perspective. Enjoy! Shownotes: fizzleshow.co/164
