There is an old Chinese Proverb, “化干戈为玉帛” which translates to, “Turning weapons of war into gifts of jade and silk”. It means turning hostility into friendship. That's what today's book is all about.
It's Monday so that means it is Go Time! Your 60 seconds of motivation to get you going on the right road for your week ahead. Today's message is from a Chinese Proverb, To Know the Road Ahead, Ask Those Coming Back!

In Episode #66, we dive deep into the Economic and Property Market Outlook for 2024 with none other than Paul Bloxham, the Chief Economist at HSBC. With 2023 posing significant challenges for mortgage holders due to rapid interest rate hikes and the cash rate settling at 4.35%, the uncertainties ahead have left experts and economists with divergent opinions on what lies in store for 2024. Paul brings a wealth of expertise to the table, offering a unique perspective on the Australian economy and its resilience amidst global economic shifts. But before we delve into the economic intricacies, we kick off with our Thought of the Week: "The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago. The second best time is now." – a Chinese Proverb. What lessons can we draw from this timeless wisdom, and how does it apply to our economic and property decisions today? Our podcast covers a wide array of pressing questions, including Paul's role at HSBC, the current state of the Australian economy, the impact of immigration on property markets, the aftermath of 13 interest rate rises, and the forecast for major capital city property markets in the next 12 to 24 months. We explore topics ranging from the structural property supply issue in Australia, the potential rise in forced sellers, to the resilience of the economy against external shocks. Additionally, we scrutinise the government's role during the Covid period and identify sectors vulnerable in the upcoming months. To gain valuable insights into navigating an extended period of higher interest rates, we conclude with practical advice for average consumers and home buyers. Being and Making Disciples: A Catholic podcast about fruitful ministry.
Dan and Justin discuss what it would look like if we dared to have a 100-year dream for work as disciples of Jesus. What if we labored not for results that we would see in a matter of weeks or months, but rather decades, or even centuries? " Dishonest scales are an abomination to the LORD, but an accurate weight is His delight." Proverbs 11:1. Fairness is essential to our lives; it brings balance and harmony. Proverbs 11:1 reads, "A false balance is an abomination to the Lord, but a just weight is his delight." This scripture speaks of the importance of fairness in all aspects of life. This Proverb shows how God values fairness above all else and how it plays a vital role in our day-to-day lives. Fairness can be seen in many areas, such as business transactions, legal proceedings, relationships, sportsmanship, and so much more. Fairness encourages us to treat each other respectfully regardless of our differences and helps create a sense of justice for everyone involved. Fairness also promotes accountability and responsibility by ensuring everyone has equal access to resources or opportunities without biases or prejudices. Remember, honesty is the best standard to trade in life. It is an essential quality we should all strive for if we want God to be involved in our matters. I know we mostly talk about faith as things that please God, but we forget that honesty makes God get involved. Leviticus 19:36 says, "You shall maintain honest scales and weights, an honest ephah, and an honest hin. I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt." I read a story of a woman who walked into a grocery store just before closing time and asked, "Do you still have chicken?" The Butcher opens his fridge, takes out his only chicken left, and puts it on the weighing scale. It weighs 4 lbs. The woman looks at the chicken and the scale and asks, "Do you have one that's a bit bigger than this one?" He says yes With a smile. The Butcher puts the chicken back into the fridge and then takes it out again, but this time when he puts it on the scale, he craftily keeps his thumb on the scale pan. The scale now shows 5 lbs. "Do you want this chicken? The Butcher asked, pointing to a plate. "That's wonderful," says the woman. "I'll take both of them, please!" (Laugh out Loud). The Butcher is still in the cold room, looking for the second one till this moment. Dishonest is deceitful, unjust, and cruel, an abomination to God and humankind. Chinese Proverb says, "Whenever there is profit to be made, then think of honesty." Amen. We should avoid dishonesty in our daily transactions. "Whoever pursues righteousness and love finds life, prosperity, and honor." Proverbs 21:21. Amen. Let us pray Thank God for all your blessings. Oh Lord, help me to keep my heart pure and strong in Jesus' name. Holy Ghost saturates my heart with honesty. Amen. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/pastor-divineo/support

"And a voice from heaven said, "This is my beloved son, whom I love; with him, I am well pleased" Matthew 3:17. Our focus today is hearing God's affirming and validating voice. Have you ever been in a situation where you didn't know what to do? You felt lost and uncertain of which way to turn. So, you did what anyone would do in that situation - you asked for guidance. But, instead of feeling relief at having a clear path laid out before you, you felt more anxious than ever. Why? Because you couldn't hear God's voice. You couldn't understand what He was trying to tell you. At times, we are faced with doubts and disappointments. We feel let down by those we wish could believe in us. Hence, we desperately crave validation and reassurance. Voice is the prose of words in which everyone expresses their thoughts and feelings. Those words we speak impact others to withstand or wither in their life challenges. This is why we need the Holy Spirit in our hearts to speak words of validation and acceptance from the throne of God to us on this earth, filled with doubt and fear. As Christians, we need to hear God's reassuring voice within our hearts consistently. 1 John 5:9 says, "Even if we accept human testimony, the testimony of God is greater. For this is the testimony that God has given about His Son." Chinese Proverb says, "The tongue can paint what the eyes can't see." So my question is, do you often hear the voice of the Holy Spirit speaking to reassure you that He loves you and that you are indeed a child of God? This is super important; it molds our identity and response to life. To continually become acquainted with the voice of assurance and validation from the Lord, you need to listen to God's voice through His words with a more profound sense of openness and acceptance. You need this heavenly approval resounding in your inner ears, heart, and mind to keep you from falling into the enemy's deception. The voice that would not allow one word of doubt, fear, despair, and discouragement to settle on your mind, instead you will hear these Saying words like: "God loves me; I can make it; it is possible because I believe in Christ Jesus; I am accepted in Christ; I am competent in Jesus." You see, with God's voice and His word, there is no place for argument or confusion because He is God by himself. Amen. "Declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times the things that are not yet done, saying, my counsel shall stand, and I will do all my pleasure." Isaiah 46:10. Amen. Prayer: I command every evil voice controlling my daily covenant to be silent in the name of Jesus. I plead the blood of Jesus against every voice of shame, embarrassment, and reproach in my house, business, and ministry in Jesus' name. Amen. https://maglife.org/ --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/pastor-divineo/support
Every year at this time I am reminded by letters I received about International Hug Day. This year, it is September 17th. It is rather interesting that it is a week later than Grandparents Day. The National Grandparents Day is the second Sunday in September every year. As a great grandmother and support person for the grandparents around the country, I'm becoming more aware each day that we are the "ancestors." There are so many things that only grandparents can contribute. They give of their talents and skills, are able to tell those family stories, and listen to their grandchildren with patience and unconditional love. A recent article I read mentioned that grandparents today are rearing their children's children at an alarming pace. Over 32 million American children live with their grandparents. This is an increase of nearly 40% In the past decade. Other statistics mentioned that grandparents spend $30 billion dollars annually on their grandchildren. This is through telephone calls, travel, restaurant meals, and gifts. Two thirds visit their grandchildren regularly. Even those who don't live nearby. Dr. T Berry Brazelton states, "Children who have the luxury of relationships with grandparents win out in all studies of child development. The opportunity to experience multiple models while learning about life adds significantly to the child's potential." Grandparents - have you hugged your grandchildren today? And grandchildren remember to give that special grandparent a hug, too. Warm Thought: The old are the precious gem in the center of the household. Chinese Proverb. Remember International Hug Day! And now that all that is out of the way - let's get to the Podcast! Avoiding Slips And Falls Have you ever heard the Chinese Proverb, “The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago. The second best time is now.”? It means that if you want success and growth in the future, the best time to act is now. So how does it apply to safety and our message for today? Although we're not even done with Summer yet (In the United States), Fall and Winter are right around the corner. And with those seasons come wet leaves, ice, snow, and all sorts of slick elements not usually present. Add the usual spills and leaks from machines/vehicles in the workplace to the mix - and you have all sorts of potentially hazardous conditions. Slips and falls account for hundreds of fatalities, THOUSANDS of missed days, and OSHA Violations. As with most unsafe situations in the workplace – most of these situations could have been avoided. Here are just a few ways you can help prevent slips from happening - and get ahead of potential situations. - Encourage staff to wipe off and stamp their feet before entering your facility during rainy or snowy days. - Make sure you have anti-slip tape, gritty surfaces, and mats in problem areas. - Repair machines/vehicles that leak. And if you can't stop leaks - contain them with proper spill containment products. - Encourage staff to alert maintenance as soon as a wet area is discovered. - Regularly mop wet areas and put out signs/cones indicating the situation. - Make sure staff wears slip-resistant footwear wherever applicable. These are just a few tips to make you aware - but if followed, should be a great start toward avoiding slips and falls at your facility. We look forward to seeing you next week for another Warehouse Safety Tips. Until then, have a great week and STAY SAFE! Before moving on - here's a word from one of our sponsors. Welcome to Day 1871 of our Wisdom-Trek, and thank you for joining me. This is Guthrie Chamberlain, Your Guide to Wisdom Make Wise Decisions – Daily Wisdom Welcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps. We are on Day 1871 of our Trek, and it's time to explore another nugget of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote and some wise words from Gramps for today's trek. Wisdom is the final frontier in gaining true knowledge. So we are on a daily trek to create a legacy of wisdom, seek out discernment and insights, and boldly grow where few have chosen to grow before. Hello, my friend; this is Gramps. Thanks for coming along on today's trek as we increase Wisdom and Create a Living Legacy. https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Proverbs%2016%3A16&version=NLT (Proverbs 16:16) How much better to get wisdom than gold, and sound judgment than silver! If you apply the words you hear today, over time, it will help you become more healthy, wealthy, and wise as you continue your daily trek of life. So let's jump right in with today's nugget: Today's quote is from a Chinese Proverb, and it is: A wise man makes his own decisions, an ignorant man follows public opinion. Make Wise Decisions I don't believe it has been ever more evident than today with 24/7 always-on news and the endless stream of social media posts that the masses are being led down a path of misinformation and fake news. This misinformation is prevalent with all types of media outlets, from ultra-liberal to ultra-conservative. Logically thinking for ourselves and making wise decisions seems to be a fading character trait of most people. The conclusion appears that we are losing a large segment of people who are truly wise and capable of lining up their worldview with God's Word. We must keep God's Word in our lives as a compass to navigate us through the tidal waves of fake news. If you think that fake news only comes from one side of the political spectrum, think again. The extensive media outlets are driven by revenue and profits, and they warp their information to fit the audience that will drive the most revenue. Don't be misled, but instead, invest time daily reading, absorbing, and studying God's Word so that you will have a Biblical worldview. With this Biblical worldview, you can make wise decisions and determine if what you hear or read aligns with the truth found in God's Word. https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Galatians+6%3A4-10&version=NLT (Galatians 6:4-10) Pay careful attention to your own work, for then you will get the satisfaction of a job well done, and you won't need to compare yourself to anyone else. For we are each responsible for our own conduct. Those who are taught the word of God should provide for their teachers, sharing all good things with them. Don't be misled—you cannot mock the justice of God. You will always harvest what you plant. Those who live only to satisfy their own sinful nature will harvest decay and death from that sinful nature. But those who live to please the Spirit will harvest everlasting life from the Spirit. So let's not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don't give up. Therefore, whenever we have the opportunity, we should do good to everyone—especially to those in the family of faith. As you ponder this nugget of wisdom for yourself, please encourage your friends and family to join us and come along tomorrow for another day of ‘Wisdom-Trek, Creating a Legacy.' “It is better to be a warrior in the Garden rather than the gardener in the war.” -Chinese Proverb In this episode of the podcast I talk about our role as providers and leaders of our families to ensure that we are prepared during unforeseen instances and give you 5 strategies to help you become more prepared. This is not the most uplifting of topics, but it is incredibly important. So many people fail to adequately prepare for things that go wrong. It is our responsibility to recognize that things will happen and that it is our responsibility to be prepared to manage them. By being prepared, you are orders of magnitude in a better position vs those who are not. Having a positive outlook and hoping for the best is a strategy, but when things go wrong, and they will, this is not a strong position to start from when navigating a crisis. Being prepared means having the ability to be adaptive and resilient to unforeseen events that may occur. There is not a day that goes by where you do not see a crisis in someone's life. Crisis is there when you turn on the news, scroll social media, and have conversations with people. Crisis events occur with our health, finances, with natural disasters, accidents, and violence. The Chinese Proverb “It is better to be a warrior in the garden rather than the gardener in the war” means to be at the ready when need be, as opposed to being caught off guard. Do not be a victim. Welcome to Day 1795 of our Wisdom-Trek, and thank you for joining me. This is Guthrie Chamberlain, Your Guide to Wisdom People Love A Smiling Face – Daily Wisdom Welcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps. We are on Day 1795 of our Trek, and it's time to explore another nugget of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote along with some wise words from Gramps for today's trek. Wisdom is the final frontier in gaining true knowledge. We are on a daily trek to create a legacy of wisdom, seek out discernment and insights, and boldly grow where few have chosen to grow before. So let's jump right in with today's nugget: Today's quote is from a Chinese Proverb, and it is: A person without a smiling face must not open a shop. People Love A Smiling Face Have you ever entered a store or shop, and the workers seemed to have just sucked on a sour lemon? Unfortunately, most of us have had those experiences. It makes you scratch your head and wonder why they are in business at all if they can't at least be thankful that someone has blessed them by allowing them to serve their needs. Those that don't have a good attitude about their work will probably not stay employed or be in business very long. The culture of any company starts with the owners or top managers within that company. If an owner of a business is not friendly and helpful to their employees, they should not expect the employees to be any different to the customers. You can tell almost immediately what the culture of a company or business is when you walk into it. That is why it is so essential that attitudes and values flow from the very top of the company. If the owner or top management does not reflect integrity and values, they should not be in that position. As imagers of our creator, God, we should always show forth His goodness in every life situation. https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Titus%202%3A6%2D8&version=NLT (Titus 2:6-8) In the same way, encourage the young men to live wisely. And you yourself must be an example to them by doing good works of every kind. Let everything you do reflect the integrity and seriousness of your teaching. Teach the truth so that your teaching can't be criticized. Then those who oppose us will be ashamed and have nothing bad to say about us. Today's Quotes: "Remember that finding God will be the funeral of all sorrows." - Sri Yukteswar Giri via Autobiography of a Yogi“Tension is who you think you should be. Relaxation is who you are.”-Chinese Proverb “St. Teresa of Avila wrote: 'All difficulties in prayer can be traced to one cause: praying as if God were absent.' This is the conviction that we bring with us from early childhood and apply to everyday life and to our lives in general. It gets stronger as we grow up, unless we are touched by the Gospel and begin the spiritual journey. This journey is a process of dismantling the monumental illusion that God is distant or absent.”-Thomas Keating, Fruits and Gifts of the Spirit"You are so near that I cannot see You. Like a fool I keep looking around." -RumiToday's Practice:Finding and knowing this Love ends your worries, ends your suffering… ends the limited and distorted concept of 'you'. And in its place, the Grace of felt-Oneness... Wisdom... Purpose.. Joy... I Am. I Love you and I'm with you, Niknikki@curlynikki.com
What is standing in the way of you starting that thing you've always wanted to do? What's the excuse you've been telling yourself? If you want it bad enough, you'll find a way. If not, you'll find an excuse. I'm sure you've heard this Chinese Proverb before: "The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step", but the problem is most people never take that first step. What's holding you back from that fitness regimen you keep procrastinating or from starting that business, that podcast or that YouTube channel? What the f**k are you waiting for? I hope this episode inspires you to take that first step and let me know what you thought of this episode and what you want to hear on the next solo adventure! Welcome to Day 1730 of our Wisdom-Trek, and thank you for joining me.This is Guthrie Chamberlain, Your Guide to WisdomA Single Step – Daily WisdomWelcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps. We are on Day 1730 of our Trek, and it's time to explore another nugget of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote along with some wise words from Gramps for today's trek. Wisdom is the final frontier in gaining true knowledge. We are on a daily trek to create a legacy of wisdom, seek out discernment and insights, and boldly grow where few have chosen to grow before. Hello, my friend; this is Gramps. So let's jump right in with today's nugget: Today's quote is from a Chinese Proverb, and it is: A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step. A Single Step This proverb is well-known but still accurate and practical. Any task or project that we need to accomplish will only be completed when we take the first step of action, and then follow that step with a sequential series of steps. Therefore, we need to get past getting ready to get ready and move forward. In most situations, it does not require that we rush through the project, but we must continue on one step at a time with perseverance. It is always best to plan our activities and know the detailed steps within the plan. That being said, our plan is worthless if we do not begin with that single first step. Once you start, the momentum will keep you moving forward. One step at a time, you will reach your journey of a thousand miles. https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Hebrews+10%3A35-36&version=NLT (Hebrews 10:35-36) So do not throw away this confident trust in the Lord. Remember the great reward it brings you! Patient endurance is what you need now, so that you will continue to do God's will. Then you will receive all that he has promised. Welcome to Day 1674 of our Wisdom-Trek, and thank you for joining me.This is Guthrie Chamberlain, Your Guide to WisdomThe Trials of Perfection – Daily WisdomWelcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps. We are on Day 1674 of our Trek, and it's time to explore another nugget of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote along with some wise words from Gramps for today's trek. If you apply the words you hear today, over time, it will help you become more healthy, wealthy, and wise as you continue your daily trek of life. So let's jump right in with today's nugget: Today's quote is from a Chinese Proverb, and it is: A diamond cannot be polished without friction, nor the man perfected without trials. The Trials Of Perfection Did you ever have a rock tumbler when you were younger? At some point in our family, I know we had at least one. It was neat to put the rough, sharp, and dirty stones into the tumbler, which also contained water and sand. It would spin the tumbler when it was turned on, and it wasn't quiet when starting. Over the following hours, the noise level of the tumbling rocks would become less and less. The hardness of the original stones determined how long the process would take. Even the hardest stone, like a diamond, will eventually be polished to a smooth and beautiful gemstone. Gems will not be produced if there is no sand and water causing friction. So it is with our lives, our hard edges will only be made smooth with the friction of trials and difficulties which we face. No one likes to go through these trials, but they are required to become the gemstones in God's kingdom. The more complex our character and personalities are, the more tests are necessary to make us pure. Instead of avoiding the trials, we must accept them and become fully immersed to learn quickly. Just like the stones in the rock tumbler, or gold in a fire, it should desire to come out as beautiful gems and pure gold. https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=1+Peter+1%3A6-7&version=NLT (1 Peter 1:6-7) So be truly glad. There is wonderful joy ahead, even though you must endure many trials for a little while. These trials will show that your faith is genuine. It is being tested as fire tests and purifies gold—though your faith is far more precious than mere gold. So when your faith remains strong through many trials, it will bring you much praise and glory and honor on the day when Jesus Christ is revealed to the whole world. As you ponder this nugget of wisdom for yourself, please encourage your friends and family to join us and then come along tomorrow for another day of ‘Wisdom-Trek, Creating a Legacy.'
