Dr. Beckett tributes two recently deceased Pittsburgh Pirates favorites from his personal botyhood fandom: relief ace Roy (ElRoy) Face and Hall of Fame second baseman Bill Mazeroski. He reflects on the 1960 Pirates as his favorite team and explains why both players deserve more hobby respect. For Face, he highlights his signature forkball, how relievers of that era entered tie games and jams, his remarkable 1959 run (including winning 18 of 19), his military service, and his role in the 1960 World Series with three saves. Beckett also discusses Face's key and scarce cards, including his 1953 Topps high-number rookie, the rarely seen 1952 Fort Worth Cats card, and the very tough 1960 ElRoy Face Motel card, and comments on Face's late induction into the Pirates Hall of Fame in 2023 and his unlikely Hall of Fame chances. For Mazeroski, he recounts where he was when he heard Mazeroski's Game 7 walk-off home run on the radio, emphasizes Mazeroski's elite defense and double-play prowess, cites Bill James's praise of his defensive impact, and notes his career home run total and playing context at Forbes Field. He closes with additional audio from Hobby Hotline discussing Mazeroski's passing, his reputation with fans and signings, comparisons within the 1960 World Series, and the argument for valuing defense and signature career moments. No more flawless. No More NT. Topps has the NBA and now the NFL, So what will they release to be the NT and Flawless? Dr. Beckett reaps his past 25 episodes,Ā covering mentoring and learning the hobby with Rich Klein, reactions to the parent of PSA acquiring the Beckett brands, end-of-year observations and his intention to keep podcasting, and interviews with Dan Bliss about West Coast card shows. Several episodes respond to Jeremy Lee's Sports Card Live, including āseven friendly rebuttals,ā discussion of monopolies, market manipulation and shill bidding, grading variability, and auction rules, plus Dr. Beckett's āHobby Spectrumā 'Hybrid' result and his goal of consolidating by subtraction. He shares personal insights on working dollar boxes for deals and mental sharpness, explores future facial recognition technology, and recaps Hobby Hotline discussions including Hall of Fame talk and an eBay AI return scam. Other topics include a racing card Hall of Fame episode with Logan Ward, definitions around knowledge and ethics, concerns about prediction markets, the challenge of selling his dad's stamp collection, opening Panini and Upper Deck boxes, and the question of player popularity vs performance in card values. He highlights a conversation with French journalist Julien Chiron, commentary on Geoff Wilson's ā12 mistakes in 2025ā episode (including FOMO and sunk cost non-fallacy), an ethical scenario involving an altered card and eye appeal, participation on Topps' 75th anniversary ā75 greatest cardsā panel, and an episode on industry leaks prompted by a Fanatics National slide leak. We're hundreds of episodes into Sleeping with Celebrities but we're just now getting a PBS voice on? I know. We're so sorry. But this will make up for it. The brilliant, engaging, and funny Simeon Lipman from Antiques Roadshow knows more about baseball cards and, actually, punk rock memorabilia than most people will ever know about anything. And his knowledge includes a whole lot of arcane data. Let him regale with tales of Jimmy Claxton and of Simeon's long quest to acquire that one Billy Ripken card. You know the one I'm talking about. Yes, baseball can be exciting, and, yes, punk rock even more so, but we promise you that the dulcet tones of Simeon Lipman (current PBS voice) and John Moe (former public radio voice) will zonk you out faster than a fastball to the head and with much less pain.Watch Antiques Roadshow online or on PBS. Mike Gioseffi and Adam Gray break down a chaotic week in the hobby, including the mind-blowing $16 million Pokémon card private sale. Is the high-end market completely detaching from reality, or is this just the new normal for "grail" assets? With the Nashville Card Show kicking off this weekend, Mike shares his strategy for the show. He breaks down why he is looking to buy bulk inventory for eBay Live and details the "blind offer" battle he is planning with Alex at the booth. Then, the focus shifts to baseball. The MLB season is around the corner, and the buy window on some top prospects has already slammed shut. Mike explains why he missed the boat on Roman Anthony but is pivoting to buying Travis Bazzana, Max Clark, and Ronald Acuña Jr. instead. Then, Adam Gray joins the show for an NBA Market deep dive. They discuss whether the Pistons and Cade Cunningham are finally a legit playoff threat or just a good story. The conversation heats up around Stephon Castle's shocking $75k sale, and the guys debate if this is sustainable. Later, they react to Gary Vee's prediction that Panini inserts like Color Blasts and Kabooms will become the "90s PMGs" once Fanatics takes over. They also tackle the Cooper Flagg's "First Card" 1/1 from Topps and rank the Top 3 players who will own the next decade of the NBA. Dr. Beckett and Rich Klein discuss Topps' ā75 Greatest Cardsā list finalized over a Zoom call with industry and hobby voices (including Nat Turner, writer Tim Kurkjian, collector Evan Longoria, historian John Thorn, Fanatics CEO Mike Mahan, and others). Josh Hall writes in criticizing the list for recognizing Barry Bonds and for placing Paul Skenes' card between legends like Jackie Robinson and Nolan Ryan in the top ten. Beckett explains why modern players must be represented, and they compare the process to Mike Payne's 1997 ā300 Greatest Baseball Cardsā book, and argues Skenes merits inclusion due to hobby relevance and sales, while noting career outcomes are uncertain. They cover how the top 10 was balloted and tabulated, Beckett's push for more Ohtani and Judge, and the importance of redemption āhitsā that won't disappoint collectors. They debate including the Aurelio Rodriguez Bat Boy error card, Rich shares an anecdote about a 2006 Topps Heritage wrong-photo card signed āthat's not me,ā and critiques design choices that make names/numbers hard to read. The conversation also touches on buybacks, the hobby's shift toward hits over rediscovered commons, and how grading/pop reports influence list perception (including his view that a Topps Griffey ārookieā shouldn't outrank the iconic 1989 Upper Deck). Beckett addresses the tension between player popularity and performance, defends Bonds as having broken rules rather than committing ācrimes against humanity,ā and says he didn't rank Bonds in his own top 10, while noting Nolan Ryan's popularity despite a less-stellar wināloss record. They praise Topps/Fanatics' marketing savvy and both credit friend and longtime Topps' Clay Luraschi as a key behind-the-scenes contributor to the broader list that was narrowed down. Jeff and Mark open the episode with early-season baseball energy (NCAA baseball starting, spring training nearing, and WBC chatter) before noting the passing of relief legend Elroy āRoyā Face and revisiting stories tied to Ralph Terry. They share a run of baseball oddities and news, including the White Sox adding bidets at a Japanese player's request while misspelling his locker name, Hideo Nomo sausage race, and former Yankees pitcher Kei Igawa's acting debut. They also discuss Puerto Rico WBC insurance issues, including Bad Bunny offering to cover premiums for Carlos Correa and Francisco Lindor, plus the Rangers' planned Nolan Ryan bloodied-jersey replica giveaway tied to the Bo Jackson line drive. The main feature is a career-focused tribute to recently deceased Tigers legend Mickey Lolich, from his childhood accident that helped turn him into a left-hander to his workhorse peak to his iconic 1968 World Series performance. In this episode of Two Strike Noise, Jeff and Mark explore the career of one of the most efficient pitchers in baseball history: Addie Joss. Known for his "corkscrew" delivery and a career ERA that remains the second-lowest of all time, Joss's life was cut short at just 31. The hosts detail the incredible 1911 Addie Joss Benefit Game, which brought together icons like Ty Cobb (in a borrowed jersey), Walter Johnson, and Cy Young for a cause that predated the official MLB All-Star Game by over two decades. Before the history lesson, the BP segment covers the recent passing of Tigers legend Mickey Lolich, a strange trivia bit about Ozzy Smith's fashion sense, and a look at Hall of Famers categorized by their home states. The episode concludes with a high-stakes round of Wax Pack Heroes, where Frank Robinson leads a 2003 Topps pack. 00:00 Intro: The Domingo Ramos Studio & "Ham Gravy" Origins 02:15 Non-Baseball Fact: Olive Oil and the Usurping of Popeye 04:30 BP Segment: Remembering Mickey Lolich (The Beer Drinker's Idol) 08:50 1987 Tops Trivia: Ozzy Smith, Best Casual Dresser? 11:15 The "Other" Ozzy: Canseco's Stint with the Cardinals 14:40 Hall of Famers by State: New York vs. California 19:20 WBC Woes: Insurance Issues and Javi Baez's Suspension 23:05 The Human Hairpin: The Dominance of Addie Joss 38:40 Wax Pack Heroes: 2003 Topps Mega Pack Battle 54:20 Wrapping Up: Mickey Lolich Deep Dive Tease Connect With Us YouTube: www.youtube.com/@twostrikenoise Twitch: https://www.twitch.tv/twostrikenoise BlueSky: @twostrikenoise.bsky.social Email: twostrikenoise@gmail.com Support a Great Cause: Don't let your common cards collect dust! The hobby is in the middle of a real transition. Licenses are moving. Logos are changing. Timelines feel unclear. And a lot of collectors feel uneasy without knowing why. This episode is not about what to buy next. It is about how to think while something big shifts around you. Panini to Topps. Fanatics stepping in. New marketing. New noise. Same collector sitting at home asking one quiet question. What does this mean for the way I collect? We talk mindset. Identity. Anxiety. Hype cycles. First year and last year traps. Why urgency feels loud right now. And how to slow down without falling behind. This episode is for collectors who want clarity, agency, and confidence while the ground feels like it is moving.Check out the awesome software that InfernoRed Technology can build for you.Get your free copy of Collecting For Keeps: Finding Meaning In A Hobby Built On HypeStart your 7 day free trial of Stacking Slabs Patreon Today[Distributed on Sunday] Sign up for the Stacking Slabs Weekly Rip Newsletter using this linkFollow Stacking Slabs: | Twitter | Instagram | Facebook | Tiktok ā Support this podcast on Patreon ā

Before parallels. Before hype cycles. Before anyone talked about value. This episode goes back to where WNBA card collecting began.Katelyn sits down with Anne Marie of Women on Topps to unpack the late 1990s and early 2000s. A period when the league and the cards were being built at the same time. No rules. No roadmap. No expectations. They walk through the first licensed sets, cards that came in cans, early autographs, die cuts, shoe relics, and redemptions. More important, they talk about how collectors showed up back then. Team focused. Set driven. Community first. This conversation is about history. It's about why this era still matters. And it's about what modern collectors can learn from a time when collecting felt closer to fandom than finance.Check out Card Ladder the official data partner of The WNBA Card PodcastFollow the WNBA Card Podcast on InstagramĀ Get your free copy of Collecting For Keeps: Finding Meaning In A Hobby Built On HypeGet exclusive content, promote your cards, and connect with other collectors who listen to the pod today by joining the Patreon: Join Stacking Slabs Podcast Patreon[Distributed on Sunday] Sign up for the Stacking Slabs Weekly Rip Newsletter using this linkFollow Stacking Slabs: | Twitter | Instagram | Facebook | TiktokFollow Katelyn: | Instagram ā Support this podcast on Patreon ā

Episode 185 of Kliq This is all about old school heat, and it starts in the most Kliq way possible: with Sean proudly nerding out over fountain pens while Kev immediately mistakes it for a vape. From there, the conversation takes a sharp left turn into classic road-story insanity when Nash tells an unbelievable Macho Man Randy Savage private jet rib that somehow still has me laughing and wincing at the same time. Then the show digs into the real world as Kev and Sean talk trade, China's surplus, and the kind of "nobody thinks this through" political decision-making that drives normal people insane. That energy carries into a longer, blunt discussion about immigration enforcement, due process, transparency, and why it feels like the rules change depending on who's in power. It's a heavy topic, but it's one of those segments where they actually talk like human beings instead of just picking a team and screaming. After that, things lighten up with listener questions and absolute Kliq staples, including Nash breaking down his ridiculously specific "clean" Waffle House order, how he signs Topps cards like it's an assembly line, and why BlueChew apparently has a fan club. If you're new here, this is the perfect example of how this show can go from aviation death spirals to protein macros to politics in under five minutes. And then it's time for wrestling, with Kev giving credit where it's due on RAW, the presentation, and why certain talent feels like a "made man" the second the machine decides to frame them that way. The centerpiece is Gunther vs AJ, which Kev calls a true psychology-based, hard-hitting old school match, including a finish that felt like a believable wrestling screwjob and the kind of heat that comes from denying fans what they want, not just "doing moves." If you miss wrestling that feels like it matters, this one's for you BlueChew-Get 10% off your first month of BlueChew Gold with code NASH at BlueChew.com Ultra-Don't sleep on @ultrapouches.
