In this episode, Lawrence and Alainta unpack the age-old belief that more money automatically means a better life. Is the “greener grass” we're chasing actually fulfillment—or just a bigger paycheck? We explore the difference between financial growth and personal satisfaction, the hidden costs of constantly chasing more, and how comparison can distort what success really looks like. Wait, what's a Financial Griot? The Financial Griot is a play on two words (Finance + Griot) that together signify closing the wealth gap while embracing our differences. Alainta Alcin, Lovely Merdelus, and Lawrence Delva-Gonzalez share their perspectives on current events that impact your personal finances and wealth mindset. In the New York Times, Bankrate, and other publications, the hosts share the stories that others don't. Stories about growth, opportunity, and even Wars. Beyond that, we tie it back to how it reflects on your finances. Specifically, we teach you how to become financially literate, incorporate actionable steps, and ultimately build generational wealth. Can you imagine being a Millionaire in 20 years or less? Yeah, it's possible. Eighty percent of millionaires are first-generation, meaning they didn't inherit wealth. We teach you how. Join a community of subscribers who welcome a fresh take on money. So there you have it, The Financial Griot, or TFG for short. The hosts amassed over $3 million in wealth in about eight years and are on track to retire early. We will gladly share the secrets if you want them, since the opportunity is abundant and a Win-Win. Have you ever been so frustrated with life that you just wanted to throw everything away and start fresh? It sounds great until you start considering all the ramifications involved. Things like: - Quitting your job- Selling the house and moving to a new location- Saying goodbye to friends and family (at least for a little while)- Dropping out of church, school, and various other civic organizations- Saying no to routine and saying yes to radical change The list could go and on but you get the idea. Starting fresh is far from an easy process. One can get nauseous just thinking about all of the ramifications and consequences. Not to say that change can't be good in our lives, but sometimes it just seems easier to keep the status quo by leaving our fantasy of a life change for another day. Angie Orth made the life-changing decision to follow through on a life-change. With her thirtieth birthday looming, Orth decided to escape her everyday life and embark on a journey of a lifetime. So, she quit her job, launched a travel blog, and booked a one-way ticket to the South Pacific and a few other exotic ports of call. Along the way, Orth found herself dodging tsunamis, earthquakes, political revolutions, and the relentless pursuit of her family trying to contact her. But most importantly, despite her global misadventures, Orth strengthened her relationship with God and found a new resolve to chart the course for the rest of her life. In her new book, “Flirting with Disaster: True Tales of Fear, Failure, and Faith”, Orth shares a few pages from living life unscripted yet still on a mission. But most importantly, she demonstrates that God's vision for our lives is far better than anything we could ever come up with. Orth joins us on the Crossmap Podcast talk about how she made a complete 180 degree turn that changed everything about her life in a positive way. Listen how living life unscripted yet still on mission led her directly into a much stronger relationship with God.

Greg and Nick are busy returning home from a jam-packed week competing in our 2024 annual team challenge "Flying by the Seat of our Points". For this coffee break episode, we've highlighted a portion of the final livestream from Kuala Lumpur where the team reflects on the highlights (and lowlights) of their individual journeys. You can find out all kinds of details about this challenge here: https://frequentmiler.com/2024-annual-challenge/
This episode is a little different because Greg and Nick are busy competing with eachother for the Flying by the Seat of our Points Challenge! If unfamiliar, every year we put together a team travel challenge designed to force us to reach challenging and entertaining goals with our points and miles, and showcase what can be done with these tools. It's a fun way to stretch the limits of points and miles and show you all what that actually looks like. For this year's annual challenge, Stephen and I have given Greg, Nick, and Tim surprise destination assignments for a travel challenge testing our team's last-minute travel booking skills. The first "domestic convergence" destination was revealed on Monday night during a live checkin on YouTube where the contestants learned of a domestic location they'd need to reach by Wednesday 6pm local time, when we had another live checkin to reveal another series of surprise destinations. By the time this challenge wraps up, we'll have had 4 live checkins.
