By focusing on the body below the neck and practicing breathing techniques, individuals can connect with their intuition and distinguish between fear and intuition. The distinction is made between God as the guiding force and the universe as the environment, emphasising the importance of seeking guidance from a higher power. Reaching a point of critical mass in financial stability where individuals feel at peace regardless of external circumstances, leading to a sense of freedom and resilience. BEST MOMENTS "The problem is people give their power to money instead of money being a tool for our life." "Money is just a form of exchange of energy” "So that's how they started to, then we start to get controlled by it and then by others because of it. And the whole point of this, this work I'm doing is helping people to get their power back and make money a tool again, instead of a controller." “It's a combination of the breathing and attention." Paul candidly shares his struggle with intrusive thoughts, highlighting the fear and shame that often accompany them. Paul explains the normalcy of intrusive thoughts, emphasising that they do not define a person's character. He explores the root causes of intrusive thoughts, linking them to unmet emotional and physical needs. By accepting intrusive thoughts, practicing mindfulness, and engaging in breathing exercises, individuals can rewire their brains to respond differently to these thoughts and reduce their impact. Paul encourages seeking professional help if intrusive thoughts lead to a strong desire to harm oneself or others, emphasising that it's important to address underlying issues with the support of a therapist. It is worth remembering the interconnectedness of mind, body, and spirit in addressing intrusive thoughts. A holistic approach involving mindset training, meditation, and lifestyle changes can help individuals set themselves free from intrusive thoughts. BEST MOMENTS "Intrusive thoughts are completely and utterly normal. You might not think that with the thoughts that might be appearing in your head, and it can be around the darkest of subjects." "Your story will determine your experience. So if you're experiencing intrusive thoughts, think about what emotional and physical needs are not being met right now." "So accept what's appearing. Breathe into it. Choose to see them as just intrusive thoughts. Maybe be grateful that the message is still appearing to help you change your course in life." Paul is joined once more by Steve Taylor, to discuss the topic of spiritual awakening. Steve shares his expertise on the practical aspects of spiritual awakening, defining it as an expansion and intensification of awareness across various aspects of life. Contact and social links below: https://mindsetchangeuk.com/useful-links Masterclass Link - https://numindwellness.com/pages/anxiety-free-masterclass-6-week-course-p-20 KEY TAKEAWAYS Awakening is not an esoteric or unattainable state; it is more common than perceived, with many individuals experiencing it without labelling it as such. Awakening is an ongoing process with no definitive end point, characterised by continual deepening and expansion. Challenges faced during awakening may include confusion, disorientation, and potential disruptions in relationships. Detachment from external attachments, such as possessions, beliefs, and ambitions, is a crucial aspect of awakening, allowing one to root themselves in their essential spiritual self. Gratitude naturally arises during awakening, leading to a sense of connection, empathy, and appreciation for life's small things. BEST MOMENTS "The darkness in the world is caused by the unawakened state. It's caused by a state of separation and inner discord. The only hope that human beings have to live in harmony is to move towards awakening." "It was just like a throb just flowing through me up. It did flow up. And then it would just, you know, I just felt super connected to everything." "I think it is common. I think a lot of people who experience it are not aware of it as spiritual awakening. It's just their normal state, but they always feel a sense of connection to others." "It just feels like it's constantly moving and the energy that's constantly moving. And it's interesting just to be present and experience that, you know, without any expectation, just seeing what happens." I was not expecting this to happen at all... Paul shares a personal and unexpected experience of having a spiritual awakening while watching a Lady Gaga video. He delves into the profound shift he felt during this awakening, describing a sense of deep peace, freedom, and interconnectedness with everything. Paul reflects on his journey towards awakening, including past moments of realisation and how this recent awakening has changed his perspective on life and coaching. Awakening is a natural experience accessible to all, not limited to specific groups or individuals. Despite the awakening experience, Paul acknowledges the challenges of staying awake and resisting the pull of the ego to return to a state of sleep. The awakening has influenced Paul's coaching approach and content creation, leading to a more intuitive and adventurous exploration of awakening and spirituality. BEST MOMENTS "The term spiritual awakening can have some negative connotations... The word spiritual means the essence of being human, your soul, your spirit being part of something much bigger than the material world." "I remember a couple of weeks before awakening, consciously inviting the waking up experience into my life... I wanted to know the truth." "I'm enjoying exploring how I can help others do the same too, but in my way... I'd like to explain it in my way." Paul interviews Ryan Bush, author of the book "Become Who You Are." Ryan shares his unique perspective on happiness and self-esteem, challenging the traditional notions of what brings true fulfilment. Drawing from practical philosophy, psychology, and personal experiences, Ryan presents a new theory that emphasises the importance of virtues and self-admiration in achieving happiness. He discusses the limitations of our current understanding of happiness and explores the concept of depression as an adaptive mechanism. Contact and social links below: https://mindsetchangeuk.com/useful-links Masterclass Link - https://numindwellness.com/pages/anxiety-free-masterclass-6-week-course-p-20 KEY TAKEAWAYS Happiness is often misunderstood and pursued through outdated thinking. Ryan offers a new perspective on happiness in his book "Become Who You Are." The key to true happiness lies in developing and exercising virtues or strengths that we admire in ourselves and others. Depression may serve a purpose and can be seen as an adaptation rather than a disorder. It can be a signal that our virtues or character traits need attention and improvement. Behavioural activation, creating a schedule and committing to it, can be a powerful tool in breaking the cycle of depression and improving well-being. BEST MOMENTS "We're bad at predicting what's going to make us happy. We're bad at achieving it." "We really have a pretty bad sort of default map in our heads about how happiness is actually attained and what constitutes the good life." "If you win the lottery and you engage in a lot of passive pleasure, you end up feeling bored and depressed and you don't really know why." "Virtues are a little bit deeper and they sort of transcend simple skills that are maybe valuable for profit-based reasons." Carlos's story shows us the importance of leveraging your gifts and passions in our careers. It's easy to get caught up in doing what everyone else is doing, but this often doesn't yield significant results. If we want exponential gains, we need to take what's working outside of our industry and bring it into ours. This is what Carlos did, and it paid off. We all have gifts, and we can grow faster when we leverage those gifts. Sometimes we ignore those gifts, like Carlos did. But when we combine our skills and passions with our careers, we can make a significant impact. If you're just starting your real estate journey, or any other career for that matter, take a moment to consider your gifts and passions. How can you combine them with your work to make a difference? For Carlos, it was using his technology skills to generate leads online. But for you, it could be something completely different. Maybe you're great at building relationships, or maybe you have a talent for writing or public speaking. Whatever your gifts are, find a way to use them in your career. Carlos's story also reminds us that success doesn't happen overnight. It took him three years to see significant results, but he never gave up. He kept pushing forward, trying new things, and leveraging his gifts to his advantage. This is what we all need to do to succeed in our careers. It's not always easy, but it's worth it in the end. If you're struggling in your career, take a step back and consider your gifts and passions. How can you leverage them to make a difference? It's easy to get caught up in doing what everyone else is doing, but this often doesn't yield significant results. Instead, take what's working outside of your industry and bring it into yours. Be patient, persistent, and never give up. WHAT CAN HELP YOU? VIA Survey of Character Strengths - Head over to Questionnaires tab and click on VIA Survey of Character Strengths. Dennis wanted to record a conversation where we talk about some things we've learned in life, now that we're old guys. I happily obliged. We hope you enjoy our discussion. Here's an in-the-park home run by my grandson, Road Rash Roy. Here's the photo of "Roy" that I refer to in today's show. Also mentioned in today's show, Mike Varney - a friend of the show and owner of some extraordinary short-term rentals inside Hot Springs Village. As much as I'd love to be completely transparent, there's just so much that would be improper about it. So I'll give you the broad brush of it. There hasn't been a physical death, but the carnage is deep and vast. It's personal. It's family. And it's been going on a long, long time. A slide. An erosion. Lots of pain. Lots of suffering. Lots of preoccupation with the loss. But no control because we can't (nor should we) control other people. I rounded the corner of closing out February 2022, realizing that sorrow and grief have preoccupied me for going on four years. Fact is, I've been grieving for many, many months, but something happened (I don't know what) and one day I decided to draw the proverbial line in the sand. "April is going to be the month I fully devote to my grief, then I'm going to emerge with a new - albeit less whole - normal." Well, life gets in the way. Even of planned grieving. Sorrow and grief are odd things. They impact us in unique ways to us. Processing emotions isn't something you can necessarily generalize. VIA Survey - mentioned in today's show - click here: https://www.viacharacter.org/surveys/takesurvey My number one character trait is forgiveness. Here's what the folks at VIA say about it.

Can you motivate? Yes or no? Do you consider this part of your role as a manager?Question 2: Why don't employees perform? Many times I hear….lack of training, tools, knowledge, lack of engagement, , unclear goals, personal issues, lack direction, no feedback …..and…they don't care, they lack purpose, they're lazy. Ugh. But if you can motivate them, and that's your job. What's the disconnect? Why would there be people who are unmotivated if we can motivate them? The reality is that people are already motivated. They may not, however, be motivated to what you want them to do. Your job is to create an environment in which others are motivated to perform at their best. Bring out their motivation, their energy. How? What are all the ways you can motivate? And do you know the difference between intrinsic and extrinsic motivators?Extrinsic motivators are from outside of you, intrinsic motivators are from within you. One is about what I receive after I complete a task, which may be expected or unexpected. The other is about the experience while I'm completing the task. Which is more common? = ExtrinsicMore sustainable? = IntrinsicMore difficult to execute? IntrinsicWhile we can't change who people are, what we can do is help them to discover their intrinsic motivators. And also connect or align intrinsic motivators with things that maybe we enjoy less. Here are 4 ways to begin to understand intrinsic motivation:Take a strengths assessment: See, Discover Your Strengths, by Don Clifton (from Gallup)Explore a work based personality assessments: DiSC assessments have a version for managers, individual contributors and leaders which have a behavioral focus and are excellent tools about our energy (and what drains us!)Consider the Individual Dimensions Inventory: this is an assessment tool from Management Research Group, and focuses on the emotional satisfaction we get from work related dimensions (I am also certified on this tool and can also get you more information if you are interested)Take a values inventory: learn your core beliefs; are they aligned with what you are doing? The Values Institute on Character offers a freebie: The VIA Survey: 31 Ways to Recognize Your Strengths and Act on Them (positivepsychology.com)Planting some leadership seeds:Understand various types of motivators; get to know your employees and their preferences for both extrinsic and intrinsic motivators.Use extrinsic strategically: be thoughtful, reinforce specifics, point out what you want more of from others around you.Do a wellness check up on you: choose one of the 4 ways to identify motivators, discover something new about yourself—where are you aligned in being intrinsically motivated, where are you not in alignment?Take action, one small step to strengthen the motivational environment for you, for your team.Learn about goal setting AND the link to motivation....AND strengthen your leadership! https://www.intentionaleaderscourses.com/confident-leader
SUMMARY To be happy together, whether you’re starting a new relationship, weathering difficult times, or jump-starting a long-term marriage, Suzie and James Pawelski can help. Their book, Happy Together: Using the Science of Positive Psychology to Build Love That Lasts, isn’t the typical approach to romance. But this husband-and-wife research team has found how to ignite (or reignite) passion. KEY POINTS Together, the Pawelskis identify four key areas crucial to building and sustaining love over the long run: Harmonious passion: remembering who we are as individuals and seeking out new adventures together that both enjoy Positive emotions: feelings of joy, gratitude, and hope to help motivate couples to invest in each other’s well-being and engage in mutual care Mindful savoring: the importance of actively and consciously valuing another and expressing this appreciation to nurture and enhance the relationship Character strengths: why we need to define, find, and cultivate our individual potential and support our partner’s growth simultaneously Happy Together is the first book to apply principles of positive psychology to create successful, satisfying bonds that last. It’s a roadmap for rewarding, long-lasting romance. Refreshingly upbeat, the Pawelskis encourage couples to focus on their strengths. In other words, rather than prescribe cures for failing relationships, they suggest exercises as simple as talking about each other’s strengths to build positive emotions. From there, couples can further leverage strengths by planning dates that bring out the best in both partners. Another healthy exercise to lengthen and strengthen sweet moments of emotional closeness is slowing down to share your love story—the highs and the lows. Recounting how you’ve both conquered challenges and relished the good times can greatly increase your enjoyment of those experiences. Of course, falling in love and even being in love doesn’t mean you will magically have your dream relationship. Rather, relationships improve over time when partners practice key skills and cultivate loving habits. The Pawelskis encourage us to practice these skills in our own “relationship gym” because all relationships need work. Please do so. You will notice we don't mention covid-19 – that's because it was recorded a while back – but every sentence, every learning is applicable to the situation we find ourselves today. You will want to take note. I tried, but basically the entire interview is a treat. I would recommend going to the episode show notes and downloading the transcript: https://www.renatabernarde.com/23transcript Janet is a consultant and coach who helps other coaches like me, leaders and organisations adapt and grow through disruption. Her expertise is in helping society understand what it means to BE innovative and adaptive to change. You see, you may aim for innovation all you want, but you won't get it if you don't start acting differently, structuring your business differently, and being nimble to adopt and adapt to change fast as opportunities and threats come along. It's been hard to keep up and adapt to the constant changes to our lives since the outbreak of the covid-19 went global. Our world has changed, our days have changed, the way we shop, eat, interact with our loved ones has changed. Some of us have lost our jobs. Business owners have had to shut shop. On the other hand, hospital staff, doctors, nurses, supermarkets, call centres, online retailers, digital service providers have had an exponential demand for their services and products. All of these changes have disrupted the structures in our lives, economies, societies and international borders. This interview with Janet Sernack is therefore perfect for this point in time. SUMMARY To be happy together, whether you're starting a new relationship, weathering difficult times, or jump-starting a long-term marriage, Suzie and James Pawelski can help. Their book, Happy Together: Using the Science of Positive Psychology to Build Love That Lasts, isn't the typical approach to romance. But this husband-and-wife research team has found how to ignite (or reignite) passion. KEY POINTS Together, the Pawelskis have identified four key areas crucial to building and sustaining love over the long run: Harmonious passion: remembering who we are as individuals and seeking out new adventures together that both enjoy Positive emotions: feelings of joy, gratitude, and hope to help motivate couples to invest in each other's well-being and engage in mutual care Mindful savoring: the importance of actively and consciously valuing another and expressing this appreciation to nurture and enhance the relationship Character strengths: why we need to define, find, and cultivate our individual potential and support our partner's growth simultaneously Happy Together is the first book to apply principles of positive psychology to create successful, satisfying bonds that last. It's a roadmap for rewarding, long-lasting romance. Refreshingly upbeat, the Pawelskis encourage couples to focus on their strengths. In other words, rather than prescribe cures for failing relationships, they suggest exercises as simple as talking about each other's strengths to build positive emotions. From there, couples can further leverage strengths by planning dates that bring out the best in both partners. Another healthy exercise to lengthen and strengthen sweet moments of emotional closeness is slowing down to share your love story—the highs and the lows. Recounting how you've both conquered challenges and relished the good times can greatly increase your enjoyment of those experiences. Of course, falling in love and even being in love doesn't mean you will magically have your dream relationship. Rather, relationships improve over time when partners practice key skills and cultivate loving habits. The Pawelskis encourage us to practice these skills in our own “relationship gym” because all relationships need work. Today, Michelle is flourishing and providing guidance to others via her books, coaching, training, and through her annual Strengths Challenge. In 2016, the strengths challenge is September 6 – 12, and we hope you'll join the next one! If you are interested in adding new tools to your Strengths toolbox, then this is the episode for you! Listen for several tips and tools to improve your work and home life, and perhaps learn a Dr. Seuss rhyme along the way. Michelle and Lisa’s Strengths Michelle’s VIA Character Strengths: Creativity, Hope, Love, Love of Learning, Perseverance Lisa’s VIA Character Strengths: Creativity, Humor, Curiosity, Hope, and Zest Michelle’s StrengthsFinder Talents: Strategic, Learner, Maximizer, Achiever, Activator Lisa’s StrengthsFinder Talents: Strategic, Maximizer, Positivity, Individualization, Woo What You’ll Learn In This Episode Michelle was in an executive role. She had achieved her career goals, and everything looked great on paper. However, she had a nagging, unhappy feeling about work, and she found herself dragging her feet into work each day. One day, she was watching a popular tv show, and saw a segment on “positive psychology.” This segment would forever change her life. Michelle found one of Martin Seligman’s books. He’s the guru in the field of positive psychology. As she read (and later studied directly with Seligman), she realized that our goal should be to bring out the best in ourselves and others more consistently. The more we use our strengths in our jobs, the more engaging, energizing, and fulfilling our lives can be. Michelle started with the free VIA Survey, and found that her #1 trait was Curiosity. That led to her Ah Ha moment – the reason she was unhappy was because she wasn’t learning anything at work any more. In an effort to fulfill he need to learn new things, she implemented this plan: Read one new thing about positive psychology each day for 10 minutes. Michelle found that this exercise had a positive ripple effect throughout the rest of her day. It shifted how she felt at work. Each Friday, she emailed her boss 3 things she had learned through her reading that week. Later, she found out that he had been forwarding her emails to other people. At her 9 month review, he noted that the company hadn’t been using her strengths as effectively as they could be, and asked if she’d like to teach these ideas to others. This gave her a chance to put her strengths to work every day. The moments that people were able to actually see her strengths led to new career opportunities. In essence, Michelle ended up crafting her new career path. VIA is a a system that “diagnoses" the best in people. It’s a list of 24 character strengths that are consistent across cultures and history. The goal is to focus on the top 5 character strengths that light you up the most. Because we are affected by situations around us, Michelle recommends taking the survey every year. If there is a character strength you want to move up the list, there are methods to follow (but Michelle notes that it should only be because it’s something you value, not because society desires it). Here are 4 steps: Determine which strength you want to build Harness the natural part in your brain to create new habits (good or bad). Make sure you have some cue to work on that strength each day. For example, putting a book on your keyboard for the next day, or listen to a recording about this strength each day on your way to work. Try and use that strength when you are in a state of flow (when you can focus) Reward yourself each time you work on this new habit; it needs to be something you really want. For example, have a cup of coffee after your 10 minutes are up. Check out the resources below, because Michelle offers a free e-book on her website to help you be in your zone of greatness. It’s an excellent aide to improving yourself and creating new habits. Tool: Appreciative inquiry It’s a strengths-based approach to change, where you build on things that are working well. There is a positive effect on the company and the team. Spend 80% of your time on your strengths, and 20% on our weaknesses. You want commitment not compliance. Be realistic about how to get the best return on investment.
