In this podcast episode I spoke with Dana Helmink, the Senior Director of Audiological Development for Widex, about the importance of hearing health and advancements in hearing aid technology. Dana shares her extensive background in audiology and her passion for improving hearing solutions, emphasizing that hearing loss is no longer an issue only for the elderly but is increasingly being recognized and addressed in younger populations. We discussed the importance of early detection and intervention, as well as the impact of untreated hearing loss on cognitive decline, referencing significant studies like the Achieve Study from Johns Hopkins which highlights the potential benefits of using hearing aids to stop or slow down cognitive decline.   Dana introduces the latest product from Widex, the Smart-Ric, which features innovative design improvements aimed at enhancing sound quality, comfort, and user convenience. The conversation underscores the importance of seeking professional hearing assessments and considering hearing aids as a proactive measure for maintaining quality of life and cognitive health. Dana and I are big supporters for increased awareness and accessibility of hearing health care and encourage listeners to contact their doctors to get their hearing checked. _____________________ This special offer is still available. Dr. Jodi Sasaki-Miraglia is an experienced audiologist who has experience in medical devices, employee training, and general sales. She is currently serving in two roles: the Director of Professional Education Manager at Widex. Dr. Sasaki-Miraglia previously worked as an audiologist at the Mayo Clinic and as the Senior Technical Trainer at Phonak. She received her doctorate in audiology from Salus University. In this episode… We were all taught from a young age to brush our teeth as a basic part of hygiene. There are clear benefits to preserving your teeth and consequences when they are neglected. However, this same mentality is rarely shown towards our own hearing. It's only once we've experienced hearing loss that we attempt to reverse the damage and by then it's too late. So how do you help people prevent hearing loss? Dr. Jodi Sasaki-Miraglia has worked in audiology, hearing education, and healthcare. She sees the issue as similar to other hygiene and deserving of the same attention. This includes regular check-ups, protective measures, and increased awareness. She has joined the movement to help others preserve their hearing and explains the best ways to do so. Dr. Mark Syms invites Dr. Jodi Sasaki-Miraglia, the Director of Professional Education for Widex, on this episode of the ListenUp! Podcast to talk about what hearing hygiene looks like in practice. They discuss the current issues in hearing healthcare and the campaigns that have been started to counteract them. They also touch on Dr. Sasaki-Miraglia's career and her perspective on hearing health.

In this episode Christopher Medina goes through the steps on what the process is in terms of getting your hearing aid fitted once you come into a hearing aid dispenser such as Virtue Hearing.    What will you expect when you get your hearing aids fitted? Christopher will walk you through the fitting by fitting himself with a receiver in the ear canal using the Widex Evoke hearing aid device.   Step 1: Conduct a hearing test. Step 2: Those results will go into our software and into the hearing aid to adjust those levels into your custom hearing aid. Step 3: We add the hearing aid onto the patient. Step 4: We connect the hearing aid to the computer and adjust the settings based on the patients hearing levels and comfortability. This is called a "First Fit". The software will then ask a series of questions based on your lifestyle and experience with hearing aids. Step 5: Run the feedback manager. This is meant to reduce any feedback you are experiencing. Step 6: We keep adjusting until the patient lets us know it is now comfortable for them. Step 7: We schedule a follow up appointment to double check all is going well with your hearing aid.   If you are interested in doing a fitting and trying a new hearing aid for 14 days reach out to our office:  (323) 530-0223 CMedina@VirtueHearing.com https://virtuehearing.com/
