Fr. Dom's Homs - Running the Race to Heaven: All Souls Day and the Battle for Eternity

In this All Souls Day homily, Fr. Dom calls us to face the the reality of the last 4 things: death, judgment, heaven, and hell. Too many men live as if eternity doesn't matter. But this episode will shake you awake. Heaven is your goal. Purgatory is real. Hell is forever. It's time to get serious about your soul.Fr. Dom breaks open the connection between All Hallows Eve, All Saints Day, and All Souls Day; a sacred triptych that reveals the Church's battle plan for salvation. These three days aren't separate celebrations but one unified call to holiness. On All Hallows Eve, we prepare for the saints. On All Saints Day, we honor our heavenly family. And on All Souls Day, we fight for the souls still being purified in purgatory. The souls in purgatory need our prayers. The saints in heaven are cheering us on. And we, the Church Militant, must run the race like men who refuse to quit. Drawing from Scripture, the sacraments, and personal experience, Fr. Dom challenges men to live with eternity in mind and to aim for heaven, not purgatory. He also lays out the Church's roadmap to sanctity: follow the commandments, receive the sacraments, live in a state of grace, and intercede daily for the holy souls in purgatory. This episode will leave you convicted, renewed, and ready to fight for your own salvation—and for the souls still waiting to see God face to face.Challenge for Men: This week, earn a plenary indulgence for the souls in purgatory. Go to confession, receive the Eucharist, visit a cemetery, pray for the intentions of the Holy Father, and intercede for the faithful departed. Souls are waiting for your prayers.Key Takeaway: Live every day as if it were your last. Follow the commandments, frequent the sacraments, and fight for heaven like your eternity depends on it—because it does.Powerful Quotes:“A saint is a sinner that never gives up.”“The saints are on the sidelines saying, you can do this. I did it. Model my way of life.”“If we don't pray for the souls in purgatory, we commit an injustice.”This episode will not entertain you—it will prepare you for eternity. Press play, and take up your spiritual armor. The saints are watching. The souls are waiting. The race is on.Send us a text Support the showPlease prayerfully consider supporting the podcast on our Buy Me A Coffee page. to help grow the show to reach as many men as possible! Fr. Chris reminds us that today — the Commemoration of All the Faithful Departed — is one of the most important days of the Church year. Though it's not a solemnity or feast, its spiritual weight is immense. Following the glory of All Saints Day, we now turn to the souls who still await their full union with God — the holy souls in Purgatory. Together, these three days — All Hallows Eve, All Saints, and All Souls — form what the Church calls Allhallowtide, or the “Triduum of Death.” It is not dark, but deeply merciful, because it reveals God's justice and His love.Too often, people misunderstand Purgatory. It is not a second chance, nor punishment, nor forgiveness of sins — that happens in the confessional. Rather, it is the merciful purification of souls who died in grace but still need to be cleansed of attachment and the lingering effects of sin. As Fr. Chris teaches, “Christ paid the price for our redemption, but He did not remove the consequences.” A loving Father forgives, but still allows us to repair what was damaged. That is justice in love. The Church calls us — the Church Militant — to help the Church Suffering through prayer, fasting, indulgences, and sacrifices. The poor souls cannot help themselves; even the saints in Heaven cannot directly shorten their time. But you can. Offer Masses, rosaries, and daily sufferings for them. Each small act of love can release a soul into Heaven. “Love covers a multitude of sins” (1 Pt 4:8).As Fr. Chris beautifully says, “Perhaps some of those in Purgatory are there because of us.” Today, we make reparation — not only for our sins, but for those we may have influenced. Pray for your loved ones, forgive those who've hurt you, and offer every moment as a work of mercy. The greatest weapon against Purgatory is humility — to forgive, to love, and to trust in God's mercy.Learn more in Fr. Chris's talk on Purgatory this Saturday at DivineMercyPlus.org or on the free, ad-free Divine Mercy Plus app. Visit the link in our bio to watch, pray, and intercede for the holy souls.#frchrisalar #marian #marians #marianfathers #marianhelpers #divinemercy #thedivinemercy #catholic #catholicism #romancatholic #romancatholicism #allsoulsday #purgatory #prayersforthedead #allsouls #soulsinpurgatory #catholictiktok #heaven #mercy #faith #prayer ★ Support this podcast ★

Halloween is an odd event—very odd, in a way, because in its origins it was not evil; it was actually good. A number of you probably know that Halloween is All Hallows Even; in other words, All Hallows Eve—the evening before All Hallows. And All Hallows is All Saints day. And, originally, All Saints Day (November 1st) was the day when all the saints were honored. In other words, it's a time that the Church had set aside to honor those people who had lived exemplary lives, who had blessed others by their lives, and were considered saints by the Church at that time.October 31st, though, among non-Christian Celtic people, was a different matter altogether. It was the festival of Samhain. What you may not know is the fact it was also New Year's Eve in Celtic and Anglo-Saxon England at that time. It was actually the end of the old year and the beginning of the new. It took place in the autumn, as a matter of fact. It was an occasion for fire festivals, they lit huge bonfires on top of hills to frighten off the evil spirits, and also it was a time when laws and land tenures were renewed. It harkens back, in a way, to the Old Testament. You'll recall where, in the year of release, all the captives were released. People who have been enslaved because of having been a thief and caught and sold into slavery were turned loose, in the seventh year. That was always in the autumn, not in the spring. In that Jubilee year, all the land again went back to its original family owner—the one who received it by lot. Here they had, in the autumn, a time when all the laws and land tenures were renewed. In the Celtic religions, the dead were supposed to visit their homes on this night. As a consequence, you get the sinister aspects of the festival. And, of course, you had the Celtic Church right alongside of the Roman Church; and the gradual melding that took place in these things over time created something along the lines of Halloween. And though it really became in later times a secular holiday, at the same time it has also retained a lot of those sinister overtones.Halloween was thought to be the most favorable time for divinations, for marriage, for health, for death, and for luck. And it was the only day when the help of the Devil was invoked in such matters. I think that is fascinating. For people who call themselves Christians—who are believers in Christ, people who try to serve God—you can almost see how it would be tempting, in certain circumstances (and I want to talk about that a little later), to get some guidance from that side of the spirit world.Halloween is a night of great evil. But really, it's a night of great evil only because the Devil is invoked in some of the customs and some of the practices. If it were nothing but a harvest festival, it probably wouldn't amount to much. The question is: Is there really a Devil, and are there demons in a spirit world that come out on Halloween or at other times? I recently received a letter from a long-time correspondent, and he had what I think is easily the most comprehensive set of questions about the spirit world and the paranormal that I have ever received in my life. I mean, to answer it would require me to write a book, Everything You Always Wanted to Know About the Spirit World But Were Afraid To Ask. And he gave me a really good list. He asked me about spirit sightings, dreams that come true, UFOs, abductions, strange lights, hauntings, healings, psychics, miracles that seem to have nothing to do with God and yet are miracles, and a whole long list. And he asked that, somewhere along the line, I would do a sermon or a tape or something on the subject. And so you owe this sermon today to my friend who wrote to me about this.

Most people think of October 31st as Halloween—but it’s also Reformation Day, a cornerstone of Christian history that forever changed how believers understand salvation. Rooted in Romans 5:1–2, this devotional reminds us that faith—not works—justifies us before God. Martin Luther’s courage to challenge corruption in the church reignited the truth of salvation by grace alone through faith alone, and his bold stand still calls us to live out the Gospel with conviction today. Highlights Reformation Day commemorates October 31, 1517, when Martin Luther nailed his 95 Theses to the Wittenberg church door. Luther’s actions reclaimed the biblical truth that salvation comes by grace through faith, not by works or wealth. His translation of the Bible into German gave ordinary people access to God’s Word for the first time. Today, over 700 languages have Scripture translations—a legacy of the Reformation’s impact. Believers are called to guard against modern distortions of the Gospel, like prosperity or works-based teachings. Living out Reformation truths means boldly proclaiming salvation through Christ alone and standing firm in sound doctrine. Join the Conversation How can you live out the truths of the Reformation in your daily faith walk? Share your reflections and gratitude for the freedom we have in Christ. What does the Bible say about Halloween? Is the holiday just harmless fun? Why do Christians celebrate it?According to the National Retail Federation, seven in ten Americans (who live in a country that still marginally believes in the Bible) now celebrate Halloween. Total spending on the holiday is in the billions of dollars. Foods that are often associated with it include Bonfire toffee (Great Britain), candy and toffee apples (Great Britain, Ireland), caramel apples and candy corn, candy shaped like skulls, bats, and so on, as well as pumpkins (a Halloween tradition).Everyone knows the celebration of Halloween, All Hallowed's Ev'n, involves witches, warlocks, jack-o-lanterns, and an odd little phrase, “trick or treat.” They feel it's innocent, and all about pretending as they teach their little ones to dress up and join in the fun.  Is our Creator fond of us doing this, or are we practicing something originating in darkness that is absolutely evil in His eyes?  The word “Halloween” is a hybridization of the phrase “All Hallow's Eve,” or All Hallowed's Ev'n.  The Catholic Circus had made November 1st "All Saints' Day" in order to re-invent the pagans' festival of death. The night before became known as All Halloweds' Evening." “Hallowed” means “Holy,” and is a word derived from “halo,” a nimbus, hoop, or glowing emanation around the head of a deity such as Krishna (India).  Buddha is often depicted with a hoop or glowing orb around his head, as is “Jupiter” of the Romans, and Ceruiden of the Druids.  This practice of relating a round glow to the heads of deities or “enlightened ones” was adopted by Catholicism from the Romans, stemming from even more ancient Pagans.  The statue of Jupiter has a halo, and was re-named Peter.  The Catholics adopted the halo from Paganism to indicate that a person was a saint, so their images of dead “saints” could be properly venerated.  The idea of being “haloed” meant the person was “holy,” and this idea is conveyed in the term “hallowed”, pertaining to veneration / worship, or "sacred."  Whatever Yahweh declares set-apart (qodesh) is set-apart; what man declares set-apart, unsupported by the Words of Yahweh, is an abomination to Him. Autumnal Equinox - 13 weeksa. September 21Mabon - one of the Illuminati's Human Sacrifice Nights  b. September 21 -22 - Autumnal EquinoxFrom this date through Halloween, occultists believe the veil separating the earthly dimension from the demonic realm gets progressively thinner, with the thinnest night being October 31; this thinning of the separating veil makes it easier for the demonic realm to enter the earthly dimension. Thus, on Halloween, evil spirits, ghosts, witches, hobgoblins, black cats, fairies, and demons of all sorts were believed to be running amok across the land. They had to be back in their spiritual dimension before midnight, Halloween, for the separating veil would then get thicker. c. October 31 - SamhainAlso known as Halloween, or All Hallows Eve as designated by the Catholic Church. This date is the Illuminati's highest day of human sacrificeNorth of Georgetown DE, we have a 102-acre pagan witch camp called Seelie Court. One of these covens is called Coven of the Rowan Star, listen to what they state, “As the year wanes, the Veils between the Worlds become thin. It is a time for introspection and self-evaluation. It is a time to reconnect with that which has gone before us, to our Ancestors. It is the time of Samhain, the Witches New Year, when the gates between the Dead and the Living are open wide, and the voices of the past speak to us. We prepare ourselves to face the end of the Harvests of the Fall and enter once more into the Winter of death and repose.Have any questions? Feel free to email me, keitner2024@outlook.com

Love to hear from you; “Send us a Text Message”Candy might fuel the night, but what if Halloween could fuel a child's hope? We sat down with bestselling author Anthony DeStefano to reframe the season through "All Hallows Eve"—the vigil of All Saints Day—and rediscover why praying for the dead, telling honest stories, and bathing kids' imaginations in beauty can turn a “spooky” evening into a path toward joy. Anthony traces the roots of his clear, evocative style back to Pulitzer Prize winner Frank McCourt, then shows how that simplicity serves big ideas: purgatory as final cleansing, mercy that's stronger than sin, and stories that thrill without glamorizing evil.If you've ever wondered how to explain purgatory to a child, how to hold justice and mercy together, or how to reclaim Halloween without losing the fun, this conversation offers a practical, hopeful path. Come for the story; stay for the formation. And if it moves you, share the episode with a friend, subscribe for more thoughtful conversations, and leave a review—your feedback helps more families find a better way to celebrate All Hallows Eve.Here's the link to All Hallows' Eve! Visit Anthony's Website for all his books and moreHere are the links to Jack's Substack and  X https://x.com/JP2RenewalEmail us: info@ jp2renew.org or vist our website: jp2renew.orgSupport the show
