Rob Dyson is a New York based businessman and retired professional racing driver with a long association with Watkins Glen International and the International Motor Racing Research Center. Following completion of his licensing school at Watkins Glen in 1974, Dyson began competing in amateur SCCA competition. In 1981 he won the Sports Car Club of America's GT2 national championship. Dyson began racing professionally in IMSA GTO and the SCCA Trans-Am Series in 1982. The following year, to support his professional racing efforts, Dyson founded the Dyson Racing Team, which over the next few years grew to be one of America's premier sports car racing teams. From it base in Poughkeepsie, over the course of nearly four decades the team won 19 championships, 72 race victories, started 72 times from the pole and achieved 224 podium finishes. Among the team's notable accomplishments is a pair of overall victories in America's premier endurance race, the Rolex 24, at Daytona International Speedway. The team fielded cars during the heyday of the IMSA Camel GT, winning its first time out with a Porsche 962 at Lime Rock Park. Under Dyson's leadership the team went on to successfully field entries in Indy car, the World Sports Car Championship, the United States Road Racing Championship, the American Le Mans Series (where the team scored two championships), the Rolex Sports Car Series, and the Pirelli World Challenge, where the team scored Bentley's first-ever North American race victory. During his 21 seasons as a professional racing driver Dyson drove in 92 races, scoring four overall race wins (including the 1997 Rolex 24 at Daytona) and a total of 18 podium finishes. Dyson continued to compete episodically in professional racing through 2007 and today remains active driving his collection of vintage Indy cars in a variety of demonstration events. Dyson's personal historic Indy car collection ranges from a 1913 Isotta Fraschini tipo IM  to Johnny Rutherford's 1978 Budweiser McLaren M24B, and includes the 1961 Kimberly Cooper Climax, the first successful rear-engine car to compete in the 500. Named chairman of the board of directors of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Museum in 2021 following a decade as a member of the board, Dyson is guiding the institution through its $89 million transformational renovation as it charts its future path as the repository of the history and related artifacts of America's oldest active and most storied racing facility. In 2011 Dyson donated to the IMRRC the historic archives of National Speed Sport News, America's premier motorsports news publication since the late 1930s. Dyson is the chairman and chief executive officer of Dyson-Kissner-Moran Corporation, a privately-owned international holding company. Neil Smith, like many kids, got his love of motorsport from his father. His passion for the sport was fueled by weekends spectating at English race tracks and watching the Formula 1 on the TV. But it was sports car racing that really caught his imagination, initially with Group C and later, after a move to the USA, with IMSA. Trips to the Le Mans 24 Hours added to the experience, and in the 2000s his hobby of writing a blog about racing turned into actual reporting on the American Le Mans Series and Grand Am for the predecessor of SportsCar365.com. After building a career in the tech industry, Neil returned to writing in 2018, beginning work on his debut book titled On The Prowl: The Definitive History of the Walkinshaw Jaguar Sports Car Team uncovering the fascinating stories, anecdotes, and intrigue from those who were there. His book is published by our friends at David Bull Publishing.

Hello again Racing Ears, This is a special episode where I was fortunate to be able to have a chat with Rob Dyson and Rick Knoop at the same time.  Rob and Rick were both very gracious to spend time with me chatting about sports car racing / professional road racing in all of its splendor and lore that was rekindled during this glorious phone call during Christmas Break 2023.    Rob Dyson is a professional race car driver and team principal at Dyson Racing and has been involved in the sport for over 45 years.  I first observed Rob Dyson and Price Cobb driving the #16 Porsche 962 at Laguna Seca in the 1985 Nissan Monterey Triple Crown weekend which was a part of the IMSA Camel GT series, the same race where I first observed Rick Knoop driving the Jim Busby Racing #67 BF Goodrich Special Porsche 962.   In 2001, I became reaquainted with sports car racing again following nearby events in the American Le Mans Series at Sears Point and Laguna Seca.  In 2002, Team Dyson brought out a new to them Lola MG that was in the LMP 675 class to Laguna Seca and subsequently had their first runs with the car after acquiring it after Petit Le Mans that year.   One of the greatest triumphs in motorsports that I have witnessed occurred in 2003 at Sears Point were Dyson Racing in their Lola MG LMP 675 #16 racing car driven by James Weaver and Butch Leitzinger beat the ever dominant Team Joest Audi R8 LMP 900 for the outright win at the 2003 Grand Prix of Sonoma.  This victory has stood out in my memory for many years.    I want to sincerely express my thanks to both Rick Knoop and Rob Dyson and Dyson Racing for allowing this call to happen.   Thank you so much for listening to The Racing Ear Podcast!!Porsche 935 Number 70 owned by Charles Nearburg warming up in the paddock before a session at the Porsche Rennsport Reunion 7 at Laguna Seca Raceway.  Footage of The Corkscrew at Laguna Seca during the 2015 Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion.  Support the showhttps://www.fiverr.com/s/paAkwEPorsche 935 Number 70 owned by Charles Nearburg warming up in the paddock before a session at the Porsche Rennsport Reunion 7 at Laguna Seca Raceway.

Based out of Sonoma, California, Flying Lizard Motorsports is one of the most iconic sports car teams in motorsports, having celebrated ten driver and team championships, as well as competed internationally at the 24 Hours of Le Mans eight times. The team currently races in the Fanatec GT World Challenge America powered by AWS, GT America powered by AWS, Pirelli GT4 America, Lamborghini Super Trofeo North America, and Porsche Sprint Challenge. The Lizards burst on the American Le Mans Series scene in 2004, becoming a Porsche factory-supported team in 2007, racing in the GT class. In 2013, the team moved to the GTC class, still competing in legendary events such as the 12 Hours of Sebring and 24 Hours of Daytona. After ten years of ownership, founder Seth Neiman sold the team to longtime Crew Chief Tommy Sadler, Chief Strategist Thomas Blam, and former Lizard driver Darren Law, who turned the team into a customer racing program. In 2014, the team expanded its program to include running two Audi R8 LMS in the TUDOR Championship, and in 2015, again expanded the program to include two Porsches in Porsche Club racing, and solidified a partnership to facilitate the running of the K-PAX Racing team in the Pirelli World Challenge series. Flying Lizard closed out the season with a dominating win at the 25 Hours of Thunderhill with Toyo Tires. Flying Lizard has also competed in the 24 Heures du Mans from 2005 through 2012, finishing third in 2005, fourth in 2006, sixth in 2008, sixth in 2011, and fourth in 2012. To date, the team continues to run in professional sportscar racing, holding 10 championships, 108 wins, 214 podiums, and 340 top-five finishes. The Sonoma-based team operates four shops out of Sonoma Raceway, running machinery from some of the world's best manufacturers. Flying Lizard Motorsports has proven to be a championship contender no matter the race series or race car.

I had the great pleasure of chatting with Bob and Becky Pengraph for Episode 9 of The Racing Ear Podcast.  At the time of this interview the Classic Sports Racing Group first event of the year, the David Love Vintage Races, was 2 weeks out to be held at Sonoma Raceway April 9-11 2021.  I wanted to chat with Bob and Becky about how and why they do what they do for this vintage racing organization.  Bob and Becky live in Canby Oregon and are frequent visitors to Portland International Raceway in Portland Oregon and at Pacific Raceway in Kent Washington.   Becky Pengraph has been involved with the Sports Car Club of America for over 20 years.  I first met her down in the hot pits at Sonoma Raceway during the CSRG events as she was directing race traffic, making sure that racing cars and drivers are in safety compliance, saying hello and giving hugs, and sharing her homemade beaded necklaces.  Bob Pengraph is the Media Chief for the CSRG and has bestowed media credentials to me in the past for me to cover previous CSRG events starting back in 2016 for my website TheRacingEar.com on YouTube.  He has extensive experience being a racing photographer for the ChampCar World Series and the American Le Mans Series and is a consistent contributor to Victory Lane Magazine.  Bob and Becky are amazing and dedicated racing friends and colleagues.  Thank you for listening to The Racing Ear Podcast!#beckypengraph #bobpengraph        #scca#lateralgimages@smugmug.com#victorylanemagazine

Vuonna 1994 nuori lupaus siirtyi huipputalli Benettonille.
