It's the bridge between your 3 lower chakras, root, sacral and solar plexus, and your 3 upper chakras, throat, third eye, and crown. This chakra directly affects the heart, chest, lungs, arms and hands. It's associated with the air element and is home to unconditional love, empathy, trust, forgiveness, compassion and joy. A blocked heart chakra can leave you feeling unworthy, easily jealous, overly defensive, feeling like a victim, and having a difficult time trusting others and yourself. This meditation practice will use a variety of different Pranayama techniques to connect with the wind element and utilise the delivery of Prana, (life force to heal, inspire and transform our physical, energetic and mental forms) to find your way back home at your true centre, your heart. The element of Wind is Vayu in Sanskrit. The movement of Wind that carries the sacred symbolism of communication, breath and life across that planet and within us. Our life force, Prana, uses the breath as a vehicle, as we breath in and out. Preforming Pranayama in meditation practice is managing Prana, the vital life force that animates all levels of being. Where your attention goes, Prana will follow. Focusing the mind to cultivate a clear path for Prana to flow to guide the mind back home within it's body becomes the goal of meditation. Prana enables the body to move, heal, regenerate as well as enables the mind to think. Prana is said to be the intelligence that coordinates our senses, help digest information and release that which doesn't serve us any longer. We inhale oxygen and then exhale carbon dioxide, this is call respiration. Yogis experienced this as the Prana Vayus, direction of winds that move life force within the body.Pran Vayu – receiving PranaSamana Vayu – digesting, absorbing & assimilating that PranaVyana Vayu – distributing & circulating that PranaApana Vayu – eliminating the byproduct, waste Udana Vayu – the positive effects of the other Vayus, uplifts, inspires & ascends in the form of epiphanies, awakening and enlightenmentOpen these channels of communication so your Life Force, Prana, can deliver essential information to maintain the homeostasis of the Physical, Energetic and Mental Bodies. Your meditation Asana is a great tool to improve the quality of your breath and effectively move Prana, tapping into the Vayus enhancing and directing the flow of winds throughout your embodied practice. As a result, you should feel invigorated, energised yet access to an expanded inner awareness that opens you to your higher state of consciousness, specifically within your own centre…your heart. The abode of the wind element is said to be in the, Anahata Chakra, the heart centre. This is where it is said that the winds carry our curiosity, wonderment, our joy to experience life as well as love, delight, kindness, tenderness, compassion, gratitude, contentment and empathy. When the winds are like a Rajasic tornado or a storm, we feel jealousy, possessiveness, obsessive, co-dependency, very critical, judgemental, resentful and a lack of empathy. When the winds are stagnant we feel that lifeless, motionless Tamasic energy of sadness, loneliness, grief, hurt, sorrow. This is one reason why the movement of breath is so important to the practice of Yoga. Udana Vayu is the upward-moving, ascending and radiant life-force from the top of the heart and base of the throat. As it is active primarily in the region between the heart and the head, it is said to bring Prana from the energy centre, Anahata Chakra through Vishuddha Chakra to Ajna Chakra, which directs the flow of Prana from the lower to the higher planes of consciousness manifesting a hearts desire as it creatively expresses itself and influences awakening. This Vayu is also responsible for taking the mind from waking to sleep, from sleep to dreaming and then to deep dreamless sleep -Turya – to higher planes of existence. When we focus a mindful concentration in practice on Udana Vayu the results leave us feeling connected, balanced and strong, we stand tall with integrity. Our presence when Udana Vayu is flowing we are joyous, enthusiastic, alert, articulate, and we have epiphanies, insights, revelations and visions.This meditation will use the tool Jaladhara Bandha to help trace the movements Udana Vayu and Mudras to seal in the Prana around the space between the heart and the head. Verbal chanting of OM and mental chanting of SO HUM and HUM SA will be used to connect to the vibration and pulse of Prana in this area. Kriya practices will also be used to actively clear the physical and subtle pathways for Prana to heal, transform and inspire the student to benefit from focusing on Pran, Apana, Vyana and Samana Vayus and how Udana Vayu relates to this Pranic movement. Heart chakra is the connection between the 3 upper chakras and 3 lower chakras. It is the fourth in our chakra system located at the center of chest. Its colour is green, the color of healing and it mantra is 'YAM'. The heart chakra is known as Anahata in sanskrit which means 'the unstruck'. In scriptures it is anahata naad, the unstruck sound. The sound which is there in continuity, without break. We just need to listen and meditate. Meditating on 'Yam' or mantra chanting of Yam is the tool to go inside from outside. Once the chakra energy is awakened, we realize what's inside. Meditation on Yam helps to channelise the energy flow to the heart chakra. Keep your focus in the center of chest. If you can imagine or feel green color at the center of chest then its good but if you cannot no worries. You keep your awareness to the beej mantra of heart chakra. Attune and merge yourself with the mantra. Breath, mantra 'Yam' and you become the one. Chant the mantra to heal both the physical and the spiritual planes. Anahata Chakra is the most influential energy centre out of the seven chakras. Exploring divinity through pure love inspires this fourth chakra. A Heart Chakra opens the channels of the heart, allowing us to receive and give freely. In Sanskrit, anahata means “unstruck” or “unbeaten”. This signifies an impartial and infinite love allowing a deeper understanding of self and others. It is located in the region of the heart, in the energy centre of the chest. It invites a person to meditate on the different levels of relationship experiences with an open heart. The colour of the Anahata Chakra is green. The corresponding element is air which represents freedom and expansion. This chakra promotes a consciousness that develops boundless compassion. The mantra of the Anahata Chakra is 'yam'. It means to let go, to liberate, to give. The energy of the Heart Chakra has a deep impact on our personality. A meaningful and balanced life can be achieved when our Heart Chakra is in balance. The chakra Anahata. ” (un-AA-huh-THuh) In Sanskrit, “anahata” (un-AA-huh-THuh) means unhurt, unstruck and unbeaten. It is serves as the center of love for self as well as others, showing compassion, empathy and forgiveness. The ability to give and receive love. This chakra(Chuck”-ruh) is also associated with unconditional love, compassion, and joy. It is also associated with the color green. WHERE IS IT LOCATED? Move your hand around your sternum. Find the place where there's a slight indentation, it's above the Xiphoid process, which is is at the very bottom of your rib cage in the center). The space we're concentrating is about 3 to 4 finger-widths above the Xiphoid process. The spot you are looking for has a slight indentation and is sensitive. As mentioned earlier, it feels sensitive and has a slight indentation to it. That's how you'll know you found it. From there, you are going to move your attention inward about a 3 finger width. This is where the region of the ‘cave of the Heart', Anahata Chakra. The breath that we will be doing is through an open mouth. You will be breathing in twice and exhaling. You can experiment with the depth or shallowness of your breath. Before we get started you should be in a comfortable place to lie down ( you may or may want to use props such as bolsters under your legs or knees. Your head should be on the ground or a towel. You just do not want your head raised causing strain on your neck or back). You may want a shawl or blanket in case you get cold.

Chakra WISDOM: Your Anahata Chakra The WISDOM podcast  Season 2  Episode 78   Welcome back to this sacred journey into the chakras. The chakra system originated in India between 1500 and 500 BC – more than four thousand years ago in the ancient literature of the Vedas. Evidence of the chakras, is also found in the Upanishads, the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali, and perhaps most thoroughly in the sixteenth century by an Indian yogi in a text called the Sat-Chakra-Nirupana.   The chakra system was taught orally by the Indo-Eurpoean people (also called the Aryan people). It was traditionally considered an Eastern philosophy until New Age authors, like Anodea Judith and others, resonated with this wisdom and began writing about the chakras.     If you've been joining me in this series, I hope that you've allowed yourself to explore the wisdom of these ancient energy centers; these spinning sacred wheels of life. They are believed to hold energetic space within us; and which link areas of the body and psyche with associated metaphysical realms.   Within each episode in this series, I describe how each chakra affects our psychology, and our emotions and behaviours as human beings. Based on the teachings of this ancient wisdom and the modern day authors who bring this wisdom to life, I share it because it is yet another important way to understand the self; your patterns and behaviours; and how you may help yourself unblock and balance the flow of energy that moves through you. You also begin to draw insights and a helpful perspective from the ancient wisdom of the chakras, including what limiting thoughts and beliefs hold you back from living the full expression of life.   Perhaps, most important still, my hope is to give you additional resources and another source of self-healing; for finding and thriving ‘in balance', and for helping to effect the change you seek – within yourself and of your life.   As I share with you the teachings of your fourth chakra, I reference and take direct quotes from Anodea Judith's book: Eastern Body Western Mind: Psychology and the Chakra System as a Path to the Self and the work of Carolyn Myss and her book: Anatomy of the Spirit. The Seven Stages of Power and Healing. I'll link up their work here in the description; as both are esteemed experts in this field, and these are great reads if you wish to learn more.   A chakra is a center of organization that receives, assimilates, and expresses life force energy. Based on their location in the body the chakras have become associated with various states of consciousness, archetypal elements, and philosophical constructs. The lower chakras, for example which are physically closer to the earth, are related to the more practical matters of our lives – survival, movement, action. They are ruled by physical and social law. The upper chakras represent mental realms and work on a symbolic level through words, images, and concepts. Each of the seven chakras from the base of the spine to the crown of the head, represents a major area of human psychological health.   Here we dive into your Anahata, your heart center. Since the heart chakra is the middle point in a system of seven centers, balance, together with love and relationship) are the essential principles at this level of integration. This implies both internal balance between various aspects of ourselves (mind and body, persona and shadow, masculine and feminine), as well as between ourselves and the world around us (for example: work and play, giving and receiving, socializing and being alone).   It is important to continue to find and live in equilibrium, for without balance within ourselves it is difficult, if not impossible, to achieve healthy and long-lasting love relationships. The basic right of the heart chakra is to love and to be loved.   Be sure to take part in the guided meditation that closes out this episode.  It is a beautiful experience in balancing the beautiful sacred energy of this chakra.
