„Es gibt keinen Sonnenschein, wenn sie weg ist“ – diese einfache, aber eindringliche Metapher beschreibt treffend die Bedeutung von Gerechtigkeit und Menschlichkeit in einer funktionierenden Gesellschaft. Menschlichkeit ist wie die Sonne, die Wärme und Licht spendet, die Orientierung gibt und das Leben erträglich macht. Doch wenn diese fundamentalen Werte verschwinden, bleibt eine kalte und düstere Welt zurück. In den letzten Jahren haben wir weltweit und auch hier in Deutschland erleben müssen, wie der Verlust von Solidarität und Gerechtigkeit soziale Ungleichheiten vergrößert und Spaltungen in der Gesellschaft verschärft hat. Gemeinsam den Sonnenschein zurückbringen - „Ain't no Sunshine when she's gone“  - wir müssen uns als Gesellschaft bewusst werden, was verloren gegangen ist, und aktiv daran arbeiten, es zurückzugewinnen. Es braucht einen ethisch-moralischen Kompass, der uns leitet, genauso wie das Engagement jedes Einzelnen, der sich für eine gerechtere Welt einsetzt. Diese Rückkehr der Menschlichkeit und Gerechtigkeit könnte dann den „Sonnenschein“ zurückbringen, der die Dunkelheit vertreibt und das „Haus“ wieder zu einem „Zuhause“ macht. Die Abwesenheit dieser zentralen Werte hinterlässt eine Leere, die viele Menschen tief in ihrem Alltag spüren. Doch es liegt an uns, diese Leere zu füllen, indem wir aktiv für eine Gesellschaft eintreten, die auf Solidarität, Respekt und Gleichwertigkeit basiert. Nur so können wir den „Sonnenschein“ zurückbringen und unser Haus wieder zu einem Zuhause machen. We close out 2015 with a great podcast from DC native DFMO, who you can catch playing For the Love of Deep House and Debauchery at Jimmy Valentine's Lonely Hearts Club on New Year's Eve. In his own words: "This exclusive NYE mix for DC House Grooves has a blend of some of my favorite deep, tech and house tracks from 2015. (I thought it would be a great way to wrap up the year.) A key focus of my session is ensuring the mix has an organic feel. The playlist is unplanned and evolves during the set, which is a live recording with no post-production. Grooving to an unknown destination is a trip that can lead to some fun surprises. There are no retakes on the dance floor, so I approach each session on the decks in the same way. The dance floor and music become a rich feedback loop. The tracks I find myself selecting usually tend to contain at least one element that feels organic- that could be a smooth vocal track, some acoustic element or a live/sampled instrumental. I love when common themes, intentional or otherwise, appear in the mix or when one song answers or echoes the sentiment of the previous track. These are threads that bind the mix and can be more important than genre, BPM, or key. In this particular mix, the familiar Bill Withers “Ain’t no sunshine...” refrain is repeated at different points in the mix from different artists. DC has been such a great area to come up musically, with so many local influences and a thriving house scene. I was really excited to wrap up the year with a mix for DC House Grooves.
