Ryan Singh Productions Ltd. is thrilled to announce its latest cinematic endeavor, "Ray of Hope," makes it theatre debut today at Cineplex Odeon Eglinton Town Centre Cinemas.  Ray Of Hope, is a compelling documentary project that delves into the collective immigrant experiences of displaced Tamil people from Sri Lanka. This poignant narrative follows their quest for identity and nationhood, stemming from their escape during the prolonged armed conflict in Sri Lanka, which culminated in the harrowing events of May 2009. The diaspora's impassioned plea for foreign intervention serves as the backdrop for this stirring tale of hope and resilience.   Anchored by Rathika Sitsabaiesan, a former Canadian Member of Parliament and a mentee of the late Jack Layton is the Heart of "Ray of Hope".  "Ray of Hope" features an ensemble cast, including Collins Perinpanayagam, Sutha Shanmugarajah, Maya D'Elia, and many others. These diverse voices seamlessly weave together history, politics, the scenic beauty of Sri Lanka, the horrors of war, their rich culture, and their longing for home. In the process, the documentary captures the indomitable spirit of the diasporic Tamil community as they strive to triumph over adversity.  "Ray of Hope" boasts a talented creative team led by first-time feature documentary writer-director Ryan Singh, mentored by the experienced Nikila Cole.  The film previewed at the Scarborough Convention Centre earlier this week to a 500+ audience made up of members of the Tamil and non-Tamil communities alongside politicians and a press corps. A five-minute standing ovation erupted at the conclusion of the screening with many people offering their own connection to the film's subject matter despite their backgrounds.   Ryan Singh has actively engaged with the community to ensure the authenticity and depth of "Ray of Hope." Consultations were held with the various Tamil organizations and community leaders, the Canadian Centre for Victims of Torture, Immigrant Women in Business, Tamil Rights Group, and The Canadian Tamil Cinema Enhancement Organization, who have recently come on board as consulting producers for the project.   "As one of the producers of 'Ray of Hope', I am immensely proud to be a member of the team that sheds light on the resilience and courage of the Tamil community, particularly those who fled Sri Lanka during the civil war and found refuge in Toronto, a city renowned for its diversity and inclusivity.    Want to watch: YouTube Meisterkhan Pod (Please Subscribe)

Today we're joined by none other than the Honourable Charlie Angus, longtime Canadian Member of Parliament for the enormous federal riding of Timmins-James Bay in Northern Ontario. Charlie - who some call the Canadian Bernie Sanders - is a diehard New Democrat. For those who don't know, the New Democratic Party is essentially the Canadian labour party; built thanks to organized labour and unionized working class workers and plenty of democratic socialists. It's the party that's led today by Jagmeet Singh, but was previously led by the late Ed Broadbent, the late Jack Layton, and none other than the father of Canadian Medicare: the late Tommy Douglas. Charlie Angus' riding is unique in that it is very Indigenous, very vast and resource rich, very working class, and was once dominated by little coal mining towns like the one Charlie comes from, Cobalt. After twenty years of aggressive impassioned face offs with The Man in Ottawa, this rugged reformed anarchist turned democratic socialist is laying the groundwork for his exit… stage left. Our thanks to Charlie Angus for sharing his fascinating story with us.

In a relatively short time, Dan Illouz went from being a McGill University law student to sitting in Israel's Knesset as a member of the ruling Likud government. The son of Moroccan immigrants to Montreal, Illouz moved to Israel 13 years ago. Since then, he has held political jobs and also served as a Jerusalem city councillor before taking his seat in the Knesset after Benjamin Netanyahu's Likud won the most recent election. Among his stances, Illouz supports the government's current efforts to reform the power of the Israeli courts—which have prompted mass street protests in Israeli cities, evoked concern among many Jewish groups in the Diaspora and even brought stern warnings from political allies, including Canada. The rookie MK—who turns 37 on Tuesday, Feb. 21—views the protests more as a “disagreement” among friends, and condemns those who say the reforms will make Israel less democratic. Fan of the show? https://www.patreon.com/newleftradio (Support us on Patreon)! What does freedom look like? Is it the stuff of mask mandates and vaccine passports or the yearning to self-direct the destiny of a people? Can we say that policing is democratic? How do we effect real change in our world? Former Toronto City Councillor and NDP MP, and current Executive Director of the Institute for Change Leaders, Olivia Chow joins us to discuss. About Olivia Chow For over thirty years, Olivia Chow has been an effective and well-known public figure, serving in Toronto's municipal politics and on the national stage as a Canadian Member of Parliament. She was voted Best City Councillor seven times by readers of NOW magazine and Best MP in 2010. Readers of the Toronto Sun voted her Top Torontonian in 2012 and Canadian Immigrant magazine named her as one of Canada's Top 25 Immigrants. Olivia also wrote the best selling memoir “My Journey”, published in 2014. In 2015, Olivia Chow joined X University as a Distinguished Visiting Professor. Her work focuses on community engagement and leadership development. As a founder of the Institute for Change Leaders, Olivia and her team of 30+ trainers have taught community and political organizing to thousands of organizers since March of 2015.  Olivia's career has been all about creating lasting change. Olivia was born in Hong Kong and moved to Toronto with her parents when she was thirteen. She studied Philosophy and Fine Art at university and has worked as a college professor, an ESL teacher, a counsellor for new immigrants, and a sculptor. She became an activist as a young woman, fighting for the rights of refugees and immigrants. For over 20 years, she was at the forefront of the ultimately successful campaign to achieve a national apology and redress for the discriminatory “Chinese Head Tax”. Olivia won her first election in 1985 and served on the Toronto Board of Education for six years. In 1991, Olivia became the first Asian-born woman elected as a Metro Toronto Councillor. She was re-elected to the city council five times, serving with distinction for 14 years. While at City Hall, she served as Chair of the Community Services Committee and Vice-Chair of the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC), among other senior responsibilities. Throughout her career, Olivia has been at the forefront, working for progress for all. She has reached across party lines and travelled across the country, forging alliances with municipal and provincial leaders, business and advocacy groups. Olivia married Jack Layton in 1988, and together they forged one of Canada's most remarkable political partnerships, sharing a passion for life and a commitment to change. Jack became the leader of the New Democratic Party and Canada's Leader of the Opposition in Parliament before he died of cancer in 2011. Since his passing, Olivia has continued the quest to make Toronto a better city and Canada a better country for all.  https://twitter.com/oliviachow (Follow Olivia Chow on Twitter) About the Institute for Change Leaders The Institute advances education by developing and delivering courses to the public that teach participants the tools, principles, ethics and values of participatory democracy in order to acquire knowledge and skills to be involved, and leaders, in democratic processes. Founded in 2016 by Olivia Chow, the Institute for Change Leaders (ICL) teaches the skills that organizers need to win social change. ICL believes students learn best when they practice what they learn, and are constantly engaged in small group learning. They deliver a full curriculum in regular sessions online and at X University, and work with organizations to deliver tailored trainings in their workplaces. ICL's mission is to ensure organizers are continually developing the skills they need to transform the resources they have into the change they want. The Institute does this by teaching organizing strategies

Bill C-208 is an Act to amend the Income Tax Act which addresses the transfer of a family farm, small business or fishing corporation. In the final reading of this bill, it received bipartisan support from 19 members of the liberal opposition. Of those who did not support the bill were Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, and the Minister of Agriculture.  With the passage of C-208, parents will no longer have to be given a false choice of having to choose between a larger retirement package by selling to a stranger, or a massive tax bill because they sold to a family member – their own child or grandchild. The Women in Agribusiness (WIA) Summit annually convenes over 800 of the country's female agribusiness decision-makers. This website, among others have articulated the major problems with the official explanation of 9/11 since the day after they happened. These attacks have directly led to an agenda of increased military spending, surveillance, at least two wars of aggression (Afghanistan and Iraq) and a period of curtailed civil liberties in the name of protection from radical Islamic terrorists. Amply documented, there are major problems with this narrative. The following humourous video encapsulates many of these anomalies. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yuC_4mGTs98  (Video courtesy of James Corbett) A more detailed analysis is available through Global Research's 9/11 Reader. There has been a clear resistance to abandoning this core narrative. Take, for example, the refusal of Canadian Member of Parliament Paul Dewar to table a petition  in the House of Commons calling for a Canadian parliamentary review of the omissions and inconsistencies in the 9/11 Commission report and of available forensic evidence. Mr. Dewar says he doesn't agree with the petition. That is not considered an acceptable rationale for not tabling a petition to Parliament. More background can be found on this webpage: http://www.ae911truth.org/en/news-section/41-articles/732-the-canadian-911-justice-petition-initiative-continuing-the-pursuit-of-a-real-investigation.html There is more to this kind of resistance than a lack of facts. Laurie Manwell is a Ph.D candidate at the University of Guelph and has published articles on psychological resistance to embracing alternative explanations of 9/11 and other so-called State Crimes Against Democracy. Her article, In Denial of Democracy: Social Psychological Implications for Public Discourse on State Crimes Against Democracy Post-9/11 appeared in the February 2010 edition of American Behavioural Scientist. Her thesis was the basis of her outstanding presentation at the Toronto Hearings on 9/11. An excerpt of this presentation airs in the first half hour of this week's Global Research News Hour, courtesy of Press For Truth. Architect and high profile 9/11 speaker Richard Gage, AIA joins us in the second half hour. He talks with guest interviewer Jon Wilson about his tour across Canada, and his view about the prospects of 9/11 making a powerful political breakthrough in this country.
