Are you stuck? The brain's resistance, also known as the "comfort zone," refers to the natural tendency of the brain to seek familiar, safe, and easy situations while avoiding new challenges or experiences that may be uncomfortable or stressful. While this instinct can serve a protective function, it can also limit personal growth, learning, and achievement. A moment of reflection... What one area are you resisting? • Switching jobs? • Ending a relationship? • Changing behavior? • Stopping the need to please? • Going after big dreams? Overcoming the brain's resistance is important to achieving greater success, expanding your skill set, developing confidence, and growing as an individual and professional. This week on The Coffee with Rhonda Show, we welcome Dr. Haley Nelson joins us to talk more about the neuroscience of change. Mireille Toulekima, Roz Jones, and I look forward to diving into this one. What's in your cup? About Dr. Haley: Dr. Hayley Nelson is a neuroscientist, tenured psychology professor, international speaker and founder of The Academy of Cognitive and Behavioral Neuroscience where she is passionate about making neuroscience approachable. She also has several peer-reviewed research publications and previous research and faculty appointments with The National Institutes of Health, The Johns Hopkins University, and The University of Pennsylvania. By creating Certification Programs with the Academy of Cognitive and Behavioral Neuroscience, Dr. Hayley combined her knowledge of the human mind and brain health with her passion for education, teaching, and consulting to truly make neuroscience accessible and approachable. She loves working with life coaches, wellness professionals, therapists and counselors who are ready to stand apart and show up as true leaders in their field. By earning their certification in Cognitive and Behavioral Neuroscience, her students learn easy-to-swallow knowledge of how the brain works in real-life situations and are armed with an education in a subject they can use literally every single day. Today, joining Alex & Annie is Justin Ford, the Director of Short-Term Rental Safety & Certification Programs at Breezeway, the leading property operations and services platform for short-term rentals. In October of last year, Breezeway received their Series B Investment of $15 million USD and since then they've successfully scaled to over 150 team members, serving clients such as Lake Tahoe Accommodations, Huswell, Seaside Vacations, and more.Justin's journey to Breezeway began in the United States Coast Guard where he worked with fishery & boating safety. This eventually led him to a career as a yacht captain, managing a yachting fleet for a major credit card company for 11 years until Bank of America acquired their company. In 1997 he had purchased a lake cottage in Maine, which he was actively renting out. As word spread that he's managing the cottage as a source of income for himself, others wanted him to do the same for them and so his business in the short term rental space was born. His first venture that he co-founded, "On the Water in Maine Inc.," grew into the largest vacation rental company in the northeast and is still thriving until this day. During his time growing On The Water in Maine, Justin saw the challenge of educating and enforcing safety guidelines for vacation rentals. His next  venture started as a safety checklist, and then evolved into a company called Dwell Safe, and was acquired by Breezeway 4 years ago, where he was retained as a director.Safety regulations are no longer an afterthought. Most incidents once deemed "accidents" are now seen as entirely preventable, placing great emphasis on accountability. While an accountability-based approach is unquestionably an overall improvement over the previous status quo, it does come with some growing pains that Justin and Breezeway actively aim to address.A major issue is that many safety regulations are presented in a convoluted manner, discouraging self-education. The official government safety code is exceedingly complex, requiring a PhD in Safety Sciences to even read. Moreover, there are numerous aspects not covered in the official code, rendering proper implementation overly complicated.Justin's prediction regarding the restructuring of safety codes & regulations for short-term rentals closely follows the trajectory of the hotel industry's regulations over the last 50 years. He anticipates that within less than 5 years, a government-approved definition of short-term rentals will be established, accompanied by a standardized code that will be approved and implemented overnight. This will cause a huge earthquake for short term rental operators, as they'll have to immediately get their properties up to code or face the consequences. •  We have such a heart for CTE. So I'm really excited to have you with me and just talking about alternative certification programs, we need to fill that teacher pipeline, so let's just start right out the gate. What is CTE?  Alright, well, CTE is an acronym that stands for career and technical education, and that is the current phrase that we use to describe what we used to call vocational education, so we're talking about hands-on, small groups, very structured type of learning environments, and that's essentially what CTE is. CTE tends to be your electives, your hands-on elective classes, and a lot of times they lead to potential certifications or things of that nature that lead into careers. So very career-driven curriculum(3:06).• CTE or back as it was originally known, vocational education. It really came about right at the turn of the last century, and it started with farming. There was this need to incorporate some real tangible hands-on skills and techniques for students so that they could actually finish their high school experience and get out there and have a tangible skill set such as being able to farm.  In the beginning, it was very ag-driven, and then from there, we ended up going into World War 1. That model ended up being used to teach teachers how to teach their students tangible things to help with the war effort, so things like how to drive, because again, we're talking about the turn of last century, so automotive skills and things of that nature, and so that's where CTE really got its foothold, and as we moved through the years and come up to where we currently are now... Really what CTE does is, again, it provides this type of education that really gives students these hands-on tangible skill sets to be able to enter into the workforce, so when that is our goal, we need teachers who come from industry to be able to deliver that kind of curriculum effectively. (5:17)• How we work with teacher certifications is by offering an intensified course. This is open for people who have been in industry and have a certain number of hours in industry. These are individuals who want to get into the classroom, but they don't necessarily want to go the traditional academic route and put four years in for an undergrad and then get their teaching starts to get on top of it. So what we do is we look at their work history and we make sure that they have enough hours in that particular area, and then we enroll them in this very intensified program where we have short courses that really give them the background need to have... In how to write lesson plans, how to handle classroom management, and we put them right away into a teacher practicum, so that means they're in the classroom.  Everything is very condensed and short and you can, depending on where you're at, you can get through the program within... One summer up to two years, just kind of depending on what route you want to take. (8:46)• I am such a believer in CTE, I'm so glad that I stumbled into this field. Once I really started understanding what CTE is and how it can reach students, I had just never looked back I'm just such a believer in it. One thing I love about CTE is that it is hands-on education, these are the classes where you are actually making things... You are working in small groups. I used to teach Culinary Arts at Mount Vernon high school where I did my student teaching. That was my first teaching job were and where I taught beginning foods, Advanced foods, and I loved that. I loved that small group dynamic, and you see it in students, they enjoy that too. They really thrive in that type of environment where they're able to work together, work collaboratively, while they're working collaboratively, they are reading a recipe, they're interpreting it, they are delegating duties, they are working together, and then at the end of it, they have a product that they can share in this scenario, it's food, they're able to sit down and eat, so not only are they learning, but all of these basic needs are being met. You know someone that will help promote you. I had that going for me.  (18:06) The other thing I'll say about speaking is, I was not a shy guy, but I wasn't a public speaker when I first started at the wellness center, and I was a pretty good salesman and organizer, manager. I just started taking courses in nutrition and personal training and things as I was working at this clinic.  (40:56) You will expand into that if you orientate (your new staff) them properly and train them to do their job well and set policy that they understand, that's very clear, that they can sort of perpetuate   Connect with Reed Davis Website LinkedIN Facebook Instagram Youtube   Connect with Kyle + The Story Engine Buy Kyle's Book - Selling with Story Invite Kyle to speak (events or podcast) Apply to work with us Twitter Instagram LinkedIN

Speaker 1:                           00:01                     The project lit lit. Hey everybody. Welcome to this episode of the project and in today's episode I'm sitting down with Jonathan Mills, creator of Rehab Revolution. The guy like dropped some serious knowledge bombs in this episode. I mean if you are an aspiring trainer and an aspiring online coach or want to learn more about the fitness industry, listen to what this guy has to say. He also points out some of the pitfalls that we might fall into. Well, looking into I'd say educational certifications. He completely changed my mind when I looked at accrediting bodies. We get into a little bit of a debate midway through it and again, it's such a good episode for everybody. New and old trainers. Give it a listen and again if you have any questions, dms or shoot us an email. All this and more today's episode. Hey guys,e course is all about. I want to see what legitimacy it has to it. And they're like, no, it's just signed by our head trainer. I'm like, who is your head trainer? What was he accredited by? What's his background? Just as a coach for 15 years?Speaker 2:                           05:25                     Yes. Some of the best coaches and some of the best trainers out there have zero certificates. You know what I mean? It's Kinda like with teachers and professionals in different industries. For instance, take Richard Bronson, the guy dropped out of high school or dropped out of college and he's the richest man in the world. But at the same time, especially in this part of the world, that accreditation or that legitimacy needs to be recognized so you don't have the posers coming out so to speak. So what do you think about that side of the argument? Definitely. I saidSpeaker 3:                           05:56                     which whatever industry you're in Roy, he's going to get those. So called poses. I got like Tommy and and create the writing stuff, a marketer as the best thing ever. It just comes down to the individual to, I say it's their responsibility to kind of check before they jump in and stop kind of paying money and spending more investing their time in. So learning just because it looks great and the marketing's amazing. It needs to look into that further. Look at the credibility of the people running it. All the people teaching it. Do I have a background in what they're teaching as I taught before? Do they have like you that credibility back them up and some do, some don't. But again it comes down to the same with some of the accredited courses I've seen run are the content, is industry standard? Does it mean that standard is like extremely high quality?Speaker 3:                           06:45                     It just means it&Support the show (https://www.instagram.com/p/Bl8NPB2H4Mf/?igshid=1m9w8d28oarlu&utm_source=fb_www_attr)

Mitch is always checking for a full moon in Iceland and has been known to disappear in a moment's notice.   Enjoy!!!   ---   Mission Statement My mission is to create 200 new multi-millionaire business owners who solve world problems with entrepreneurship.
