Chloe Wilde and Tyrone Edwards go way back, almost 7 years ago to the day when they started working together at the iconic MuchMusic office in downtown Toronto and were deskmates. Since that day, they’ve never stopped being deskmates and have since travelled the world together, filmed incredible shows together, gone through life’s hardships while being there for one another and now are supporting each other on a personal development journey. Tyrone is not only one of the most recognizable television personalities in Canada, he is also an incredible human being with so much compassion, drive, heart and a deep advocate for choosing to lead with love. Having grown up in Toronto’s west end, Tyrone travelled to the U.S. during high school to play basketball at Randallstown High School in Baltimore, MD. From there, a scholarship presented him with the opportunity to attend Hillsdale College in Michigan, where he played NCAA basketball while studying Business and Speech. While Tyrone’s career was taking off in the U.S., his heart was always rooted in Toronto and, in 2005, he returned to the city he loves. In 2007 he helped create the love letter to Toronto that is the 1LoveTO blog, a project that ultimately led him to join Much in 2011. Off-screen, Tyrone is heavily involved in his community, acting as a mentor and coach for underprivileged youth. Having once worked as a camp counselor with Toronto Parks and Recreation, Tyrone went on to found Concrete Hoops, a not-for-profit basketball camp that aims to incorporate life skills with the love of the game. He has also been a program leader with the urban youth-oriented Remix Project, an organization that helps kids from all 13 priority neighbourhoods in Toronto learn the fundamentals of the arts and entertainment business, and assisting them in their educational aspirations. In honour of his work as a television host and with numerous charities and foundations supporting underprivileged youth, Tyrone received the 2016 Mandela Legacy Hope, Success, and Empowerment Award, alongside Naomi Campbell, and Reverend Al Sharpton. The two chat about mindfulness, community, striving for a more balanced approach to life and embracing that love is greater than… well, everything. Follow Tyrone on IG: @mr1loveto

This week Chloe Wilde keeps it in the family and welcomes Larissa Nicole to the podcast. Not only has she been part of the Healthy Is Hot family as a writer for quite some time, she is a transformation and wellness coach on her way to becoming a Holistic Nutritionist. Growing up, she was raised in an Italian household where pasta, cheese, bread and olive oil were frequent staples in her diet, and there was no such thing as portion control. She struggled with body images throughout her childhood and was bullied in school… This led to her trying every “crash diet” and let others dictate her self-worth. When she entered University she was unhappy and ready to begin her true journey with health. She began doing workout videos at home, restricting her calories and began to see the pounds fall off until she plateaued and her go-to “rules” weren’t working anymore. It was then that she realized that to transform her body, she needed to transform her mind. She became a student, absorbing as much information as possible in nutrition, fitness and wellness. It’s colder and darker, putting us at risk of Seasonal Affective Disorder. SAD affects the mental health of approximately 26% of the population during the wintertime. With the bluest day of the year coming up on January 20, we’ve got your back with Kiki Athanas on this week’s episode of the Healthy Is Hot podcast with Chloe Wilde. Kiki is a health writer and speaker specializing in holistic healing modalities spanning nutrition, mindfulness, and cannabis for wellness. Through working with health tech startups and wellness brands over the past several years, Kiki has advanced her education and experiences in natural lifestyle practices. Her journey and mission is, ultimately, to inspire a new way of "mindful living" that fits today's modern lifestyle, which she shares on her blog MEByKiki.com. Today, Kiki leads wellness events & workshops across the city, is the In-House Nutritionist at Calii Love, and is in the process of natural her new adaptogenic supplements line, Kiki Naturals. Seasonal affective disorder is a type of depression with similar symptoms. Are you feeling fatigued? Struggling with getting out of bed? Prone to crying? Struggling with sadness? If these symptoms are more common than not, hopefully these tips and tricks will supplement whatever tools you already have in your toolkit. Mental health is health, let’s prioritize it. 1. Mindfulness. Start with checking in with yourself, be mindful with your own feelings. And extend it outwards and check in with your loved ones. Give meditation a chance, and do it YOUR way with however amount of time YOU want. There is no secret sauce or one-size-fits-all way to do it. 2. Go spend time in nature. It’s been shown to reduce stress, improve sleep, boost creativity and simmer down cortisol levels. 3. Go for a walk outside, even if it’s gloomy out, try to spend a little time outside during the day. 4. Fill out your social calendar with activities that fuel your soul and make you feel good. 5. Nourish yourself! Bring back complex carbs (yes, carbs). Sweet potato, quinoa, wild rice - these are all slow burning carbs which have been shown to increase serotonin which is the “happy” neurotransmitter. Load up your plate with dark leafy greens (your body will be happy and your mom will be proud). And try chaga mushrooms; high in antioxidants and anti-inflammatory properties. 6. Are you getting enough B12? Meat products, fortified milks, nutritional yeast, supplements, etc 7. Move your body! Releases endorphins (yay). Make it a priority, schedule it in, and commit. Doesn’t have to be a sweat fest each time, just get out there and move. 8. Light therapy :)

Adored for her genuine enthusiasm and positivity, Montréal native Chloe Wilde emerged in 2013 as the winner of the Much VJ Search and has since brought her fresh perspective and outgoing personality to her role as host of E! in Canada. Most recently, Chloe added Reporter for Canada’s #1 Entertainment Show, Etalk, to her ever-growing resume. Growing up, Chloe dreamed of following in her grandparents’ footsteps as entertainment insiders – her grandmother was a pioneer in the Montreal Burlesque scene and her grandfather worked behind-the-scenes for a news station. After completing a degree in psychology from McGill University, Chloe’s strong interest for science lead her to pursue a degree in nursing. While in school, Chloe hosted The Daily Brief, a current events web series for AskMen.com, which reignited her desire to work in the entertainment industry. With a passion for music festivals and concerts like, Osheaga, Cavendish, and Bonnaroo, as well as, musical influences including Kygo, Halsey, Chet Faker, X Ambassadors, and Flume, Chloe ultimately decided to put her nursing career on hold, relocate to Toronto, and start a new chapter in her life in front of the camera. I FINALLY get more than just 5 minutes with ETalk Reporter Chloe Wilde, and I am soooo excited about it! In this interview on Date With Daniel, I caight up with Chloe backstage at Girl Talk Empowerment Day - an event held to support and build confidence in young girls. In this chat, Chloe opens up about some of the trials and tribulations she's faced growing up as a young girl and working in the fickle that is the entertainment world. Chloe even dishes the deets about what inspired her #HealthyIsHott social media movement.
